Credit deposit - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I would like to know if anyone here can point me in the right direction to hopefully get it lowered.

Many corporate at&t stores have the ability to submit for a deposit to be lowered or waived. They will need proof of an existing cell phone in your name, in most cases, and a print out from that cell phone company showing last 6 months or more of payment history to prove you pay your existing cell phone bill on time. Then a waiver or lowing can be processed with approval.

Out of curiosity.... How much is your deposit? I remember quite some years ago I app for sprint, verizon, and att.. Att wanted 800 deposit, and verizon wanted 1200. Sprint offered 150 n That's what I went with. Had very bad credit then.
Heck even now my credit scores below 550 but above 500 and both verizon and att approved me with 0 security. Needless to say I was shocked.

We don't have that ability in my district anymore. Deposits are set in stone, though it may not be that way everywhere.

They want 300 per line. I just don't get why they need a deposit for each line. My credit score is in the low 500.I did have some trouble with a car loan because of being laid off 4 years ago but its been closed out for 3 years. I have not had a cell phone in my name in 10 years. Everytime I apply for something i get denied for not enough revolving credit history. I've never been able to get a credit card and I'm 32 years old.

Sprint raising ETF? (Rumor )

So after sprint being one of the lowest ETF for 200$ it looks like they might changed that next month , what you guys think ?

I saw a nice EVO 4G in my area with several TPU cases and extended batteries for $300 obo, its tempting to grab it.
As for the OP, I assume its a sign of the economy and people not paying their bills.
I thought the government capped early termination fees last year. I don't know what it was capped at, so maybe it doesn't apply...
I got my 3d by adding a new line and trading in my shift at radio shack. Had the line put on seasonal hold and someone ducked up and removed it off my account lol. No eft for me lol

I wouldn't care if Sprints ETF was $5000.
It wouldn't matter, because I'm not leaving Sprint, solely because of the unlimited data plan. If I were with a different carrier and had to actually PAY EXTRA for all those GeeBees???......
I would be one broke-ass b%tch.

Maybe by raising the ETF, they will reduce their losses regarding those that are taking advantage of the system. Hopefully, they'll pass some of those savings onto us or invest them into their network infrastructure. I was hoping that they'd upgrade their infrastructure with the $10 per month premium data fees but haven't seen it in my area.
My girlfriend got the HTC Hero less than a month before it was discontinued. There have been some updates that have bogged her phone down fiercely. Especially the newer updates to google maps. Her navigation wouldn't last more than a few minutes before FC'n. I was able to cancel her contract and get her a new phone for a reasonable amount of cash.
I would hope that they do not slap a static higher ETF on every phone and instead look at each phone individually. It wouldn't have been reasonable for her to have had anything more than a $200 ETF on her phone. Although I'm surprised that our Evo 3D's don't have a higher ETF and wouldn't be upset if they were.
The 30 day sprint guarantee is a great program and should be adequate time to know whether you want to be locked into a contract with them or not so the ETF is usually a non-issue with typical subscribers.
And as for not caring what the ETF is... I guess you guys weren't with AT&T when they got the Iphone. I was locked in my contract for another year and my bandwidth was horrid. It wasn't until Verizon got the iphone that they bothered to upgrade their network with all that iphone money they had been collecting for years. You never know how sprint service in your area may change in the future.

