BOX giving free lifetime upgrade to 50GB for Android users - HTC Amaze 4G

Seriously. I just jaw a post on thriveforums.org and it worked. I just downloaded the app, opened the app, went to register, created my account and a pop up came up confirming my lifetime upgrade. Spread the word. It's from Feb 23-Mar23.

that has been around since november but it is useless. they do not let you upload files that are more than 100mb.

How do you know since you just set up your membership a couple days ago?
Wait... nevermind. I just searched your ip address. I know who you are. You're supposed to be banned from the forums for trolling. I guess we'll just have to extend it. Here's some advice, don't play the moderators for fools.

wow seriously now, only xda memberships know about android offers? funny mod! and since you are such a smartass, 1: the ban counts for the email address not for the whole ip address. 2: there is no 100% guarantee the same ip address is being used by the same person, maybe multiple users using same computer 3: I can always use a software to change my ip address and you my dear moderator can do nothing is just an xda membership, there are more important things in life so stop acting like I am going to miss a lot even if you extend the ban p.s I have 2 other memberships, wanna bet you can't find them "mister love2bprivatedetector.com"?

So we all know who he is, and yes he is a troll with nothing better to do (obviously has no life outside of xda), but he did have a point and his remark did actually help this time (believe it or not). I did not know about the upload limit, and although Feline11 was trying to be a troll, he actually helped.
I know Binary and Whisky know how I feel about Feline11, and I still say ban his IP address and subsequent IPs that will certainly follow. Anyone that will create multiple email accounts just to troll forums has serious mental issues that should seek professional attention asap... Especially at his young age.
Thanks for calling a spade a spade Binary. Sounds like a reincarnation of another "...Jr." troll. They don't die, they multiply lol

I don't care if he helped. He's been a member for a long time and he went very far out of his way to make us think that he was a new member. He even asked a very noobish question something of the lines of "If I take the sdcard out of my phone will it break recovery?" and we both know that he knows better than that. We need honest members that intend to help eachother. Not members that are going to deceive others and turn against them like a stray dog. He was given a punishment for his action and he should be mature enough to face it and not to go around it. We don't just ban people just because we feel like it because if that was the case we would have totally different forum with totallly different moderators. We try to be fair to the members at all times. Is it too much to ask that we get treated with the respect that we deserve rather than trying to insult our intelligence? His ip address was banned and barred from registration as well as his e-mail addresses but I have a gut feeling that we'll be seeing him again. But the good thing is that we have other means to detect those type of accounts other than ip addresses and all we need to do is look. And to look all we need to do is suspect that something isn't right. Obviously in this case something didn't fit right with me and that's why I took a closer look thus unveiling his real identity. He may not have been trolling but it would have only been a matter of time until he did. Remember that the problem isn't his username, it's his attitude and that is nearly impossible for him to change otherwise he would have done so by now.

Right and that's the kind of habits that we look for. That kind of suspicious behavior or an unusual post like what popped up earlier when it drew my suspicion is what causes us to have a closer look. It's really easy for us to look for duplicate accounts. Now it IS possible that a new account can be opened up with another members previously used ip address but even in that situation is pretty rare. But what's even more rare is when he's banned on the 21st and a new account is opened on the 23rd and both members post in the same forum. I think the odds of that happening would be like being attacked by a great white shark on a Detroit metro bus that's actually running on time. Neither will ever happen and for both to happen at the same time... there's just no way. Yet he's surprised that I caught it? Naive little fool.

Wasn't trying to defend him... Believe me. I took my only infraction ever over his trolling and went many rounds with him the other night when he was banned. I'm glad he's gone and appreciate the Mods like Binary and Whisky for keeping this thread clean.
On another note, since this is useless with it being 100mb file size dealy, should we maybe just close the thread?

ok, since we bombarded them over the source releases, I think in all decentcy we should return to say thanks. It's easy to picket and raise hell, so we should at least go clap our hands, they could of easily given us the big finger.
What is it i'm thanking them for again?

