Hi everyone!
I am trying to flash cm9 with CWM v5.0.2.8, but the phone gets stuck while booting. Before flashing I wipe everything (dalvik cache, cache, data, battery stats), and format the system, and still I am getting stuck while booting again and again. I see a screen with a red circle with M inside it, the text under it is "dual core technology", and the text in the top - "unlocked". I can wait and wait but nothing happens. the only choice is to restore to the stock rom. My device is rooted and unlocked.
I Tried to use the previous version of CWM, but after I flash it with rom manager the recovery gets unreadable. I go into the recovery mode and see unreadable lines of text.
Please help me! I'm tired of unplugging and plugging the battery again and again..
Thank you!
Forgot to say:
I tried to flash the file "beta-0.2.0-cm-9.0.0-RC0-Sunfire-KANG-signed.zip".
Should I have flashed any special kernel?

Bold part is the problem. For some reason the newest version of CWM results in a stuck boot with CM9 for the photon. You need 5.0.2.7 (or below I'd assume).
Go here and grab the CWM that is posted and flash that.
Thanks. How do I flash a recovery? RSD lite is good?
Edit: I tried to use bootstrap, but it doesn't boot into recovery but into android. So how do I flash the "old" version of CWM?

OR use the moto-fastboot method which is simple too.
Thanks for the help! I managed to flash the recovery, and then I successfully flashed the cm9! Thank you!

I'll be honest this is why I don't like rom manager
Good practice should be to do everything as "manually" as possible first, then consider using apps like rom manager to speed up these tasks.

Im running into problems with Cyanogen Mod 7 I can't get it to install. I choose the zip in cwm and it sits there for a sec then gives me either a bunch of errors or a status 7. Its like the zip is corrupt. I tried re downloading it with no luck. I tried installing the 7 04 build and it just bootloops or doesn't work. I installed the june 19 build just fine though. Anyone else having problems? I got ukb to work just fine too
EDIT: Has been resolved. Thanks everyone for your kindness to my noobness

Yeah I've tried to do it from there too. I actually got the 7/04 build to flash. Then when I try to flash the 7/13 one it gives me a status7.

i ran into the same thing. If your already on 7/04 go into orange recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and it should work. If not try flashing one of the OTB kernals, rebooting then go to recovery and try to flash.
Orange recovery? Like do I use the recovery that I already have or should I download rom manager on 7/04 and flash that recovery because if that's not the case and I use the one I already have it won't work cause I tried it. :\

Once you have 7/4 test, you should go to Recovery via the reboot menu or adb reboot recovery.. DON'T use the power & vol- 7 vol+ method..
Also do not use rom manager with the fascinate period.

Until jt's commits get official CyanogenMod support - once that happens new CM7 nightlies will be posted to ROM Manager and the CM7 version of ROM Manager will work 100% for the Fasc.
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
it's frustrating I know.. make sure you are on 7/04 build. When you flash CM7, instead of the red recovery, you should get the orange recovery. You can only flash 7/13 build from the orange recovery. Wipe cache/dalvik and you should be able to flash 7/13 without any problem.
If you are getting bootloop from 7/04, that's because you did not wipe data on red recovery before you flashed 7/04. Go back to the red recovery, wipe data, and flash 7/04 again. Flash 7/04 fully on orange recovery, reboot recovery, flash 7/13 after wiping cache/dalvik, profit.
edit-moved to Q&A
So how do I get orange recovery? Cause when I flash 7/04 I still have my old recovery
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
After you boot 7/4 cm7, you want to get into recovery by holding power button, selecting reboot, then recovery. Or open a terminal and type su <return> reboot recovery <return>.
After you are on cm7 my experience is never do 3 button recovery or it will hose everything that you have achieved to this point.

Okay well I got it installed. What I did was install 7/04 build, then I went into Rom Manager and chose the recovery I had installed or whatever. Then I rebooted into recovery and it was orange. Then I installed it just fine. I am now running on the 7/13 update Thanks everyone for your help, took me a bit to figure out but I got it.
I've tried flashing recovery via Odin and CWM Recovery and it will reboot into recovery just fine. However, when I let it reboot into android, turn it off, and then go back into recovery, CWM is gone. The phone, however, stays rooted.
Any idea what could be wrong or how to fix this?
Secondly, if I can get into CWM immediately after flashing, is it safe to flash a new ROM at that point or do I need to get CWM to stick first?
Anyone? Any suggestions at all will be appreciated

Sure... You can flash a rom immediately following the flash of cwm.... Did you also install busy box?
Which cwm are you trying to use? 5.8.4.7 seems to do me good....?

Before your phone boots after installing cwm in Odin do a battery pull then boot into recovery (Volume Up+Home+power) then flash your superuser/root package. It will stick then.

