I rarely start new threads here on XDA, but I thought this topic was deserving of having its own thread.
Many of us who had perfectly working Primes have had our units seriously screwed up by ASUS' .13 firmware update. Whether it's the sleep of death, ridiculous battery drain, or both, many of our tablets have went from working great to being borderline useless. It's as if many of our Primes were sacrificed to fix a few other Primes that had freezing problems that we never had.
With that said, I don't see why we should have to wait for weeks while Asus works on a fix for their last "fix" that caused these problems in the first place, when there is a perfectly good firmware already written that works great for most users. Why can't ASUS just give us the option to go back to the .11 firmware while they continue working on newer firmware? Why is this so hard? Am I missing something?

I could be wrong, but as far as I can see, various firmware versions are available for download from the Asus website - at least, they are from the UK website (which includes US-centric firmware): http://uk.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/#download
<Checks>
Yup, the global Asus web site has them too. There are other resources other than just XDA Developers, you know! ;-)

Yes, but manual update will not allow you to downgrade firmware to an earlier version...
Crap! I'm in the same boat.
I would love to revert back to .11
Battery drain is just too much to ignore.
Revert Firmware
As much as I hate the battery drain at this point the Reboots and Sleep of Death ARE KILLING ME.
.11 had a Perfectly working Prime. WIFI, BT everything great (well GPS didn't work but expected that..) No reboots etc.. Loved my prime... Update to .13 Firmware and Have the sleep of death, random reboots... going on 10+ reboots in 10 hours since updating this morning...
This sucks.
Please Please PLEASE give me a way to revert to .11
Be patient and the roms will come...

To be honest at this point I just wish they would give us our money back this product is a bust too many quality control issues.
the only way you'll get your money back is if you bought it from asus directly, but if you bought it at a retail store, you have to go back to a retail store.
however, im sure you know you can send it to rma and you'll get back it back fixed in a few weeks. sorry
In theory if someone could figure out where misc_version was stored then maybe someone with more brains than me could write a script to change this to a lower version allowing downgrade.
I may be barking up the wrong tree of course.
I had issues after an earlier firmware upgrade and a factory reset fixed it. I suggest trying that before investigating returns, downgrades or RMA's.

Factory resets have fixed a TON of problems I've had with my prime. I do it after every ota now lol.

This was the last straw for me. I'm stuck with the Prime, but I will ABSOLUTELY NEVER BUY ANOTHER ASUS PRODUCT EVER AGAIN. They're an awful, awful company.
Edit: Also, it's ridiculous to be expected to do a full reset after every OTA update, especially when Asus releases one every other week to try and fix problems they created with the previous OTA update.

Yep, I have said it a few times already in other threads, give us back our . 11
I would just be patient for a few days... wait for some unofficially, official news on the manufacturer's end, and we'll hopefully receive another update that could resolve the newly presented issues.

it was tweaked to account for processor clock differences in the Primes experiencing ICS lockup issue unless they allow us to somehow roll back to 1.11 this isn't happening anytime soon.
Im with the thought of the factory reset and installing apps one at a time. Im updated to the latest nd havent had any issues save the youtube thing that started before the update. Ive had apps crash to home screen and either ditched them or reinstalled. No battery problems here. What I noted after the update was fewer app crashes, better (not stronger) wifi preformance and the noise line that was popping through the screen every now and then hasnt happened since. Im thinking a great deal of issues are apps that are not optomized with ICS.

Ah. Fair point.
When I took my TF201 to the Asus service centre here in Hong Kong (yes they are Asus, not a contractor) I asked if they could roll me back to Honeycomb. Their answer was cannot. Only at the factory!
They are keeping the bootloader secure.
Is .13 so bad? Some of us in eu with constant reboots can't wait.

I've finally got my TP in the mail yesterday, but after doing the firmware updates, all it does is lock up and reboot. I'm returning it to Best Buy today. Now the question is, if I want an ICS tablet (at least dual core), do I need to order another TP? Or do I have other options? I know the Tab won't be getting ICS.
Problems after upping to ICS are caused by data carried over from honeycomb not being compatible with ICS. A simple data wipe would take care of it... but I guess that's too much work. Yeah, just return it and get another one. I'm sure after 5 returns or so a simple data wipe would sound like less work.
Excuse me, your highness, but I've already done a factory reset. Twice. Not only that, but there was no data on it to begin with. Opened box> OTA .33> OTA ICS> Freeze bootloop bootloop freeze bootloop freeze bootloop bootloop
Well, you get the picture.

anyways, the sammy 10.1 is getting the update from what i understand. just not the old tab (7"). the samsung 10.1 and xoom2 are good options, but why not just swap the prime for a working one? Besides the GPS, its a perfect tablet, quadcore, keyboard, high res screen with super ips. I have worked with several tablets including the ipad, but this is definitly the best one thus far.

