I was thinking about Asus's statement that they would release the unlock tool in response to the Facebook, social network, etc. campaign. Has anyone else considered that Asus had no intention of releasing the tool but instead was just calming the flames as quickly as possible so that they could sell off the inventory they had and prevent those who found this to be a deal breaker from returning their tabs. They give a February release date for the tool knowing that the majority of the tabs would be sold in January thereby getting past any 30 day return issues. They then bank on the fact that most would wait out the month for the unlock tool. This is pure speculation but given their history of issues with the release, gps, and wifi, I'm starting to wonder.
I don't understand why they would do such a thing. If you unlock the bootloader on your device, you void the warranty.
Asus won't have to support your device anymore and you would be able to play with roms (or even brick your TF201) all you want.
It's a win-win situation IMO.
I doubt it. Lying to your customers seems like it would cause so much more negative press and make people not want to buy from you again. I know if they never released it, I personally wouldn't ever buy anything from Asus again as I don't want to support a company who lies to their customers.
Not only would they lose out on us buying future products, they would also lose out on us recommending their stuff to others. I personally have recommended the Prime to 2 other people and they bought it after that. They would be losing all that money too because if they did lie to us, then in the future I'd try hard to get people not to buy Asus products since I wouldn't want anyone to support a lying company.
But I believe in Asus and I think they'll release it soon.
I agree it wouldn't make good business sense, but their last two tablet releases have been absolute disasters. They made a device with what can only be described as a "signal shield" for a backing, throttled supply, released it before it was ready, and then decided to announce a newer version with the fix we should have had. They haven't done anything that's logical in the last 18 months. I'm just saying that I have my questions as to whether there is any intention of releasing an unlock tool anytime soon. I seriously hope I'm wrong.
The TF101 was a disaster? Huh... *Races to phone* Quick! Call every major technology news outlet and blog, tell them they were wrong! Ha, I'm just kidding, but yeah, I understand the Prime has faults. I am ordering one very very soon and I look forward to it. I am not concerned with the WiFi issue as I have played with one in my house and at school and so far I have not a single complaint. I have returned the test unit to my friend today and I can't wait for mine to arrive!
As was noted i the other thread today on WiFi and the Bootloader, releasing an unlocker is a legal nightmare. NOT because it voids warranties - that's a good thing for Asus, but because they have to "Present" it with the correct legalese. There are places where a warranty CANNOT BE VOIDED by things like user actions especially with an ASUS provided tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503267
Its just too complicated in today's litigation happy world to do obvious practical solutions without spending huge amounts of resources doing CYA... A shame, really.
Well I'm sure the story would be run on Web sites that they lied and would be pretty horrible press. I think it will come.
I think some are missing my point. We didn't set the February timeline, they did. If it's a legal nightmare then they shouldn't have said anything about a release time frame. I wasn't starting a "trash the prime" thread, I can live with its shortcomings if the bootloader is unlocked. And to the response about the original transformer, the release was a disaster and that's what I was talking about in the OP. All I know is that there's 11 days left in the month and there are people saying they know people on the inside that are disputing an unlock in February or possibly ever.

Yeah, February is just past half over, still plenty of time. I expect them to hold to their word on this personally and will not speculate or pass judgment until March 1
That would be the worst mistake they ever made in their lives. I would personally call chuck norris.

Well Motorola does it all the time and ppl still buy their junk. They promised a bootloader unlocker for the various Droid phones in 2011 and then... silence. Don't ever trust a "promise" from a corporation they mean nothing.
Asus has worked on the bootloader. A well known dev (Bumblebee) had posted on twitter a message congratulating Asus for taking the first steps in implementing the code necessary to unlock the bootloader. That code appears in the .13 firmware update.
Bumblebee is one of the devs that found rooting exploits for the TF and TFP so I trust what he says. He is often found in the #asus-transformer IRC channel.

Take it for what it's worth, just a thought. I guess it's crazy to think that Asus wouldn't release the tool in February.

It may not hit in Feb, but I'd attribute that more to legalities and not fraud.

Not trying to derail the thread, but I've been wondering... Does anyone know what devs have been working with the prime? I'm never on IRC and am not in 'the loop'. I guess I'm mainly wondering who to expect ROM's, themes and kernels from.

I submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) yesterday, BBB approved it and sent it to ASUS.
We should all complain to the BBB. That'll really show ASUS there's a problem and if they don't deal with it, the BBB will do them in nicely, no lube, just like ASUS did with us.
https://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/complaint/new/16870
File a complaint. It'll take 2 minutes of your life, but these 2 minutes will have a bigger result than the last 3 hours you spent in here looking for threads that would solve whichever of the 50 problems you may have with your Prime.
P.S. There's a debate on whether or not it's getting discontinued and I remember Asus stating that the tf700 will be the "big brother" to our tf201 as an upgraded higher end model. But I don't believe a single word they say any more.
Why? Because I also remember Asus reassuring us that the rumor of the Wifi being screwed up and release date getting pushed back was false and everything was fine.
I also remember Asus stating we're getting ICS on the 12th, but came out on the 9th. If you didn't realize, it was to appease tf201 owners because of the kick in the balls we got from the announcement of the tf700.
And since we've all had problems, Asus has not said A SINGLE word. What does that say about the company?

