Please tell me this can be fixed! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I don't even know what to call this... if It can't be fixed I'm taking this phone back and getting an SII immediately.
Basically when tapping your fingers on the screen near each other it will randomly think you're touching somewhere in between those two points, like how it did on old single-touch resistive touchscreen. It makes it complete HELL to type on when using the portrait keyboard.

And obviously if yours isn't doing this please do tell!

Not sure if mine is doing this, but i do have problems with the keyboard. Put it off as being my fat fingers but never had that many problems with my thrill. Is there a screen sensitivity option in settings?
Sent from a Galaxy far, far away!

I seem to have good days and bad days. No problems typing, even typing fast. Then other days it will contantly mis-interpret my presses resulting in garbled words. Like you I thought it was just me with fat thumbs.

I couldn't get the S Note app (that is what you're showing, right?) to multitouch at all, only got input when I tapped with one finger.
Multitouch Tester in the market I got 6 input points, maybe could do more but I was running out of fingers

Does it do it only when typing? How about on a drawing app, does it do it then? If only on the keyboard then the first step is to download, enable, use a new keyboard and see if that helps.

Does it only happen when you have it plugged in and charging? That happened to me and it baffled me until i realized it only happened while i was charging it. Ended up being the wall adapter. I used a touch screen test where it shows all the inputs and it was just pressing everywhere. I dont know what the wall adapter has to do with the touchscreen but it was 100% certainly causing the issue.

It could be the app trying to "ignore your wrist" and only allow for "pen input" this is what some apps do for the iPad...

Yes but it does it while I'm typing in any app. I'd try to take a screenshot of it doing it while typing but that would be nearly impossible.

Seriously is anyone else experiencing this? just pull up your keyboard in portrait mode in something and tap the "F" and "H" key with each thumb, it will randomly think you're hitting "G"

Stylus....Fhfhfhfhfhfhfhfhfhfhfhfhfgfhfhfgfhfhfgf

I am no good with measurements but the pen is barely off the screen but it registers it as a g
When this happens are you using your pen or hands...you may have a defective pen. ..or yor screen is too sensitive.
That or you just are not very accurate
Is there a screen protector or case on the phone? Have you tried any other keyboards from the market.
If it is happening with the pen this is a known issue discussed in another thread....there is supposedly an update rolling out to correct it

I'm using my fingers with the default Samsung keyboard.

Confirmed. Does not matter which keyboard I use. In S Memo I can consistently create "lines" by tapping two fingers close to each other. I tried turning XT9 and/or Keyboard sweeping on the Samsung keyboard makes no difference.
It seems like if I rotate between the two keys faster than 200ms, it detects the key in-between.

I do notice the same thing. It is more noticeable if you open a keyboard and hit two letter next to each other as fast as you can or even two letters with one in between it will get confused and not know what is going on.
For instance:
F+H hhhffffffhfffffhh
It missed probably 30 letters going full speed.
G+H hh
It missed all but 2 out of approximately 50
Q+P qpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqp
Didn't miss a beat.
It does seem to have some problems with input that is close together.

Up until you pointed it out though i hadn't noticed it being an issue so as far as my use goes it isn't an issue. I type pretty fast and its able to keep up with me with only the occasional funky auto correct.
My only complaint with the phone is the accuracy and lack of sensitivity to the s-pen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I saw a few posts in the intl Note forums about sensitivity issues that were addressed in recent updates (mid-late Feb). Between this and the s-pen, looks like there is a more general problem not about the s-pen at all, just overall responsiveness that's more apparent when using the pen.

Makes sense, there is obviously a calibration and sensitivity issue going on. I wonder if it has to do with the screen size without the tablet Android OS. I'm not an Android dev though so I'm not sure how that all works.
I really need to start doing phone development so I can contribute around here. I already do windows, Web, database, and iOS. Adding Android would be fun

So you guys think this is a hardware issue? or is it software than can be fixed? I'm so close to just returning my Note before the 30 days is up and exchanging it for an SII or an SII Skyrocket... or god forbid an iPhone 4S...

[Q] Touchscreen for writing

Hi guys!
Got my Transformer Prime about 2 Weeks ago. Nice Device. Fast, smooth and good looking!
But i`m looking into using a stylus for notes in pdf documents. I have invested in a Jot Stylus Pro which is said to be the best passive stylus on the market. It works nice on the Ipad2 and ok on the HTC Desire.
On the Transformer Prime I got alot of dead spots. With root and TouchscreenTune i was able to fix that. but the wobbly lines kill every productive energy I got.
Having such a good Atmel Touchsensor i thought the TFP should have got rid of the wobblyline problem.
is there a fix? Is the Ipad the only device that gets it right? Something Android would be sooo nice! I really dont want to write every word in the size of the TFP`s full screen.
Or will the Atmel Active Stylus be on the market soon? Did anyone try that yet?
Thx guys!
found this a second ago... Active Stylus will not work with TF201! In the first answer the guy says that it is a hardware incompatibility! And as we see with other things...
Asus will probably not unlock bootloader... so there is no chance to work around... Asus has no interest in helping us... I hope they learn something out of this.

