[Q] Help choosing please - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This may seem like a crazy question to ask here and I don't want to offend anyone but not sure where to go for the answer. I want to buy a tablet (First one) and I have it down to two. Acer A200 and Galaxy 10.1. I know of all the uses of each and it seems there is only a few differences that I see.
1. Rear facing camera which is no big deal for me
2. The Acer as far as I can find does not have a way to do video out.
3. The obvious Acer has ICS and I would have to root to get that with the Galaxy and have no experience whatsoever with that and would be very nervous doing it. I do have a Droid Bionic and since the new OTA I'm happy with it and see no reason to root my phone. Not saying with some help that I would be opposed to do it with a tablet. Basically I just need a little guidance on my decision. I'm almost certain that someone on here can give me the best advice. Thank you to all who help and give honest opinions.

as i read your question in a gtab forum, i would suggest you to prefer the gtab 10.1 than the other one for these very old reasons:
-The gtab 10.1 is obviously the winner over the other one on the hardware race and supports.
-You don't have to be a greasemonkey to get to the deepest parts of the gtab, with all the helps from devs team and everyone here.
-Obviously the gtab does have ICS 4.0.3 on the go, and between you and me, my gtab on ICS last 5 days on battery without charging. great thanks to the devs team.
-The most pleasure for someone to have their very own Android devices is to play with it, root it, make it better, powerful and handy, the gtab in my opinion fully support all of those in a very special way.
-Gtab 10.1 well, what to say, on ICS its benchmark is over 3600 in its best condition.
but the last decision is yours, a suggest is only a suggest

You probably don't need to root the gtab for ICS, I am guessing it is very close to getting the update. I would go with the gtab.

I was in a similar position of choice not long ago. as you can tell I went with the tab and have not regretted it for one single second. I love to tinker and tweak a lot & with all the support here the tab was a great choice.
My advice is to buy locally from a place with a 30 day return policy and get them both. Then after you realize the superiority of the tab take the other one back. Really don't try this unless you're positive of the return policies.
Ultimately I suggest the tab if you even like tweaking or tinkering at least a little. If you hate tweaking or tinkering I would suggest a fenced in over priced iPad. lmao
If you can read this it was sent using my GT-P7510.

A big Thank you
Thank you Lonelycount, Helebek and Benzoman. Thats pretty much all I needed was for a couple of people to help me confirm what I thought would be the better choice. It appears that right now on W-mart website I can get a refurb for $349 So I believe I'm gonna take advantage of that price. This way I can always return it to the store. So once again thank you for your replies to my question. Very helpful.

Wise choice brother.

[Q] Would you buy again/still?

I know it may be a strange question, but I've loved Android since the G1 was released and I absolutely don't want to let it go. I guess my question is pretty straightforward, but through your experiences, would you still buy a G Tab?
Currently I have a few Android devices, an HTC EVO and a nook color. I've been toying with the nook and love it so far, but I feel like something is lacking when it really comes down to it. My concern is that something like that G Tab just won't fill that want/need/etc.
Are you happy with the performance? If so, what is it that really draws you to the device? What do you love/hate about it? I suppose I'm seeking real world answers.
It looks like you can fairly regularly find a G Tab for ~$250 USD. It's significantly less than the new kid on the block, the Asus Transformer, and from what I'm reading on their forums, people are struggling with things like technical support, defective units, etc.
I just can't see myself spending the $400 on it, which I feel like leaves me with either staying with the nook color or trying to find a G Tab used for ~$250.
Sorry for being so longwinded, I want to assure I'm making a smart decision and will enjoy my purchase if I decide to make one.
Cheers!
There is a long running topic just like this in the general forum.
Would I buy it again? Sure - if I went back in time, and faced the choices available, and knew what would happen in the following three weeks, you betcha.
It does exactly what I want, cheaply. Yay.
If your concerned with technical support and defective units the Gtab may not be the best device. If you want something cheap to hack around on and dont care about some quirks then its an okay buy
Of course. I get to play around on it alot with different updates, roms, etc. My kids love to play games on it as well. I wouldnt have minded to get the now cheaper price, but Im fine with that.

