My screen problem - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey guys so I posted about this problem awhile ago and someone suggested that it might be a loose connection or something. However I don't think this is the case as if I load splashtop THD up
the picture is perfect, at least the parts that arent android, I still get some lines through the right hand scroll bar and what not, but the rest of the screen works fine. This to me makes me think its a software issue on my prime, not a hardware.
Also I was reading a thread about screen tearing (thinking this might be something similar) and someone said if it appears in a screen shot on the prime then its probably fixable through software, and if it didn't then it most likely wasn't and the image below is a screen shot.
Basically I really don't want to RMA my prime, so I'm looking for guidance on whether or not I'm going to have to.
Rebooting my TFP fixes it.
The picture below shows a bug.
Rarely, but sometimes my prime does this, usually randomly (and usually, at least I think, after I press the power button and bring the prime out of standby mode)

It really does look like a lose connection to me too. Have you tried opening it and checking the lcd ribbon cable? Wiggle the cable and see if you can replicate it. I know its intermittent but worth a try before you send it in. If you feel its software then reflash Honey Comb, hard reset, then let it do another OTA ics update. Also did you install any RGB or screen calibration app?

Looks like your Launcher or a widget.

Can you please tell me what is a name of your battery widget???? I really like it!

also if it was a lose connection it would still have lines across the screen when I was using splashtop, however when I load up splash top the problem stops, if I exit splashtop the bug carries on, so my theory is if it was hardware it would always have the black lines on it regardless of splashtop or not. really though I have no idea and I am just posting here to see if my theories makes sense or not, I'm looking from advice from someone that really knows this stuff (unlike me)

Really ??
Dont advise people to open their prime and void the warranty.
If you did send it in after opening it up, chances are they would be able to tell and then refuse any warranty fix or replacement.
Have you turned on Forge GPU rendering in Developer options ?

Just trying to bring that thread back to its initial question:
I have the exact same problem (horizontal bands when bringing it back from hibernation). Any news on this issue? Any advice?

Prime fell, now wont turn on

Well I might be the first to have let my prime fall. Teetered off a stack of towels and fell to the rug about two feet down. Was playing music, and it instantly stopped. Now I can't get it to turn on. Not sure what to do. Plugged it into the charger and the led on the power button lights up, but I was at >90 battery.
If I hold the power button for 10 seconds the unit vibrates once, but no display. Then about 30 seconds later I get a small ding and a screen lock sound.
Any thoughts?

It sounds like Asus made the device so horribly that even a 2 feet drop onto carpet will ruin it...
They probably used sticky rice to hold the internals together. Woot go ASUS! I really hope they get into some trouble over this tablet.
if it doesn't look damaged from the outside from fall, just return and exchange it. we won't say anything
was it inside a case? did it fall on its back, flat on its face, or on a corner? strange how such a short fall on carpet did that. I'd return it asap. should be easy to exchange. especially if it doesn't look like you yourself damaged it.

No case yet. Fell and hit on the side.
The sucky part is that I'm on vacation. There is a best buy here, but I doubt they will let me return it without the box, and I doubt they have one in stock to give me back. Ugh

Damn, it sounds like the Transformer Prime is extra fragile.
Because one guy dropped it and apparently it is broke the Prime also is fragile? For real, grow up.
Interesting. I just have my wifi tether turned on. And my transformer prime connected to it...so it seems like it might be turning on? Anyone know how to open this case up?

Seems like you broke the LCD the prime itself is on you just don't have picture I would say let it sit a day and good luck
If you have a micro HDMI cable and a TV, you could try hooking it up to check if the device is turning on and if the problem is only with the screen itself.

don't go through all that and void warranty. cuz if you open it up and can't fix it, they will know. then they will accuse you of being the one that broke it n you be outback.
slap that bsckside around slightly n she if she likes it..lmfao or the area where it hit the floor at. if display comes back on, that's just a temp fix till you exchange it.

I doubt if he, Jdbaker, really did open it up. he produced no pics or videos of that claim. he just said that to try to make more people believe his theory. just like he said Asus Engineers called him personally to confirm his theories. after he also told engineers he opened up the back himself. sounds like some Major B.s. to me..lol of he really did do that he would've made sure to take pix to back up his claim. I know I would have.