Not sure that asking about other tablets belongs in a prime thread?
as of this second, no other tablet (aside from that super cheap one that was technically first, but was running a dev build of ICS) has official ICS.
i think there's an alpha of CM9 for the galaxy tab (tegra2 models), which will get an ICS update at some point, but going by samsung's track record for updates, that will probably be at the end of summer.
the biggest plus asus has imo, aside from providing an excellent bargain for the price of its tablets is that they have so far been the fastest at updating their products, i mean hell, the ICS update for the prime got released EARLY, who else that is an android OEM has ever released ANYTHING early?
the xoom still doesn't have ICS and it's a google experience device, so that should show how fast asus is at updating.
personally, i'd go ask for another prime if you want to own something right now, while there's new stuff with fancy panels in the pipeline, nothing else is going to be out before summer that can compete with the prime.
my guess is the tf101 is going to be the next tablet with a 4.0 update, then it's a crapshoot as to who gets it out next, probably acer or toshiba, then moto, then (eventually) samsung.
I am still waiting on my TP and have been since the 24th of dec I researched for MONTHS before I picked it. there is nothing that will hit this tablets caliber for at least 1/4-1/2 the year. Asus is cheep( tablet wise) and updates are out FAST

where did you get your prime
i got mine from best buy in USA and got update notification when i did a check for update
try doing a manual check for update
settings>about tablet>software update>check update
Please indicate in the title that this is a question, otherwise it reads like you have seen the update.
If we knew when it would be, there would be a post about it already...
I am fairly certain the ICS update was global. Are you connected to internet and does your Prime have serial numbers listed? It seems that people that don't have serial numbers are unable to get the update.

No only US and TW models got it yet. Confirmed by ASUS.
I got it from PC World on the 2nd Jan. Tried the manual check but nothing yet so must assume it will come in the next few days.

no update for me
There will be no update until the WW version of the update is sent live. As Diamondback2010 said only US and TW updates are live at the moment. If I'm not mistaken, Canadians are also using WW version so even though they're only a stones throw away from the US they don't have ICS either. Just assume the 12th and any earlier will be a bonus (so long as you don't end up with an update brick).

Congrats UK! Glad to hear that I can update my tablet once it actually gets shipped from UK without having to worry about backups prior to update.
Downloading as I type. Fingers crossed my perfect Prime stays that way!
Got mine this morning... cant' really tell much has changed, but it just feels that little bit smoother and finished.
Camera was stuttering after the update, i'm sure nothing that reboot wont sort.
Looking great to me so far. So smooth, just shows how bad Honeycomb was when you have a basis for comparison, under the hood.
Anyone else finding the check for firmware update button is greyed out?
So I sent a email to Phandroid, TalkAndroid and Droid-Life today asking them to run a story about the many issues because I feel its being swept under the rug due to CES and everything and was hoping ASUS would actually asknowledge the issue if a major site posted it.
I got a response from TalkAndroid just now asking for links to the issues, so lets hope they run the story and ASUS actually has to listen.
For the record, I understand it's a issue that isn't effecting EVERYONE, but it is affect SOME PEOPLE and needs to be addressed. And i'm not only talking about the Wifi/GPS issue, I'm talking about the many people who are stuck with a tablet that reboots every 5 minutes. No one has been given an explanation and that needs to change.
I think it is time Asus release the unlock bootloader so XDA developer can develop ROM that will improve all the issues Asus brougt upon us.

We need the ICS kernel source, too.
So many noobs here that it's hard to tell if there are any ICS issues or not (allowing for one or two failures on new hardware actually being broken). All looks fine to many people.
I found a solution to the install but i dont think it will help everyone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439999
And some people (my friend included) updated ICS out of the box, no installations before hand and had the same issues.

