Might be a stupid question, but I still want confirmation. Where I live there is an Atrix without "4G" in the name. Is it the same, and can it run the same roms as the US Atrix 4G?
Thanks a lot for helpful answers.

The Atrix and Atrix 4G are the exact same phone.
Lol just remember neither are "4G", just HSPA+.
There are only 2 types of atrix. The atrix 4g and the atrix 2. Pretty big difference between the 2 as well.

How different is the Electrify from the Photon? Is it a world phone as well. Does it have the WCDMA band 2100? Would i be able to use it for GSM and 3G in India?

as far as i know electrify is cdma only, it doesn't support gsm networks
Actually it does have gsm

Yup only difference in the photon is the wimax radio. Photon comes with sprint sim, electrify doesn't have anything preinstalled. For giggles I took my sprint sim and put it in my brothers electrify, sadly it didn't really do anything other than pop up a 'sim inserted' notification.

From my understanding if you got a sim card from a carrier in India and put it in the phone it will work. Other than a few carrier specific things they are pretty much the same phone.

So basically, its an inferior version of the Photon. Wonder why anyone would buy it? Is it substantially cheaper?

Its not that it's inferior. US cellular doesn't use sim cards in any of their phones son there is no need for one. Sprint uses sim cards and therefore the photon has to have one to work on their network. Put one in the electrify and activate it and it will work. Not sure of how to activate it though. Other than that and the radio differences their the same phone spec for spec.

From the android central review I think the led actually works right and some other bit of software actually works right.
And sprint does not use sim cards in the us.

Sprint doesn't use SIM cards, they have SIM cards to make international roaming easier. Its a roaming agreement with another carrier so you don't have to buy a card in the country you visit and the international data and voice is just billed straight to your regular bill. Only issue with this is price, its much cheaper to buy a prepay plan where ever you go than use sprints roaming agreements. US cellular sees this fact a chooses to not offer international roaming, only offer a phone that makes it possible.
Like I said the only difference is in the wimax radio, which is useless even in 95% of the US.

Verizon and Sprint don't use simcard. Just take a evo or epic touch and you will see no simcard slot. But some phones have a simcard slot for European traveling. Att t mobile use simcards only.

Sounds to me like its still inferior. I understand the SIM card is only included for convience.
But the Electrify still lacks Wimax supports making it an inferior phone. Why buy an inferior phone? Is there a big price difference?
Have bought one from ebay. Price is cheaper by about $40 to the Photon. Planning to use the phone on GSM, so lack of Wimax does not worry me.They support the WCDMA band 2100, which is the 3G band for all GSM carriers in India. 4G will take an eternity to come to India Does anyone use the Electrify on GSM over here? Does it take a long time to boot like the Photon? If so, is there a work around like for the Photon?
Thanks . . Planning to buy it in India.

Isn't wimax obsolete anyway? Everyone supporting it dumped it and left sprint at the alter. Only a few cities got duped into building networks. My son bought a 3D a few months ago and is upset that he has no hope for any high speed support beyond 3g/ 4g or wifi in less then 5% of US, and that percentage should be shrinking not growing. Its like saying a bluray player is inferior to dual HD DVD/bluray player.
so from what im reading if i understand right even if you live in an area that has 4g for sprint with the electrify you cant use it? so the motorola photon 4g mb855 doesnt connect to 4g? or doesnt connect to sprint carrier?

The Electrify doesn't have a WiMax radio. It has no way to connect to any 4g signal at all. You can be saturated in 4g signal, but it wont make its 3g any faster.
The Photon is only capable of connecting to Sprint/ClearaWire WiMax 4G. No ATT or VZW LTE 4G.

it'd be nice after US Cellular gets 4g we can get the 4g radio put in...b/c I know theres a space for it.

US Cellular starts to roll out 4G early next year, By the time it gets to all USCC Markets the Electrify will be old tech and no-one will want it by then....
Seriously...
Oh I agree with you, uscc is usually slow like that.

Hi
I have the Droid Razr unlocked and working on at&t 3G.
Since at&t is upgrading to 4G soon. Will it work on my phone.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA App
At&t LTE and Verizon LTE are incompatible so your answer is no.
Your only hope would be if somehow the GSM radios are enabled but I would not expect that to happen.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
He seems to have non-US RAZR, judging from the signature.
OP, you will never get LTE on this phone, but HSPA+ AT&T has should work more than well.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
I figures since the network selection only said 2G or 3G.
Thanks for your reply.
I still love it though. Coning from a bad week testing Nokia N9.

