Have I bricked it? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I think I messed up trying to root my device.
Now I only have a flashing logo and I don't have the proper files anymore to re-install my firmware.
I still can get into recovery, so I just need the correct kernel and AOS files.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

Download the stock .aos file from the archos site, and select "Update Firmware". Plug into your PC and copy the .aos file to that drive that appears. Select OK on the device. Wait and then select reboot. Now you can attempt root again, making sure that the file is called the correct name, and you are not following my method on a 250gb version or the 250gb root on a flash version

Thanks, I did that, but I'm getting error 206, so the firmware does not install.
I think it has to do with the proper kernel version I'm using, that's why I asked also for those files.

You sure you're on G9 and downloaded G9 firmware?
Pretty sure the needed kernel is in the aos file
Sent from my ARCHOS 80G9 using Tapatalk

Well, on my console it is printed: ARCOS 10i G9
And from the archos website I chose the gen9 edition,
Are you sure I only have to install the aos file and the kernel is part of it?

Well, solved it by accident I think.
I did a full erase of all partitions and tried to re-install the firmware and guess what - it worked
Oh man, am I a happy fellow again
Now back to the rooting business...

good job

My G9 died! :(

Hi,
I have been updated my G9 device firmware to 4.05. During update everything was ok. After update, a message appears that say "Starting applications". After 15 minutes nothing happened and mistakenly I have restarted my device. After restarting, archos welcome screen appear but nothing occur!
Also I try to fix it by recovery options like:
1- Repair System>Check Disk : No problem found!
2- Upgrade firmware: Downgrade firmware show me error 221 and trying to install 4.05 is successful but after installation my problem exist yet!
3- Format Disk> Reformat Device...: Even I try to reformat it but after reformat and updating firmware, my problem exist.
I'm so upset! Please help me to fix this problem...

That means that the fw is corrup or that tne filename is wrong, all you have to do is re-download the firmware and make shure that the filename is correct (without a "2" or any other number at the end that indicates it was the second firmware file in the donload folder)... so reformat your device and retry.
Hope I helped,
Tom

Try what i told you to do... that error means there is a prblem with the update file, so either it's corrupt or the file name is wrong
HI !
Please ..can you try also ? - press 10 sec. on power ( until the green light closed).... now .. while pres volume down ...press power ( and don't release ) until you will entry in recovery (SDE) ! Now try to do Format System-> Reformat Device-> I Understand -> OK! and wait a while until a new driver appear - > now copy Stock Archos ICS 4.0.5 .aos file into it and flash ! I hope will work this method ! Good luck.
Now I'm going to download new firmware from: update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_3.2.80-2/firmware_archos_it4.aos

Which tools do you use for download? I had the same error 221 and then I read somewhere (maybe in this forum) that Mozilla actually recognizes the archive format, unpacks the file for virus check (or whatever else), and then re-packs it. But the original file is digitally sighed by Archos, and the repacked one is not. That is why the updater rejects it. Since that, I did a couple of successful upgrades using the most basic tool, wget, to download the file to my PC first. Try this.
The following seems to be the result of the bad update script. Which version did you start from? Not too old? It looks like the script deleted the existing software first, then checked the new file, and rejected it - and what to do next?
ps. If someone definitely knows that the above reasoning about download is wrong, please let us know this - not to spread this rumour any longer.
use
RECOVEY (ON OFF/ VOL -),
RESET ANDROID via REPAIR SYSTEM and FORMAT SYSTEM.
Install the firmware

Ok, I had time to experiment todaya nd now I do know definitely that I was wrong - at least, for the current version. Downloaded the file a few times by both Mozilla and wget, calculated the checksums - it is identical and successfully recognized by the updater. So the above error is nothing but a spontaneous download error, once it occures - just reload the file. On the other hand, wget is very resilent to transmission errors, so file corruption is less likely while using it.

