While i am fairly happy with my prime (minor light blood, no GPS at all. It doesn't bother me though.) i am starting to doubt ASUS.
After reading the horror stories about RMA's and ****ty service i am starting to worry about what might happen if i keep the tf201 and something happens, what then?
So what i am saying is, should i stick with ASUS and hope they come through, or abandon it and wait for other tegra 3 tabs to come out?
Asus has been great to me.
Gary, and the Technical Product Manager he referred me to have bent over backwards trying to help me.
Stop worrying so much. You can only go off of personal experience. Yes there has been some rma horror stories. But there are also plenty of ones that worked out perfect also. Even people receiving brand new units, it it warranted it.
Yes, but then reading things like the t300 thread... Im not so sure.
The thing is though, i really want a tegra3 tab and this is the only thin out right now.
I'm quite worried how the situation with the prime is going to turn out. I don't think the wifi issues can be fixed and I fear that Asus will just cut their losses and move on if things continue the way they have been.
I know if wifi doesn't improve soon, ill be returning my device as I can't even use it in all the areas of my home right now.
here's the bottom line. Asus created a mess they are unwilling to cleanup properly.
They are now scattering to find firmware that will work with the different hardware variances in the Primes instead of just recalling the ones with the ICS lockup issue and now we will all be stuck with firmware that will play well with some Primes but not others right now 1.13 is killing battery life of users who has 0 issues with their Primes prior to the update. My best advice at this point is to get a refund if you can they sold us a protoype because of their greed and willingness to rush the product.
I'll tell you what rubs me wrong that doesn't get mentioned much. I bought the Prime in large part based on all the glowing reviews from all the various tech websites that reviewed it before launch. How the hell did every single one of those sites and so-called tech experts miss all these issues? Makes me wonder if they are nothing but shills for the manufacturers.
the way i see it, i'm going to stick with the transformer prime because before the .13 update, my only problems were no gps (don't care) and occasional reboot (annoying, but hopefully fixed sooner or later).
that being said, this experience will definitely make me look elsewhere for my next tablet purchase. i've always had great products from samsung, so i'd take a look at whatever they might introduce, and there's always the mysterious google tablet that's rumored.
if i do decide again that asus has the best tablet available, i will never pre order it like i did here, and i'd probably wait 2-3 months to let someone else be the guinea pig and see if the tablet holds up.
This is a worthless thread that doesn't produce any fruit. I'm sorry, I'm not a fanboy, but it doesn't have to do with the prime.

One RMA horror story is one too many !
No, don't stick with them.
I got a Prime thinking I couldn't live without the keyboard. Turns out I hardly use it other than as a spare battery. I will not get another Asus product again. The Prime I now have is perfect and it is the best tablet available so I am happy for now. However, I had to return three to get this one and would be too afraid to send it in for an RMA if it does end up having a defect at some point. If it had an issue I would buy a new one at BB and return my defective one, swapping serial numbers. ASUS seems to just send your RMA back with a note stating either nothing is wrong or that the defect is caused by you based on the various posts around here. Asus has lost me as a customer. Their motherboards were great but after this...no thanks.

the tf201 is a great device (well, at least the ones that actually work are), but don't be fooled into thinking asus is a great company. they don't make transformers, they make gobots.

My thoughts exactly.
Are there any other tegra 3 tabs coming out within the next 20 days or so?

Nope...lol the polls have spoken. You see the majority. Just like in all the other polls. Stop letting a few scare you out of a device you want.
Use this motto to make your decision. My football coach use to tell this all the time and fits any scenario.
THINGS AREN'T AS GOOD AS IT SEEMS...AND THINGS AREN'T AS BAD AS IT SEEMS...SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN, REALITY FALLS.
My experience has been a nightmare. I purchased my tf201 on Jan 5th and waited until the 15 before I received it; not too bad. I had poor wifi and no GPS even after upgrading to ICS and applying the OTA update meant to fix said issues so I called Asus and got an RMA. I tools them I needed it back by Feb 10th so I could return it to the place of purchaseif it wasn't fixed properly. They told me turn around time would be 7 days (first lie) and there would be no problem meeting this timeline. I mailed it USPS priority and tracked the package; they received it on the 24th but by the 26th still hadn't updated the status so I called and they confirmed they had it, said turnaround time was 7 days and and I would receive an update shortly. By Feb 1st they updated the status but showed they received it on Jan 28th (what? Reaching should the 24th and customer support confirmed this? Also the 28 was Saturday;a noon business day..) I called back on Feb 5th because the status hadn't changed online and was told they hasn't looked at it yet and admitted there was an use with that, then they said turn around time was 10-14 days but sine w were in that window the 7 day lie didn't matter.. I told them to just mail it back while I can still return it fixed or not and they said they'd elevate the issue;I would hear from them within 24 to 48 hrs later. On the 7th (48hrs later) I still hadn't heard from them and called them back. They couldn't tell me why no one contacted me, still had my prime and offered to elevate my issue again (what does that do? It did nothing last time..) I asked to speak to a manager and they got one. She told me they had 10-14 days from the tune they started looking at it NOT the time the received it (seriously? WTF?) I asked her if that meant they could sit in it for 30 days and then still have two weeks? She replied that 30 days would be unusual. I told her to send my prime back because I only had until the 10th to return it and I was very frustrated at this point. She asked why I would want it back induced and I told her I didn't I just wanted to get my $500 back while I still could, she said she'd elevate the issue with urgency and two day shipping, I would hear something within 24 hrs. As of today Feb 11th (well past the 24hr timeline), I still haven't heard from Asus and have past my product return date. I had the product in hand for less than 5 days and had to pay shipping to my house and to Asus, Ive purchased accessories and Im pissed. I feel like Asus has purposefully held on to my prime to keep me from returning it; this is crazy. I've tried everything I can think of and need help but what can I do? I tried sending a PM to Gary Keys but he was in Japan and never responded (i'm also a long time reader and first time poster here on XDA which may be why he hesitated to respond).. Thanks again

Its a small majority and I do think its telling that nearly half of people who have responded say no. I would certainly say no based on my experience. This is a wireless device that can't hold a strong enough signal to use the internet beyond thirty feet from the router. Its obvious to me that Asus didn't test this device nearly enough before release.

