Google wallet - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Galaxy note has nfc chip so I downloaded google wallet from the market. I couldn't find it in the market app so I found it from browser. The problem is when I try to open it, it doesn't open and tell me that I have incompatible device. Is there any way that I can use google wallet? Do I have to root the device?

NFC in the AT&T Note has been disabled. We have the hardware in the phone but it will take some time for our Dev's here to figure it out. So it will be down the road a bit before we can use Google Wallet.

Thank you for the information

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I'm really losing my patience with this nfc diabling stuff ATT is pulling on all their phones. We paid for the hardware. Even if they don't want to include any nfc capable apps, they could at least ship it enabled.

it's more of a safety thing right now. anyone can scan your phone through your pocket and take credit card info and other person information.

Makes no sense to me. I don't care about wallet but i want to use the programmable disks.

That excuse was fine at first, but there are other cool things you can do with nfc that don't involve credit cards at all.

Yeah like opening doors with the swipe of your phone or going thru security check systems without having to look for/wear your ID on you.
But how many buildings/offices have that technology as of yet?
Still useless technology if you live in the States.. minus the new Google wallet feature..
unlike Asia and Europe they been using NFC for some time now..

A company I worked for in Nashville used RFID chips in our id's to get into the building. It worked very well.

Even when NFC is enabled we wont be able to use google wallet unless you spoof build.prop to a nexus device. Those are the only ones that will work with the app correctly. NFC is far from useless otherwise though. I just got a bunch of black NFC tags to start writing my own for my skyrocket and once we get NFC enabled on the note. I will have one on my car dock to turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth, turn up volume, and open a car dock app. All without toughing the phone

That's odd Canadians already have nfc enabled. One of our banks here let's us use it.

I'd bet cash money that if the iPhone came with NFC not only would it be enabled but AT&T would actively promote it.

Not only would they promote it, but Apple will quickly claim it's a great new innovation of theirs, and promptly sure every other manufacturer for violating their patent on it's implementation.

Anyone Using Pressurenet On Thier Note?

I'm the developer of pressureNET. There are plenty of reasons you may want the app, but I understand if you don't find them appealing. The project is open source and it exists because I think I can revolutionize weather prediction by collecting data that nobody else is collecting. We have received more than 1,000,000 measurements from thousands of users, currently averaging about 17,000 per day. My plan is to build a live network of atmospheric pressure across the world (wherever there are cities, anyway) of a significantly better density than has ever been attempted.
Currently, I do not predict the weather because I do not have enough data. Therefore, if you are looking for immediate utility from the application and you have a barometer in your phone, the only feature I can offer you is the pressure reading and tendency from your barometer.
The other principle reason you may want to join is that the project is really really awesome. You might want to be a part of it.
I'd love to answer any other questions. Additionally, I'm in this thread because I don't know the answers to the OP's questions. Does the Note vary by carrier in its barometer capabilities? What's it like to run pressureNET on the Note?
pressureNET is built by me (and a friend who builds the graphics/UI) and we have a Xoom and a Galaxy Nexus, but no Note to test on. So discussion of the Note is extremely helpful for us to improve the app.
Thanks everyone,
Jacob
Cumulonimbus
According to PhoneArena, it has one: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-GALAXY-Note-LTE_id6779
But it appears the app is only for 3.0 and up, so those on the stock Gingerbread can't test it.
Yes, AT&T Note has a barometer, and it's actually amazingly accurate. I use AndroSensor and Barometer HD to see the sensor data. This project does look really neat, I'd love to see a live "heat-map" of sorts when a storm front hits.

Great work Cumulo. Feel free to contact me if you need testers or whatever.
I use this on my Xoom. Never thought about trying it on the Note.

