Has anyone come across a replacement for the volume rocker? Somehow, the top and bottom portions of mine cracked, with the top coming off completely and falling out. Now I can't use the side button to increase volume... and the bottom is still cracked and barely hanging in there. Kinda annoying.
I came across threads with other HTC devices where the user called HTC and they shipped a replacement cover - anyone have an idea if that would work now that I have voided my warranty by unlocking the bootloader?
Anyway, I was hoping to not have to pay $40-$50 for an entirely new back cover (the rest of my phone is virtually flawless), but eventually will if I can't find any other solution. Thanks in advance for any help.

Only one way to find out, just don't tell them anything they don't need to know

If the back is a covered accessory, just call HTC warranty repair, tell them what happened, ask for a replacement. They may ask for the broken part by return mail, so don't chuck it.
Changes to the phone's software are irrelevant to a hardware fault.

eBay 14-20 bucks
Just got a free replacement from htc today, just called and they asked for my serial to check that my warranty is still covered, gonna ship in a few days, all for free.
Unlocking the bootloader voids the software warranty NOT the hardware warranty.
As far as I know, they can't even honestly tell that you have unlocked your bootloader UNLESS you tell them straight up (which you wouldn't).
So just call and ask for a replacement, and you should get one for free.

Hey everyone,
Today my touchscreen/digitizer started acting up on my Atrix. I can't click items in the bottom left corner in a certain area (probably 50px across, 300px high) and it's very annoying (duh). I can't even type properly, as 5+ keys are affected by this.
So I filled out a RMA form on Moto's website...
Here comes the question.. sort of... Motorola says if they find physical damage they will not repair the device and they will return it to me and make me pay for return shipping...
Now, has anyone had any experience with this? (ie Motorola returned their phone and didn't repair it?) The reason I'm asking is because the original digitizer and LCD on this phone broke months ago, so I repaired it myself to save money. That involved me opening the phone and replacing the parts myself. Would motorola see this as "damage"?
On most products you see a "void if removed" sticker, but there are NONE on the Atrix.
Should I just re-do the RMA form and mark is as "physically damaged" and see if they repair it?
Any help this subject in general would be great. Thanks!
All RMA services say this exactly.
If there is no damage to the phone, they will NOT be able to deny you warranty. I have dealt with many companies and many different RMA's. As long as the item doesn't look damaged, they usually give you warranty service.
And with phones, there is a piece of paper with dye in it, when it gets wet it changes colour. If that has changed colour as well they will deny warranty.
Only happens when the phone gets wet though.
Any marks on screws, torn stickers, etc. can be grounds for rejecting warranty coverage. If you burred the screws removing/replacing them, this is the easiest thing to detect. If they are being really anal, they will know you have replaced parts yourself, and your warranty will be void. Sorry, but I'm not going to sugercoat my answer given you are asking a very straight forward question. If any damage is visible/evident, and this does include self repairs, you do risk losing warranty coverage.

Don't have to be sorry about not sugarcoating it. This was the answer I was looking for. Thank you for being clear about it.

There isn't any damage to the phone, but the screws do have marks on them, and little things like that. Actually, I think one of the screws is missing inside from the repair I did.
I'll probably be selling it "as is" on ebay/craigslist based on this information.
My warranty is based out of the USA (and I'm in Canada) so when Moto is done with it, it's being returned to a small business in the states who will hold it for me. However, if Motorola decides to charge me for return shipping based on the fact it's out of warranty, the business will probably not accept the charges. Then UPS will have my phone..
Thanks for the quick replies though!
On the other hand, you may get lucky and they just send a refurb out soon as they receive your phone.

So, I got a really bad luck. My phone never fall on the street when I use the case; just when I take off the case, it fell down and cracked my screen on the bottom right near the Search button. It's still functional and the crack is not really bad, just kind of annoying when I realized that there's a crack there (not that noticeable for me, literally only a small piece of the screen on bottom right that got cracked)
So, I am just looking through my options here. I left my phone in stock condition because I don't want to void the warranty; but now that it's cracked, ....
Should I just root my phone, play with it, and deal with the small crack?
Or, if I left it in stock condition and change the glass, will I be able to claim warranty (in case anything happen)?
Or should I just get a new phone on CL? (like HTC One S maybe )
Any suggestion is welcomed

All depends on how much work you want to do and/or money you want to spend.
If you replace the screen yourself you'd have to remove "void" stickers and you know what that means as far as warranties go.
SOOOOO...
1) If you have insurance, you can replace the entire phone for $130.
2) If you don't have insurance, you can replace the screen yourself since it wouldn't matter if you void the warranty. You can buy a screen from eBay for about $30 or so.
Screen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digitizer-T...949?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c630ce6e5
Screen replacement video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA4JToM5uxA
Personally: My screen cracked and I've toyed with the idea of replacing the screen myself. Since I have insurance and I replace my phones a lot I didn't want to void my warranty so I decided to go through Asurion. For $130 I received a new phone, new casing, new battery and a new charger. Basically, I now have double of everything (except for phone since I had to return the cracked one).
Breakdown:
Per T-mobile's site:
Battery = $30
Charger = $15
Battery Cover = $20 (per ebay)
Total = $65 in Accessories
Cost for new phone = $65
Doing the replacement I got about $65 worth of accessories on top of a new phone for $65. Not too bad compared to just buying a new phone.
Bottom line, it all depends on you and what you're willing to do/spend. Don't worry about rooting until you make the decision to keep or replace your current phone.

