who here has had their phone repaired with bb after rooting with htc unlock
They usually dont repair phones, they just replace them.
But I would definitely unroot before taking it in, just to be sure they don't void your warranty.
They won't know...they are retarded & work at best buy. Nobody at any of the local stores even knew what a mhl adapter is.

Not true at my local best buy store, one of the employees entered their wifi password in my phone so i could research a video card and the first thing he said was, hey your phones rooted. There was another time it happened as well.
Not sure if they would care or not, better to be safe than sorry.

There are a few BB employees who are actually people like us and root their own phones as well, but the rest are clueless.

Ok thanks man. going to root my EVO on hboot 1.5 then
Most places don't care lol they like HTC only threw that void warranty in because folks over clock and tend to spank there CPU or brick it . Which they don't wanna warranty somethin like that do to a user messing up.
But if general hardware issue your good to go.

I'm thinking I might be forced to sell my HTC Thunderbolt. Right now I am running the latest BAMF 2.1, and my question is, can I sell my phone and be able to meet someone at a Verizon Wireless and have the rooted Gingerbread Tbolt activated to whoever the buyer will be? Or do I need to flash back to bone stock unrooted 2.2? I'm hoping to leave it as is and just do a data wipe so that perhaps mine will have a little bit of an edge over the other phones I'm seeing posted now. I hate to sell it but times are tough. Thanks for any advice! -Phil
Most of the phones I have sold I have left rooted

I'd leave it as is, custom rom & all. Whoever buys it will most likely appreciate it. If they've had a rooted HTC before, they can figure out how to swap roms/radios.

Unfortunately I am broke as a joke and I need some cash fast...
So the other day im standing at the door waiting for my fiancée to go out for lunch and i dropped my phone on our hardwood (giggity) floor. It had a case on it and it couldnt have fallen from more than 3 feet. i picked it up turned on the screen nothing wrong. all was good. i get into the car and realize that the bottom half of my screen doesnt work. i have hboot 1.50.000 so as far as taking it back im pretty screwed. Not really having a choice i flashed a stock rom and took it in to the store. They told me that my insurance had carried over even though i had bought it off craigslist (which i didnt know) they said to come back in an hour and it would be good to go. I come back and the tech tells me that it couldnt be fixed. He asked me if i wanted to order a new one or i could have one that a customer brought back during their trial period, i checked it out it was in perfect shape plus it came with a screen protector. So in my head im thinking i just took my rooted broken phone in the store and am walking out with a new phone plus sum, all with out them knowing i had void my warranty! he activates the new 3d for me and just as hes handing it to me he says "Oh and just a heads up dont root this one." I could barely speak i just looked at him and said....al--right. haha but that is the kind of service i always get with my local sprint store. they ALWAYS are super nice and always take care of me. Is this story relevant to anything? not really but with all the sprint hate ive been reading i thought i would give them props. ive been with at&t, verizon and us cellular and sprint has surpassed all of them.
Rooting your phone doesn't void your insurance coverage with Sprint. If you pay them for it, they'll provide the service . Glad you got a replacement with no hassle or deductible.
This made my night. I can sleep now. Lulzy story.

Yea man you got a good tech. I'm a Sprint tech and per policy since we can't prove a device has been rooted we have to exchange/repair your device. But a lot of the techs like to have a power trip and give customers grief for rooted devices. We all have rooted devices at our store and I always encourage getting the most out of your device by rooting it

So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

Grounding the contact just forces the phone into download mode so they can unlock it. The only other way to get there (that I know of) is to softbrick the phone by breaking the hboot signature.
Damn. People had to get really clever to get to that. That's amazing. Hopefully our way forward will be simpler and safer. I'll bet many people traded the the rezound for something simpler to S-off

Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?