Have you tried playing with Settings->Filter Off value in TouchScreenTune (top right corner button)? You have to check Disable filtering box before changing that value, and after changing hit Apply button.
People have reported, that by choosing correct value, wobbly lines effect could be minimized.

No.
It is not possible, not even with TouchScreenTune, to correct or minimize the wobbly lines.
To verify. Set the width of the linedrawing tool to minimum. Place a ruler on the screen at an angle of 45 degrees. Slowly while applying even presure draw a diagonal line along the ruler (preferable using a stylus). This will produce a wobbly line.
I tried almost every notetaking or drawing program and almost every tweaking tool available. Unfortunatly to no avail.
I have asked Gary whether this is a hardware or software issue waiting on the reply.

Same in here. As a result of many positive and praising reviews about the jot pro, I've gone ahead and bought one. It was a huge disappointment because of too much skipping issues. I am wondering if there is another stylus that may work with TP fine for handwriting.
I'm interested in this thread.
Hopefully someone can post the best settings for TST. I've tried 30 and 85 for sensitivity and flickering, but I'm still not impressed.
C'mon T'former and Jot Pro.
Pretty sure s/w can fix it, but I don't know for sure.
Red is slow, even pressure with my stylus.
Green is quicker, even pressure with same stylus.

I think this is just capacitive screens in general isn't it, the way it tracks your finger? Since it's just a grid of "dot" sensors, when you move slowly you're bouncing from closest dot to closest dot, when you move quickly it just does more of an A to B kinda thing? I don't know much of these things.
*EDIT:
So much better on my phone... Maybe just because of the smaller screen though?
Testing touch screen
THis test was done by cnet on smart phones but I think the principle is the same for tablets.

Unless it starts acting funky with random drawing you're not doing your device is probably in perfect condition.
I'm also right handed and mines off about that much as well. Wish there was calibration for the spen in the settings.
I read somewhere there's a way to calibrate the stylus..it was a link within a post..maybe someone can help me find it

its normal.. annoying but normal... all the samsung demo units were like that and i talked to one of the samsung lead reps at our at&t training and he said thats the way the wacom digitizer is...
That's just how it's going to be on a capacitive touch screen...at least for now. Although this screen can read pressure, it's still not going to be as accurate as the old resistive screens were, which were entirely pressure based. (See Nokia N900).

Uhh no this is a Wacom digtizer that's under the screen, that's not a capacitive stylus.
I found a trick in another thread (can't remember where now). Write squiggles like you're trying to get a dried pen working, and make sure they hit the four edges of the screen. Fixed my calibration right up.
Tilt your pen down and towards the right bottom corner (if set to right handed) and it will be accurate. You can test it out yourself.. make a series of dots as in the original picture, only do each dot with the pen angled differently and you'll see that the more you hold it like you're using a pencil, the more accurate it will be. If you hold it straight up and down it will be off by a few millimeters as pictured.
I posted on this in the international Note forum. The sensor is not at the tip, but back some. The device guesses at where the tip must be compared to the location of the sensor based on right/left handedness, and the typical position/angle people hold the stylus at. Here's the pic I posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19882339#post19882339

The phone in essence has 2 touchscreens, one on top of the other: a capacitive one that works with your finger, and a wacom digitizer that works with wacom technology pens.

My screen problem

Hey guys so I posted about this problem awhile ago and someone suggested that it might be a loose connection or something. However I don't think this is the case as if I load splashtop THD up
the picture is perfect, at least the parts that arent android, I still get some lines through the right hand scroll bar and what not, but the rest of the screen works fine. This to me makes me think its a software issue on my prime, not a hardware.
Also I was reading a thread about screen tearing (thinking this might be something similar) and someone said if it appears in a screen shot on the prime then its probably fixable through software, and if it didn't then it most likely wasn't and the image below is a screen shot.
Basically I really don't want to RMA my prime, so I'm looking for guidance on whether or not I'm going to have to.
Rebooting my TFP fixes it.
The picture below shows a bug.
Rarely, but sometimes my prime does this, usually randomly (and usually, at least I think, after I press the power button and bring the prime out of standby mode)

It really does look like a lose connection to me too. Have you tried opening it and checking the lcd ribbon cable? Wiggle the cable and see if you can replicate it. I know its intermittent but worth a try before you send it in. If you feel its software then reflash Honey Comb, hard reset, then let it do another OTA ics update. Also did you install any RGB or screen calibration app?