OMG . i didn't know replacing the screen myself will void the warranty... -_-" plus after looking at the video for 2 mins. i will decline to the idea of replacing it myself
I bought the phone off CL about 2 months ago (FOR $230 !! ); so, I don't think it has any insurance. Can I still get an insurance at this point?
If I can't, I guess I will either live with it; or sell it and get another phone
Thanks for the reply!! Those info really helps me

It never hurts to try to add insurance. The worst they can say is no.
Call HTC its 145 to have the screen replaced and they will extend the warranty out for a yr.

Really? So they're willing to change my cracked screen and add another year of warranty? I bought the phone off CL so there's no insurance, and i thought warranty normally doesn't cover this kind of damage.
Although after usibg the phone for a couple days, i realized that he crack is really not bad at all... Just get annoying sometimes. Lol.

Dude I'm there wth u! Got my water damage amaze (no warranty ) off CL. Phone worked great til I dropped it. With red water damage mark and cracked screen I had nothing to lose so I took it apart. I have to say its the easiest phone I ever worked on. Just so u know the digitizer is glued to the LCD so getting em apart is the tricky part. If you have the $130 or even $145 option available that's the way to go. The cheapest I've seen the pre assembled digitizer/LCD part is $115 so if you decide to take yours apart be careful separating digi from lcd ! You will need hair dryer.

Just wondering... is the replacement brand new or refurb? The crack wasn't that bad imo. So, getting a refurb doesn't sound like a very good idea to me (it might have some functionality problems).
Here is the pic of the crack on the phone... Since I bought the phone from CL for 230, paying extra 145 doesn't sound too good for me (it's 70% of the phone price in my case!!!). Anyway, thanks for the replies
They were supposed to replace the screen in my phone, but a few days after I paid for it htc called me and said they didn't have any parts and asked if I'd be Ok with a new unit.. Or wait like 3 weeks for parts... So i got a new unit. But they shipped only the phone. On a side note I had a problem a couple weeks ago with the aluminum coming off from around the camera, called htc explained the problem. They asked what color I wanted, told them white. Got the new back opened it was black, called htc told them they shipped me a white one and told me to keep the black one... Sweet. I'm in the middle of a project for my gf, painting the aluminum on the original baxk green for her, it was relatively easy to take apart the back. Stay tuned for pics coming soon....

Hmm by phone only you mean they only give you the phone without everything else right? That sounds like a refurb replacement to me...
Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I think I will just use my phone as is and root it someday. I am starting to get used to that small crack. lol
So on the 200th time I droped my Amaze, the screen cracked. I have Asurion insurance and filed a claim online and they are sending me another Amaze (for $130). This is fine because I like the phone, my contract is up and I plan to get another phone once I find something I like (most phones out now dont seem like much of an upgrade). I plan to keep the replacement Amaze as a backup and quit paying for the insurance. My question is: do I just need to send the phone back, i.e. can I keep the battery as a spare? Also, I am rooted and S-off running CM10. I dont plan to do anything to return the phone to stock. Is this a bad idea or does it not matter?
I sent in my Atrix a while back because of a dead spot in the digitizer. It came back with a new digitizer and seemed fine until the screen started coming up on the edges. It's almost like they didn't put the adhesive down good enough. I got tired of the screen coming up like it did (Felt spongy and annoying to use) so I got a tag from a shirt and stuck the corner of it into the mic and went all the way around until the screen was free. I put in little drops of super glue to hold the screen down, but I somehow screwed up the ribbon cable and the digitizer no longer works. I checked to see if I could send it in again but it's completely out of warranty. Is there any way I can blame it on them and get them to fix it even if it's out of warranty? Or am I just going to have to buy a digitizer and do it myself? Thanks.

Once you tried to repair it yourself your warranty was gone. Best bet is to order new parts and pay a pro to install.. unless you would like to try it yourself.

you say its 'compltely out of warranty'... are you referring to the warranty running out or the fact you've attempted self-repair?
If you mean that the warranty has run out, the repair that moto did has a seperate warranty and you could try sending it back (conveniently forgetting your bodge job).