Then you must not be following the Serial Number Unknown Thread. Gary basically disappeared from there (they were testing their "fix" at Asus, and that was over two weeks ago, nothing from them since), Asus hasn't offered a fix, the developers are closer it appears than anyone.
I have my Prime and I too fear the same thing. It is working fine now, but I dread even picking the thing up. I am afraid it will start acting up then I will have to send it away to Asus. I fear sending it to Asus. Heck, there are several people that RMA'd their devices only to have it returned because Asus "couldn't replicate the problem." This after they have kept it for 2 weeks and you cannot return it to the store. That is crappy service. Also, what about people who are watching their RMA status, not change, for weeks. That is pretty crappy service.

That is ridiculous. I heard from them like 18 days AFTER my Technical Inquiry was updated to URGENT. Yes, they upgraded it to URGENT and responded 18 days later. That is not URGENT, that is flat out laziness and negligence. Their response to the Serial Unknown issues was the same for me as everyone else "Here is how to update OTA, Here is how to update manually, Have fun!"
Yeah, that doesn't address, recognize, or fix the problem at all> HELL, you cannot even update OTA anyways, but they would have had to do some research on the issue to figure that out. Copy and pasting an answer is much easier, even if it does take 18 days.
I appreciate Gary Key coming here and trying to help people, but the more his name comes up, the more I start to roll my eyes. The guy is from Marketing. If that doesn't tell you how screwed up Asus is, I dont know what will. A guy from Marketing is not who should be assigned to help with these issues. How about an engineer?
I honestly feel, I really feel this way, that Asus is trying to buy time with us, make us hold these devices, until our return times expire. Then they can decide what they want to do, on their own time, at their own pace. THEY DO NOT WANT US RETURNING THESE THINGS TO THE STORE that is why a Technical Inquiry makes you wait nearly 3 weeks (most return windows are 2 weeks), the Serial Unknown Thread supposedly had a fix being tested, that was 2 weeks ago. The example in this thread, it was clear he wanted it back to return it, they kept it passed his return date.
Yeah, Asus is providing a great gameplan or blue print on how NOT to service and take care of your customers. I haven't even got to the points of 2 new transformers already being announced and probably in production when you still cannot go buy a Transformer Prime on the shelves.

35% of your customers saying "No you should not stick with this company" or "No you should not buy this product" is bad. That is not good. Just because a majority says "Yes, stick with them" that doesn't mean that 35% saying "NO" is good.
You take those numbers into a board meeting, and say "35% of our customers wouldn't recommend our product" and most companies would look at trying to fix the said product, or make that 35% change their mind. Asus doesn't appear to be doing that.

Where you get nearly half from 30 something percent..lmfao. now about half, over 47% have said yes. Everyone entitled to their opinion but numbers are numbers. Just like any other poll, the numbers always reflect what's really going on overall. A majority, big or small, is a majority n will always win the contest.
Nothing to do with your situation. Just explaining results of the poll. People love to look past the raw numbers n come up with some crazy reasoning to make their point seem more readable. Lol
I also agree, maybe Asus didn't test enough or test enough random units spread across different batches and manufacturing times. That we can agree on

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Either shills, or they don't really test the products all too thoroughly and basically write up most of the review based on the specs on the box.

Your response to my quote I mainly agree with BUT raw numbers are raw numbers. All these polls are made to try to see what's the overall feeling of all Prime owners. And like I said before Majority always reflect that. THE DELPHI EFFECT...look it up of you don't know. That's all these polls ever about. And that's how XDA prime owners feel about the subject of the poll. Just goes to show its not all or as bad as the minority try to make it seem. The issues minority is experiencing doesn't reflect what all is experiencing. That's my point n very easy to see. Especially looking at raw numbers from polls.

I ordered my TF201 32GB from Office Depot and received it in early January. Unboxed it, turned it on, installed some apps etc. then left charging overnight. Next morning noticed unit was not charged and down to 25% or so. Used another outlet but no improvement. Then froze the power unit as suggested in the forum. Called Asus Technical Support and troubleshooted the unit. CSR convinced it was the unit itself; asked me to ship unit to Texas facility (at my dime of course). 2 weeks later unit was shipped back (took 9 days since it was Fedex Ground from CA to NY!).
Unboxed unit and noticed that battery at 5%! Plugged in and... Nothing. Not charging!! Called ASUS - probably same idiot with whom I spoke the first time. Asked me to ship it back (on my dime) again to Texas but different RMA! Had no explanation as to why the RMA number should be different but I guess whoever they outsourced repairs to does not want to report to ASUS that they did not fix an issue the first time..CSR told me to only ship unit AGAIN. I challenged him that it may makse sense because, god forbid, it may be charger at fault! He said "ok" ship it back too.. thank you very kind of you to keep an open mind MR. ASUS CSR... I also mentioned that it seems unfair I pay for shipping again... so he sent me a Fedex label.. ground of course so 3-4 days to Texas (no ground pick up on weekends) and then another few days for the geniuses at whoever does the repair to figure it out and another 5-6 days to ship back.. so all in all 6 weeks since purchase and I have not used my Prime.. I had bought my wife an ASUS UX21 since she travels a lot for work but I returned it to Amazon for a refund within the 30 day window.. had to pay a fee to return but hey probably saved her (and me) a lot of aggravation.. her Toshiba ultrabook is working just fine thank you very much. Totally frustrated by idiots at ASUS. I cancelled the dock purchase at Office Depot too. As much as I do not like Apple products at least you can find an Apple Store everywhere and get a replacement and/or a technician to take a look and troubleshoot.. and iPads cost the same as a PRIME.. I am done with Asus.. once this is fixed it goes on Craigslist or eBay. Not sure what else I'll get.. anyone want to order my ASUS? It will be cheap.. once I get it back.
This reminds me of an experience we had with an Asus RMA, it was one of their eeePC models (back when they were the hot thing to get). We had to send the device back a total of three or four times before the issue was finally properly repaired. Asus can be kinda poor when it comes to some more obscure RMA situations, I totally understand your frustration.