I tried using that CWM version as well as an older one. Both work and I can get busy box and superuser installed once it boots up. But when I power down and try to go back into recovery, CWM is gone. I do get to keep root though.

I tried unchecking the auto-reboot button on Odin 4 and 7, and going that route. Both allow me to get into CWM, where I try to flash the recovery v5.zip. Still doesn't stick unfortunately.
My flash counter is up to about 10 now, trying to get CWM to stick..

Thanks everyone. I used CWM toolkit, reflashed the stock recovery, then used odin 3.07 to re-flash CWM 5.5.0.4 and it stuck.
OK so Im on AOKP milestone 6 with the devil kernel and i went in to recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache and when i pressed reboot system it goes back to recovery!!!! please help as I really don't want to reflash everything!!! Thanks.
I had this same problem until I flashed TWRP. When I rebooted, it instead loaded the OS, but it still had Devil Recovery. WTF?
Have you tried re-flashing the rom without wiping data?

Try flashing CWM recovery again using Heimdall or Odin. Once it boots into recovery, flash TWRP or another recovery of your choice, then reboot and hopefully you will see your boot animation. That's what I did to get AOKP build 40 to boot again (though strangely enough, it's stuck with Devil recovery even after flashing TWRP). Hope this helps you guys out. And be sure to make backups!

Again, how can i put twrp on my sd card if i'm stuck in recovery? Is there a link for an odin version of twrp
You should be able to mount your SD card in recovery anyway. If not, take it out and insert it into an adapter to plug into your computer. I don't know if there's an Odin version of TWRP, I flashed it in CWM recovery.
I would read droid styles guide first if you have not yet as it has all the answers you will need. You just need to read through it and following the directions.

If you're using CWM, it's under Advanced or Mounts and Storage. Plug in the USB cable like you normally would.

I try to install twrp but it says installation aborted. I'm really starting to get sick of this phone and its stability issues.
You got the zip, right? It's in the Fascinate development section of the forums.
There is nothing wrong with the phone. I don't understand why you can't just Odin back to stock and start over. With the amount of time you have been stuck in recovery you could have fixed it by now. It you could follow droid styles guide to get out of the recovery loop without going back to stock. Something tells me you really just want a new phone...am I close???

Don't you belong in a different section?
Anyway, sorry for getting snippy, I was just really tired and frustrated. I did use the .zip from the forums.
If you've already tried Heimdall-flashing CWM again, and that didn't work, then I suggest you Odin back to stock as shelby suggested. If you haven't made a nandroid already, do so, then revert back to stock and start from scratch. You can try restoring your nandroid once you're no longer stuck in recovery.

Hi
Can a rooted phone be rerooted as in without unrooting? (i'll explain)
I rooted my boyfriend's phone over a year ago and therefore cannot remember what method I used. Per his request, I wanted to install a new rom however, I am getting a signature verification error. While looking for answers, most posts recommend disabling the signature BUT I do not have that option when i go into recovery. My only thought in fixing this is to place a root over the root lol
Any advice?

Sounds like you dont have a custom kernel and instead are trying to flash a rom via stock kernel.
Just reboot into download mode and flash Siyah kernel in ODIN. Once its installed you can reboot into custom recovery and flash new rom. I would advise to wipe data/factory reset in custom kernel before or after installing new rom.

Can you please point me in the right direction on how to do this? It is the first time I run into a problem such as this one in 4 phones i've had
Which one from this list?
Is booting into custom the same as the normal Recovery boot?

It depends on which firmware is now installed on his phone, which version of Siyah can be installed.
No, CWM Recovery isn't the same as stock Recovery. To flash a new rom you should have CWM Recovery, as you will have when you've flashed Siyah.
About the flashing itself: just search for rooting and flashing guides, here on xda or google. There are plenty of them.
Good luck.

EDIT: PDA. <
Did exactly what Athiest suggested but now some purple yin yangish logo appears while turning on but nothing after, just a black screen
you have a bootloop.
go into cwm recovery clean cache and the advance clean dalvik cache and reboot, that might fix the problem.

Hello,
Yesterday, when trying to create a backup of my current ROM (original, factory ROM) it seems that after the backup process was finished, when I tried to reboot my phone it would go directly into cwm recovery instead of starting up normally. This happens every time I try to reboot the phone. I have a Samsung Exhibit sgh-t599n (metro pcs).
Other things that may be revelant to my problem: the backup was not successful (there was a message saying something about an image not being copied). Also, in the cwm recovery menu there is a warning that says "No file_contexts".
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Thank you

Okay so you do know how to get into Odin. Try flashing a different custom recovery. Also make sure the one you are using is made for your device. There aren't any recoveries that are universal with 1 file. Just make sure the one you are using is for your phone!