Agreed this is a mess I have never seen a product be such a crapshoot for what problem you might have. Anyone buying one of these has several things to worry about when buying one and who wants to have to feel extremely lucky to get what you paid for? not me
All processors are not created equal. The ics update bumped the processor speed from 1.4 Max to 1.6 max. Your unit probably has a processor that couldn't handle the bump. Yours is probably the 1 out of 100 cores that can't handle over clocking well. The lines on the screen sound like a processor issue. Best thing to do is to contact asus with the issue and ask for a replacement or Exchange from the store u bought it from.
I have had 0 issues with mine so I'll send in positive review since i have had a great experience.

Thank you very much for all of the support you have given to ASUS. Eee Pad Transformer Prime received excellent reviews and great demand when it launched in December 2011. Now, we are continuing to make the Transformer Prime available in the worldwide market, and doing our best to fulfill the incredible demand. ASUS strives to create the best products and provide the best service for our customers, and will be releasing an FOTA update for the Transformer Prime shortly. This update, version 8.8.3.33, will improve the focus of the camera, the fluidity of the touch experience, and the APK capabilities in Android Market.
ASUS has been working hard to make the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available on the Transformer Prime, and today, we have good news for you. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA worldwide update for the Transformer Prime will start from Jan 12th, 2012. Thank you for your patience and support through this process.
In addition, we would like to address your concerns related to GPS and bootloader on the Transformer Prime.
The ASUS Transformer Prime is made from a metallic unibody design, so the material may affect the performance of the GPS when receiving signals from satellites. Please note that this product is not a professional GPS device, and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings, and surrounding environments. Please understand there are limitations when using the GPS function. To avoid inconveniencing users who demand a powerful GPS device, we made the decision to remove it from our specification sheet and marketing communications. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers' requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.
Thank you for all the understanding and support for the ASUS Transformer Prime. Happy New Year!

where did u get that i have ics? why would they have a release for our primes, if some of them cant handle a standard update of a slight overclock?
my friend, if i pay 500 for a product, i want it to be equal to urs and everybody elses. not be worth $249, and urs is $449, and that guys is 500, and the other guys is 323.
i dont have ics, as my unit was not created equal, i have an unknown serial number, which they havent spoken a word about, leaving me to 0 ota updates and having to manually update myself. Maybe if they thought of uploading a file to their support site for ICS (not a task that's very complicated), id be less upset, but that still wouldn't solve some major issues.

These are issues from long ago. I'm talking about issues since early january. They haven't fixed **** and they've released a new prime to cover up for it. Don't talk if you're too thick can't read between the lines.
The CPU did not jump up to 1.6, it just shows it but does not run at it unless you use the tool created by viperboy. There is a few threads about this already.

1. The TF700 is the upmarket Prime unit. The TF201 is not discontinued and continues on.
2. The release date was always the week of 12/17 and was not pushed back. As for WiFi performance, we are investigating a firmware problem on several early boards right now.
3. ICS passed Google Certification earlier than expected so we pushed it live. First time I have heard a complaint about beating expectations.
4. We have been quite active on this forum and others. I know I have stated at least a few words on these subjects.

Devices weren't actually overclocked. I started that thread. It was actually confirmed the overclock speeds are dormant. If you get CPU spy (free) and look, you will see those higher overclocked are not actually used.
NOW IF YOU want a real overclock, go into Android developement section and check out ViperBoy latest creation, ViperConrol Mod. Which allows overclocking to 1.5 &1.6ghz speeds. That can be confirmed through CPU spy.

I am a firm believer in the BBB and use it myself to get company's to listen, so good for anyone that is having issues that can not get resolved, but please don't bring all of us into this as my Prime is perfect, I have had zero issues to date.
The BBB can't do anything to asus except ask them to resolve the issue with people that complain. They are a private company with no power over anyone.
edit: Asus doesn't even pay to be listed by the BBB.

I don't think you should be a "quiet voice" anymore. The more we know about it means there will be less rumors spreading for the most part. I would think since this was just released and it, for the time being, is your new flagship tablet, we would have more feedback from our real issues. If we see that you are being proactive, it would help some people sleep better at night lol. Being silent about everything is really not a foos thing with all of this drama unfolding. If the 700 model is an upgraded model, why dis they call it a "Prime", I would have created it another name like bumblebee or something. Naming it the samething seems to me like a replacement for this current one. So if you could be more proactive on the forums, FB, Twitter about everything, I think it would really help out a lot

Agreed. It'd also help if there was an update to how long we have to wait for a fix, or if there will be a fix, as some of us... if not all of us have a limited time to return this tablet if we are unhappy with it.
I don't want to return it because I like it's potential. But it's potential means nothing if it will not be fixed.