[Q] Looking to Buy But Have OTHER Questions

Yes, I know there's another thread with the same title, more than likely right below this one. I have different questions though and wanted to make sure my thread was seen. Sorry if that upsets you. Anyway...
I've been debating back and forth to get a tablet lately for a variety of reasons. I want something that can be used for school, something my son can enjoy, something for trips, etc, etc. I am no stranger to the Android OS in general, as I have an HTC Inspire 4G running RCMix3D KINGDOM v2.0. So my question isn't so much about the device, but more about my options once I purchase it.
At $250.00 through Amazon.com I would be stupid not to get this tablet over the Archos 101 in my opinion. It's twice the specs at only 20 or 30 more dollars. Anyway, on to my question... Once I get the tablet in hand, what ROM should I use that will be stable and fast, but also give me the most bang for my buck? Side question here is if it's also possible to get HTC Sense working on this device at all?
As well as that, what's this I hear about this device dual booting with Windows 7? I read that it could, then that it couldn't, then that it was another Viewsonic device that could and got confused with the G tab. What's the real deal here? Google has not been my friend on this particular question.
the Gtablet will not run windows. There is another Viewsonic device that does have dual boot, but it's most definitely not this one.
As far as the other questions, I'll let somebody else address them, as I'm pretty much committed to never recommending any viewsonic device to anybody that I may have respect for. I'm in full on boycott mode, here.

Care to go into that statement at all? I'd like to hear what happened, specifically if it pertains to the device in question that I'm about to buy.

Read the thread in the general section entitled "disappointed at Viewsonic." I'll sum it up for you:
gtablet released, people bought it, software sucked, Viewsonic releases a series of updates to improve their horrible firmware. It doesn't matter, becuase people started using exclusively 3rd party roms to make it a useful tablet, not a hunk of junk.
Viewsonic released it's last update in January. It was update 1.1.3588. i bought my Gtablet in March. No joke, the day after I received it in the mail, there was a campaign unleashed to attempt to get Viewsonic ot update their firmware yet again, since it was used for the source for some roms...things needed fixed still, etc.
In April, because of hte pressure, they released an update 1.2.4349. It changed the bootloader of the Gtablet, which is why there are roms made for 2 different bootloaders. Unfortunately, this 4349 update did very little to fix existing issues and caused some others. For instance, Gtablet stock firmware users lost HD video playback, and the ability to change wallpapers.
And then....silence for (let's see, it's July, that was April) 3 months so far. I know that 3 months doesn't sound like much, but the device has only been available for 8 months.
The bigger issue is that the 4349 update was pulled 24 hours after it's release. So, anyone that updated to it had no way of reverting back to 3588, where things worked a bit. they've also been selling them in Woot Tiger Direct and Amazon deals with the broken 4349 firmware preinstalled.
In addition, they outsourced their customer support to a company called US Merchants, a repackager (their name is also on the back of the tablets, too) who really know nothing about technology, or customer support. They even, at one point, pointed tech support questioners to THIS forum to get support.
Now, Notion Ink Adam and Advent vega have identical hardware to the Gtablet. Vega's OS was superior and then ported to the gtablet (VegaNTab). Notion Ink is actually attempting to get Honeycomb to run on their devices, with the help of the 3rd party developer community. What has Viewsonic done for their customer base....that's right, NOTHING.
The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I had an online chat with Viewsonic technical support. I asked a simple question of "Peggy," "Is Viewsonic intending on updating their firmware, or attempting to request drivers from NVidea so that 3rd party developers can work on accelerated gingerbread and honeycomb roms?"
The answer I received was to call (US Mechants) for technical support, that they handle the Gtablet, now. I asked if anyone at Viewsonic had anything to do with the Gtablet, and they responded that they "Have no informaiton regarding the Gtablet in their resources." To me, that read, Viewsonic no longer develops or supports the Gtablet in any way.
SO...buy it if you will, 3rd party development is wonderful for this thing. even the Froyo Roms are exceptional to work with. I'm running Calkulin/Clemsyn combo, and it's great. The tablet hardware is excellent, the 3rd party development is top rate, but if you ever expect the manufacturer ever give a ****, then I suggest you get an Acer Iconia, Motorola Xoom, or Asus Transformer. I know that Motorola has already updated their OS from 3.0 to 3.1, then 3.2. We've been on 2.2, then, slightly better 2.2, then oh wait, let's break 2.2, then your stuck on broken 2.2.