At first I read this and agreed 100%. Then as I gave it more thought I realized that would be like a teacher thanking their student for doing their homework or you thanking your mechanic for fixing your car...that's what they are supposed to do...legally required to do (lets not start that whole 'GPL wiggle room' meme again)...and they did it late.
I'm glad they did, I'm not sure if the facebook assault had anything to do with it, but I'm not sure they deserve a thank you for doing what they are required to do.

Apparently you don't know what 'Source' is...
This doesn't mean they have an update for you to download, it means that they released a copy of their kernel.
They only release the source because they are required too not because we asked them. If that was the case well you know the story.

Lol! I totally thank my mechanic when he fixes my car. You thank people when they do things that you appreciate regardless of whether or not its something you're paying them to do. Its Just plain good taste. But yeah, I agree with the OP. Whenever anyone opens their source its a good tying. It allows endeavors like the XDA community to keep on deving.

The simple fact is, they didn't have to do anything. Do you honestly believe we have rights as consumers? I mean really? Do I feel I owed them a thank you?, no. Is it a decent thing to do after the fact?,yes. They gave it to us sooner rather then later, or even at all for that matter. Human decentcy is a funny thing lately in this country, but whatever.

Back down there sparky...I believe I phrased my reply to indicate that I was indeed on the fence with the idea. I'm not laboring over my decision but I want to give it thought. The kernel source is subject to the rules of the GPL. They paid nothing for it and only have to abide by the rules of the license. One of those rules is that the source code must be made available (within a certain amount of time? I keep hearing 30 days but I'm not so sure).
I guess I just used poor analogies. You don't thank someone for not robbing your house...do you?
That said, in the name of fairness (and human decency...towards a corporation that has already demonstrated a desire to screw us as much as we will allow?) I'm still considering my stance.

I appreciate all the work that is done here, and I'm sorry that I cant contribute to that work. I wasn't calling out everybody here, most people didnt hit their page, but those of us that did, I felt a simple thanks would be good in the long term future. You know, maybe the evo3, instead of them being like **** those guys that spammed us last year and never came back, they may be like, hey lets get them the goods again, all the thanks looked good on our fb page. Social networking has given us power, much more than the old 800 number, simply because all complaints and gratitudes are in the public view of the world. Plus as a species thats struggling, again, simple decentcy is refreshing, and whats wrong with that?

When I first read the post I didn't read all the words like I said. I missed the part about the source code.
People just aren't as appreciative as they used to be. Thats what I think mostly America has become. I do get enough thanks for what I do and thats why I keep doing it. I know people like it even though they don't always show it.
I actually talked to HTC this morning and the first words out of my mouth were that I love their phones and what they do.

That's pretty compelling...in the short run. In the long run I would hope that you are proven correct and it's certainly worth a shot. If they don't learn from this, well, we can always attack them again.
I think I just might give them a thanks. All of that positive PR would surely help convince them to do the same in the future.
Well I stopped by their Facebook to say thanks as soon as they posted it. I hit them up in a polite way every day asking for it, so I felt that I wanted to thank them for doing it in a timely matter. Other companies and phones take much longer. Now, if I still had my OG EVO, I would not have thanked them for releasing today. I mean when did the GB update for the OG EVO come out? And they are just releasing it today? This is my opinion, not that anyone asked for it.