1. Then what is the reason for some stores "deactivating" it. (im not 100% saying its been discontinued, but i feel like it may be if theres going to be many problems on a good % of the models)
2. The release stayed the same, but there was a rumor about the wifi being bad and release date getting pushed back which Asus squashed saying the wifi is FINE and the release date will stay the same. As far as I can tell, the wifi is not FINE , and the release date was the 19th, but with a ton of backorders and delays (for more than a month in many cases).
3. It's not about ICS getting released early, it's just fishy it was released the same day the tf700 was announced. Seems like a cover-up. If you notice, a very good % of prime owners aren't too happy with a 3 weeks later announcement of something superior, when half the owners haven't even received their item yet.
4. I don't know how active you've been, but I haven't seen too much happen in over a week or two regarding fixes or updates (im not talking about firmware update 8.8.3.33 which solved a slight camera lag issue).
From my experience with newegg, a deactivated product could mean it's no longer available or they will no longer stock it or they have decided not to carry it. Amazon does the same thing when customer reviews are extemely low.
I imagine a high return rate would prompt this as well.
They released this tablet knowing it had issues, they rushed this tablet to the market and most of us feel cheated! Where is the "Persistent Perfection"? It is their company motto! We need to do this to get them to realize their mistakes!
We can all agree that this tablet is plagued with issues, Big or Small; Noticeable or Not; Software or Hardware; Customer Support or Communication.
Known issues we need to stand up for! Whether you experience them or not!:
BLUETOOTH INCOMPATIBLE WITH WIFI!
WEAK/SLOW WIFI!
GPS NON FUNCTIONING!
SCREEN BLEED!
MELTING/OVERHEATING CHARGERS
UNKNOWN SERIAL #'s!
RANDOM LOCKUPS/REBOOTS!
LESS THAN ACCEPTABLE SUPPORT!
HORRIBLE QUALITY CONTROL!
TERRIBLE RMA EXPERIENCES!
DEAD PIXELS!
DUST UNDER YOUR SCREEN!
ETC!
Then to top it all off they are now dedicating all their resources to multiple new tablets (7000t 3000t, 3g prime, Memo, and the Padphone), instead of doing what is right and fixing the first one!
THE GOAL IS TO ATTACK UNTIL THEY RELEASE SOME SORT OF REPLACEMENT/REFUND/EXCHANGE PROGRAM!
We need YOU to Tweet, Comment, and Sign the Petition

You guys obviously where not here for that! got a response from asus within 48 hours
In some way I don't think it was mostly their falt but ours since we were already rushing them. They did delay the sales because of the quality but demand was to big on our side. People wanted the device knowing it had problems and now most of them are fighting that they didn't pay much attention to the tablet. Even though we wanted it the way it was....... Shut up some of us are out of our return window! and are you not unhappy that they will be releasing versions with fixed GPS and other stuff!
The bootloader thing was completely different, this is way too far, and its worded like a spoiled teenage rant.
What really annoys me is that I see you "OP" genuinely trying to help bring these problems to light and get Asus to do the right thing and fix this debacle of a product. But instead I see trolls trollin your thread. Lame.
I applaud you for your outcry. This really needs Asus's FULL attention. Not just Gary and a few other employees. I have a feeling Asus is going to proceed with the release of the TF700t and leave the TF201 in the dust. If I was Asus I would carefully take a look at what went wrong with the TF201 and figure out how to fix it. Instead of releasing a new product. If these problems aren't fixed by Tuesday I am returning my Prime and dock and going with an iPad 3 or maybe a TF700t. Most likely an iPad 3. I really hope Asus comes through in the next 72 hours.
Try not to get upset with fellow TF201 owners. I guarantee their tone will change once the TF700t arrives with no problems. We are all on the same team.

