I am wondering how you guys are going to unlock your bootloaders. I am personally going to wait on one of our great developers to find an exploit.
Yup. Same here.

I am also thinking it may be a situation like with the HTC rezound. Where we need the HTC unlock method to get the first 75% then some crazy trick like touching wires to certin places to get the rest of the full s-off

Grounding the contact just forces the phone into download mode so they can unlock it. The only other way to get there (that I know of) is to softbrick the phone by breaking the hboot signature.
Damn. People had to get really clever to get to that. That's amazing. Hopefully our way forward will be simpler and safer. I'll bet many people traded the the rezound for something simpler to S-off

But what if it's a shattered screen and it has to go through that 3rd party insurance. Will they not send you a new phone if you void the warranty?

Hmm no clue guess it depends on that 3rd party but like I said I'm sure cracked screeens are ok or.something but not bricks. Warrenty is generally to get it swapped out through sprint when it totally dies or through HTC

So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

So far as we are aware, noone has. To be honest, as tach said, they might just flash the stock bootloader and go on. Depends on if that employee wants extra work or not.

I don't think they will go that deep and check the bootloader, when my OG droid antenna crapped out on me I brought it in on cyanogenmod and they didn't even notice, the employees in most of the cases don't know squat about the phones and what to do with them

Ok thanks man. going to root my EVO on hboot 1.5 then
Most places don't care lol they like HTC only threw that void warranty in because folks over clock and tend to spank there CPU or brick it . Which they don't wanna warranty somethin like that do to a user messing up.
But if general hardware issue your good to go.

Depends on the best buy. Yes they aren't suppose to take any phone in if its been rooted or flashed to another network. In my store I'm the only one that knows about rooting ans such and everyone else cares less. They just want phone to work or they have iPhones. I wouldn't take it but my Co worker would be like," thats a a cute blue Android when it boots. "

Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?

ohh damn.... dont do that to the poor phone .... just wait a few days, i sure u will be able to S-off with the new OTA, just give it a few days , this is XDA, everything is possible, but dont do that to your phone man, its a great phone, and dont think u will be getting a new one, THEY ONLY SEND REFURBISHED PHONES... so just keep the one u have...

i'm not too sure about this. i asked a t-mobile rep on the day i was buying my One about the insurance. he said something about you receiving a one warranty for the software, regardless of what you do with it; but i have no idea about the hardware.