First off, shortened the quote because I don't feel people wanna read 8000 lines of the same text. But anyway, I loved your "review" of the product and the background. Basically what I got from it was that it's a great device, with plenty of options that go with it if you are willing, and that manufacturer support absolutely sucks on this device. Kind of sucks too becuase I do like it, but it also makes me not want to give my $250.00 to a company that couldn't give two ****s about the product they sell.

I like your nutshell...
Alternatives aren't as bad as you might think. My stepfather bought an iconia a week ago from staples for $299...of course, he used a $100 off coupon they had. Be patient and another deal will be around shortly.

To buy or not to buy

Ok , a co worker is selling a 32G almost new touchpad. I really want to buy this since i missed out on the firesale and he is offering at the same price as he bought it for and also CM devs are working on it and judging by the videos i saw, i see a lot of potential.
Now since you guys are already on it and some of you have installed CM7 on it, i want to know if its a good investment as I intend to use it only with android. I know its still in alpha and developing stage, but is the hardware really worth the investment ?
Or should I hold on for a few more months and then buy something better ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Well if he's asking for 150 that's a steal people these days are dying for a deal like that

yeah definitely jump on it.
and then send it to me.
thanks
jk
I've got the alpha loaded on mine, haven't messed with it to much but the major things are working no problem. My opinion, buy it! Great investment. Maybe its the CM7 team being humble or my ignorance but this build looks like it is closer to beta than alpha, my opinion
Edit: As far as the hardware, everything on it is great, except the camera. Its kinda crappy in either OS. The speakers are loud and clear. I had the processor('s) overclocked to 1.5ghz normally but up to 1.7 and it was stable, that was in webOS only, haven't got that far in Android. The one thing I like about the touchpad over other tablets, and it may seem gimicky, but the Touchstone built in inductive charging. I'm not to familiar with other official Android tablets, but the lack of expandable memory on the touchpad kinda stinks, but theres enough cloud services and what not to cover that. The list goes on, overall, theres a lot more positives than negatives on this device. No regrets!
Thanks guys. Really appreciate the honest answers. I actually got my hands on it today and im pretty impressed.
I think i'll buy it and 150 is a steal like you guys pointed out. Cant wait to get on the development forums and start messing around with the CM7.
Thanks guys!
Definitely get it. I bought one during the firesale and had doubts about webOS. Now I love it. I also have a Asus Transformer but I have only used it 2 or 3 times since I got the TP. I basically gave the transformer to my wife. Now I love WebOS. It is definitely more user friendly than honeycomb. I wish there were more apps, but there is still an app for pretty much everything. I hate to see how kill what palm worked so hard for, but that's the only way I would have ever experienced it, because I damn sure wasn't going to pay $600 for a tp.
Definitely get it and just give webOS a try. If you like Android I think you will be impressed with webOS. It has a look and feel like Android with a skin rather than a full separate OS. If someone could make Android apps run on the Touchpad I wouldn't be able to find a single bad thing to say about a TP at all.
Also please don't think I am any sort of palm/hp/webOS fanboy trying to troll. I am truly and Android fan and will always be, webOS has just grabbed more of my attention in the tablet space, for now. That could all change after ICS is released.
Good luck, and definitely get it. Worse case u don't like it and could still sell it for a small profit.
lol when i went to Android i kept trying to swipe up to change apps.
LOL
Hey guys! hope ur all doing well
so i am looking for a nice tablet and i feel for the hp touchpad. The problem is: Its not sold in my country so i have to buy it from Ebay. I am now wondering is 260$ worth buying the HP Touchpad? It will be 300$ including shipping, thats the cheapst i could find on Ebay. I was looking for the motorola Xoom but its very expensive..with shipping it could be 450-500$ for the Xoom. So help me out plz, should i buy it?! never owned a tablet before, and from looking at the reviews, WebOS looks awesome, so smooth and then u'll always have the chooice to put android (i think with ICS it will become even better when the source code is released) what is your thoughts? hit me!

