How to know if Dell streak has aws band or not - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help,
I am buying a Dell Streak 5 from someone to use with my tmobile sim. The owner said he bought it from Dell unlocked, but does not know if its an aws or regular att Streak. Any way to tell besides plugging my tmobile sim in, cuz the owner wouldn't want to open his brand new box unless I agree to pay first? Thanks.

If he has a retail box, the label for the specific device should say:
Bands: 900/AWS/2100 or
Bands: 900/1700/2100 (I cant remember which)
If the device is turned on, check Settings -> about phone -> baseband, if it ends in -AWS it's the aws submodel, if it doesnt it isnt

Thanks for your help. The owner was able to text a pic of the label and box. It didn't have 1700 band printed on it...definitely the att version. Saved me a lot of time and maybe money

What are the differences between the X10i and X10a?

What are the differences between the X10i and X10a? I know the Canadian version (x10a) has a different radio then the X10i (Europe).
This is the Only Differences I could find.
X10I......... GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100 .................... HSDPA 7.2 Mbit
X10A........ GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS800, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100 ...... HSDPA 10.2 Mbit
Is there else anything that might be different??
As far as i know, no.
Only the 3G frequency which is different in north america (well, only for some carriers).
Rogers, afaik is using 850 so you need X10a otherway no 3G
i think the HSDPA speeds are the same for both, the only difference is one of the 3G bands
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - X10a for Americas
Is there a way to convert between the X10i and the X10a?
Please advise if there is a tutorial link or something.
Thank you for your help.
Regards L
You can't do that.. maybe if you change the Chip..
X10a has 800/850/1900/2100 WCDMA and quad band GSM/EDGE
X10i has 900/1700/2100 WCDMA and quad band GSM/EDGE
'a' uses QSD8650 processor 'i' uses QSD8250
800 WCDMA band if anyone wonders is for DoCoMo in Japan.

X10 in Canada
In this case, for the Canadian market, I believe the X10i is compatible with Wind Mobile (1700), while X10a is with Rogers/Fido/Chatr. Am I wrong?
you are correct, for HSPA rogers, bell, and telus are all on the 850 and use x10a
wind mobile has the same frequency as t-mobile USA so x10i would work. however wind mobile is only available in select very few markets
I have a X10i and can receive 3G on Rogers in Canada. On the side of my box it says UMTS/HSPA Band 1/2/5/6 (Along with the quad band GSM), can someone explain to me what the numbers mean?
odd ...
That's odd because I have a x10i and it says UMTS/HSPA 1/4/8
I also don't know what these numbers mean so basically have the same question.
Where did you get yours from? And are you sure it is a X10i and are you sure you have 3G? Does the data connection icon say "G" or "3G"? I'm asking because based on previous discussion, x10i is not supposed to work on Rogers so I'm very surprised.
Right underneath the bands mine says SV, DA, FI, NO which I believe stands for Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway as their localization codes.
It says 3G beside the signal bar, and here are picts of my service menu:
The service menu says I have an X10i
Here are the bands it supports, the service menu has the same band numbers as on my box:
Bought the phone used for the wife. So can anyone explain the band numbers?, as I am not familiar with SE phones, I have always used HTC
According to the UMTS bands table from wikipedia, those numbers mean 2100, 1900, 850, 800
I can't post the link because I'm a new user and the system doesn't allow me to post the links but if you wikipedia umts you'll find it.
I didn't know different x10i's could support different bands. I wonder if this means a different hardware as well or just a software change. Anyone?
I maybe wrong but I did read of people changing the firmware from the 10a to the 10i this will NOT change the radios.. simple way to check is to look under the battery label as the software can be changed.

I used to have an Xperia X1a, and everytime i did flash a rom, my phone was always a x1i, but was fully functional, what i need to do was copy a simple modelname.txt file to the windows folder with x1a in it, and the phone became a x1a, i think that the model we get on the about screen is from some file on the rom, but what really defines the model is the hardware, not the sticker from behind.
my 2 cents

Thanks for the info! So does this mean that I really have an X10a that had been flashed? Sorry for the newbie questions, but this is the first time for me playing with an Andriod device. In my phone settings "About phone" is says:
Model Number - X10i
Firmware Version - 1.6 (I assume this is the Andriod version)
Baseband Version - 1.0.10
Kernal Version - 2.6.29-rel
Build Number - R1FA010
Is the build number the Andriod release number? ie. like windows mobile, there is wm6 with build 23xxx?
(I have never flashed the phone since I got it)
for changing from x10i to x10a and vice versa but there r a problem Flashing your Xperia X10i to X10a (and vice versa) will result in SEUS not being able to update your phone for future updates