If this is true, it is likely to be put in place to lock in those users who switch to Sprint for the iPhone 5 + unlimited (and slow) data.
________
HTC EVO 3D @ 1.7GHz running silverneedle kernel and viperROM

So let's see here, in the last week Sprint:

* Doubled their ETF to $350, and the activation fee to $36; removed activation fee promos.
* Cut the trail period in half to 14 days (from 30).
* Canned annual phone upgrades.
* Killed off the Sprint Premiere Rewards program.
Next up is no more discounts on family plans (already cut from all lines to the first two), and data throttling.
And they're basically scrapping Wi-Max to start building out their LTE network...2 years behind everyone else.
They just went from okay-for-the-price, to worse than AT&T/Verizon within a week. I've had it with 25k-150k 3G speeds and shi*ty ass 4G that's the same fing speed as AT&T's 3G, and that's if I'm within eye sight of the tower.
Unfortunately, it appears to me like they are cutting costs for the purpose of making themselves more attractive to potential buyers.
i went to at&t and can't be happier speeds are great an so is the call quality . and my plans saves me 60 a month

Possibly. They need to stop sponsoring every event in sight and fix their network.
While driving home from Lake Tahoe, though NV this Summer, I drove by some raceway outside of Carson City 50 miles with Sprint signs plastered all over it...do you think I even had service there? No.
its all the iphone 5 fault lol
I came to Sprint last year for the Evo 4G and the fact they had a lot of benefits...the same benefits they seem to be scrapping now.
I'll wait a few months to see how things pan out, but I think they really to stop getting rid of the good things that seperate them from AT&T and Verizon, especially being that the data service is becoming inconsistant.

Well, yeah, it is, but that's what I'm getting this next time around...but I'm to the point where I'm willing to pay $40 more a month for data speeds that are actually usable, so I might as well switch to ATT or VZ, since Sprint no longer offers any incentives to stick around.
Strange I switched to Sprint 2 months ago and my activation fee was 36 dollars, every other company always waived it because I'm in the military. I find it strange because you're telling me it changed in the past week, did I just get shafted?
Edit: I didn't mind paying activation fee seeing as how they saved me about 70 dollars on my plan.

I agree that all the changes suck really bad for us. I don't understand why wireless carriers discourage users from upgrading their cell phones every year If cell phone manufacturers are going to be making new, top-of-the-line phones every 6 months, then what purpose does it serve to restrict a customer from upgrading? In regards to your comment about wimax being scrapped, I live in Arizona, where there is practically no 4G service in major cities, including Phoenix (6 towers total). I have complained almost non-stop to Sprint about their lack of 4G coverage in Arizona, and to my shock they are actually turning on more towers in the Phoenix area. At the start of 2011 there were only 2 towers in Phoenix. So, although the wimax rollout has slowed down significantly, Sprint and Clear are still turning on 4G wimax in markets that desperately need it.
How many forums are you going to repost this in? Just post it on sprints forums ffs

well every good thing as we all know must come to an end at some point. Although im not dead set on changing carriers just because of this, i will see how things pan out with the 1x and 3g upgrades and how the iphone affects data bandwidth availability. Yes most r speculating that it will kill the network but only time will truly tell. As for wimax, most of the early promoters of 4g expected that lte was gonna be dominant in the end and good for sprint that it's basically just a base station software update. Yea sucks for wimax phone owners but hey it is wat it is... in my opinion, i don't expect any companies that i pay for a service to give me anything above and beyond what im actually paying for which is just the service. If they do that's an attractive bonus but i expect that it will prolly cease to exist one day. Sprint doesn't have to give us unlimited data but they choose to at the moment to attract more subscribers. However if that prospect becomes to costly at the demise of their network from overloads then they will remove that option plain and simple. Business is business at the end of the day and money talks.
Its cute that you think data throttling is next up when its already happening. hurrdurrr

Also the one of the 2 largest points behind the shifts is to "keep" it that way.

Just got Ford employee discount!

Just wanted everyone to know that if you work at a car dealership, chances are you can get a discount.
I had called retentions to see about getting a discount due to the contact changes. I didn't get a discount for that. However, I did get a credit for the towers in my area being up and down due to "network upgrades"... Hopefully this is due to them getting ready for rev b... The rep didn't say what it was for.
Anyway, he asked if I knew of any employee discounts from my work. I told him that I am a salesperson at a Ford dealership and that we have 7 other dealerships with a total of 16 new car franchises. He then checked every one. I ended up taking the Ford discount because it was a whopping 23 percent!!!
Just thought everyone would like to know that. I'm pretty sure everyone that works at a dealership can get this, from general managers to cashiers.
If you do work at one check it out. I told him that I didn't have an email address for it and he didn't really care. Just sent it to my personal email.