Wow, I had it much worse than that, I had a thousand color lines across my screen and could only see a sliver of the home screen. Reboot corrects it, hopefully it is just a one-off thing since I haven't rebooted since the install.

Well it's more than likely software related since it wasn't happening before. Did you have asp locker enabled by chance? Wonder what the common denominator is.
Sorry I made a thread about this before I saw this one. I'm getting it to, even after a factory reset and reboots.

Literally took it outta the box like an hour before. Essentially stock. I hadn't even opened the browser.
I'm hoping it's software and isn't a case of the update frying the GPU somehow...

Bump, is no one else experiencing this?
I just upgraded to ICS. The flickering lines as previously pictured are also happening to me. Super annoying.
wow, things just keep getting better and better for the TF201
Oh wow!!
This is just ridiculous!!! I was considering giving the OG ATP another chance if I could find a unit free of defetcs. But between this problem with ICS/OG ATP and the better value 250.00USD 7" ATP, I think I'll pass.
These problems are gonna kill the ATP's resale value, and to me that is most important in the world of evolving tablets.
I shut my down and left it charging over night. I've been using if for like 15 mins so far this morning and it seems fine now. I hope it stays this way...

Blacks on my screen turned red

The task bar and anything that is suppose to be black on my screen has turned red. Even the boot screen is red. I took my Prime to the pool (not even close to the water) and I was playing games while watching the kids swim. I played a little Modern Conflict then went for a swim and my son kept playing for me. He put it down on the chair face up. Not really in direct sunlight. When we left I put it in it's sleeve and when I got home and took it out of sleep the task bar was red. I rebooted and the boot screen was red. Turned it off for a while but it's still red.
Anyone?????????????
Edit - I was so pissed last night I didn't explore this much. I opened my browser this morning and on yahoo's home screen all the areas that are suppose to be white are a sky blue color. This is also the way the stock e-mail app looks as well. ARRRRRGGGGGGAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
That's really weird... Just curious, if you take a screen shot, send it to your email and look at it on another device, is it red or black? Probably black, as I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, but just wondering. Really very odd though...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium.
Thanks Steve,
I transfered a screenshot to my PC and shows the black normal. Appears to be a hardware issue if the software is rendering the proper colors while creating the screenshot. I guess I'll have to venture into RMA hell.
I have not tried a full factory reset yet. Getting all my data backed up first. Pushing the reset button does nothing.
EDIT - Pictures added
Here are some pictures I took with my phone since screenshots render properly. The first picture is how my home screen used to look like. The rest are of the problem.

That looks like it is probably hardware damage but it might be worth trying a factory reset before going the RMA route. It could be a problem with drivers that might be resolved by a reset.
Factory reset did not work. Going to RMA
did you drop the prime at all? or something fell on it or bumped it really hard? maybe something with the display connector is loose.

Not that I know of. My son treats my stuff good so I don't think he droped it. I'm in the process of RMAing it and hopefully it won't take too long.
maybe caused by a magnet????? just like in old tvs if you put a magnet clse to the screen ir messes up all the colors.
No, no magnets on a plastic lawn chair. LoL
Put it in the sleeve at the pool. Set it in the car where I always do. Took it out when I got home and set it on the dining room table. Woke it up about 30 minutes later to check e-mail and that is when I noticed the red. Rebooted with no help. RMA in progress.
I have noticed something since this has happened. Before, when I'd play games or surf heavily the back of my Prime would get warm right where the SoC is located. I've also been having random shutdowns when playing THD games. I think my NVIDIA chip may be messed up. Now the thing runs really good and it doesn't get warm anymore. I've not had any shutdowns since this happened. Maybe something in one or all of the GPU's was messed up to begin with and now that it fried it runs better. I know that sound crazy but I've seen chips do some strange things in the past (I work in the semiconductor industry).
Anyway, hopefully ASUS will replace my motherboard because I don't think it's software related.
Just sent my Prime in for repair. I'll report back what they find just in case you are interested or develop the same problem.
Crazy lol
Yeah, I'd say that's definitely an issue with the GPU. Loose cable could be it, but you usually don't see distortion like that if that's the case. That sucks, hopefully you'll get it back fixed.
Sorry I didn't report back sooner but I RMA'd it and it came back fixed. Total RMA time was a little over a week.
I'll have to send it back soon because I don't think the tech that did the repair connected my rear camera back good enough because I now have the green lines on the camera issue and also my charging brick died the other day. Just another day is Prime paradise I guess.
My Prime has been in RMA for a week now. Had the same problem (and many more) as yours, with the blacks turning red. Hopefully I'll be getting mine back soon then as well.