[Q] Archos 80G9 looping on boot during rooting

I managed to get my PC to recognize my device & began rooting my Archos 80G9 as per instructions provided. Everything was going fine until I completed the temp rooting stage. At the last 'adb reboot' the device began looping at the bootup stage & my PC no longer recognizes it as an Archos. Now in device manager it says it is a portable drive E: & my android section has gone from the list. In windows explorer it says it is a removable drive, if you try to open it, it says insert disk. Also there was no Remove android Kernel in my Developer menu. I'm desperate for help here as all I have now is a tablet which just reboots. Please can someone help me.

because it opens a window when you select Flash kernel but this area is not big enough to copy the archos.ext4.update file which has left me with a device which now hangs on the Archos logo.

[Q] Still in a boot loop. Am I the 1%? g9101 hdd

Hello. I'm annoyed
I rooted to get rid of problems... So
I followed these tasks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653566 and the root worked for a few days - then moved into a boot loop.... how/why... I don't know.
Ive tried many of the different .aos files to find a correct one for my 101g9 250gb, but I still can't get it out of the loop.
This is where I've been getting the different Aos files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468925
I get 2 different results 1)error 207 (update failed) or 2) boot loop.
One stange thing did happen once - It's managed to reload the android installer, I selected a language, then it crashed again. Of course I tried the same thing again, but it never got past the boot loop again.
After 2 weeks of trying, I'd like some help.
I always have it plugged in. It's not the battery. It's the HDD model and I don't know exactly which version came with the device. I think 4.0.25.. not 100% sure
Please help
I don't have the HDD model so don't know what to tell you exactly..
What I would do on my flash model is boot into recovery. completely reformat the system and use recovery to update the firmware with an Archos firmware (aos file) onto it.
Reformating it from recovery would bring the filesystem back to stock so it should fix anything wierd any of the other roms might have done. So dropping an Archos firmware on it should in theory fix it. Though you WILL lose your root and anything else you have on the drive.

Thanks for your help, but no luck- that didn't work. I'm sure I lost all my data a long time ago with the amount of reformats I've done. What I'm curious about is, can the tablet actually become a brick just by using these rooted firmwares? I'm assuming that it's fine and that I just have to 'crack to code' to installing the right firmware in the right order.....
I'm still curious if anyone else has had this problem..
Hmm.. Try going back into recovery and try the Reset Android option?
Maybe do Reset Android. Reformat Device. Upgrade Firmware?
The device boots.. so it has to be something causing it.. Have you tried to see if you can use ADB to get into the device and look at any log entries?

ADB? ok, I didn't know what it was. But it's now installed and I followed a random setup on youtube, but when I type ADB devices, nothing comes up.
So now I have it installed, but I so far I can't get win7 to detect the tablet in device manager
Regarless, can the ADB detect problems on the tablet when the archos is only connected waiting for the AOS file (A101H-REC - 299MB)?
Btw, you've already got me waaaaay over my head on this stuff - but still, I'm learning.

Let me join the conversation
Adb works only is it is enabled in developer settings.
What kind of system do you have in use?
In your case i would probably try exporting hdd in sde. This allows you to browse files inside your hdd in linux operating system through usb.
If it is empty, i would export data partition through sde. This allows you to see if there are any files in your data partition.
You said that the device bootloops, yes? That means that the reformat device is not working. It would remove the system, so you shouldnt even see the bootanimation.

Hi, thanks - any advice is welcome. I only have windows7 - Sorry.
As for the bootloop, yes that's the status. I hadn't even considered that the reformatting process wasn't actaully working [but it is] - I reformatted the device and didn't install an AOS. now every restart brings me straight into the Recovery menu [which should happen i assume].
So, with a "clean" but stubborn device, what would you advise to try to isolate the problem? (rather than me simply blindly trying random things)
Thanks

So reformat works. Have you tried to flash the official 4.0.28(http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4.0.28/firmware_archos_it4.aos)?
After searching about your error 207, I found this:http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=56037
Code 207 is issued by aosparser when the .aos upgrade file doesn't
pass the signature check.
...
There's more bad news... If the genuine original .aos files are also
giving the same error it means the signing keystore may also have been
damaged.

