THE GSM AND CDMA RAZR'S BOOTLOADERS HAVE BEEN BYPASSED BY KHOLK & [mbm]!
See here for proof: http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/9231/imag0002b.jpg
Only one core is working, but it's still smooth as hell. Can't wait to see what devs do with it!
Download, source, and screenshots are here!
This just made my day. Gogo Kholk!
That's great news man. :]
Oh my God!!!! Thanks Kholk, you never give up...

He said over on DroidRZR that he was able to successfully run an unsigned kernel on a GSM device (with one core working, but he's working on ironing that out now)!
If you wanna show him some love, you should vote for him in the poll so he can port it to CDMA (Verizon) RAZR's.

i'm glad to not trade my razr for a nexus now hehe!
awesome work kholk you're the one
In my country, there are so many RAZR users who sold their units because of the locked bootloader and opted for NEXUS, but i persist because i have faith, if there is a will, there is a way.....
Go kholk.... If only i can donate, but i am just a student....
OMG...
Kholk really my Herooooooo...!!!!!

holy sh#t on a stick! this is AWESOME news! I can't wait to get some MIUI action going on my RAZR with a custom kernel! Kholk you are an absolute legend in the Android dev scene. I thank you very much. I will never thank Motorola for keeping their bootloaders locked.
hopefully the other devs over at droidrzr will stop flaming kholk and he'll keep up his most excellent work...

I hope he wins the contest and it gets unlocked for our CDMA phones.

Maybe now i will keep the phone, without further developement i would have changed to the HTC one X in the Future...

which requires an unlocked bootloader
As far as I know, neither the X or D2 have an unlocked bootloader or kernel access...

I love the default answer people give to this question. Both are as locked down as this phone.

Not sure, has moto released their source code? Without source from moto it is damn near impossible to make a custom kernel (at least the way i understand it). No custom kernel means no overclocking. Also it seems development on this phone has been pretty limited to newcomers. Once we start getting more experience support, things should take off. Nitro just released his first x2 rom and ThatDudeButch is working on his rom...these two guys alone are great resources but also with Butch we also get TeamBamf support and they can really make things happen. Not to mention, we all saw what p3droid was able to do in about a day. So to sum this all up..I guess we just have to be patient and hope more developers jump on board.
The droid 2 and the droid x can be overclocked because they actually made dev versions of those phones that were unlocked, which afforded a developer a peak under the hood so a kernel module could be written. With root that module can be installed on the locked kernel and over clock abilities are accessible. The X2 had no developer version, no way to write the proper module. Soooooo we're screwed until Moto and Big Red decide to give us the keys to our own phones.

Disappointing to say the least. I have been happy with my rooted GB X2 so far but I still feel so... limited with it. A change to a different brand is surely resurfacing again in my head. Been drooling over the DINC2 for a while now but have been holding strong for the X2 waiting for some kind of miracle soon.
I'd love to see a 1.4-1.5 ghz OC on this bad boy along with AOSP GB D:.

Blame motorola for not making a x2 dev phone, but mostly for encrypting the bootloader keys so well. If we could just get Geohot interested he'd probably have the keys faster than a junkie diving into the pool for a crack rock.

How many times do I have to say that the bionic launch is 5x bigger than the x2's. The x2's development is at its max and thats all its gunna be. Be thankful we have nitro, dragonz and naven.

word broseph.
The attention really wasn't there when the x2 came out bc it really wasn't a big hitter, but whatever, we've got some awesome developers working on roms, themes, etc for us so i'm 100% satisfied with what we got now.
+1 thanks to the devs we have and all that you do

Unless the X2's bootloader gets unlocked, I don't see much more development than what's already been done.
My question still is: Is it just that the bootloader is that big of a pain in the arse, or does 850 dollars really not entice the right people..? lol

Bootloader will only be unlocked by Motorola. No other moto phone has been unlocked without a leak from Motorola. I thought everyone new that when they purchased this phone????

I'm coming from the G2 boards and knew who all the devs are for ROMs and Kernels.
Who is going to be the Devs for the Razr here so I know who to follow the work of?
Thanks,
Frank
BigDX and DroidTh3ory and kholk.
Lots more will probably show up once we get a US SBF.
Don't forget nitroglycerine33.

Thanks guys, good info. I usually do the beta testing for siulmagic and his ROMs. It'll be a new world with the Razr!
Just wondering how many of you would like to see CM come to the X2. I think that Eclipse and Liberty are amazing ROMS, I would just enjoy trying CM out.
I would love to. I flashed it on my Moms Droid Incredible the other day, freaking jealous as hell.
COOL
Hopefully by the end of the year, or early on next month, Moto will unlock the bootloaders so we can have it easier.
Don't see them unlocking the BL. But the great dev. We have here have gotten 2nd init working so it should come soon. Check out the progress in the development section.

CM is in the process of being ported as we speak. Unlocking the bootloader isnt necessary for CM at all.

civiz is right. It will probably never be unlocked unless its by cracking or a moto dev screws up or leaks it. Oh and its Verizon that wants it locked more then Moto
Main reason for unlocking is so the kernel can be customized, such as overclocking and other things. But, unlocking the BL is not necessary for CyanogenMod. As stated, check out the following thread for more info on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380605
I meant the fact that the locked bl is staunting us from having customization faster than we should.

If this April 4th release date is accurate and we do get the update then, are there any developers left to make a great CDMA ROM for this device?
I'd certainly like to see a bare bone version (if it's possible) with odex'd files and other speed tweaks implemented.
Hope I'm not out of line asking this, but I'm a donate regularly to devs that put in the time and hard work.
U should go to droidrzr com there is a good devs for cdma I love my gummy ics lol

There's plenty of action and plenty of devs still... Things have stalled a little because there's only so much that can be done w/ the limitations that moto has us under..
Patience is a virtue.. once ICS is released things will be hoppin' again.