If you have a credit or debit card with paypass (NFC tag) you can install the NFC tag info app from the market to test with...
I tested today with two friend's EvoLTEs, and both of their phones had NFC that worked with each other, but not with my phone. Looks like it must be my hardware. Guess i'm headed back to Best Buy for an exchange. I will RUU and try again first just in case...
Listen, the EVO 4G LTE NFC antenna is behind the back top glossy cover. The SGS2 NFC is on the battery. So, that is why you need to put the back top half of the EVO LTE over the lower back side of the other phone.
I've found that if you're trying to use nfc for checkout it's easiest to already be in google wallet, but all that's required is for the screen to be on.
for other apps like beaming a webpage to another phone, hold them together, they'll buzz, then tap the screen on the one you want to transmit.
some apps don't support nfc beaming, like gallery.
as always, make sure settings are enabled in "settings/more"
I dunno if you have a case on or not but according to Google wallet support hard rubbery cases weaken the signal while hard plastic cases work but it's best to go naked while using it.

thanks for the replies. yeah, i don't use any case, I prefer the thinness! After my RUU back to stock this morning i still can't get any NFC connections to happen, so i'm headed back to best buy for an exchange today...
Best Buy replaced my phone today and now NFC works as expected! It was funny when I talked to the "mobile manager" and told him my NFC wasn't working and he asked me "What is NFC." yeah... regardless of his knowledge-ability of technology, he did give me a no hassle exchange and out the door in under a half hour, which is lightning fast in my experience in that store...

I felt the same way when I first heard about it. After seeing it and using it I have to say that I feel very differently about it. It's a cool idea and very convenient to have all your coupons and loyalty cards in there and automatically applied as you make your purchase. That being said, Isis is the system that will probably win out in the end.

I used Samsung Tec Tiles when I had my S3, and they are pretty nice. I second the use of NFC Task Launcher and it's assorted apps.
I got a 4 pack of sony xperia tags, which seem to work fine, but can't hold many actions...for instance, the default car action says it has too much data, so if I take away one action then it will save it.

I've been chewing on this for a few days. I'm a little familiar with the tech having used the FeliCa systems in Japan that are a predecessor(JR East's Suica + all the other JR cards). But for current NFC tech I'm at a loss where to source the content.
I'm looking for a 1Kb tag (probably MiFare 1K?) so it could host some primitive apps not just a weblink. Tags that would ideally be inkjet/laser-printable too. Do these exist, or do they need to be professionally-printed due to the electronics?
Does XDA have a dedicated forum for NFC products and coding? I think this would be increasingly beneficial over NFC threads/forums for each phone since basically EVERY new smartphone now includes it, not just the Nexus devices.

No dedicated forum, and as far as printing them, what you want out of these tags is actually sandwiched in between layers. The Samsung TecTiles are 1k, rewriteable, and they do a lot more than host weblinks.

I don't think Google partnered with anyone. I think they just allow any debit card because their MO is to gradually infect the market with its product until it is universal and all the competitors are out of business, while ISIS follows the "generate revenue now so we can have a good presentation at the next shareholder meeting". But anyway, coincidently my only two cards are a Chase debit and Amex credit, but regardless I'm sticking with Sprint for now because it's the cheapest option with adequate coverage in my area. So if Google ever gets its stuff together before the Note 4 comes out, I will be happy camper blowing the minds of unsuspecting cashiers!

Yes, unfortunately you will look quite stupid...since the NFC feature (tap and pay) is not enabled in Google Wallet on the GN3. A google rep informed me via email to expect an update soon (within weeks) that will add more compatible devices, so we'll see. But as the previous poster said, until you see the "tap to pay" feature enabled in "about" on the Wallet app on your phone, you will just hold up the line at your local Walgreens and make a fool out of yourself. Trust me...I'm speaking from experience!

How? Please share your secret...I just checked the website and Note3 still not listed under compatible devices. I would love to have this feature back before I get a Note4!
I flashed to cyanogenmod 11. It is in the development section. The Kat Kat ROM has an NFC emulator that that allows Google wallet to work. What this means is now Google does not need the carriers permission to install Google wallet on devices so now all the new devices that have Kit Kat and the newer operating systems will have Google wallet working out the box.

Cyanogenmod is the way to go!
If I have to load CM to make this work I'll just keep using my debit card and wait for KitKat

I heard that the Note 3 should be getting a Kit Kat update this month.