They really are getting out of hand with this already. Granted they have the best service by far, especially for me coming from Sprint, who had no 4g at all here, but come on already. Opinions seem to indicate that this is a result of people paying late, and Verizon is trying to force them to enroll in autopay, but come on. If someone's more than a day or two late, turn their phone off. Don't punish everyone for the actions of a few.

I have never been late, my first year I didn't want to be late because I didn't want to be screwed and lose my deposit, lol.
I heard this a few days ago. It really seems crazy to me, but this decision was far above my pay grade. I have auto payment set up so it doesn't matter to me, but still seems a bit much. One thing I did see though, and we will see if it is true when this rolls out, but if you have auto payment you can pay early with a different payment method and it will not take out of the account you have set up for automatic payment or charge the fee. Again, we will see if it really is that way once this rolls out.
Makes a lot of sense, the one method that must cost Verizon the most manpower to process, that's the free method. I understand that they have to make money, but it's far less insulting to just jack up the bill by 2 dollars and say "look, we need more revenue". Rather than say "hey, the two ways that we've been trying to encourage you to pay for the last few years is now going to cost you unless you give us unrestricted access to your credit card or bank accounts, but hey that really inconvenient and wasteful method is still free". Right, so when there's a billing error or some other problem with charges, they can take the money regardless and then you can fight with them to get it back if you're lucky. No thanks.

Online bill pay is the way to go with anything. Its free, normally done electronically for fast and on time processing, easy payment tracking on One secure site, proof payment was made on a third party system and last but not least can also set as automatic payments using your banks system.

I'm filling a complaint because of this. I get paid once a month, one day before my bill is due. If they force this autodraft restriction it will cause me to overdraft my account as most autopay scenarios take the money out 3-5 days before the bill is due. I've already had Verizon move my billing date up once, I doubt they will do it again. This is just wrong of them.

At&t unlimited data throttling ?

Hi, I have a unlimited data and f-in At&t throttling after 2 gb. What is the point of this man. This phone companies think we are stupid, calling it unlimited and throttling after 2 gbt's. And the government doesn't see this that they are lying to people.
I ordered the galaxy note for 299 once I recive it I'm canceling my account and f them not paying anything.

No I will unlock it and use it. Or sell it .
And I'm not going to pay the early termination fee, if they can change their policy every time they want, I can change my policy too f m.

As you use your t mobile SGSII phone...and once they lock the IMEI? It will be a $299 brick! Just a thought, you might want to think through your plan...to bring ATT down.

They don't throttle if you are on an unlimited plan unless you are in the top 5%. I had a customer last month who used 28GB in one month streaming netflix all day every day. Needless to say he was being throttled. They actually put a code on your account if you are being throttled that any rep can see and they send you an automated text message. So it is not a surprise, so unless you got this text then you are experiencing slower speeds for some other reason.

I've downloaded 8gigs in a month before without being throttled.
If you're leaving AT&T, you have these options:
Verizon. Basically the same as AT&T except a few dollars more. No unlimited data. They throttle.
T-Mobile. Crappy coverage. Less expensive. Throttles you after 2 gigs.
Sprint. Crappy coverage. Unlimited data with no throttling, but it's only a matter of time until their customer base grows and their network has to stop unlimited and start throttling. You'll be in the same position eventually with crappier coverage.
Random bad credit carrier: Good luck with that.

The term "unlimited" doesn't specify a speed.

Which APN would that be? I'm going to be coming from an Inspire so if there's a specific LTE one, that would be good to know.

