Is jelly bean on s2 really worthy to have? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My sister has a s2. I was telling her about the soon to be out jelly bean update and about the system memory shrinkage of 1 GB. So its basically her question that is it really to flash or let the ics do its work? Well me for my note is dying for the official JB. For now 4.0.4 is rocking my phone.

Well, if you're rooted and can do a Nandroid, do it.
Do a Nandroid backup of your current state and flash JB for a test run.
Let the user judge the worthiness.
If the user thinks its not worthy, restore the Nandroid backup.

i'd say it really depends on the phone...
best to make a nandroid backup before upgrading.
i've gone to JB twice (ParanoidAndroid and Neatrom) but went back to ICS
PURELY for the reason that i wasnt able to get good deep sleep on JB but there are many people who have no issues with this.
There were a few system related apps where I just prefered the ICS versions as well so i wouldnt say its specifically JB related.
I never had any issues running Neatrom 4.0 and PA on JB on my S2, i usually remove all bloatware and replace launcher with apex so everything seems quick to me

As all custom rom have bugs because of sources not available but stock jb will be bug free and should have deep sleep/good battery backup. So i think its fully worthy...

-more battery drain
-more features
-not much modded kernels ready yet
-it's jb, and really much smoother
-some bugs, but in everyday use really hard to spot them

Galaxy note
I would galaxy note n note2 are best to enjoy JB. N features like ripple lock with ink effect n specially videos n multi window on an huge screen.
If u feel note2 is expensive note1 is another real good option n buyable tooo..

Try the leaked xxlsj, it's very fast and the only issues I've been having are battery drain when browsing web and lock screen lag. It brings lots of enhancements to ics!

Well thanks for the help. A backup would be a good solution before taking the risk.
Lets see JB responds on it. But what about the 1 gb sacrifice for the system apps can we repatition it???
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

do the nandroid but honestly i suggest waiting for the official
its supposed to have a lot of things worked out as compared to the leaked xxlsj.
i liked xxlsj but i would def try JB again official leak on my s2

wait for the official one as its around the corner

Yes i am waiting for the official. I dont use custom roms. Rooting is all what i want . Actually my devices are for professional use . So troubleshooting official is easy.
My other question is if the upcoming JB rootable? If someone has tried rooting on the leaked version?

This is a good jelly bean rom to try use the lite version as it has loads of s3 features and good battery life as the bloatware has been removed

I had custom rom on 4.0.3 and after flashing to 4.1.2 to got really faster, but camera got worse

think we are all gonna have to say by to our ace soon
What is so special about ICS that you want to change phones?

because gingerbread is getting old, more fetures in Ics, i no you can get apps ect to replicate, but replicating ics just bloats the phone. and the cpu and gpu just seem weak in the ACE now.

Proud new owner with a few questions

Hey everyone, I just purchased a new note from Telus in Canada and I love it. It was quite a substantial upgrade from my old x10. With the x10 it was almost a MUST to use a custom rom to get it working at a satisfying speed. I'm just wondering if thats the case with the Note, is there a substantial increase in performance with the roms? I dont mind touchwiz but I think i would prefer stock android or CM. All of this was pretty easy to do with the x10 but i'm feeling pretty lost right now, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Its been almost 3 weeks with my note and I did not notice any lags I just love it the way it is.........but I did rooted it asap for apps like s voice and s3 widgets etc ....i might flash the 1st jellybean rom which comes....lol .....
If its ics ...its good...
If its on gingerbread ....then update it ota ...
Enjoy!

The note does lag....not bad in some cases but if u can live with it thats great..if u come to the custom rom world u can remove tons of bloat oc uv kernels bigjoe has a super everything thread thats really handy i rooted and flashed mine within hours...i love hiw much faster and smoother it is...most ppl that have not rooted have no idea how bad it lags until they get a custom rom

Thanks for the responses guys, JB could you point me in the right direction? I'm currently on stock 4.0.4 if that helps SGH-I717D
My rom is so light and small my phone lag is non-existing compared to my girlfriends stock gingerbread one

cyanogen is working on jelly bean for the note. as soon as it's ready you can be sure it will be at the top of the development section.
also if you're already rooted then there is no reason not to flash a custom rom. it takes 5 minutes tops and it removes all the carrier bloat and adds some goodies and tweaks we all love. try out team perfections latest release if you like the stock feel but without the garbage.

