So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

Not trolling. I gave you an answer.
"If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day; if you teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."
Plus plenty of people have posted their experiences about doing this over the phone. It was all that was talked about the first week we got HTC Dev unlock.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

So far as we are aware, noone has. To be honest, as tach said, they might just flash the stock bootloader and go on. Depends on if that employee wants extra work or not.

Is this at the store or at a return center? Not sure of the terminology for the location where a VZW employee would have the opportunity to flash an engineering bootloader.

I don't think they will go that deep and check the bootloader, when my OG droid antenna crapped out on me I brought it in on cyanogenmod and they didn't even notice, the employees in most of the cases don't know squat about the phones and what to do with them

Grounding the contact just forces the phone into download mode so they can unlock it. The only other way to get there (that I know of) is to softbrick the phone by breaking the hboot signature.
Damn. People had to get really clever to get to that. That's amazing. Hopefully our way forward will be simpler and safer. I'll bet many people traded the the rezound for something simpler to S-off

So unfortunately I didn't know that the DNA had lost its capability of being rooted unto after I Sold my old phone. Should I return my phone and get one tat can be easily rooted or should I stay steady in hopes of a new root method, well s-off. Or if I can should I try to put in a insurance claim and get a DNA that maybe hasn't had an ota update?

I don't believe they are getting the one. The DNA is the best your going to get at the moment. Unless you wait for the gs4 that comes next month. Verizon is also supposedly getting the Motorola x this June. But the DNA is $49 with a new contract right now.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
If you like custom Roms and kernels and such I would not recommend it. There's nothing wrong with the dev community but if you buy it now you won't be able to unlock etc unless you send the phone off.
I would wait for the gs4 personally.

Do you really want to play the "maybe i'll wait just a few more months for this newer phone to come out" game?
I'm sure the GS4, and HTC One are great, but DNA seems just as impressive ( based on video reviews of all ). Once Verizon releases sense 5 for it being rooted won't make a difference.
Rezound to DNA was an amazing upgrade, so much more battery life, NO HICCUPS, and an even more gorgeous screen that can be on for 4-5 hours compared to 1 hour, lets not forget 24/7 4G without battery drain.

DNA is a great device, I switched between this and my GS3 before I sold it and was extremely happy to come back to the DNA. Root would have been a deal breaker for me but since I unlocked and rooted before I took the OTA updates I was able to root again on the newest update. HTC has also always always (I don't care what anyone tells you) had better overall reception and not just with service and 4G but with WiFi Bluetooth too. My GS3 sucked when it came to getting strong signal and I doubt the GS4 will be any better with it, Samsung has always lacked in that department.

Just because the people who are working on it aren't posting public updates on what theyre doing doesn't mean it isn't being worked on, and by some pretty damn talented people might I add. Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?