I agree. I like Webos.. Its pretty.. Easy to use.. I like the multitasking concept.. Though I just added perfect task switcher in Android which sorta gives you the same thing though not as good. Android is clunky compared to it.. Because its made for for small screens.. But I still love it and haven't booted webos since cm7 lol...

Same here! Still getting used to the onscreen "soft keys" as well
At the fire sale price or close to it, it's a no brainer. Not even worth asking...
Worse comes to worse if you absolutely hate WebOS, you can always sell it and at very least get you money back.

[Q] Thinking of buying a GT - Need candid assurance

I'm thinking of getting a GT and have done some research here and other sites. The more I read the more worried I'm becoming whether buying a GT is really a good idea.
My main concerns are the screen issues, newton rings, moisture under the screen, oil slicks, shaky or flickering screen, device not turning on or charging properly, etc.
As with all forums, it's always the problems that get highlighted so I'm finding it difficult to gauge how wide spread these problems are, i.e. do they only affect 1% of the GTs or is it more like 30%? Do Samsung acknowledge there is a screen problem?
I'd like some candid advice from owners whether they are completely happy with their GT and whether they would buy one again if they were buying now?
If it makes any difference I'd be buying the 16GB WiFi only model from the UK.
I am very happy with my wifi galaxy tab10.1. In my opinion this is the best tablet currently available in market.
And I would advice any of my friends to buy this only at this moment.
Regarding newton rings : its acknowledged by Samsung UK and is present in the FAQ system of their website

I really like my tab, and haven't really had any problems. However, I did get some moisture under the screen after I left it laying outside on a hot day, but I just stuck it in the freezer and it went away .
Now, the decision of whether to get a GT... The main downfall is no external sd card (although this may not bother you). It's very thin, light, and looks good (+), but doesn't have the ports (like hdmi or usb) that other HC tabs have now (-). And, it's a bit more expensive than say a transformer, so you should take that into account too. My best advice would be to go somewhere like bestbuy and test them all out, then buy one on Amazon (generally cheaper).
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not too bothered about the lack of external connections as the tab will mainly be used for some web browsing and the odd e-mail. I do however want to root it.
I did also consider the Transformer but the newer serial numbers haven't been successfully rooted yet. TBH, if it was rooted I would probably go for the transformer as it's ~€100 cheaper than the GT and already has the HC3.2 upgrade.
I've had a play with both and liked both. I preferred the GT's physical aspects (size and weight) and am familiar with TW as I have a GS2 so it's my first choice.
My main issues are the screen problems. Would you say the problem exists in all GTs (i.e. design flaw) but only manifests themselves when exposed to higher temperatures or is it something that is affecting only a batch of devices (i.e. manufacturing flaw)? I know that's probably difficult to answer but I'd like to hear opinions none the less.