No problem. I am here to help.
I know that I have only been a member of this thread for a short while. But I have enjoyed/found most people here to be informitive and entertaining.
Not only is Asus causing me to second guess my 5th TF201 & dock purchase by way of a full refund return, they are alienating me from participating in this wonderful forum full of members with similar interests. After my 5th Prime I'm gone from XDA/Asus.
I really hope it doesn't come down to this.
Ok guys, i feel ya. It sucks getting a faulty product especially over and over. No argument there.
But these issues are only present in a small percentage of Primes. And most of them only apply to artificial situations. For instance wifi: I have a a ~16 Mbps connection. What if my wifi drops to 8 Mbps for some seconds while watching youtube? I wont even notice. So for 95% of Prime users those wifi "issues" dont exist. Me included even though i get pretty steady results.
Minor screen bleed is present on almost all IPS panels even your precious ipads (you should get one, they are perfect devices, will never have problems and last 100 years - sry irony took over ). And again, the only place you notice screen bleed is on startup screen or if your in complete darkness looking at a black page and turning IPS+ on.
So the amount of people that have gone through several primes is very very small. Even here on XDA most people dont experience these issues in a way that the device becomes less fun or even unusable.
By logic the amount of people that will sign this petition and send some spam mail will never be enough to actually achieve something. Sorry man
The bootloader thing was something completely different. Companies locking up bootloaders is something that affects every freakin Android user. So i'm pretty sure there were many people that didnt even plan on buying a prime signing that petition. The same way i have signed the HTC petition and will sign every single one about locking bootloaders of Android devices. Plus, i'm almost certain ASUS already planned it when the petition started.
Again it sucks buying and waiting for such a product and then having a faulty device. Happened to everyone once... But all you can do is, return it and hope for getting a working replacement. Buying another product, or waiting for the next Transformer model from ASUS.
And btw when i read TF700T will have no issues, all i can say is lol. Its like saying the world will end in 2012. Wait... Maybe the two things are linked in some higher plan we dont understand yet!!!??? I think i'm on to something here...

I agree. Most of the TF201 returns I heard about from customer service at my local Bestbuy were transactions that resulted in a full refund not exchange. Most people would return and move on to iPad 3, TF700t etc......
Do you really believe that after this mess of a release Asus is gonna release another defective product? I don't think so. I'm sure Asus's legal department/engineering is working together to provide a "Asus Inspiring Innovation Persistent Perfection" product with the release of the TF700t.
While I'm not quite as zealous as the OP, I do feel that ASUS needs to address the issues listed above. They undoubtedly knew there were pretty severe engineering issues with the prime before release if not, then quite soon thereafter. The weak wifi and nonexistent GPS are unquestionable. The other QA problems are more or less expected

Thought I might as well open a new thread 'cause everybody should have access to the good news easily:
Gary Key stated in his unofficial thread that spare parts are shipped to the service centers around the world:
The spare parts have arrived at service center in Switzerland. In my case it is a new mobo. The technician just called back and told me he would repair and test the tablet this afternoon.
Still missing mine since 120207
You might give me a thanks if this info makes you happy!
Update 120315:
To me it seems the mobo is the fix we all have been waiting for. It got replaced with my Prime which failed the final test at the repaircenter. My wifi-thing is wrecked, so they ordered a new one. This means: they got my device five weeks ago and they knew already from Asus there would be a new mobo released in the future so they assumed my trashy wifi (bad receiption, bluetoothlag and finaly unable to connect to my home router) was related to the faulty mobo design. Be sure it is, unfortunately my wifi is crap as well. I guess they found out after they'd assembled and reassenbled the tablet - lol -
The service center is contacting ASUS now after I complained mildly for being pushed aside during more than a month.
Well, that's why I hate frigging computers they all suck!!!!
Hopefully I can keep you updated otherwise I just got sick of it and my androidexperiment will have died.
Nokia N9 Meego ist the best, no frigging buttons just plain swipe. but this is another sad story ...
Zcech Rep. service centre? Or where?
What was the issue you RMAed it for?
I RMA'd mine to Czech, sent it friday morning:
Picked up Friday morning
Arrived in Manchester Friday evening
Arrived in Germany on the Sat Morning
Left Germany 3am this morning (Monday)
Arrived in Austria at 6am
Arrived in Czech at 8am
Return to shipper at 9:46am
Does this literally mean, they got mine, and have either:
1. just sent it straight back to me or
2. just sent me a brand new one and will deal with my old one later on
Any ideas?
@kevinm2k
Depends where you getting that tracking info, if its from couriers site it looks like it didn't get to service centre and for some reason being returned to sender
I went through the official return system with UPS, the tracking is from UPS here:
http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/...ns=yes&loc=en_GB&tracknum=1Z7634WR9390800355#
If I get the same one back unfixed then I won't be giving them another chance to RMA it and will demand a full refund - so hopefully that isn't the case!
So just wondering since I've sent Gary 3 different pm's weeks apart with no response what so ever... if our bootloaders are unlocked do we still get the fix? Or are we just screwed?

When you unlocked your bootloader, you agreed to invalidate your warranty and to no longer receive any support from ASUS. I don't quite understand why you are asking this question.

You agreed to Asus not working on your Prime. It was a permanent decision as stated in the agreement you made with them by unlocking the bootloader.

This is exactly why I haven't unlocked yet. If there's new components or motherboards to be swapped out, I'd rather get that done first. Then have my fun unlocking and flashing roms. But it gives me time to let the roms mature more and build confidence in decision of unlocking and the consequences involved. I'm in no rush really. Stock rom working great for me. Plus with root(which I can easily remove if I want) and overclocking @ 1.6Ghz, I'm enjoying the very fast n slick stock experience.