"Public Warning" Epilogue

I'm going to post this here because this is essentially where it all started, so I figure it's fitting.
This is basically an "Ending" to everything that happened on this thread Public Warning, Jaywan is Untrustworthy which is still up, but currently locked. I decided not to ask to have it opened again because I didn't want the chance for anything to be changed in that thread. Things got interesting at Page 30, and then started getting odd around the end. (Panda lol's)
In that thread I explained how my friend, and later 2 other people came forward stating that a phone being sold by a dev here was not shipped, and all communications stopped as soon as he received the money from each person. His explanation was that he went on vacation and left the shipping up to someone else. Page 28 he made an appearance, but, in my opinion, handled the comments from everyone else very poorly. by making threats of lawsuit, Tasteless jabs at the situation, and even an admission of insurance fraud
So, that is a recap of that thread... Oh, and did I mention Polar bears?
Here is how it all ended. Rugedraw was the only one that opted to go through with the purchase of "one" of the 3 he said he was selling. This is the message Rugedraw sent me on it's arrival "Hey, man.....I received the package today. The phone is as described. Boots up fine and has a 2.3.5-based Sense 3.5 rom on it. It even came included with an OEM HTC soft rubber case. I called Sprint and verified that the ESN is clean and the phone can be activated.
I have to say: I am 100% satisfied with the phone.
Who would of thought that last week, huh?"
So, he got what he paid for. But after everything, my friend and Faugnom1 weren't interested in possibly getting jerked around anymore and simply opted to have their money returned. Which Jaywan said in the thread he would do.
Paypal was never contacted by him on neither case. On Dallas's case, he had until Nov. 8th to respond or Paypal would rule in Dallas's favor. Which they did, He has had his money returned BY Paypal. faugnom1's case required a response on the 10th. This is what faugnom1 sent me:
faugnom1:"He said he would pay me by today, the same day my paypal thing is up. So if I dont hear from him in a few hours ill finalize the case.
Me:Did you just go thru withthe PayPal dispute?
faugnom1:Yeah never heard from him again after that one day. Paypal ruled in my favor.
So, Paypal disputed in both Dallas's and faugnom1's favor and they were both repaid.
on a personal note:Thank you to the community, the support was tremendous and I tried not to make it a witch hunt, and I know some Mods look down on this type of posting, but I felt it was being ignored and the post did bring 2 more people in who had the exact same thing happen. If everything is quietly handled, it allows the person to do it again, and then after that, maybe getting banned. If it's brought into the light I believe it serves the community better. If this happened to me, I went on vacation and left it all up to someone, I would feel horrible and give out as much info as possible. I don't want people to think I'm dishonest went I am not. It's not a matter of "IDGAF!!" it's a matter of "that's not who I am and I'll clear my name".
I'm baffled on how his account hasn't been banned (disabled and reenabled 2 times though). While, sure, this may have been all some big misunderstanding by some miracle of coincidences. Other members have been perma-banned for less. He made threats in a thread that was deleted by mods, made light of the situations, and was very combative and offered no forward explanation to anyone involved, only stating "if they want an explanation they can PM me" for someone who took 3 peoples money and then lost all contact with them, coming back with that attitude is shocking to say the least.
Thanks for filling us in.

Because Jaywan's account is still NOT BANNED, I'm PM'd a MOD to see if he can take care of it (ie perma banning that fool)
I believe the mods have better things to do than permaban his retarded ass. Like banning people for posting bad pictures or threating banning for using bad language or for flaming or arguing. Cause that's much worse than some dip**** that steals peoples money and shows how much of a douche he is.
Seeing as his account still isn't banned, it's safe to say that the moderators don't care. If they would at least stay out of the MP altogether, I wouldn't mind so much. It's the fact that they pick and choose when and how they will participate that bothers me.

I noticed in the Wanting to Sell forum there is a way to leave feedback on a user. Felacio, you should leave some negative feedback on him so he doesn't try this stuff in the future.

A request to the Android community...