Thanks for the link. Well judging from that poll the problem seems to affect more than 50% of those that voted. It's not completely clear whether the problem has been fully resolved either. I've asked on that thread for people with screen replacements to say if the new screens have resolved the problem.
I would say i'm a basic user of my tab...i haven't rooted it as no idea how to go about doing that.
Overall for what I wanted it for, it's exceeded my expectations. I haven't encountered any issues with newton rings (touch wood) not lagging.
I have the 32gb wifi only version and I would suggest this is the optimum size. I feel the 16gb would be way too small.
Download dice player or another as this will play most files thrown at it. Also pay for the HDMI and USB adaptor to be able to watch on your TV or to transfer files. I've found this the easiest way to get files onto the tab rather than messing with Kies (don't go there) or using wifi explore options.
I wanted a tab for on the go, watching movies that i've downloaded without the need to convert (as with ipad). For this reason, it's a great tab, light and widescreen! Nice widgets and can customise the home screen. I'm sure I could get more use out of it, but I've come from apple products so new to android.
With the release of the TF2 coming nov 9th I'd definitely wait for that. If the Tegra 3 can run 1080p smoothly I'm making the switch over.
i have the 16gb metallic grey for 3 weeks now. I live in canada, i work as a real estate broker and am using the tab a lot, especially outside.
Here is fall season, temperatures are getting colder. I didnt have any problems with my screen. I really like my tab.
At first, i wanted to wait for TF2, but since they never said the exact date it would be release and that i was waiting since august, i bought the Galaxy 10.1 and i have nothing bad to say.
The only thing (as stated by others) the lack of sd/usb/hdmi slot turn me down a bit but u can fix that easy with thoses 2 : http://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-Galaxy...GY7Y/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1320212663&sr=8-7

I'd wait if I was you. The GT10 is not perfect. Sometimes they have defects (gasp!). And then when you call customer service--they don't even speak the same language and they ask you questions! Can you imagine being asked questions! It's terrible! It's like they're saying "I hate your stupid face." when they ask you to "press the power button and tell me what happens." And performance? Well, it's good, but as soon as something new comes out it will totally suck. Like "wow, how did I ever use that" sucking. It will be abysmally bad! Everyone will laugh at you.
At some point, they will make a perfect piece of technology, then you won't need to ask because it will be perfect. Also, I think you should wait to breathe until the air is perfect. Hold your breath and I will tell you when it's time to breathe.

Oh wow that's very helpful and original.
I don't have 500 bucks to throw at a device that may have a design flaw nor the time to chase around getting it repaired because of persistent problems and so was trying to gauge the reliability of the device and extent of any problems.
You obviously have too much time if you can write all that dribble. If you don't like the topic don't read it.

Dude, there will always be something better coming out, if he wait for that "perfect" product, well he will never buy something.
I didnt want to spoil my money either. Here in canada, with a 3yr sim card data plan, i got a discount and my tab cost me 350$.
Before taking my decision, I've looked at almost all review on the web, went to stores and played with all the tabs.
At the end, it will be a personnal decision. Think about ur needs, no product is perfect, it might defect, thats why u get a warranty when u buy it. For me that was another reason not to buy online, just in case i need service on the tab.
Now for the reliability, since we live in differents parts of the world, i guess nobody can give you a 100% advice about it.
For my two cents, I love my Tab, think it is definitely with getting the 32 GB version, and was unlucky enough to have a problem with the charging connecter breaking. I bought it on Craigslist like-new, but didn't have a receipt. I called Samsung in the middle of the night (24 hour support), and was able to get everything taken care of. It took five minutes, at 1 am Pacific time, speaking to someone with an American accent. They sent me a return label, so I didn't pay a penny to get it repaired, even without proof of purchase. Got it back today, two weeks later. Impressive.
I've got to say, I work with a fair amount of tech support for my job as an audio engineer, and am always amazed with how much better support I get from dealing with companies like Allen & Heath through my work, because we have pro accounts with them all. Samsung was nearly on par with them. That's saying something if you ask me.