Sounds completely understandable on your stance. Unacceptable customer service. Damn Asus, is the RMA place really that bad. Not all are bad experiences but there's been too many bad stories popping up lately. Good luck on choosing new device. As much as i like my Prime, if I had to go through what some people have, I'd give up on them also.
@OP
Why didn't you take it back to Office Depot in the first place? That's why retailers exist, to deal with the customer.
My 14-day return window is up today. I'm bringing back the TFP.
Even though I've had no problems with mine, I've heard too many stories like this. Too much negativity surrounding this device to allow me to enjoy it. I will downgrade my specs requirement and will go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Have I read this right? You have a perfectly fine functioning tfp, but are returning it because others have had bad experiences, and you have heard too many stories!
This sounds like you give more credence to other peeps woes rather than go by your own
Experiences. I had better not mention all the negative stories I have heard about the galaxy tab as I would hate to ruin your enjoyment of that tablet!!!
What
Is wrong with enjoying the ..perfect tfp that you have? Remember that peeps are far more likely to moan than praise, for every negative issue on this board there are many many more happy punters who have not posted anything anywhere

Yes...you heard it right. I previously had the Galaxy Tab and was fairly happy with it's performance (sans ICS). Really wanted to try the TFP...so I returned the GT and got one to try myself even with all of the negativity expressed here. While I encountered no real issues myself...I couldn't help think about whether or not the TFP would become but a blip on the radar for ASUS support and dev efforts. Sure, the TFP is newer technology than the GT....perhaps I'm just not willing to be one of their beta testers. The GT has been out long enough now to iron out a lot of the wrinkles...plus, ICS is still to come which will almost certainly improve performance.
I'm not slamming the TFP...just wasn't impressed enough with it over the GT to risk being subjected to Asus' tech support should that have been required.

Yours works but you're going to return it because other people have had issues?
Well.. I love my current Prime and I'm waiting on my second to get here next week along with my dock!
Newegg won't even accept my return because the serial number sticker next to the charging port is gone....
They don't care to turn it on and check the serial in settings to match it with the box and warranty papers.
Looks like a lot of us have had bad experiences because of this tablet. I'm waiting for the TF700T but I might be going with another company.

THIS^^^is a follower. Worried too much about what others are thinkn instead of making decisions based on hour own thinking. PLUS the comment about not sure about further Asus support or developement is ignorant at the least. ASUS has been constantly pumping out updates. Name one other company who released as many OTA updates as the Prime received. WE had ICS. We had root already out the box basically. We Had overclock in less than a month. We had Ubuntu n Linux n other flavors lf it already n less than a month. We already have extra drivers n such being added by dev. In less than a month. We already have root for ICS. We already have some minor theming going on. All this without even having bootunlocker tool yet. For you to make such a statement is kinda disrespect to hard work developers have been doing already here. Name another tablet as new as this one thst had so many things developement wise in its first month of existence. You forgetting its still barely over a month since people first started receiving their primes.
I COULD CARE less you returned it, that's your right to. But your reasoning is plain silly. You said although my prime runs perfect, I got frustrated at seeing all the negative stuff surrounding it. DO you know how many of us had our devices way before you n been dealing with all negative stuff? My prime works great also but not gonna return just because someone else dislikes theirs. Sounds like someone needs their hand held when choosing tablet or making any major decisions. GOOD THING THE other poster didn't mention horror stories he heard about the Galaxy tab or you might just throw a hissy fit.
DONT mean to sound harsh but JUST saying....it would be different if you were like OK I'm returning it because it performed poorly for me. Or I had a personal bad experience with Asus support. Not, well ima return it because Tom,****,n Jane dont like theirs...lmfao
Well good luck with new device anyways.
I had a wonderful experience with them. with a new working Prime delivered before I sent mine back.
But then again, I didnt demand a fix or talk like a privileged anus.

I care about my investment and how I feel about it. It's all speculation right now as to how much develpment will occur for the tfp at this point...guess I'm just bowing out as I don't wish to be part of the guessing. I do know the Galaxy Tab has been rewarded.
As far as me not experiencing any earth-crushing issues, I'd say that's true. However, I'm sitting here inside my home typing away on my GalaxyTab with a lock on 8 satellites. And wifi range is excellent EVERYWHERE in my home (and I am talking about a significant difference)...I now get my expected 22-24Mbps down from anywhere in my house whereas before would only achieve these speeds right beside my router and would get 4-6Mbps down further away. Still useable...but pale in comparison to the speeds I get with the GT.
I tested both the TFP and the GT within a month period....I feel better with the sammy and went back to it. How is that being a follower? I tried both extensibly for myself to arrive at a decision I felt comfortable with. As far as the negativity being a factor in my decision...hell yeah. Why shouldn't it be? Had I not been offered the chance to return the TFP easily, I never would have bought it based on what I've read here...some would say that's part of the research done when considering a purchase. After testing it out, I wasn't blown away...for my needs, there was nothing that the GT couldn't do just as well plus with gps and wifi working much better. For sure, it only has 2 cores...maybe I'm good with that.
I do hope everyone feels good about their purchase. I didn't and did the logical thing.