I have been around since the beginning of android. I Had a G1, then a Nexus One, to a MT4G, and now a Rezound. I rooted every one (minus the rezound obviously) and frequented the forums, learning and discussing the Mod'ing of these devices. As these past years have gone by, I have grown more and more concerned with the direction the community has taken.
Now there has always been at least some drama within the community, but as Android has grown in popularity, and more users seek info in the forums, the drama has ramped up exponentially it seems.
I remember when it was more about info than ego...
My request: Can we please get back to what its really about? Mod'ing, Flashing, and fun. Lets leave our egos at the door, they only do more harm than good. A sense of community and mutual respect is what we should strive for.
No personal insults/attacks be respectful even in disagreements
Don't steal code... give credit where due
Don't be a troll
Don't flame someone just for ignorance (if they seem to be habitual in forum misuse tell a mod so they can investigate and they can handle it appropriately)
Expect nothing, make no demands, ask politely... this goes for all sides
Remember this is a hobby and just for fun for most of us. Replace the fun with drama and what is the point.
I am sure there are other things I could list, but that will do for now.
Edit: resurrected from the dead...
Just so you guys know... Nobody is owed anything. No Dev owes you ROMs, root, or anything else. Vice versa, no user owes a Dev anything for their work. (paid market apps excluded) The rooting community is a hobby based entity. We work on respect and a mutual love of the platform. Donations are voluntary but a good idea. (It makes Devs feel appreciated)
Another thing... Drama... It kills the community. It runs off users and Devs alike. It creates a hostile environment that no one wants to deal with. When a device looses Devs it can be a death nail to the further development for that device.
When you think "just my one little question on ETAs won't be a big deal, I'll PM/IRC/tweet/IM the dev" you have to remember... about 100 other people are thinking the exact same thing. Its one thing to pop in the ROM's thread and if you don't see any activity for several days/a week, to post a quick question like "how is it going?", as dealing one one question and being able to answer publicly so others benefit too is not a big deal... Just don't get upset if the answer is a simple "we are still working on it" Often times there is a lot of effort put in but no real progress to report, no landmark goals yet made.
When you take the ETA/update questions into areas like IM that you start getting several people an hour pestering someone with the same question and it gets old...
^^^^^that's what it should about. But u got so many newbies here (and we all started somewhere of course) it seems as of the trolling and such come from New people not understanding the aspect of the site. But I k.ow I'm wasting my time typi.g his. Hope it happens.

When I first started coming here, it was all about the phones. Helpful people, friendly community, the works. After a while it just seemed to deteriorate. Every other thread was a flame war. It got to a point where i'd rather rack my brain or scour Google before I'd ask a question in here, because I knew some ego tripping person with no manners was gonna try to flame me for asking a simple question. A little respect/courtesy can go a long way, whether if ur helping someone or being helped.

Thank you for this post. +1000000000
I would like to see a rule enforced regarding swearing and overly aggressive, or hateful language.
I understand that phones can be frustrating, and so can users. But, if you can't post in a helpful and friendly way, you probably shouldn't post at all.
Temporary (and the threat of permanent) banning should be used to keep those in line who do not have the self control to handle posting in a respectful manner.
I wouldn't worry too much. With the Galaxy Nexus going on sale today, most of the babies crying that they can't unlock/root their Rezound are most likely in line right now to exchange their Rezound for the Galaxy Nexus. That should weed out many of those who do nothing but complain here in the Rezound threads.

This should be in the general forum, not a phone specific Forum.
That aside, I agree. This is a forum where the work people do is totally by choice, because they like it as a hobby or for whatever other reasons they may have. It's all about respect and patience, something a lot of people need to remember and practice themselves.

Not trying to start anything or flame anyone, but isn't it the Mod's job to determine whether a thread is posted in the wrong area and move it accordingly? It just seems that if you come behind someone who took the time to start a thread and tell them that its in the wrong place, you come off like a smart Alec and thus animosity begins. Not saying that u are, just saying some ppl get off on that and only that. Once again, not trying to start anything, just my two pennies.

It is their job, I was just saying what I think but I realized that I didn't put the phrase "I think " in that first comment. It was and still is a suggestion before some people flame him cause it is in this forum. Also, if he wants to get that message out, its towards the whole community, not just people in the Rezound forums, know what I mean. Didn't mean to sound like a smart Alec ='(.

Yeah, I considered putting this in the over all general forum, but I am seeing so much craziness here in the Rezound forums that I thought it was needed here the most. I might throw it up in the Android general section if you guys think I should.
I love this phone, but I am getting impatient for root.
It is mostly the battery life issue. I hate extra batteries with a passion and hate needing to charge during the day as well. I am a light user, I just game a few minutes during breaks, send a few messages through the day and a few random things here and there. I really only have a smartphone for the convenience that it brings and the fact I like the Android OS and followed it since early 2007. With my MT4G even on a heavy use day (for me) I would have 40% left when I went to bed and charged, usually it was around 60%. With the larger screen and dual cores, I don't expect the same, but I know it will be better with cyanogenMOD on it. I can get through the day, but just barely, and that is on my lightest days.