Bought the 3G 16 GB version and love it.
The USB adaptor was included free in the box.
This beauty is the next best thing after my wife and kid
16 GB is more than enough, as USB works fine, and if you need extra space there is always the GoFlex Satellite with 500 GB. I think buying 32 GB does not make any sense.
Got also the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+ and together with the tab it's a killer combo
So if you are really interested in getting a tab, I would go all out for it
Ok, kinda stupid question, but here it goes:
I have played around with the black version of 10.1 16GB 3g version and the back plastic has a somewhat "rubbery feel". What I want to know is whether the white one has the same feeling or it is glossy and "shiny"... Well Iam ordering tomorrow and want to know please! Thanks!
I was going to make my own thread regarding the GT10.1 before buying one, but thought I would just post it in here:
My question is currently from what I know with stock you have to use Kies to transfer data/backup. With a custom ROM does still happen or can I just use it as a mass storage like all android phones?
I planned on getting a 32gb, but don't know if that is the smart choice. With all kinds of cloud and online storage is 32gb even needed? I know it has no expansion on the device itself.
Lastly, one of my reasons for getting a tablet is for reading all my ebooks and especially PDFs, how well do these look on the 10.1?

I have played around with the black version of 10.1 16GB 3g version and the back plastic has a somewhat "rubbery feel". What I want to know is whether the white one has the same feeling or it is glossy and "shiny"... Well Iam ordering tomorrow and want to know please! Thanks!

My question is currently from what I know with stock you have to use Kies to transfer data/backup. With a custom ROM does still happen or can I just use it as a mass storage like all android phones?

Since the source hasn't been released, the roms aren't exactly custom but modified stock ones. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). So they work with kies.

So, basically all the owners of a Galaxy Tab have to go the route of Kies to do any kind of data transfer(From PC). Fun.

Well, if indeed I am correct, yes. BUT you can also use dropbox or sent an email to the account that is linked to the tab containing the data. And there is always the option of buying the USB adaptor... Ok I admit that as far as connectivity is concerned, Samsung behaves like Apple but imo what sucks about Apple is not the hardware but the software.
Off topic:
Lets hope that Samsung delivers ICS as well, thus giving us Apple like support!

Disappointed with my Prime

So after a couple of months of research, i decided to go ahead and spend $500 for a new Transformer Prime, thinking it was the coolest and fastest tablet out there. The fact that it runs android and that i can root it and load custom roms on it was just an added bonus. I've had an E4GT for about six months now, so im very familiar with the android community.
However, after about a week with this tablet, im very disappointed. wifi, to be quite honest, sucks, the stock browser locks up for no reason all the time, the whole pad gets really hot when i simply watch a movie on netflix with the brightness turned all the way down. Multi-tasking is terrible, switching from facebook to USA Today to twitter is completely laggy. i bought this tablet as something to use instead of lugging my laptop all around the house with me, but to be honest, id rather sit on my laptop if it meant i didnt have to wait 30 seconds to a minute just for the XDA site to load. for this tablet being a quad core, it runs slower than my dual core phone. battery life also, has seemed to be an issue. one movie on netflix over a very stable wifi with brightness turned all the way down will run out my whole battery. also ive tried a few games, since its advertised as a tegra 3 gaming tablet, and games such as GTA and NOVA arent even very good, frame rate is slow and laggy.
Another thing that i was disappointed with were the number of roms/kernels/tweaks i could do to the machine. now im not trying to discredit the devs, i know they do a TON of work on the roms and such that are out there, so dont flame me, however ive found that even most of the custom roms for our TFP dont really come with alot of custom options, unless you go with CM9 or AOKP.
my mom just bought a new ipad, and i know i know its apple they such blahh blahh and yes, the lack of customizability would absolutely drive me insane, but the browser is wicked fast, the battery life is incredible, and switching between apps is completely seamless. everything youd expect from a $500 tablet
now right now i am running the latest version of AOKP, and the above is all of the things that i keep running into. however, i have run multiple stock and custom roms, and they all seemed to give me the same problems. if the problems im running into are rom based, then please by all means point me in the right direction. i certainly do not know everything about android.
sorry this post is long, but i dont know what im going to do, i definitely not happy with my prime, but when it comes down to the specs, its the best tablet on the market. i guess if in a week or two im still not happy with it ill return it, but if theres anything any of you know that will spark a new love for my prime, id greatly appreciate it.