If it really bothers you, then switch to the 3gb data plan.
If it bothers you even more, file an official FCC complaint. Many people already have.
We throttle the top 5%. The top 5% varies per market. I regularly pass 10gb and I have had no message on my personal account.
And think about what your other options are.
-2gb on T-Mobile
-Limited LTE data on Verizon, same as us. (they throttle too)
-Sprint - sure you get unlimited. but they have the slowest data out of all the carriers
So we have to bend over and take it? That's what we are doing now.

So your saying anybody that uses more then 2-3 gbs is in the "top 5%"? I just got the text that I'm approaching the top 5% and I'm just over 3gbs. I agree with the OP it's a load of BS if I sign up for something that's labeled unlimited it should be unlimited. I think its BS that they throttle it so low most apps like YouTube wont even work right. And for the government stepping in that'll take some REAL change in government, there is to much money changing hands in politics for real change to happen and get rid of the corporate government take over. I can't believe for one second that only 5% of at&t customers use less then 2gbs a month. If they started throttling at like 10 or so i would have no problem but after 2-3 they want us to get rid of our unlimited and go to a tiered plan so they can charge a crap ton of money and line their pockets just like the rest of the corporate greed out there!!!

File an FCC complaint. All the carriers have awful data plans.

The amount at which you get throttled varies per market.
And I disagree with it too. It sucks.
The fact that you say that it varies from market to market sounds like its very ripe for abuse on their part. I can't see how it could be justifiable to throttle me at a little over 3gb when you are using over 10 a month. Sounds like you know an end around the very system you work for. It all boils down to corporate greed and the fact that we in the USA have let companies like this get away with so much for so long that its just 2nd nature and everybody wants to say its the consumers fault.

I had a text 1 day before my cycle ended saying I am approaching the top 5%
Now you ask how much data I had used do you.... 1.5 gb
Now that is complete horse sh*t
Guys verizon does not currently throttle LTE customers, they do throttle 3g.
as for the APN tricks...we are noticing on the Skyrocket forum that for many it is not working any more.
The best you can do is continue to call in and have the specific throttle call response center note your account of any issues you are experiencing while throttled (i.e. I was throttled for 8 days during my last billing cycle and no web pages would load, text messaging stopped working, the market gave no connection errors, mms was not working at all) so that they know this is doing more harm than simply limiting speeds.
That and file a SPECIFIC FCC complaint. So far FCC complaints have done nothing but initiate a contact from ATT that this is the new policy.
The major problem is that as the throttle policy continues, the top 5% will drop as people use less data. This and the fact that the call center uses the consumer calling in to complain as an opportunity to have them switch to a tiered plan, on which they will not be throttled.
The given response is intended by ATT to be
1. The throttle policy is intended to be a temporary solution to the evergrowing need for growing spectrum and the currently congested network.
2. For immediate relief one can use wifi when available and one does have the option of changing to a tiered plan, which is not throttled.
Is it BS, yes, but it is what it is.
I did the math and we are better off staying with ATT right this moment.
Our six lines of service would cost much much more on any other carrier. In my case I could actually switch to the 5 gb plan and use 3gb over and still pay less than at the competing carriers.
How is the amount in the top 5% determened? I got my line way back in the day when smartphones were taboo and not "trendey" and it was known as cingular. I didnt half to pull matrix hack to get teathering. The software was on the disk and the instructions were on the owners manual. Why are long time customers have to be restricted now? I got my unlimited plan because I want and can make use my data. I got trottled only after two to three day in the billing cycle. I stream spurs basketball on nba league pass moble which would jusiffy getting such a plan. Why do I need to pay for wifi when I already paying for the use of unlimited data? Wifi is for the customers that need to ration thier limited data.
My brothers what can we do seriously to damage At&t for BS ing us. Tomorrow the can say anyone using 100 MB is top 5%.

I'm not sure I want to damage the company responsible for providing my network coverage. And if you cause me to have a dropped call I will eliminate you