[Q] Female Developers

Are there any??? If so, what's the ratio you think? Also, I see guys rooting their girls/wives phones, but I've only seen about two females that actually do it themselves. I don't know, just something random that popped up in my head. Lol
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
That's a very good question. I think/hope there are a good number of female developers in XDA and other sites. My guess is that they might use more gender neutral names, which would make it harder for us to notice (a lot like how female authors used to use male pseudonyms in order to make their novels more noticeable). Either way, I for one am certainly interested in finding them.
Me as well. I think it would be pretty awesome to find out any that are. Also, of the work that they do. Females are known for finesse and precision, so I'm pretty sure it would be pretty good...and just for security measures, I'm not in any way, shape or form, trying to be sexist. Lol "D

Person of the female persuasion here.
...though your initial question asked about female devs, of which I certainly am not. This phone was my first smartphone. To answer one of the OP's questions: I do believe in having full rights to the stuff I buy, so rooting was the first thing I did after getting the phone in May. Just took the bootloader + custom rom plunge this month after first reading the hell out of these message boards.
I'm glad to hear that. I wish more females were into rooting. Most of the times, you tell them how cool it is and all the things that you can do and they seem interested (at least in my case) only in being able to change the theme colors and nothing else. Lol

Kinda surprised at the tumbleweed. I'm a developer and a female (simultaneously!).
Is it okay to say that? Now I'm paranoid. Maybe there's something in the Official Women Rulebook of Life that disallows voluntarily revealing our gender. (That thing is way too long and boring and full of emotions, I didn't read all of it.) Policy enforcement agents are probably going to crash through my windows any second now. One of you had better bail me out.

Short answer: I wasn't a guest.
Longer answer: I had a new-ish but valid account, with a couple of thanks on the meter. Until one day it wasn't there. I couldn't log in, my email address wasn't found in the system when I tried resetting my password. So I sent two emails (waiting a couple of days in between) to the forum gods asking about the state of my account, and I didn't hear back. So I just gave up and made a new account, no harm, no foul.
I too am female but no way a developer. That being said, the first thing I ever do to any new phone I get (all moto at this point, first was backflip, then flipside now atrix) is root it. Not to be able to change themes but so its MINE. I bought it, why should I be limited in what I can do with it. I just last month finally got the balls (Haha, ok, the guts) to unlock bootloader and flash. Im no n00b by any means to technology. I started going to college to get my AS in computer science, but life and children stopped me. Im still all into playing with things. Replaced my screen on my atrix already, trying to get the flipside a custom recovery so custom roms can be flashed (which if anyone wants to help, id be grateful! ;-)). Love android, hate icrap.
I am a female, not a developer but an Electrical Engineer by profession, and do all the rooting and modding for myself and hubby.

Ok I LOL'd. Not sure if this would really take off; I've notice most male devs are either 17 years old, married, or with some chick who knows absolutely nothing about what he does. It's hard enough to find a guy who isn't scared to root his device.

time for some change here on XDA

Let's clean this up a bit, shall we?
I get the impression sometimes that we (speaking about everybody here in the 3D forums recently) make this place sort of "unfriendly" with sarcasm and troll posts, rudeness when people post in the wrong section, create duplicate threads, so on and so forth...
First of all, I will say that I am fully aware of my own contribution to this, lol. BUT... i was thinking earlier about when I started out over on SDX and how friendly and eager people were to help me when I was new to the android/Linux scene (although I still had somewhat of a basic understanding of it because of my knowledge of windows, Linux and especially android was a new world to me and much of the knowledge I have picked up since then was simply because people were so willing to offer help and their own knowledge - regardless of "noob" questions (when I simply could have used a search button).
Yeah, for whatever reason you just want to punch people through the computer sometimes when they post in the wrong section or make "hAlp my phonez is teh broken" threads that can easily be fixed with some searching around. But I think we should try to be a little bit more of a friendly and tolerant (and therefore tolerable... ironically) of the things that go on around here.
Anyways, just some dumb ass rant post. But I thought I would share this thought because I feel the action of it could be a positive thing around here.
oouuut.
So, I will be nicer to people. Let's all try this, shall we?
except for freeza.... i am still trolling you.... on a regular basis. lulz