Easy as you are right. That is what i said n still feel the same. I ran by serial number by Gary n he told me it was from an early batch n someone would call me. Ill easily take the new hardware revision over older one. Especially if it might mean might GPS might finally work. I never said "I want them to repair mines". Plus although no dropped signals or anything, wifi signal still fluctuates alot. SO if older hardware was never really meant to be shipped out then people on older batch entitled to the upgrade, or sorts. I did pay for this device, Cash, and I do have a warranty. I never had an issue like others been posting. SO ILL TAKE THE MINI UPGRADE IF OFFERED. That's all. Plus from hearing the horror stories from returns like guy with device smashed, I'm not sure if I would even send mines in yet. Especially since overall having no problems. GPS aside. Remember, they are people out there that have GPS working to some extent one way or another. I having seen a lock yet, although I never tried for more than 5 mins n was indoors everytime. I haven't taken my prime outdoors yet. Plus based on my date of final purchase 12/22 I'd be entitled to any possible hardware fixes for GPS since mine is clearly shown to be purchased before they took GPS spec down.

Actually iPad's are $120 more.
received it in early January. so all in all 6 weeks since purchase and I have not used my Prime..
My question is how you figure 6 weeks? How many weeks are there in January if today is the 28th?
On a serious note, why not try to find a charger from Frys or OD or Staples. The ones for the OG TF 101 work and determine if the problem is the charger or not?

OK, completely understandable then. I see where you really coming from from this post.
As far as your second quote,I'm not really waiting for anything. I was just told my device is one of early one built. Device still works great but if I'm offered an opportunity to upgrade it to newer parts, then why wouldn't I. Lol. It'll make it even better, I would hope. I still love this device and has done everything I've asked of it n more. Only complaint I would have is GPS. I know that's very important to some people and deciding factor whether to keep it or not. For me, its no big deal. Everything is great aside from GPS. Just thankful I don't have issues some others been describing. Kinda makes it hard to believe when your device working so well. But its a given.
One thing though, Asus better step their game up with the quickness. I have a feeling if they don't address the possible issues on prime, their new upgrade model will be a fail LR do worse. As Prime n t-700 basically share all the same internal components. It'll be in Asus best interest to attack these issues head on. ASUS Losing people everyday. They gaining also but still. People with issues want to keep device but won't since some are riddled with issues. Can't be mad for someone wanting to return a device that's not working properly for them.
Hi,
I have recently sent my prime back to solve a few issues I was having, I have commented on this before but only today my status has changed to:
"Waiting-[WF4] Wait for Customer Confirmation-CID\OOW"
Which means customer induced damage!!!
WTF is that all about, the unit was in pristine condition when it went back. How many other people have had a similar issue with the RMA?
Apparently they are going to call me very shortly, I believe at this point if they even attempt to pull that one I am simply going to demand a refund on my money and part ways with ASUS for good.

This^ It is vital that anyone sending it in to ASUS to document their device thoroughly , pictures of the body, the screen on and off, front and back and all sides. ASUS is pulling this more often now, not only here in the US but elsewhere as well.
Now if you sent it in for a cracked screen it was even more vital that you documented your device before sending it in.
Was your device unlocked, rooted, overclocked?
Good luck, oh and if you have to, file a chargeback with your credit card disputing the fact they are saying it's CID, thats a last case scenerio though.
Get names, numbers and keep track of when you call and how many times and what they say so you have it all documented and if ASUS disputes your claims you can say lets hear the tapes, since they record your conversations.
MOST OF ALL KEEP IT CIVIL, DON'T YELL, SWEAR OR THREATEN, JUST BE FIRM BUT POLITE!
Hi,
That was the reason for making the thread I was hoping people who have had similar experience could post here and we could forward a link to Gary Key or at least to an ASUS customer representative.
I didn't take photos before it went away, to be fair you really shouldn't have too when dealing with a company like this!
Suppose I have a few darker pictures of when I sent them the screen bleed issues but you can hardly see the device really.
I sent it back for the following errors:
Quite bad back light bleed
Some keys on the dock didn't work
GPS poor (this wasn't a big concern at the time)
WIFI poor
System very laggy with lots of 'Wait' or 'Force Close' messages
There were a couple of other issues which I can't think of from the top of my head right now, but for a device costing £499 I expect pretty much perfection.

No my device wasn't unlocked/rooted/overclocked or anything, had hardly installed much on it to be honest.
Kicking myself that I didn't take photos of it before hand now, but as I said you really don't expect to have to. I'll take this all the way to the european courts if I have to, I'd like to know how many other people have experienced this?
Just managed to get through the customer service team on the phone, they confirmed that is it showing as Customer induced damage from a slight dent on the top.
Again I wish I would of taken photos as there was nothing wrong with it when I sent it. How possible is it that it could of been damaged on transit? It did fly from UK to Czech. It was in a Jiffy bag which was then boxed up.
Got a manager calling me back within the next 48 hours to discuss this further.
Heres a similar case
I went looking for this when I read your story. Warranty repair pulled a worse one, just lookat the pics this guy was sent. Note that he ultimately got a full refund or relacement, I forget which, you NEED to read this thread:

Im sending a prime for RMA when I get some bubble wrap (for black screen of death issues), They say just mail the tablet without the original box and cords cause it may not be included when its return. Im going to take pics and videos of the prime and wrapping process and include pics of it in the box to make sure they know what the prime looked like when it went in. All the pix will have time stamp.

For the "time stamp," use something like your phone that has a date/time that can't be easily altered. And I mean, physically set it next to your Prime when you take the picture, with the date/time showing on the phone. This would be the modern equivalent of placing a newspaper next to something to show that a picture was taken at least after a certain date.

From quite a few thread, sounds like the various company that Asus hired to check and repair unit aren't doing business honestly.
Your best bet, might be to contact Gary Key on this forum, or someone from Asus directly.
As previous poster stated you can ways do a chargeback. However, this is not a guarantee either. I had to do this with a laptop a few years ago. Sent it in because it was shutting off all the time. They claimed I OCd it which I did not. Gave them my CC, they replaced the MB, and as soon I got it back I called my cc company and disputed the charge. Got CC refunded never heard back. Its pretty bad when manufactured become the scammers.