Thank you, I don't understand why people who read the terms, and still decided to go ahead and unlock the device anyway, then want start a thread/post complaining that it's not fair. This is one of the reasons why Asus didnt want to unlock the bootloader to begin with, because no matter how you explain it to people, they still don't seem to be able to comprehend. Gary probably wont respond, because it was clearly stated that you VOID ALL updates/help
First off no one cried it wasn't fair. I understand the difference between not providing additional support and not fixing a pre existing well known initial design flaw. Do you guys?
Edit: just thought I would add, the first two messages sent to Gary were BEFORE I unlocked.

I agree you wasn't crying about it. I'd still give it a shot to see if they fix device. Hopefully they would show discretion and make it on a case by case decision on whether to fix or not. Just like places like best buy n Gamestop said they wouldn't take returns past due date, alot have been doing so. MAYBE ASUS will let some people slide also.
But we do have a mini epidemic of people, not you, blindly unlocking device(thinking its part of rooting..lol) and not realizing consequences involved. Like no more OTA updates and warranty voided.

Everywhere dealing with the unlocker including itself says what it does and what it's for. Amazes me people just jump in like that.
Once we start seeing results I may send mine in. Every day that goes by it gets harder not to go on and install my own antenna lol

I am pretty sure that "returned to shipper" shows up in this case because the UPS label was created by Asus, so UPS "thinks" it was returned to the shipper.
It shows that it was signed for, so they do have it.

Yeah I hear ya. Seems like you can't say anything in these forums without getting flammed one way or another. I do completely understand that by unlocking my bootloader that I have no more support from Asus. That's why I've done research on how to flash and also why I have an account here so if I really screw something up I can ask someone much smarter than myself how to fix it =)
That is also why I bought a square trade accidental warranty so if I burn my cpu by flashing some of the awesome custom overclocked kernels, ill be covered.
I do however have the expectation that my wifi works to at least a similar level of my cell phone. I am not naive and I don't expect it to go toe to toe with my laptop but definitely similar range and throughput of my other mobile devices.
If Asus is making actual hardware changes because of a manufacture defect, I expect to get those very same changes.

how long after purchase can you get squaretrade for prime? but yeah its only fair if it was a manufacturing defect. I would think Asus should let unlocked people slide on that. maybe Gary can clear that up. not sure he will though because it would have to be worded correctly so not to be improperly used against Asus since alot of legal stuff around that. its a fair question to ask though. if you haven't already, you should ask in his new thread. you could could send another pm but I know his pm box is swamped with pm's.
at least with squaretrade you could always find a reason to send it in and get a replacement unit. which will either come with new components or be eligible for warranty since its not unlocked.
we have to remember this though. Gary did state that the new component pieces was only going to be implemented on a device by device basis. so basically only if their testing shows it to be faulty, will that device qualify for new component piece. its not like every device sent in will get it. as not all devices will qualify if they already meet Asus factory spec from new testing.
plus we not sure of what this "Great Prime News" coming up is.
I believe 90 days after purchase if bought retail. Don't quote me though as this is my first one. Bought mine with the amazon deal, I figured I've dropped it twice before and got away with just minor scratches but one of these times it will be broken gorilla glass lol.

Hey, my apologies if I came off rude benefit14snake, your question was indeed a valid one. It's just that I've seen so many post from people complaining about not being able to update after unlocking their tablets. Asus should fix ALL devices that have weak wifi, or they will end up losing customers in the long run.

So I have a 64gb Prime, 1, almost 2 months with me after buying it from "AMAZON." this is a fraud product. it is not "primed to perfection" like the prime's slogan states. i have expeirenced the faulty wifi, and gps just like the others and is bothering me alot. i really want to exchange it for an infinity, or at least a newer prime w/o connection defect. has anyone tried this and successfully exchanged it for a infinity/fixed prime? we should also make a petition about this on asus for making a defective product to us consumers....
I too bought my prime 32gb from amazon, and would like to hear if we could exchange it for the Infinity

No candy coating. Its not going to happen. Best thing you can do is send it in for RMA. If you plead your case enough and sound convincing enough, there's a minute chance of refund. They not even really doing refunds anymore but you won't know unless you ask or try. But don't get your hopes up on them exchanging prime for an infinity pad. Its not going to happen. Not to sound negative but just being realistic. I've already looked into this. This came from Gary and Tien. No exchanges for infinity pad happening. If you experiencing problems with your device, best solution is to RMA it. Depending on what the issue is, good chance it will come back fixed. even for wifi issues, there have been sligght improvements made from rma. On the flipside, some have no noticeable improvements also coming back from rma. It all depends on how the performance of it falls into thier baseline standard or whatever. They do havea new method of reworking the antennae sttenuation to improve its reception.
Just call them and see whwt they say. A petition wont really do any good, IMO. We have seversl other similar petitions that seemed to fail or not produce any results.
Good luck!
Actually, Never say Never. They could change something in the near future. But at present time, what I previously said was the response on exchange from them. Aside from possible wireless issues, I still believe JB update will bring about a huge improvement in prime performance. JB will include new rom, newer updated kernel, newer up to date drivers, more optimizations.
Sound like interesting on the up coming JB for the Prime. I hope that it is worth to wait.