I think 95% of people on this forum are tired of these threads appearing. Why didn't you post your comments in a thread like this:

I presume your intent was to start a flame war. Enjoy it while it lasts. I hope the mods put this thread out of its misery ASAP
What people should do instead of posting this kind of thing here is send Asus an email.
I'm not saying the email wouldn't just vanish into the ether, but complaining to other users isn't going to accomplish anything.
If you're unhappy, email Asus and let them know.

The problem with the first post of that thread is there's nothing about the lag/browser/io.
You should of RMA it before you unlocked for WIFI.
I have 2 primes, Unlocked and running AKOP
I must say i disagree with everything you say. My tablet is FIRE
Speed is nuts.
Now all we need is a win8 port =)
What kind of customization are you looking for exactly? I do most of mine through widgets, apps, launchers, and live wallpapers, which are mostly rom independent (except the cornerstone roms, which can't use live wallpapers)
And the kernel you use can also affect your wifi experiences.
Try installing Ad Free, it will make your browsing experience much smoother

i agree for one part: aopk is realy snappy. but stock based (androwook) owns it by far in terms of stability and battery life.
we need best of 2 worlds.
in both cases extremely bad IO write speed which causes slowdowns and queueing. this is realy a bugger, hope its fixable.
I realize all some of the things I mentioned have been talked about before, the reason I posted was to see if there was something out there that I was missing that would improve my experience. All you trolls do is look for people to flame. If you really want to contribute to the community how about you help someone out that just spent $500 on a tablet that doesn't deliver what it said it would. So thanks trolls for encouraging me to return this tablet even more. Great community, real helpful. At least the people in the E4GT threads try to do something about the problems they find with their device, instead of just flaming people

Ya, a noob that claims to have done months of research on the Prime before deciding to buy one. If you did all that research wouldn't you have known about the problems some have experienced? What we have here is an iFan troll IMHO. See how the topic eventually got to mentioning the iPad.
If I was still in the return window , this is just me my honest opinion is just return it and wait on something better , plenty of options coming up. I don't have the browser or lag problems some people have but the wifi/BT problem absolutely ticks me off, GPS was dead on mine out the box and Asus screwed up its initial dongle shipments I had to have 75 other people post in a thread before getting any response from people at corporate about it to have them send me another one. Its a great looking tablet but QC on these things is just terrible and my opinion the company isnt much better (shame on Google for going with Asus for the Nexus tablet that really irks me too), TF201 will be last Asus product I buy, you either get one thats great or one with some issue

See my post previous post about improving your web browsing experience.
We probably have different expectations, because I'm running a stock based rom as my daily driver and honestly I'm overall very happy with the experience. I don't use the stock web browser, so maybe that may be the difference, or not.
I also don't seem to notice much lag from switching between apps... then again I'm also not watching lag like a hawk either, so if it does exist, it's not enough for me to take notice.
Lastly, if you put yourself out there then just be ready for the flames to come out. It's probably true that this forum seems to have a higher ratio of trolls though... I guess some people really take this stuff too seriously. But if you let their comments get to you then they have won...

Im new to Tabs but been runnin all kinds of Custom Roms GB and ICS on my 4G Sprint Touch here @ XDA...Mines overclocked at 1.6 and Smokes...I found out the best way to improve it was to read a lotta threads and get different ideas on what to run...
Just like here Ive read a lot of threads ran about 5 different roms with overclocked kernels up to 1.8...My Prime also smokes...from videos to music... movies... you name it...don't notice any lag...Im runnin Wookies Prime 1.0 ...quadrants of 5200-5900 @ performance...Gummys is Super Fast as well...but to me Wooks is more stable...Im more than satisfied the way I set mine up...So just read a bit on here ...set it up the right way and Im sure you'll luv it....
And I think a lotta members on here are more than willing to help...Of course Im unlocked and rooted...Bricked it the first day...But with the help from here...got back up and runnin in about an hour... haven't had a problem since...