also if it was a lose connection it would still have lines across the screen when I was using splashtop, however when I load up splash top the problem stops, if I exit splashtop the bug carries on, so my theory is if it was hardware it would always have the black lines on it regardless of splashtop or not. really though I have no idea and I am just posting here to see if my theories makes sense or not, I'm looking from advice from someone that really knows this stuff (unlike me)

Really ??
Dont advise people to open their prime and void the warranty.
If you did send it in after opening it up, chances are they would be able to tell and then refuse any warranty fix or replacement.
Have you turned on Forge GPU rendering in Developer options ?
Just trying to bring that thread back to its initial question:
I have the exact same problem (horizontal bands when bringing it back from hibernation). Any news on this issue? Any advice?

Salaxy S3 Screen click/popping sound

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I got my SGS3 a couple of days ago (so far I like the phone a lot, coming from an iPhone4) and I noticed today that when I tap the upper side of the screen I hear a little buzzing/clicking or popping sound. It feels like there is something loose inside that moves, and it only happens on the upper side of the screen. When I tap the bottom or mid section this sound is not apparent.
I can also feel/hear the sound when I shake the phone.
Is this normal for this phone or should I go back to the att re-seller and complain?
Thank you
That's definitely not normal. I'd take it in and have them replace it.
I've never heard of a Salaxy S3 with this, better get it replaced
this is really interesting - I actually went back to the store and played with a couple of the GS3 they had. Both were doing exactly what I experience on mine. I guess this is something normal for GS3's...

I'm seeing the same thing on my Verizon GSIII. I took off the battery door and can reproduce it by pressing on the plastic frame near the volume control. It is clearly the plastic case making the creaking sounds. So annoying.
I was considering exchanging the phone because of this, however now it sounds like it is more widespread. Should I just live with it? Does anyone Galaxy Nexus's do this?

Question Double Tap To Wake Inconsistent, Anyone else?

Anyone have a fix for this? It works about 5 times out of 10, very frustrating.
Is power management active? Just a guess.
It seems to be a common Sony problem.
Maybe it's just technique, see link.
I'd kill if I didn't have 2X tap on/off... it's so useful.
I also use the the Double Tap app on my N10+'s.
May not work on 11 and 12.

Tried the app, my phone will not allow me to access the accessibility service permissions to make it work. Thanks for trying.

It needs permission in Setting>Accessibility>Installed Services.
See if the option is there. Gookill has made a mess of Android.
I would like to use it but there is issue eith it. Often it gets double tapped in my pocket and random things is touched sometimes im calling to someone from my pocket. By the way block random touch in pocket feature is turned on.

Not sure with Sony, Samsung's have a couple features to mitigate this.
Place with display facing away from your skin.
Place in pocket by the sides not the display.
Use a case with slightly raised guards on the sides.
non of that will help. I can confirm this. Also, the same was happening on my XZ2. I would fine the phone warm just to realize that it did who knows what.
What helped in my case was pattern lock. But that greatly ruined my experience because I usually don't use any locks on my devices. On mark IV i can't get my music player to be always present on lock screen, only if it is playing, which was the main reason why I used that, turned that off. AOD as such is ggod enough option for me.

The display will not activate unless touched, it's that simple. Dry cloth has no effect.
but many other things that get in contact through the cloth have. Zippers, keys, hands, wet cloths, poles in public transport........Yeah. it should not be happening but it did happened waaaaaay to many times to be just a coincidence.

You need to sort it out. This isn't rocket science.
Water should never come in contact with the phone even if ip68 rated.I keep the N10+ in my bdu pant thigh cargo pocket by itself facing outward. Sometimes vest pocket.
It also is in a Zizo Bolt case. I have little accidental turn ons.
Been using it like this for 3 years.
Samsung's have a system app that help block accidental touches if it senses random hits it requires a swipe to turn on the display. There may be a similar app on Playstore.
so does have a SONY. And it is not something that happens 37x per day but it happened enough times on XZ2 and a few times on 1 IV to make me realize that it can happen.
yup. turned off accidental touch in pocket setting to see if it helps

Happens occasionally to me but it's always my fault when or how I place it in my pocket. In 3 years of heavy usage the accidental turn on's never caused any system or app damage. Cargo pockets are ideal, I use bdu's with button closure; the rearward one buttoned, the forward one unbuttoned. It never falls out even when running.
Easy to access and a relatively safe storage area.
A well designed case helps a lot with this issue especially with curved displays. They case should have side guards slightly higher than the display, end guards even higher. Helps prevent damage in face plant drops too.
Double tap works fine for me I've had my phone for a week now.