It is probably based on his experience with JB on the Nexus 7 and the fact that Asus has publicly stated the TF201 is scheduled to get JB at some point in the future.
The current Asus policy is no refunds or exchanges but Asus could always have a change of heart. The Infinity is just now hitting the stores. If demand is weak and Asus is left with a lot of product sitting in their warehouse they may be more open to some kind of upgrade program for Prime owners.
I hope there is a change of heart. I bought mine from newegg. Really wish BB had one in stock when i was looking to purchase, otherwise this thing would have been taken in for exchange like all the other lucky members have been able to do.

I seriously hope I don't have to go this route... my prime is getting back from RMA sometime this week. If they couldn't fix the problems I mentioned, (specifically WiFi and Bluetooth) I have enough faith that they will have someone reasonable enough I can talk to who can get me an infinity replacement. Considering the infinity is being sold side-by-side at the same price as the prime, I don't see why they would argue against that. The infinity model simply doesn't have the defects the prime has which are covered by their warranty.

My prime has just entered RMA for a cracked screen. I'm kind of hopeful that there might be some QA type improvements so GPS might work better - and that's really all I need (assuming I/O can be improved enough with unlocking - was holding out for an RMA reason before i unlocked, but was hoping it would be something minor!).
If the repair is not free, it'll be small claims court for me too.

I now find asus as idiots, releasing a defective model. even when they know millions of primes are experiencing the problem, they still do not do anything but repair nothning. a simple recall and change for a really fixed version or the infinity that really fixed the networking problems should be implemented. wahahha
A recall is not necessary if only a small percentage of devices have bad problems - they need to be realistic about replacing genuine bad units though.

Could it make sense to head to a collective lament, incl. international customers? Even if we wont get it through, it might forces ASUS to move and avoid negative press.
Reading these latest posts are like experiencing deja vu from months ago. They are filled with newer users filled with hope that ASUS will fix the issues promptly via RMA and surely have people ready at the phone to assist with issues.
My greatest fear for you all, since this is a development forum afterall, is that the rma process doesnt turn off your ability to unlock your device, as it has for so many, once you get your device back and you eventually decide to unlock to actually partake of the "development" and use roms that actually fix many of the issues.