[Q] Help me with my streak, no t mobile 3G signal

I found that I am having a pretty slow internet surfing speed after flsah with Simple Streak ROM 1.2 By Spidla (Thank you, it's a great ROM!!).
Why I can't recieve 3G signal on T-Mobile ? I have 4G plan anyway. Edge really kills me as it only have a speed of 12 KB/s.
Could anyone help me out ? What ROM else could have 3G signal on T-Mobile? Let me know as well ~~~ Thank you guys
It's a Dell retail model (unlocked one, not Att, maybe), T-mbile assistant says that probably my device it's not the AWS model, which support UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100.
My service tag is G85Z1P1.
Your streak is likely the US model and not the AWS model.
That can only get 3g on At&t and not Tmo
I have figured out the problem. I checked that there are people selling AWS model at $750 on eBay, is there anywhere possible for me to get an AWS besides that one? Thank you
You will need to get a AWS streak, really doesnt matter how.
Might be cheaper and easier to try getting one from Cincanatti Bell and unlocking it. I'd assume theirs are new stock. But I cant help you with details since I havnt tried it myself.
If you buy off ebay you'll need to be the judge of price and condition and age of the streak.
Looks like they have the AWS model in stock. But it's hard to get one from Cincinnati as I live in Buffalo.
Maybe try to change the chips or the antenna. It's radiculous as Streak 7 can support 850/900/1700/1900 at the same time. why not our streak.

Because that's how they built it.
Have any body in the world tried Streak 7's Frameware.apk and service.odex on streak ? bricked or not ?
The AT&T Streaks and the ones purchased directly from Dell unlocked do not have the hardware for the T-Mobile bands. So no software will fix that.
What if I use the Antenna and capacitance that can support 900/1700/2100 frequency? ripe some from T-mobile made hardware and soldering them onto the Streak chip board ?
Or, If anyone lives in Cincinati could help me get one from Cincinati Bell.
You'd need to get one off an AWS streak to be sure it's compatable, then there's the issue of weither or not the mainboard will accept a diff radio.
I have tried hard to find someone in Cincinnati could help me out. And also it will be riscky to have a AWS model as ATT is processing buy off T mobile, if they successes, then T mobile 3G will dead and all 3G users will have to exchange their phones(probably only the one has contracts)
Do you know any other carrier in US use 850/1900 for 3G ?

I am not sure why you think that the T-Mobile bands would be dead. I think that in order to take advantage of existing infra-structure new phones after a merger would work on both bands and your existing phone would continue to work as it does now.
check out this link:http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2011/03/21/att-says-t-mobile-3g-phones-will-need-to-be-replaced/
AWS model will only work with T mobile 3G, sucks when traveling aboard.

[Q] Big Problem: AWS streak now says EU no 3G

Well i have a AWS Streak From Cincinnati Bell Carrier locked, i bought the phone from a guy that said he put the Power_Rom on its the 1.2 Build
Its
2.3.4
GAUSB1A134934-EU It should say aws at the end
2.6.35.7-perf
ASK's Power_Rom
1.2
Is their anyway i can change the baseband back to an aws version so i can get 3G or is their no way to do that i did some searching and could find any certain aws baseband versions. And this phone is an aws version phone i had check and verified with cincinnati bell.
Is it unlocked now? that's the only thing that really matters.
Its not unlocked i check when i got home i put in a tmobile sim att sim and and a international version sim and they all say carrier locked and ask to put in a code but it works fine on the cincinnati bell sim but only gets edge
I also checked the apn settings and everything is correct
Well unless you happen to have a cincinatti bell in your area then, it wouldnt matter as it's still sim locked
I dont think you get what im trying to do
I live in cincinnati and have a cincinnati bell unlimited plan 4G/3G
Im just trying to know if i can restore the baseband back to normal to get the 3G back
and if so what baseband could i use? Right now the phone is acting like its an EU
European model on my Streak box it has UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100 And its the
M01M002 so its AWS
Is their a way for me to do this are am i screwed
Oh, I guess I misred it then, as I figured you lived in europe from the title.
You cant change the sub-model, it's physically impossible. BUT 349 is the cincinatti bell rom.
If it were a different rom i'd suggest reinstalling 349, but that isnt an option as that rom has never been dumped (i have no information at all on it except the version number)
When in doubt, install 360 and work your way form there, the files and instructions are on the xda wiki.
If your device is truely GAUSB1A134934-EU then something went terribly wrong somewhere.
I did as suggested and everything went smooth but it still says eu
Is their anyone with an aws update pkg?
And is their a such thing as an aws amss.mbn?
Any help would be great, but I might just sell it and get another streak after tonight.
Basebands dont care about whichever submodel you have.
I cant say what you should do, if you were the original owner i'd say take it to CBell and ask them, but who knows if they'll support a 2ndhand owner.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Q] Can´t enable LTE no matter what.