I suppose I could do something like that but its more out of pride then anything else, i'm not going to admit to a fault which I didn't cause, it wouldn't change anything at there end. They need to start taking more responsibility and care with the items they receive. People pay a lot of money for the devices, especially here in the UK.
I am happy to fight it out with there managers, but the longer its away the more inpatient i'm getting so the harder fight they are going to have. Don't half miss it though, having to use my laptop or girlfriends ipad 2 and it just isn't the same!!
A small update got an email stating the charges and pictures. It looks like somehow it has a really sharp deep dent on the LCD cover. By the looks of it , it really must of took a smack to it. They also stated they want another £125 of my money to fix it.
I'm sure this company is taking the piss. That was the last straw anyways I believe, there's no chance I'm going to accept an item back with damage like that and to be honest I don't think I want a product made by Asus again after this trouble.

Lol this is ridiculous that we have to do this. My Prime has arrive since the 14th and still nothing. Called a few days after it arrived and they said they will get is "escalated" and it will update within 5 business days. Still nothing. Now their check RMA status website doesn't even work for me.
Meanwhile I read about how some guy dropped his iPad and brought it to an Apple store and they gave him a new one for free.
On the picture thing: You could print out a weather forecast from weather.com or some other time-sensitive thing that really can't be faked prior to the print out. Your clock/phone/time stamp can be changed by you, a weather forecast is a matter of record.
I put some government meeting that said "live" on a video while also taking video and pictures of the prime. This way they know exactly when that "meeting" took place.
After checking videos of unpacking they said they will accept the damage is from their side and have now proceeded to fix my prime. Should have it back early next week now.
Taken so long but glad its finally over, well unless they of course haven't fixed it fully. Some testing will take place when it gets back.

Good for you!!!
I am glad you came out of this without taking a loss, but Asus may be the worst company ever when it comes to handling RMA's I have heard repeatedly that the Motherboard/Component side of the business is really GOOD at handling RMA's but even accounting for the"Only pissed off people take the time to write about it" and there HAVE been a few isolated cases of good experiences, if you read the RMA threads for the Prime just on XDA alone, it is enough to scare the crap out of anyone contemplating an RMA repair.
And at first, like early January, folks had no other option. If the tablet was exhibiting problems, there was no stock at retailers to replace it with, so a retail return or exchange was not a viable option.
Knowing all this, when Asus PAID to have my tabled shipped in to the Texas facility (Grapevine, I believe?) and I got confirmation the next day that it was signed for, I started right in on them, sending emails to a nice little list I had compiled, stating "There is a problem with my RMA, already.
That got them to proactively put things in motion to replace the tablet with a new one (It had physical cosmetic defect right out of the box when opened the first time. By being VERY proactive and staying one step ahead of them (I am pretty sure Asus contracts the repairs out to 3rd party company(s) I was able to get my replacement back the same week, but I must stress it was not a case of them stepping up, I had to go into my "Most annoying person in the world" routine from almost the very start, and it was a LOT of work.
So much so that I truly hesitate to go down that road again. I have marginal WiFi, GPS that works, for 10 seconds at a time. I really SHOULD RMA the thing, even the great "Spun Metallic" back cover is defective, in bright light you can see deep "grooves" that appear to be some type of warp in the aluminum, perhaps having occurred during the casting of the piece. All I know is, it looks like crap, not like a nearly $700 tablet

Search the thread I opened, I had same experience, but I started to call managers at Asus Nordic, and at last I got it back without paying anything.

Well I was told to go elsewhere to complain about Asus and the problems I am having with the $680 64Gb prime I bought. So since Diamondback is getting tired of closing threads and deleting posts, I decided on starting a thread were people who need or want to vent can come and vent. And to be fair if you have good things to say about Asus or your Prime please share it here.
As I have tried to say before I like my Prime but am getting tired of the problems that have not been fixed or pop up after an update is released..
I think the gps dongle, while a nice gesture was a misstep for Asus. I would have just taken that on the chin. The hardware/software problems that have not been resolved are far worse. I don't give a s- about gps. Again, nice move on their part, but the dongle does me zero good if the damn thing crashes and freezes. I'll take the wifi issues, it's not that bad. Just give me a functional f'n unit that doesn't run slower than my ibm 286. \rant
There is a class action suit going on. I was actually contacted today by one of the lawyers doing it. You can email [email protected] and tell him you want to be apart of it.
I miss the complaint thread. At least there was the hope that Asus would actually read their own thread, which ended up not being the case.

its the same lawsuit but its not going anywhere really. The case against Asus isnt strong. Its likely to get thrown out before it even really begins. Hence the reason no official filing has even been done yet. This is just something someone "Wants" to bring against asus. Nothing thats actually happening or going on yet.

Absolutely true.
Asus took the easy way out by sending us a 4 dollar piece of plastic and wire, instead of working on the actual issues.
Since i see demandarin posting in this thread, so much for your update prediction. This is getting totally ridiculous. , and Asus seems fine with it.I have bought so much Asus stuff over the years, i will be rethinking that, after the prime fiasco,