Why would we, or should we, has to unlock? Possibly voiding any ASUS warranty for a device we expected to be 100% out of the box. And paid over $650US for.
Unlocking is a bandaid that ASUS should supply.
The guys who bought from Best Buy are incredibly lucky and yes I am jealous, lol
Getting an exchange from my point of sale (Dixons) is out of the question
If it wasn't for the Asus presence on this forum stating that the teething problems were being worked on and would be fixed, I would have returned the tablet shortly after receiving it.
I'm very disappointed that they claimed the Prime was *not* being EOL'd and now look at where we are.
Personally I feel like Asus has just abandoned this tablet and the loyal customers that bought it.
(I've lost count of the Asus motherboards, soundcards, routers etc. I've purchased over the years...)
RMA'ing is just beyond a joke, and support is next to useless.
I would love to see Asus do the right thing and offer an exchange program for remaining Prime owners, but I cannot see that happening
Heck, I would even pay £££ to exchange and be rid of this tablet and it's sluggishness, under performing WiFi/BT and the plethora of other problems.
Oh, and I do not see the GPS dongle as a true solution to the non functioning GPS that was advertised as I cannot use it with the dock attached (which peeps in the UK were forced to purchase with the Prime as there were no tablets being sold without the dock.) or even a power cable.
Sorry for the rant, but after living with the problems of this tablet, and then seeing people able to return in exchange for a fixed version, It kinda pisses me off and I think that everyone should be treated fairly and be able to use the same/similar service no matter where you are or what store you purchased from.
Don't get me wrong though, I am very happy for those who managed to get an exchange, I am just annoyed that others like myself cannot do the same thing.
And before anyone suggests unlocking and flashing custom ROMs. Why should I let Asus off the hook and void my warranty?
Asus should be fixing the problems or replacing the hardware with something fit for purpose.
I already sent the letter to ASUS support. I hope to hear something back.
Dear Asus,
I have owned many consumer electronic devices and I must say, the TF201 is hands down the WORST piece of gadget I have ever owned. Nothing about it works and the worst part is, you are reluctant to help us to make it work.
For 10 months, we, the users, have been beta testing the TF201 so that you can develop better, improved products like the 700. We paid over 500 dollars to test products for you and receive no support. We have been through numerous ANR on simple tasks such as web browsing or playing a 2D game. Seriously? Is this what we paid 500 dollars for? Not only that, every subsequent firmware update did nothing to improve the product. Yet asus hasn't done much to help the situation. You provide the users with a half baked bootloader unlock tool that doesn't work for 50% of the users (check XDA). When asked to fix the bootloader unlock tool, ASUS says they dont support unlocking the device and can't do anything about it. Asus requested users to RMA their device to fix the bootloaded issue yet when the users get it back, there had been no change. No issues were addressed. Now we are stuck with a garbage firmware from ASUS that can’t even do the simplest things right and users can't even put a custom ROM to help make our experience better.
Two days ago, you released an OTA for jellybean which failed to update for about half the existing owners. Now when we check for the update, the tablet can't find it anymore and we are stuck with the same crappy 4.0.3 firmware. The devs are going above and beyond to modify the update file so it can work for everyone (check XDA) since asus is too lazy to upload the firmware on their support/download page. I got a question for you ASUS, can you do ANYTHING right? How much do you have to suck to screw up an OTA? I have used many android products from many vendors and NONE of them had nearly as many issues as the TF201. In the dev community it is called the bastard child. Many owners simply sold it at a loss or were successful at trading it at bestbuy for something else since Asus would not support them. You have the courage to charge customer $500+ for such a garbage device yet you provide this level of support? I understand problems happen and users are willing to cope with issues. But the least you could do is support your product by providing us with a functioning bootloader unlocker so the users that are having problems with the garbage firmware can at least use a custom firmware to make it useable again. We paid for this device and we expect some level of functionality such as browsing the web for the money we paid. At the very least, you can upload the new firmware on the support page so users who are having issues downloading the firmware (because some engineers can’t even make a functioning OTA) can at least manually upgrade to 4.1.
Overall, I must say, this tablet has done nothing more than frustrating me. Every time I go to use it, something goes wrong. I hope someone reads this email and feels guilty for charging upwards of $500 to deliver such subpar device to its consumers. At the very least, check out the XDA forum for TF201 and see how much time is being spent by users to simply get a straightforward OTA. Finally, if asus can’t deliver remotely what they promised, they should leave the tablet game for companies that know how to build a decent firmware or OTA.
Sincerely,
A disappointed customer
Given their track record, they will probably ignore it. I dont expect to hear anything back.
I have the same feelings as you, but post this on their facebook page or something if you want it to make some kind of impact. Here on XDA there are what, like 2 Asus marketing employees who occasionally come by?
Your opinion
I respect your right to have an opinion. I actually only come to this developers website to read productive opinions. Your opinion has no purpose here other than to fan the flames of your ire. It's useless for productive people and the moderators should delete your thread.

I already posted on their FB page. But they deleted it. So I emailed them directly. I am looking for Jony shi's email address so I can email him personally. I am pretty sure he has no clue how bad the team F'ed it up
I thought most people who had issues with the OTA had rooted their tablet and messed with it somehow. To me it seems like asus has made sure the update works for everyone who hasn't done anything to their prime and that it doesn't brick anyones tablet, and it seems many people are able to get their tablet back into a state such that they can install the update. I really don't think we could expect them to do much more.
Also I don't get why the download problems where so terrible, it's still only been two days since the first release and I think most people are able to get the update pretty quickly now.
And also note that not only did they get us jellybean quicker than most other devices, but they also fixed one of the biggest issues with the prime (ANR). The only thing I really am disappointed over is the lack of status updates leading up to the release.

I respect your right to have an opinion. I actually only come to this developers website to read productive opinions. Your opinion has no purpose here other than to fan the flames of your ire. It's useless for productive people and the moderators should delete your thread.

This kind of attitude of being quiet and trying to figure things out by ourselves is why ASUS can get away with it. No one brings it up. TF201 is probably the worst tablet out their for android in its price range and it has been 10 months and there have been no improvements. I am not whining, I am just stating something that is unfair. No matter how much the devs try, they can't unlock the prime unless ASUS does something. And most of us dont have hours to fiddle with something like OTA that should just work. So we SHOULD bring up the issue. I think more people should contact ASUS directly until something is done because clearly we can't solve the problem.
We deserve something better than a paperweight for $500.

I am stock unrooted. My download failed and my tablet can't find it anymore. And ASSUS is too busy watching porn and dont have the time to upload the firmware to their website.