In the Netherlands we always say: there no such thing as a stupid question but only stupid answers.
You hit the nail right ok the head. I joined

If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that since there's been a flood of Android phones hitting the market over the last year and a half or so, there's also a flood of people who come with it. They buy a new Android device, hear about 'rooting' and jump on here. Not everyone knows the meaning of respect, and they expect things to just be handed to them. There's definitely more idiots on here than before, but also just more people overall. No matter where you go, the more people around, the more idiots there will be. It's unfortunate indeed.
I try to be helpful, but it's definitely aggravating when someone just flat out doesn't read a damn thing, and asks a question that's clearly typed in the OP. When I joined, I didn't know ANYTHING about rooting, ROMs, etc. but I read a few things and learned.
There are a few forums that I use that have a n00b section with zero intolerance for the replies to questions in said sub-forum, maybe that would be nice, then we can segregate the n00bs and flame more well-known users for asking stupid things. Lol

Who cares? It's something else to read. That's why most of us are here, for some form of entertainment.

n00bs, on the other hand, don't know ****, they don't give a crap about learning and expecting from others to give all the answers on a gold plate without moving a finger on their foot. This is not OK.
The sooner pseudomoralistic idiots realize this, the sooner will be this place be as it used to be before. If not, I'll continue to troll n00bs for my own amusement and you can kiss my shiny ass.

Yes, the "an answer is easily found by a very fast google search but I'm too lazy to do it or just expect you tell me" crowd is the problem I agree. Even if they are not the majority, when I see a new thread or question that seems like an easy find, I get really mad because I had to take the time to learn and search on my own. I've been on here since 2006 and I guess because of all the new androids out there you get people who are not technologically inclined trying to do technicological things.

first off you wouldnt believe the amount of buttholes and douchebags mods put up with on a daily basis. most often we only get called in when there is a problem, so everyone wants to talk about how things have changed and how it sucks putting up with the idiots. put on mod glasses, i would 75% of the people on here, instead of just reporting a troll or a n00b posting in the wrong spot or a spammer, they in turn flame, troll, spam the person that just needs reporting. so that means, we then have to clean everything back up, figure out who to get rid of and sort the whole situation. its not fun. if you want to see things change, be the change. report posts, dont flame the idiots, dont feed the trolls, just move on with your day. we arent afraid to boot people, we arent about "registration numbers", we are about supporting developers. but we cant be in every thread at once or all the time. if you see something out of place, report it, everyone has that ability. but most of us just return the favor of flaming people.
i became a mod, because i believed that a difference could be made. i reported posts, before i was a mod, i was helpful to people, i tried to teach n00bs the correct way of doing things instead of treating them like trash. yes there is an over abundance of users now due to the influx of android devices, most of the new users dont know anything, and they wont ever learn anything if we all are douchebags to them.
if XDA is becoming something that it wasnt in the past, its because we as a user base are allowing it to be so. be a respectful user, help people out, if someone is doing something they arent supposed to report them. serisously, how are we supposed to know whats going on if we arent notified?
/steps off soap box
I think a large problem too is it really does feel like the mods play favorites. I don't want to bring up the whole Chad.Goodman thing, and how he was reported and pulled in a matter of hours, yet, when he reported other non-GPL complying dev's nothing was done to them. Or my own situation, having important threads detailing hostile actions from one particular user being deleted without any reply or communication from a mod as to why. That user having no repercussion for his actions.. It's really feels that it's not an equal ground forum a lot of the time.

i agree that it may feel like that sometimes, and sometimes mods need to do a better job in communicating. users will not however see everything that goes on behind the scenes. if we infract someone we dont broadcast it, its really no one else's business if i infract you, thats why other users cant see other peoples infractions. if you dont like the way a mod handled something, ask him (or her) how/why they did what they did. dont be hostile about it, just pose a question. i know we are more than willing to talk to users about their issues, and come to the best possible resolve.