So, do you know if I can access/use ADB on a win7 pc when the archos doesn't have an aos on it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104491&highlight=wlan
You could try this. it's written that it doesn't work on hdd model. but it can't get much worse it think. If I understand things correctly, you don't need to have installed any aos before installing this rom. with other roms you get a archos.ext4.update so you need a running system. yust give it a try but don't blame me if your tablet's completely dead afterwards. i don't know what will happen.
Or you could just follow the steps 1-7 (from link above!) to get cwm, maybe that helps for sth, but i don't know.
sry, but my writing style is bad. and do it on your own risk, I'm not that expirienced but that's what I would do...
Good luck

The error message is clear: use Firmware Upgrade option on SP Flash Tool. For that, you have to load all partitions and that should not be a problem taking into consideration that I've already shared the link to the full package.

Isnt there a way to flash this in fastboot? I tired but it wont let me but was wondering if it was because the bootloader is locked?

Just delete checksums.ini file and proceed with flashing.
So just so I am clear on what I need to do.
Download stock firware from link you provided
Extract image to drive
Replace stock recovery.img with CWM version
Replace scatter file with version from CWM download?
Delete checsum.ini from MTK tools folder
Load CWM scatter file
Check DA/DL box in SP tool
Click Firmware upgrade button
If this is correct then it doesnt work. Or perhaps I am leaving out a step. Thanks for your help.

Just out of curiosity, why are you quoting my posts? Is it really necessary?
Anyway, the process you mentioned is correct, but perhaps you're using an old version of SP Flash Tool. Note that the scatter file that goes along with CWM recovery is the original, taken from the stock firmware package.
I have the latest SP flash tool. Does not work. Thanks for the help anyway.
The latest? Which version is it?
Thank you sir for all of your help. I did get it working finally. If you don't mind me asking, how did you compile the cwm? Using the online builder? Any chance you could compile a US version ?
Hey, would you mind giving me a little guidance on how to build the US version of this CWM recovery? It would be greatly appreciated... you have no idea...
I have compiled it from sources, not using the builder as it is not totally compatible with MTK devices. Anyway, what do you mean with "US version"?
Also, do you mind saying how you get it working? It may be useful for others. Let me know the SP Flash Tool version you've used.
I'll post the sp version. What I mean by US is that I had received a copy of the US firmware (a US version of the CN you posted) but when I tried to use the CWM you compiled with it, it did not work. I am in the US so running a China firmware is not optimal, but is OK I just had to side load Google apps and change the language.
It seems you forgot to tell which version you've used. Also, if you know where to find the US firmware please let me know.
US firmware
Hi All, any news on US firmware ?
Hi everyone.
I have a 4gb version without 3g.
Bought it in China. Tried to use russian ROM but it was corrupted, so now I need some ROM to make tablet work again.
I tried ROM from this thread, but SP flash tool showed a mistake that it's not enough memory. So, now my tablet is a brick. Where can I find another firmware?
I think that this is want you want / need: S6000_A422_001_005_130524_CN4_WiFi.

Bricked ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 ‏(Z580CA)‏..PLEASE HELP!!! Anyone

I've tried to re-install the zip file again using the IntelAndroid-FBRL-07-24-2015, to which now doesn't work nor does ADB Fastboot, it recognizes the device.. but now all commands pretty much fail... I don't know what else to do with this.
I did however installed the Asus Flash Recovery Program, I just cannot for the life of me find what file to use to re-flash this. Anyone please ANY SUGGESTIONS

http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/12/download-asus-flashtool-10014-for-windows.html
I just selected Z580CA and flashed the raw file. It wouldn't let me flash any ZIP, so I had so search for the correct image.
I zipped the RAW file ...
Working as expected and debricked my asus
Cool & Thanks !
Z580C tablet is bricked, it happened on update, I think battery was too low. Screen is black all the time, under windows device manager it connects as Intel Soc/ Moorefield Device (Intel platform Flash Tool Lite is installed and this tool is seeing that device is connected and it reboots (connects/reconnects) every few minutes), tablet does not connect as Android adb deivice and Android Flash Tool doesn't see device. Any suggestions !?
Thank you