Although I agree with the sentiment (I too have a prime) i'm seriously fed up of coming on this forum and seeing people complain.
there are enough complaint threads already.
I am fortunate enough to have been able to unlock my device, but that in itself contains massive risks (I almost bricked mine a couple of weeks ago)
when trying to look for a solution to my partial brick, all I could find were complaint threads. even semi useful threads were full of complaints. this made the task very frustrating.
By all means complain to Asus... but PLEASE enough with these threads and all of the thread jacking that is going on.. I want rid of my prime not because of performance, but because I can't read any thread in any section of the Prime forum without having to hear the same people complaining again and again.
I'm sorry if this seems confrontational, but I have seriously had enough of it!!
P.S. OP, please change the subject of this post to something more relevant like "My complaint letter to Asus ( Yet another complaint thread)"

My point is that this post here is not that thing you claim to want. Nobody here works for asus and nobody here is looking for the opinion of the unhappy user. Its been done to death and is not an original thought.
People dont come to this site (or shouldnt) hoping the manufacturer is here to fix the problems they have.
I honestly don't know what you're trying to achieve here. First of all, this is what, the 14th thousand complaint thread OF THE DAY? We get it, you hate your device. Now be a big boy and sell the damn thing if you're so fed up with it. Second of all, if you want Asus to take your letter seriously, or read it without groaning like I did, don't use phrases like "how much do you have to suck" or "crappy, garbage firmware". If you expect Asus to respond professionally, I'd start by not sounding like a 12 year old boy that had his toy broken.
Jellybean's been out 2 days. TWO WHOPPING DAYS. If you can't access the update now I'd suggest you wait a week or two, because evidently you're not the only Prime user in the world. There are plenty of people who are also attempting to update their device, and mind I point out that many have gotten the new firmware and are quite happy with the result. There's no need to throw a fit simply because you weren't among the firsts in line.
Finally, don't complain about not being able to put custom ROMs on your device. That's not Asus' problem. We all know that unlocking the bootloader and flashing custom ROMs void the warranty. No one forced you to do it, and if you did it and borked your device, Asus has no obligation to fix it for you. I fully understand the risks of tampering with the firmware, and if tomorrow I flashed something new and bricked my Prime, I wouldn't go running to Asus and demand an answer.
I have my fair share of problems with the Prime, trust me. But this forum has brought whining to a whole new level.
sorry fellas i have to agree with op. and im not hatin on asus. i have a nexus seven and two high end asus laptops (though the keyboards are absolute ****) which i love. the prime is the biggest piece of **** ever sold to the american public. i mean really? you bottleneck the device by having horribly slow storage? and a device that is only wifi with **** wifi?
i took mine back to best buy today and recieved a 538 dollar credit. so it was made right by best buy. praise baby jesus that POS is gone and i didnt take a loss.
I wish i could get my money back for this POS from gamestop or asus. I shouldnt have to sell it for a loss because of asuses broken promises and lack of competence.

I don't get it. While I do understand that Prime XDA forum is nothing but complaints (I wonder why...), you also have an option to not read any of them. But you continue to reply to majority of them... mock the individual... and say "blah blah blah"... just as useless as many other complaint threads as you put it.
And really?? Gary Key doesn't work for Asus? Asus_Tien doesn't work for Asus??
Same for my.deleate mesage and user....

I actually do agree with whycali... we have too many thread complaining about the device... what is the point? does the number of threads make a difference to Asus?... if you have problems with the device, that's really bad luck, but use an existing thread instead of creating a new one... I rarely read these thread of complaints, but it's becoming really hard to find useful threads...

I agree... I almost didn't buy my prime because of all the negative things that have been said here. Thankfully I decided to make up my own mind and im glad i did. Best thing i have bought myself in awhile.
Thankfully im reporting non of the issue's that everyone else has been. maybe im Lucky or people are just blowing things out of proportion. Ive been using ASUS products for years and Ive never had problems with any of their products.... can't believe that their build quality has went down that much since the last computer i built which is still running fine today.

Yes, I love this device... I've had no problems with anything so far... and it's the best device I've purchased...
I don't think their build quality has really gone down... cuz like you I've been using Asus products for a while...maybe it's just one of those devices.... something that every company faces...

Well as long as mine works perfectly it doesn't matter what anybody says.... just sad that i come on here to discuss what people are doing with their tabs and what cool things are being done and all i see is negativity.
out of every forum here on xda ive looked at this one for the prime seems to be the worst.
I get that the prime is not perfect and has its flaws, but what i really don't get is why people are upset about OTA problem^^
OTA's are supposed to work for stock devices, if you do stuff like rooting and modding you should be aware that OTAs might not work anymore. Yes even rooting and installing busybox will modify your system and may cause OTA problems.
I personally have no problems with my prime. Happy user since last January. And now it has jellay bean! <3 loving it so far

I'm personally fed up with people being fed up at seeing so many complaint threads. Be mad at Asus for selling us a crappy product and not supporting it. This product deserves to have an XDA thread chock full of complaint threads to remind people who see them what a garbage company Asus is.