This is not correct, the papers were filed over two months ago, the case is strong and will move forward in good time. ASuS as already been to two informal hearing at the various law firms involved when they were in CA. And as stated in previous post, you can let the team know that you'd like to be a part if they need anymore actual users of this product to appear in court. I've been watching mr. demandarin for quite some time and I'm sorry to say, but I feel he is either privileged by ASUS or just a tireless fan boy. Nothing wrong with enjoying a product and company that as serviced you to your satisfaction, but most of us that have kept quite for some time have followed long and tedious arguments that involved this individual. I give credit where credit is due but do not idolize any company, person, device or anything else so I can be a little more unbiased when assessing a situation. If you are unhappy with a product, this is the place to seek help, and if you can get a actual rep to listen, good for you! If you can't, then it's time to take legal action and get louder so that others are protected from having the same treatment as you. So by all means, follow the previous posters advice, seek out legal action. It will be funny to see how many fans will have their hand's out for the settlement money when it is awarded. Mark my words.
Thanks
I am glad to see that this tread is getting used. I also want to thank all who posted here as I have learned more about what is going on and what people are looking for. I have learned that I am not the only one who wants a stable working Prime over a GPS dongle.
I also would like to know if anyone has tried to use a Huawei E369 Datacard with their Prime. I have read that the Huawei 17xx was working but would like to buy the newest one out that will work so it will last at least 5 years before it becomes outdated.
I've noticed as of late that asus has stfu about everything. I realize that Gary was sick, but "official posts" are becoming fewer and farther between. They are going into defense mode. They know they are sol to fix the issues without having to put out a full recall which is a huge embarrassment and going to cost them an arm and a leg, plus street cred. It's getting to end game folks. They better be brewing a software miracle, or an overall solution. I think a lawsuit has legs with the horrible performance, Dongle be damned.
I would think a class action lawsuit has a foothold. There is absolutely no way that Asus did not know about the wifi and GPS issues when they launched. They got caught up in the "iPad killer" hype and wanted to get them out by Christmas. The lack of advertising by Asus and the retail establishment is icing on the cake.
Funny thing is that I picked up a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 for my birthday last week and it is snappier than my Prime (especially when browsing and installing from the Play store)
The lack of updates is disconcerting as well. Perhaps there are no further firmware/software fixes for this device.
It is simply a small blip on the Android Tablet radar that will go down in history as a complete and utter failure.

There has been a ton of discussion about this just today, problem is it keeps getting shut down, either by reported posts, or, over zealous mods, either way, the ends the same
The mysterious , unreleased firmware should be telling everybody something, the og transformer has had the update to .24 for quite sometime, the prime testers have had it for at least 2 weeks or more, one in particular gave today as a release date, even though some of those testers are reporting good results, I'm not buying it. If it was ready for prime time it would have dropped. It seems like I have new issues pop up every day, or the same issues manifesting in different ways
I have multiple issues with prime, i am going to ask Asus for a refund, probably more than ask, and go with something else, other tegra 3 tablets available, and the A700 and thrive are getting rave reviews, They certainly can't be worse than the Prime, and i doubt they will go backwards with no explanation like the prime.Asus is going to lose my business for sure
I have 2 different PM's to both Asus_usa and Gary key, for 2 and a half days now, so far no response yet, for dedicated forum support, thats unacceptable.

opps... didnt see someone posted the link to the filing. lol But If anything comes from it remains to be seen..
All I want is the browser sped up and I would be perfectly happy. Gary mentioned that there would be an upgrade to browsing in the new firmware but after this much time it leads you to think that it must be a hardware issue. Although Asus has always been outed by other sources before they give out any real information.
I bought a top of the line Android Tablet and I swear my girlfriends Kindle browses the internet faster.
It is also odd to see that new post the other day about the Asus Nexus Tablet. It is hard to believe that they would be able to meet Demand or Expectations after all of the Prime problems.
Yea I am getting tired closing all your threads....
What's so hard about posting in existing threads?
I understand that you want answers, I want them too, but making new threads each day complaning about the issues won't get you any answers...
Gary doesn't answer in threads, so maybe the situation will change with the new guy - Asus_USA - but until then please use the existing threads.
I was browsing around change.org today and I came across this. A petition to recall the prime and give users a full refund or an upgrade path to the 700. Not sure why no one but the person who started it signed it. I know if you ***** enough asus will refund your $ so maybe that's why the poster didnt pursue the petition?
http://www.change.org/petitions/asustek-recall-the-transformer-prime
edit: I just signed it for ****s and giggles.. I doubt anything will come from it especially since it doesnt seem the person who posted it is really pushing it.
Probably because it was created yesterday.. I believe.
Oh god, here we go again.

what do you mean?? I was just asking if anyone has seen it... so oh god yourself.
actually, there was one created with exact same theme a long time ago. it never really gained any traction as the path to upgrade wasn't realistic from a business point of view. I'm not sure if the one you have linked to is the same one. But I've seen a petition just like that made several months ago. I think when we all first heard of the Infinity Pad. Made alot of people mad..lol

yeah I doubt anything will come from it, Just was wondering if anyone else came across it.
But I do know they are offering really unhappy users refunds (my friend was told by gary he could get a full refund for the tablet and dock)
My way of looking at that is this:
If they refund everyone who is extremely unhappy they have to refund them for the full retail price of the tablet and the dock(and I'm guessing tax?). So they have to dish out the retail price of it when we all know it cost them a fraction of that amount to produce them. I honestly think from a business stand point and upgrade path would be better because then they would only have to replace the tablet(assuming the docks are compatible) which is much cheaper for them then refunding the full retail purchase amount. Even if they didnt upgrade the tablet to the 700 and just replaced the backplate on the prime and maybe the wifi/bt and gps modules it would also be cheaper for them than having to refund the purchase price.
And just let me say again.. I was just asking if anyone has seen it or heard of the one I linked. Not trying to promote, have it gain momentum or start a WW3. Just simply wanted to know if anyone else stumbled on it like I have.
These petitions are always worthless.
You bought a consumer product. If you don't like it or it doesn't meet your expectations, return it to where you got it within the return period.
I have never seen a return period that is less than 14 days, and if it takes you more than two weeks to realize that the product doesn't meet your expectations, there is something obviously wrong with you.
If you waited months for an update to be released in order to make the device meet your expectations, I am sorry but you are a fool. You should always buy a device for what that device is NOW, not for what is may become in the future.
In any event, if you want an "upgrade path" here it is:
Sell the Prime on eBay. If you have taken good care of your device you should get at least $400 for it. Use that $400 to help pay for the Transformer Infinity.