ATT gives you 90 days or the previous warranty time, whichever is longer when you do a warranty return / repair.
if your going to attempt self repair get a digitizer with the bezel already attached, I don't want to think about scraping the digitizer off that is attached with superglue.
So on my way from the car to the train station this morning, I managed to drop my phone on the ground.. I've dropped it a couple of times before, and nothing had ever happened.. but this time as soon as I dropped it I knew I wasn't getting that lucky this time. Maybe its the freezing temperatures, I don't know.. but my screen now has massive spiderwebbing in two of the corners, and cracks running all over the screen. The last day to do returns for the holidays (which is when I bought it) was January 15. I also didn't get insurance.. am I screwed? :/
I have seen operable cracked screen DNA's go for about $300-400 on eBay. In the long run you could do that and then buy one second hand without a cracked screen for about $450-$500, so in reality a $100 screen replacement
You could also have a shot yourself here. The internals don't look very hard to be honest
You can get some ideas here also
Contact a HTC repair centre first and maybe it works out cheaper?
Good luck

Thanks for the information! I'm not sure how much I trust myself taking apart my phone, but I may not have another choice. HTC RMA is asking $220, and it would take 7-10 business days (not including shipping).. I may potentially buy the screen shown in your link and try to do it myself. Although it says "Digitizer Touch Screen", it would only be the glass I'd be replacing, correct? The capacitive layer is still working perfectly fine, so I don't want to mess with that..

It would be the entire assembly you're replacing, it all comes as one unit rather than the glass and digitizer separately. From what I've seen from the pictures of the disassembled DNA, it doesn't LOOK as though it would be terribly difficult.

My thoughts exactly. Just make sure all of the cables are the correct length on the eBay items. (I have received 2 screens for 2 different models that had short flex cables) and I tried to force one of them and it snapped, the other one the guy said they were all the same so he refunded me. You could check if any other eBay users that have purchased them have left positive feedback too.
It would be awesome if genuine dealers were entitled to sell the screens but they are OEM and only to be installed by a qualified repair centre. LAME HUH!
However, DNA looks pretty basic and you could always post pictures of your progress and get some help from us guys if you get stuck Good luck guy
Hey everyone,
So today I noticed that the black rubber that is under the battery flap of my phone is starting to peel off. It isn't too terrible yet, but I do use the waterproof feature of my phone regularly and I don't want to jeopardize my phone if this peels off. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement cover? I checked eBay and didn't have much luck so I am hoping some of you guys may know of another site that supplies the OEM parts.
Thank you!

Yeah a common thing on these phones (USB cover door). I have not found any yet either, AliExpress had some but were pulled or ran out (just checked again they are back now, so AliExpress has them again --

I had to take my (wife's phone as well) phone back to VZW and get a replacement phone due to this. If your phone is within the one year warranty go to VZW store and show them they will get you another phone.
I did a test and if you apply a tiny amount of Vaseline on the seal it will work better as well as make a more watertight seal, just lightly coat the rubber seal, good idea to do all doors like that, I have a product called "dielectric grease" that works even better, use sparingly, can get at auto parts store.
So glad this is an easy purchase if I need it. Thanks.

Agreed, Sony should let people have access to their supplier. But then again Sony is greedy and wants the revenue from out of warranty repairs.

Thankfully, I was raised in an Italian household and in Europe, the comma replaces the decimal point. So if something was say $3.50, in Europe, it would be written $3,50.
I did try to order one and to no surprise, they are out of stock. I did find a set of them on eBay though.

I found the USD currency price at top of page next to the language selector. Says 6.45 - 5.24 USD, there is a difference in USD and EU prices.
Glad you found one on Ebay.

When you get your next refurbished device just remove the flap that you need from it. Just be careful when pulling it out and hold the white connector ribbon really good so that your fingers don't slide down it and rip the cover off (from the white piece).

You know I thought of that, but just to darn honest to do that.
Life sucks sometimes for being that honest, but I sleep well at night.

There's nothing dishonest about that at all. They are sending you a replacement phone expecting to get one back without a flap, correct? I bet they would even give you permission if you explain that you aren't happy with the quality of the refurbished devices. The flaps are easily interchangeable without any repercussions.

I agree with your logic, and I know the door is easily removed and replaced I have removed and replaced it on my phone several times. The phones are tagged with an identifying number and I bet VZW would be able to detect any deceit, would VZW care? Who knows?

No worries man. I'm glad there are still honest people out there with a conscience. I would suggest you to ask them though so there is no question about what you are doing. I'm fairly certain that they will allow you to. I would ask technical support rather than a normal CSR though. They seem to have more information. I've asked similar questions about refurbs and they are usually willing to do what it takes to make the customer satisfied (within reasonable limits). No harm in asking right?

Thanks for the ideas, no sweat off my back yet VZW is the one footing the bill for postage on the refurbished phones.
Got one!
I got a new flap off ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131518465518?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I received it in 9 days and carefully compared it side by side with a genuine one on a new phone and it appears the replacement is identical and genuine

Wow, pricey huh?
Yeah the price has gone up from $9 since I purchased, but still totally worth it. I got some wireless chargers and am only going to use those from now on.