THIS.
The problem is this forum is filled with garbage posts complaining about some issues that are either inherent to the design or that are tough to quantify (wifi, gps, etc.), and it's hard to distinguish this from real, objectively identifiable issues ICS update issues, including:
1) a small subset of users no longer can use their mobile device to create a wifi hotspot that the Transformer Prime can recognize (ad-hoc/infrastructure mode compatibility issues)
2) some number of users simply cannot update because their Transformer Prime, from the factory, does not have a valid serial number.

I can tell you that my Prime experience has been great. Build quality, performance, etc...zero complaints. Easily the best Android tablet I've used (and I've used a lot.)
Perception is not reality. With the exception of those with real hardware issues, the complainers can usually be grouped into people with lofty expectations.

If it's fully installed ICS then a factory reset will not take it back to HC. If that is happening with your friend's Prime then that is most peculiar.
A few people have had success with draining the battery completely waiting for an hour or so and then rebooting with the charger. It was posted elsewhere on the forum that this method has helped several people who have this constant bootloop issue.
Worth a try for sure.

I'm not even worried about ICS problems...yes there are some, but it will eventually be fixed by software updates. The real problem are hardware issue. We know the majority does not have good gps, some have poor wifi, and some are saying blutooth is a problem. I have GPS problem myself. All other things will come in time.
Also, my buddy said after his first update it was fine until he upgraded the camera, anyone else?
My prime reboots at least 3 or 4 times a day, whether it's browsing the web, using google maps, or using any of the other apps. It stalls, then restarts. It's running ICS.
I really like the Prime, had no defects, but I'm going to have to return it because this is totally unacceptable. Is anyone else having this issue?

So after using it for a couple of hours, I'm still getting multiple random restarts with the latest update I'll do a factory reset anyway before I bring it back, but quite honestly why should I have to my spend time trying to work out what works and what doesn't? if I can't use the device for its intended purpose, I can't see any sense in keeping it.
It's really a shame, I wanted to like the TP, on paper it has everything I was looking for in a tablet. The reality though is it doesn't live up to expectations. Random restarts are just not acceptable when you're trying to compete with the iPad, it's not good enough.
I was in the same boat and the update yesterday did not help.
There's another update floating around that was sent out by an Asus tech to try out. I installed that one last night, too and have not had any problems since then.

@Mods, last post
Just read through too many threads and now in a state of OVERLOAD! lol... Anyway, I just ordered my new transformer prime (2/11/12) and it should be here on Tuesday.
My question is, "Are the new Primes, that are rolling out now with 4.0 installed from factory, having all these issues with WiFi / Bluetooth and GPS"? All the posts i have read seam to be user upgrade issues.
Sorry if i am wrong and posted a duplicate thread. I am alllll frazzled now and was really looking forward to my $$$ Prime purchase
Thanks,
Lee
Most likely it will be the same for you, I hope not, but its not software related. Its hardware related causing the problems with the prime.
Ah man, what a huge bummer. So it's pretty much hit or miss? Some people getting lucky having no issues? I have read a few good posts (cant remember url, maybe here), that some market apps were causing system crashes like Google + and Google Maps. I guess those issues are not related to Wifi / GPS, but are causing system instability and such. Well, my plan will be to first use the tab as is for a while before installing anything. See how it runs bare bones, etc... I will rely heavily on Wifi... Is the Wifi issue only when paired with keyboard (BT), or all the time? I was so psyched for this thing, now bummin...
The WiFi issue is all the time for me. The WiFi never drops completely out it just doesn't do very good like the signal is about half of my cell phone that's why I don't like it. I can hardly get a signal upstairs it drops to 1 bar. I haven't even tried it paired but I do see it paid to DTVBluetooth I don't even know what it is, Probably my Samsung 51" 3D? matter of fact I'm about to Google that, you just reminded me of that. I got a lot of electronics in my man cave so it hard to tell what DTVBluetooth is? I was going to check into this before but forgot.
3.2.1
well mine came with honeycomb and after reading many boos about upgraded problems i'm half sorry to say that i wish mine came with ics already on it, though if that were the case it'd have been a different model and might have had worse issues than a non working gps only.
i can happily sacrifice working gps for the ability to say everything else i've tested works very well.