I think you need to read my post again.. did I say anything about being unhappy? No.. Did I say I wanted an upgrade? No. All I did was ask if anyone came across it... gessh..
I even signed it with this comment:
"I agree there have been many issues with the prime. Not all users have issues but it seems more have them than not have them. I will support this as I do feel the prime wasnt ready to be released. I had issues with my first 2 units. The only issue I have with my current unit is some backlight bleed but my tf101 has worse BL bleed than my prime"
And I do feel the device wasnt ready for prime time. I'm pretty happy with mine. the only issue I really have is the screen bleeding and that's not even that bad and since I have squaretrade I'm thinking of popping it open and fixing that myself.
Hell I was outside yesterday and tried gps for the first time on this unit without the dongle and I got a 12/13 sat lock. Today I tried and I got 8/9. I was pretty surprised by that

Dude, take the bug out of your ass!
Did I say anything specifically about you?
Did I mention you in any way?
My comment was 100% focused on the futile nature of these online petitions, which generally go ignored by manufacturers and which are generally started by people who don't exercise the procedures that already exist that allow customers to gain compensation for purchases that do not meet expectations.

ok fair enough..lol But the fact that asus is offering refunds to people really unhappy says something as well. It says the company knows they kinda screwed up. Because in most cases: yeah, it is your problem and they dont have to offer you a refund at all. Like you said you have at least 14 days(if not longer) to return to the store. But the fact they are offering refunds to people who ***** enough does say something. Some companies no matter how much you put up a stink wont issue you a refund. A replacement? yes, but how often do they offer full refunds?
Asus should offer a upgrade and make Nvidia pick up the tab for the not ready for prime time T3

I think any company that is serious about their customers does the same kind of thing. At least, HTC replaced my malfunctioning EVO 4G no questions asked. Samsung has replaced televisions and refunded me for broken televisions with no problems.
Some companies give you the run around when it comes to this kind of stuff (Looking at you Sony) but for most companies it isn't worth the negative press, especially in this day and age of internet blogging and twitter.

you must be good. haha I've never been offered a refund. Replacements I have been offered but never a full refund. Hell I just dealt with an issue with Dell. They replaced my laptop with a refirb(accidental warranty) and started having issues with it two months later. They sent a tech to fix it, he fixed those issues but didnt send him a preloaded HD just a blank one so I have to load everything myself, and after the repair the keyboard didnt fully work. So they come again to fix that, they fix that then one speaker dies.. It took me filing a BBB complaint to have them contact me to give me a brand new system. No matter how much I *****ed before they just wanted to keep trying to fix it.

Oh and sorry for being a little snippy.. It's hot and humid as hell in NYC today and all the garbage is out for collection tomorrow so you can imagine the streets just smell like roses
Technically, refunds aren't given to just any and everyone who asks for it. you have to meet specific criteria for them to even consider it. Mostly just early adopters or people who bought prime before they removed GPS From their official spec, like beginning or first week of January, are eligible. but even then terms have to be met and not all of them can get it. just wanted to clear that up so everyone don't get their hopes up thinking they can get a refund. there's already several reported cases here in xda of people being denied.
I'm still waiting to hear back on certain info that'll clear up alot of things. I think Asus knows even people who have good working tablets might try to get a refund just because infinity pad right around the corner..lol. so they trying to eliminate refunds that have no real basis for getting one. Chances are very high that if you never sent your tablet in for an RMA, then try to come out the blue wanting a refund, they will deny it. They will just say send it in for RMA.

I was just about to comment on this ... I purchased my Prime on December 24th and after trying to, more or less, put up with horrible WiFi, completely non-functional GPS, and a proposed dongle solution that was not satisfactory, I was able to return my Prime (and dock) to Asus for a full refund. As a matter of fact, I just shipped it in last week, so I am still waiting on the refund, but I don't foresee any issues. The reason they let me return it was due to GPS issues, and probably legal ones on their part since GPS was a feature when i bought, but did not work, was removed from the spec list, and the solution was not satisfactory. I said all that, to say that the petition is not necessary. If you have a legitimate reason for requesting to return you TF201, they will probably work with you. On the other hand, people trying to get a refund just to get an upcoming model just need to learn some patience, and not jump on the first generation of something (ie. tegra 3). With that said, if your reason for requesting a refund has to do with the GPS issue, I was finally able to get someone with the authority to authorize one in what he said was the "Transformer Prime GPS issue department."
I call the 1-800 number for gamestop weekly to see if they are doing it yet, but they keep telling me that until an official recall of this pos is announced, it isn't going to happen. Maybe more of us should keep calling. We only have a little over 3 months left until all bets are off because best buy and amazon are doing it based on the 1 year manufacture's warranty.
The number is 1-800-883-8895. Lets get those calls going so maybe they will change their minds. I know that I won't ever buy anything from gamestop again because of this.
The more of us that call over and over will make them see that this is a problem. Tell them that Best Buy and Amazon are doing it.
I like the idea, it would be funny if it actually worked. Unfortunately I bought my prime at Nebraska Furniture Mart, and when I asked them about it they just laughed at me and asked if I was serious, which I don't blame them. This should be Asus' responsibility.
I agree that it is definitly Asus's responsibilty but they could care less. They are just playing the silent game or tell us to RMA it so they can dent it and scratch it up and then send it back unrepaired.
So now its up to the retailers to step it up like best buy and amazon to show that they have their customer's backs and shove these manufacture defective pos's right back to Asus.
I mean come on. I can't even open GMail without it crashing and having to reboot. Not to mention playing a game. Oh and I love having to switch seats with my brother in law who has an Ipad so that I can be closer to the router to get a signal.
I tried to call mediaworld (a very common store here in italy), where i bought my prime, just for curiosity, saying exactly what people who got an exchange said to bestbuy. They answered me that the only thing i could do was RMA the product to have its back cover replaced with a plastic one ................ (i addressed wifi as the biggest problem of the tablet). Here in italy, in italian stores, having a product exchanged like bestbuy products is a wonderful dream!