Is there anyone who still uses ICS on S3?

i think a lot of people in XDA uses Stock Jelly Bean. Is there any one who still uses ICS?
Yes, mainly for the kernel support
Edited, because Swype thinks "mainly" is the same as "flash" lol
Me rotfl
I'll try JB later on, ics is really stable now
Inviato dal mio GT-I9300 con Tapatalk 2
yep, was using RandomBlames Jellytime on my DHD. But fell back to ICS (CheckRom) on my S3, why? Because ICS is soo stable and it all works, so I'll give the devs some time to sort out the foibles with an official JB release before jumping ship.
Jellybean's still too buggy to use everyday and just doesn't have enough extra features to put up with the hassle.
i dont think i will update to JB because the MX player that supports DTS doesnt't work on JB, and the updated version that does work on JB had DTS removed because of licensing isssues.
So i rather play MKV's with sound on ICS than to use JB with a worse video player.
Once kernel sources are released for JB, ill start using it.. that memory leak is just annoying.
Till then CM9.1 will do me just fine !

Still on stock (but rooted) ICS, too many problems with JB still.
Like many previously answered, I still use ICS for its stability.

I am on stock JB and think its a hell of a lot better than ICS by far, just my opinion, but if this has bugs in it can't wait to see it without bugs

You mean to say that you've never had a problem that you couldn't ignore. The latest LH9 leak is worse than the earlier leaks. LH7 was probably the best.
The most major issues for me were:
FC on keyboards, including Samsung's
Non-Working LED notifications
Strobe LED on charging
Ugly gray status bar
Terrible autobrightness (much worse than ICS) and defaults set way too low
There were a few others mentioned in the thread, but for me, I'll happily wait on LH1 with Domination Theme anyway. When Vertimus makes Domination for JB, I'll probably update.
I keep trying jb roms but non ever float my boat always some kinda issue ether lagg or fc so I'm still rocking fox hound ics its sexy and smooth without the Bs, I'm forever tempted when a new jb rom arrives but deep down know it will fail:banghead:

Jelly Bean just sux. Lots and lots or bugs og lags. If i knew about this I would never have upgraded until next bugfix from samsung which is in 2043 or something (sarcastic... samsung is so slow!).
Strange having jb myself on s3 I9305,
very fast. I have friend with I9300 who updated and said it was a lot faster now with jb compared to ics.

Same story brother the jelly bean update is laggy overall. I rooted the phone and installed the custom Rom
Just install the latest rom from viking (viking 11.1), it made my s3 the absolute fastest phone i have ever had the pleasure to use.
This beast is so fast, with over 150 applications and games installed, it won't skip a beat.
The only issue still, is that Google voice is still not working 100 percent.
I can make a call, but then after that first call,if i try to make another call, it won't, it will get stuck.
So for now I'm not using Google voice to make every call

Unfortunately I also think you need to do a hard reset.
I had major issues with my s3 after updating to jellybean - but the hard reset restored the speed and worst of the lag - there's still the delay going into dialer and contacts but it's workable.
can't say ive experienced any bugs but JB is definitely faster
I did a clean wipe and i'd recommend anyone else to do the same
try this
developer option
all the animation scale change it to .5x
It's true. After updating to Jelly Bean, you must do a wipe. I tried updating Jelly Bean and not do a full wipe and my S3 becomes laggy. I tried to update to Jelly Bean and do a full wipe again and my S3 is as fast as the lightning.
Project butter or 'rubber' ? doing it the Samsung way !
It indeed is laggy.. ICS was much better than this the 'project butter' more of 'rubber' for me... I never had that much of a problem of re-draw and launch delay with ICS , in fact I never noticed any such issue before JB. There are also other glitches. Samsung should have worked more on it (well I know they really don't care). Its like the same as iOS6 did to my brother's ip4S, laggy and a battery hog..
I thought of going for a root and custom rom but probably would wait for JB 4.1.2 or 4.2 maybe :fingers-crossed:, can't really bet on Samsung to fix it though.
The only way right now is to Root and put in a custom rom, didn't want to void my warranty but..:crying:

oldtime user, need help updating!

used old school bionix-v from like 2 years ago, now am looking for updates since i feel old and obsolete. i beleive my phone is still on android 2.2 or something, so just need some quick pointers on what to do first, etc.
also, what roms are good now? and anything unique out there / happen out there?
thanks!