Epic fail.
LTE will possibly be achieved on INTL RAZR, by Moto or by us. And as far as I know, LTE is LTE, there shouldn't be any uncompatibilities between an operator or another, but I can be wrong on that.
It should be like saying ATT's HSPA+ is different from H3G ITA's HSPA+.....
Coming from some examinations, the LTE capability is enabled in the INTL RAZR radio (CDMA is disabled). It's only a RIL problem.
Ah, I missed your sig. Disregard my answer.
In the US the RAZR will not be compatible with At&t. Different LTE frequencies as well as CDMA vs. GSM.

This explains the frequency differences between the two networks.

Hi guys. I'm looking for best hardware and software ICS for t-mobile which is unlock able for under $250. Any ideas.
Currently thinking of Samsung S Vibrant unless u guys think of better hardware (higher specs) and software support, meaning ICS already developed on XDA?
Ideas?
i own the galaxy s vibrant, and all i can say is that i love it. But i do not own the 4g. The 4g has very poor development in my opinion. but i love love love my vibrant.

T959 you own? I'm little confused cause on T959 it also says 4G but according to gsmarena it's vibrant. Confused a little.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_vibrant-3416.php
there are two separate phones obviously. i have the t959, i do not know the product number on the 4g. but i do know the 4g is not usually called the vibrant, just the galaxy s 4g
oh, and btw, the 4g has a front facing camera (ffc), thats a good way to tell them apart.

Thanks bro. I was just thinking of the same thing for a reason that It has all GSM quad bands, which T959 does not have (dual only) and Tmobile/europe 3G bands. Nice! It also has ICS out already. Any other ideas guys???

I just bought the Atrix 2 today
Could someone tell me why there is little to no support for ics on the Atrix 2? I thought the hardware was pretty much the same as the Atrix 4G which is the basis for most of the work done on the photon.

The atrix 2 actually has very different hardware. Atrix 1 has tegra 2, and atrix 2 has a TI Omap processor.

Wow thanks! Last time I read anything on the Atrix 2 was before it came out and I swear they said it was going to have the same tegra 2 as the first Atrix and the photon. Do you know anything about this processor? Most of the devs on the Atrix 2 forum are first timers and progress for ics is horribly slow. One of the slowest of any current high end popular phone (that I've noticed). Calling and texting seem to be the only thing keeping it in pre alpha stage.

Ok I just found out what's holding them back. They can't seem to figure out how to unlock the bootloader. Once that's unlocked roms should start flying
Sent from my I9300 using XDA
Same processor as Bionic, RAZR, and Droid 4. Moto tend to go for consistent hardware platforms across multiple carriers and form factors.
Those bootloaders are a *****.

Yea I've noticed lol.
I have one more question then I'll finish off this thread.
They said the calling and SMS not working on cm9 is due to not having an ics radio. I don't understand why the radio would be the issue. Every device I have right now running ics is using a gingerbread radio and the calling and SMS has always worked from the beginning without a ics radio.

This is the closest thing the Atrix 2 has to an ics build. Its a port from the cdma Droid 3. Its extremely early with only 10 pages. From what I've gathered they can't seem to get the rom to work with their GSM radio. I know this isn't the right place to be discussing this considering this is not the atrix 2 and nowhere near related to the Atrix 2 but out of all the phones I've had, the devs and users on the photon seem to be the most knowledgeable. We need someone with knowledge of this sorta of thing to help get this phone going. What steps should they go through to convert the cdma rom for their GSM device? I haven't had sleep in two days so I can't seem to word this right lol so please if you have the time could someone who knows anything about this sorta thing take a look. Just read the first 2 pages. The other 8 pages are just random people asking if its working yet lol.
They seem to have given up for the most part and decided to just wait for a leak of ics for the device which according to Motorola is during the same quarter as the photon. I honestly believe they could have it up and going without the leak. Joker did it with the Atrix and the photon with no Motorola ics support so I know they can do it too for the Atrix 2

So I just imported a Razr Maxx from Clove Technologies in the UK. From all the frequency specs on the Internet, this phone should work flawlessly on AT&T for both 2G and 3G.
However, I am noticing that data is very slow on the device and sometimes says it has no data connection even though the phone is showing HSPA+ and full signal. Am I missing something? Is AT&T not fully supported. Also, the APN setting appears to be set to ATT correctly (wap.cingular).
I really like the phone but the data problems are frustrating.
Thanks,
Brad
were you able to get it sorted out?
I'm planning on buying an international Maxx to use on Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO)
It works but noticed the 2G to 3G switching seemed to freeze the data connection. I changed it to 3G only and its much better. Love the phone.

Mind posting some speed test results ?
Oh, so it drops data when going from EDGE to HSPA?
Have you received any updates on the international model?
Sorry for all the questions
Sure. Give me a couple hours and I will post.
Yes it was going from HSPA and HSPA+ to Edge GSM.
No updates yet but I love it. I actually came over from a GNEX running ICS and don't mind 2.3. I like Motorola's skin.