I am sorry that the Prime isn't all you were expecting it to be. I am glad you did months of research before posting here, however had you done so you would have noticed three things for sure:
Many people have the same issues as you, and there are threads already addressing the specific issues you mention.
We just had a major ****-storm on this forum over the massive number of duplicate posts talking about the same issues and problems.
Starting threads that are duplicates of topics that already exist on the forum is a "no-no" according to XDA forum rules.
Again I am sorry that the Prime doesn't meet your needs, and I am very sorry for some of the replies you have gotten in this thread. All I can say is people are a little more sensitive to duplicate posts, especially ones that complain without offering any possible solutions to the problems that are the source of the complaint.
If your Prime didn't met your needs you should have returned it to the store before voiding your warranty trying to fix the problem. You still might want to give this a try, or try exchanging it for another Prime and tell them that WiFi isn't working properly as it is an issue most retailers know about. Most retail locations won't check a device to see if its bootloader has been unlocked.
Also if your problem is specifically with Wifi performance, or at least, you phrase it that way to Asus, there is a good chance they will still allow you to RMA the Prime as they have done so for several other people on the forum.
Is not your xda here....

I have flashed every ROM that exists for the Prime, and all have their own minor issues.
For my Prime, I have to say the new Androwook Prime custom ROM is the best there is.
If you haven't tried it yet, do it... you have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time.
Just go read the (95% positive) feedback and you'll want to try it.... it's got freakin Sony Bravia engine in it man It is the fastest ROM I've ever run, super stable, no browser lag or not responding messages, and the WiFi is great. I do like AOKP and Gummy but WiFi sucks on my Prime with those ROMS.
Give it a shot man... come back tonight and let me know how it worked out for ya.
Oh, BTW... after installing Androwook, I got an app called GMD GestureControl... wow it's amazing. Ceck into that too... in love with my Prime even more than ever.

I agree with this 100%
@OP don't take none of the remarks personal. I feel your gripes. Its just that EVERYONE is really frustrated. Especially on duplicate complaint threads. the reason for that is because most are posted just complaining without trying to find a solution or answer to the problem. I know it wasn't this in your case, but just saying in general. People in the Prime forum are actually very helpful and like the other forum you described. Everyone is on edge with this device. We have primes that work great and people satisfied with them & then we have people with primes that have issues and are unhappy. So don't take the flaming remarks to heart.
Try that rom like jaycustom said, since you are unlocked. if your main gripe is wifi, just call Asus and see what they can do. you never know, they might just go on and fix your device although its unlocked. people have had success with that route.
good luck on finding a solution and don't be discouraged.
thank you hairdewx and jaycustom for actually responding with something useful. the reason i posted was to learn. learn more about the device i have and how to set it up the right way to get the results i want. i like the androwook custom rom, but i really like the toggles of AOKP, i use them ALOT. i will try your suggestions and see what i can find out. i tried to use the custom build prop in the development section, but everytime i do it and follow the directions it wont boot past the asus screen. maybe im doing it wrong and i will try it again. thanks again to those of you that actually made an effort to try and help me. my post was not to *****, but yet make the best with what i had.
Love my Prime. Running Virtuous Rom and it is seemless. I have the latest build (serial # starting with C4) so I dont know if they have fixed up the wifi/GPS issues in this build but it is great.
I too am noob and did a fair bit of searching before I purchased (2 weeks ago). I was aware of the GPS/Wifi issues but had read that the new dongle fixed that but hadn't read much about lag or any other problems. All the reviews I read were extremely glowing of the tablet and most ranked their #1. Anyway I suppose I was lucky to get one that works perfectly.
Does anyone know if C4 build has all issues ironed out now? it would be great if it does but Asus should replace tab for those that are extremely unhappy.
Once again, Love my Prime!!!!!