I will join you & call weekly as well. Mine is from Gamestop... sigh......=/
Although, this is really ASUS responsibility.
I sent an email as opposed to calling them as I'm in the UK which I have quoted below. It's a tad bit melodramatic but whatever .
Hello,
As I'm sure you are aware many of those who have purchased Asus TF201 Transformer Primes have faced a mountain of problems ranging from rather tame issues such as minor light bleed or a couple of dead or stuck pixels to major issues that make the device borderline impossible to use such as very poor WiFi range and speeds and system hangs and freezes that make something as simple as changing something in the settings a needlessly difficult chore.
Now, many of us (And I stress the many) who have encountered the aforementioned problems have looked to Asus directly to rectify and fix these issues whether it be via updates to the tablets software or by shipping off their tablet to Asus for them to fix it directly. These fixes have not came which has left those with issues with a $500+ tablet that has for some, become a paper weight. Those who have sent their tablet off to Asus have came back with horror stories such as physical damage to the tablet itself including scratched backplates and screens and even bends in the aluminium casing on the Prime, not to mention the more than a month long turnaround only for them to receive their Primes back battered and bruised with none of the problems they sent it in for fixed.
As you are likely aware, both Best Buy and Amazon have been either giving customers who have came in to complain about their Primes store credit which has been swiftly used to buy what the Prime should have been, the TF700 Infinity also by Asus, or full refunds including shipping. This is what I would hope to hear yourselves doing as you as a company will have a much higher chance of getting something back from Asus than us consumers whether it be actual fixes/replacements on the faulty Primes or refunds on the stock of Primes that were returned to you. I would be very happy to receive store credit to spend in your store on the Infinity given the chance but I know that this is unlikely to happen.
I know that this email will fall on deaf ears and will probably be received by some guy at a desk employed to respond with generic emails but whatever, I tried.
Regards,
Jordan.

Hi,
any infos for this replacement? Can the back cover be replaced with the TF300 or TF700 ones?
Just sent my prime in yesterday regarding weak or unacceptable wifi signal...
Two days ago I called and after 5 CSR`s who all told me I was pretty much left with the tf201, based on it was 10 months past thier policy and that with no official recall nothing they could do. So I asked for another supervisor . After explaining the issues she told me she would call me back within 24 hours , low and behold 18 ours later she calls an says they would be happy t exchange for a tf700t and it would be shipped out overnight. And if I could please follow email instructions on returning my prime. Sounded reasonable. To me still doubtful I awaited and sure enough not even 24 hours later ups delivered a tf700t. I was very calm , collected and reasonable with all cars and am very pleased with the results. Hope this helps someone. Patience worked 2.5 hours of phone time and a small wait all it took for me. I stressed the Wifi issues to them and let them know Asus admitted to faulty design.

Hi Bentear. Great news about your prime. It wasn't clear to me what store you had called. I purchased my prime from Amazon in January and have sent it back twice. The second time, the wifi was a little better, all the other problems untouched or made worse. Tablet is dying a little more each day. If you could let me know the store and the supv. name, I will rename the 4th of July BENTEAR DAY
---------- Post added at 03:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 PM ----------
I sent the Asus CEO, [email protected] and Chairman, [email protected] emails about my tablet defects. Of course, I haven't heard anything back and don't expect to. They have all this BS about caring for their customers on their website, brochures, etc. They only care about bringing people in, grab their money and then kick them out the backdoor. Well, those are the email addresses in case any of you want to contact them. I've posted the addresses on all the forums I belong to, the two Facebook pages that Asus has and a mens room stall. LOL. I had meant to post the addresses everyday at least somewhere but health problems put that on hold. Time to hit the trash sellers again and start the circuit back up.

Well, i don't know if those e-mail adresses are real, but i give it a shot and send the following mail
Hi,
I'm writing to you, with the hope that my mail can alert you to the bad image Asus have in this moment, mostly related with the attitude showed about the Asus TF201 issues.
I have one of this devices, which is supposed to be a high end device.
However, it is not... and that's because the device is full of issues, mostly related to hardware design flaws. The known design issues are:
- Metal back plate, which blocks Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS signal.
- Poor I/O performance which slows down the tablet overall performance and causes instability.
Many people are waiting for 10 months for a magic solution or a recall/refund by Asus. However, all we have see is desperate attempts to fix the hardware issues with unsuccessfully software patches, and even those patches release is frozen for 3 months now.
Some stores on US (Amazon, Best Buy, ... ) are starting to refund their clients, and guess what, people is exchanging their Asus tablets for tablets from other brands.
I believe this is embarrassing for Asus image and you should do something about it.
One idea of damage control is to recall all the TF201, and exchange it for free with TF700, which have some of this issues solved (not all, unfortunately...).
You can see how people are feeling about Asus on this famous Android developers Forum --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1412
I expect you read this e-mail and take some measures about this problem.
Thanks in advance for reading my e-mail.

Cool! I also got mine from gamestop and since then my micro HDMI died, gps sucks, and my router is outside of my room and I only get 2/4 bars on this thing. Just terrible. Will definitely attempt to contact for an exchange/refund
several weeks ago I went to gamestop where i bought my prime and exchange it. ok the story is that I bought the extended warranty on it and the prime I had was not giving me much problems so I was riding it out. how ever my wife by mistake broke my hdmi port so i decided to go and exchange since i had the extended warranty. so i went in and ask the manager to please exchange to the infinity or put my money in a gift card he said was not able to because they had the prime in stock. so he went and gave me a new prime and gave me a new warranty for free. so on my way home i decided to stop at a different game stop. talked to a manager and went back and forward for almost an hour it was not till I said what I'm going to do with this thing since i don't want it and is brand new in a box and i refuse to open it to test if it is good or not and the horror stories of rma and last when I said I was contacting corporate since he was not been helpful in a very respectful way that he agreed to exchange my tablet since it was new for a infinity. that was Saturday and on Tuesday he called me to go and pick it up and went and renew my warranty again for free for another year. so guys don't give up on this it will not be as easy as amazon or best buy but it can be done.

That assumes we took out extended warranty, which most of us didn't. They'll do sweet FA themselves and tell us to take it up with Asus. Glad you had some success though .