Flaming & smoking Prime!!!

Jeez, got my new Prime yesterday, from my insurance company, as the old one's screen cracked.
So I rooted it and installed all the apps and customized it just as I wanted it with some mods. After a while the problems started...
1) Screen went black and had to reboot it. That happened at least 10 times. A few times I had to press the ON-button several times before anything happened.
2) The screen just goes nuts with the colors ie. turns pink and blotchy...
and
3) When I connected the dock...smoke rose from the dock and smelled like welding... Ok, I thought there had been some dirt that burned off. Connected again and noticed it wouldn't fit properly, couldn't lock.
As I unconnected it started to smoke again!!!
Stupid as I am, I tried a third time and...BLAM! Small flames came from the dock!!!
Amazingly the tablet itself is OK, except from 1 and 2...
Guess I'll have to call ASUS
Funny, I now have one Prime with a cracked screen that works fine and one Prime with good screen that is a complete mess and could probably burn down my house!
W.Z.
Ouch! Take some pics please.
i really find that hard to believe....
with the amount of voltage and current the prime is able to provide, i highly doubt it is able to create a small fire unless you did something really stupid with it....smokes yes, fire no.....
but please do post some pictures and let us know what asus says

I'll try it later and see what happens...
Can be difficult to take pics, but I can try video.
Hopefully there won't be any flames (or BIG sparks, really) or smoke, as I'm scared it'll damage the tablet...
And I don't think it is "really stupid" to connect the tablet to the dock...
Let's see later what happens :fingers-crossed:
I wonder if I have to contact the insurance company as well, as they got me this crappy one.
W.Z.
once again, with the power coming from the dock and tablet, you shouldn't be getting any flames or a big spark, small one maybe
but then again, im not sure whats inside the prime so i can't be 100% sure on the spark, but flame no... unless you spilled flammable liquid in there... but that will fall under doing something stupid
I guess you have never seen a LIPO battery fire.
...and the strange thing is that it didn't come from the connector, but from the hinge's left side !?
The flame/spark resembled lighting a small match, believe it or not...
W.Z.
Well it certainly wasn't as explosive as in the video...!!!
Funny that's a Finnish video, my fellow citizens experimenting
But yes, guess we all have read about phones and batteries exploding and caught fire.

Hrrm...well, it is freakin' difficult to take a picture with one hand when you're doing something that needs two hands...unless you're a mutant that got three?
Video is easier as I can start recording and then stabilizing the phone/cam on a stand. And no my phone doesn't record to VHS...

Display static and lines issue

I'm having display issue on my tab that was purchase as refurbished unit about a year ago. It was working fine last night and I turn it on this morning and it is completely jumbled
even with this messed up screen, it can still detect internet, login with my pw etc.
It also seems that screen doesn't flicker in portrait mode while it flickers in landscape mode
As far as I can tell, it seems like the displace has become out of sync (like how you monitor behaves if you have strong magnet near by)

does most people read this forum using 3G connections? no one has ever ask to resize 3 photos taken from my phone camera on any forums. They are 3MB per picture. Is that considered big in this forum?
It happened out of the blue, so it appears to be a hardware issue. Better contact Samsung, as it may not be easy to fix.

It isn't the file size, it's the resolution itself. Even on my 1080p desktop, they are nearly twice as wide as the monitor.
Make sure to resize them to a "standard" resolution.

Your tab has secretly been dropping acid?
Seriously though, this looks a bit like an issue a Samsung TV my parents own developed.
The fault was determined to either be the LCD panel itself or the cable connecting to it but since the two were one integral piece and the TC was out of warranty, it was cheaper to replace it than try and have it fixed, so we never got to the bottom of it.
If your tab's still under warranty, you'd be best sending it back to Samsung and letting them have a look.