Hello,
I can not get LTE working with my black Lumia 920.
The phone is supposedly RM-821 global version with pentaband LTE support disabled in firmware. Bought in Vietnam from official retailer and I am using it here in Finland where I live (LTE frequencies 1800 and 2600 are used by my operator). There is no 4G option in settings->mobile network->highest connection speed. I can go to field test menu (##3282+call) -> settings and select 4G only there but as soon as I leave that menu the setting reverts back to whatever it was set before. Also no LTE network is found during the time I stay in the menu.
This issue is driving me nuts.
Here is what I have tried so far with no success resolving the issue:
- Flashing in 8-10 different firmwares/softwares (several different region rm-821 models including finnish) with Nokia care suite.
- Called my operator several times and requested and got a new sim card to rule out the possibility that the problem lies there.
- Called nokia customer care twice and they keep telling me that the phone - for being the global variant - has LTE support on hardware level but it is just disabled in software.
- Checked the APN settings. If I select the access point with access point name for 4G network with my operator I don´t get connected at all. It says 3G in the topbar but network simply doesn´t work.
- Done this all in area where there should be 99,9% certainty for LTE-network availability.
So if anyone can point out something that I have missed or could still try please do. Would be highly appreciated!
You say it has octaband support. Have you confirmed what frequencies it operates at? It is possible that even being octaband versus pentaband that your frequency is not in that phones range. Is there any documentation that says what bands your model supports?

Sorry I mean pentaband ofcourse. It is supposed to support the 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600mhz frequencies.

Now that is out of the way, are you sure that your provider has LTE coverage in your exact area? Not just over all but at your exact location? Also is the signal you get at your location normally strong. If it is not strong enough the phone will drop to a lower band to conserve bandwidth.
you may find that nokia has not enabled it yet, they my do so at a later date by firmware .. the CVBG also do not have 4g working out of the box
I am having the same problem.. I bought a 920 when on holiday in Thailand.. now back home and it will not show 4G.. only 3G... whereas my 820 gets 4G fine...
Its an rm-821... and like the original poster i tried flashing a known 4G firmware onto the phone..
Do they actually manufacture 920s that are not 4G ?? I just assumed they were all 4G.... I guess i was wrong..
Have you try this app and manually set for the LTE? just a suggestion

Flash your RM-821 with the Finnish firmware 059Q917 (1308.1) . It will activate the LTE as it did mine.

Unlock all bands on LG K7 (K330) T-Mobile

Phone : LG K7 (K330) T-Mobile
Chipset : Qualcomm MSM8909 Snapdragon 210 (LTE model)
I tried to follow these guides : http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/guide-unlock-z3c-international-bands-t3091344 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269 in order to unlock all 3G & 4G bands because the phone was bought in US and now I'm in Europe.
The initial state was that phone could only operate at 2G networks in Europe.
I tried several combinations on the enabled bands, like all of them enabled, only the European ones, only a few etc etc but nothing worked. The phone could not detect the SIM at all, or at some occasions it was in a loop trying to connect and was showing the "welcome to <carrier>" pop-up without actually managing to connect to the network/cell at all. Even when all bands were enabled, the phone could not operate even at 2G network (that was initially working).
(I have checked after reboots etc that the new NV values are saved as should).
At all these failing states, the process qmuxd was running continuously at 100% cpu (if this info is at any help)
Now, I reverted it back to US bands, and it operates at 2G
My question is: since the chipset (as mentioned at its specs) can operate at these bands, shouldn't it work? Is there something else I should have in mind, that maybe prevents the phone/antenna from operating at European bands?
Thanx in advance
You have to contact the carrier. T-Mobile 1st to see what options are available to you (since it's a US Phone), and then call your current carrier provider if T-Mobile can not resolve this issue. Hope this helps you.
i have lg k7 ms330
i need help for unlock band umts 900 (b8) of my k7 ms330?