slight thread hijack. My wife is going to new York (live in Edinburgh) in a month and was thinking of getting her to get me an ATP. Is there any reason not to have a US prime in the UK?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Not sure, but i would definitely look into the UK receiving an unlocked boot loader in the near future. I cant remember where I saw it on the net, but def. did. That's the word, and if it's true, do NOT buy one from N.Y. Wait for the unlocked boot L.
Newer Prime's should have better QC and less issues per unit produced but in the end based on my experiences here. Also note well that they're not going to change the entire tablet.
At the idea of a US Prime in the UK....my US model has English (United Kingdom) available in the Language & Input settings so I think it should work fine, as long as you get a UK dock instead of an American one. Not sure how it would impact firmware updates though but should be fine if you don't mind whatever has already come across for people with update issues.

I bought my tablet about two weeks ago at best buy and I'm happy to report no issues with my tablet. The build of it was good. No light bleeding unless you press down hard where the lights are on the side and I have not seen a WiFi issue yet.
Over all, I've been happy with my tablet and I didn't even know it had issues till I started reading the Transformer prime section for this tablet on XDA. +1 for the TP.
I got my Prime on 2/8 from Best Buy. I didn't take any OTA's until I rooted using Viper's tool. After rooting, I updated to ICS. I have had no issues with wifi. I get signal and it doesn't drop for me. Haven't tried GPS but I am not all that concerned about it. Just waiting for the bootloader to be unlocked and custom roms to come out!
I can't seem to find anyone who has these in stock via local B&M retailers nor online. Guess the price to be paid for being popular is inability to keep pace with demand.

If you order it, I would suggest you pick up a 2nd charger as well and save on shipping.
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/768723/ASUS-Power-Adapter-For-Eee-Pad/
I ordered mine from Office depot. Got it in about a week with standard shipping. However, I am heavily considering sending mine back. There are spongy spots on the edges of my tablet on all four sides.
Also, they pack HORRIBLY... I received my tablet in a manila envelope with only one side bubble wrapped. The Envelope was beaten to heck and back and my box was pretty badly beaten up as well. Not sure if that may have been the cause of the sponyness on the screen or if tons of other people are noticing that as well.
Otherwise, I have not had a problem with ANY other part of my tablet. Wifi is strong and the ICS update went perfectly.
I have ordered from Office Depot multiple times and I haven't had any problems. I didn't order my tablet (got it from Bestbuy) but I have ordered a bunch of accessories and such and they all came reasonably well packed.
Received my new Prime today 2/13. My second one. It's a C1, came with HC and as soon as I logged on to my network it wanted to update. I let it and it did one update and showed ICS 4.03 build 9.4.2.13. So apparently they've rolled all the updates into one for new devices. Then I got the small camera update and that was all. I'm letting it charge and am almost afraid to go into another room to test the wifi.
Thanks, but did check OD and they're showing out of stock.
Interesting - NewEgg had been listing it as "out of stock" but is now marked as discontinued or specifically "Deactivated. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked."
bought mine a month ago, came with HC, upgraded right out of the box to ICS and my wifi and blue tooth work great. GPS is spotty, but only tested once as i dont use it for that. I stream HD videos over wifi while using bluetooth headphones all the time and have not once had an issue.
Well, got mine today from BB. The order took a week. Rep said they had a shipment coming in anyway. When i picked it up this morning, i asked how many they had and she said, "None now", lol. Some shipment! Just mine... Anyway, right out of the box the firmware update started. I didn't run it yet, guess im a little nervous. So far the tablet is super sweet! Glad to report, no issues at all
Lfnsr, I didn't know we could root and still update OTA..? That's awesome man. what's the deal with that? I must have been left in the dark the past year. My only experience with Android in general is with my Droid X. Of course i had that thing tweaked, so i do have some exp. Any info you have pertaining to TP, rooting, updating etc... would be greatly appreciated.
Bgm307, How is everything since the ICS update? Honeycomb is running so good, i'm afraid to update....?
Thanks everyone for the info. I was really upset waiting for my TP after reading all the negativity here on XDA. I hope some of you reply about ICS. I'm itchin to run it, lol...

It's great actually. Like I said earlier, it went straight to ICS 4.03 build 9.4.2.13. No glitches, no crashes, no battery problems. Put it to sleep last night at 62% battery. This morning, 6 hours later I'm at 61%.
I just can't make myself walk into another room and test the wifi. Guess I have to do that this morning.
