As explained in many posts, the flyer is expected to get an htc release of ICS... but the view has yet to be mentioned and is currently EOL via sprint, so the chances of an htc release is slim.
Sorry but isn't a view is a flyer?

mostly, but the flyer has a gsm radio and the view has a cdma radio. flashing one to the other is only good for bricking.

That's not quite the only difference. They have a different chipset too.
As for ICS, eventually, but seeing as how the view only just got HC 3 months ago I wouldn't count on any official (HTC) builds hitting us until the end of the year IMO. If i'm wrong, i'm wrong.
Holding out for Jelly Bean...............

Wow just reading the blog, so many people are asking about flyer and HTC decided not to include in the ICS roll out.... Fully capable and able device like View/Flyer should be getting it first, I bet they cant integrate the scribe in to it or its taking them a very long time to do it and this is why they are not putting it forward.... This really is a sad day for us HTC flyer/view users
I have faith in God, everyone else must pay up front. LOL
I ve contacted HTC support and confirmed thats there is no scheduled update since now. I think that means we will never see any update for Flyer. HC turned out very buggy I cant even make skype calls, music sounds strage in high volume, flash player plays only via explorer and nowhere else eg fb, and many others. I ve just downgrade to GB and my Flyer is usable again with no bugs till now. ps I ve asked support how to downgrade and they anwered that I just cant. My opinion is that there will be no update even for bugs HTC just dont care for HTC Flyer anymore they consider it as a dropped project.

Well after this awesome update to hc (rather lack there of) I am very weary of any news about an ics update for our device

I hope this is true. I suppose there might be an argument that since this is one of the few tablets with a pen, an ICS update (with more pen-utilizing code) would show off its capabilities better. And maybe the delay in HC is that internally within HTC a shift toward ICS was decided upon to save resources. Well, here's hoping. I would prefer ICS over HC, especially for the pen capabilities.
Well there you have it. We are saved. . If this guy says it, it must be true.
By the way, Acer and Motorola have announced January ICS updates to tne A100 and A500 and Xoom

Sadly that's a link to a 'news' website, who has picked on the same Google+ posting that starts this thread.

Agree, take it with a pinch of salt.
I'd be surprised that HTC allow employees to publish that kind of information, when it's not saying anything publically at the moment.
I realise that he does say that this is his opinion, but if really a "Sense" developer that opinion would have to have been formed based on "inside" information, and hence I'd have thought he wouldn't be 'employee of the month' at the moment.
Untrusting in me, suspects the his/her closest connection to HTC is ownership of a device.....but I'd have to add that this is his/her only post that I've seen. There maybe posts which would give more crediblity to their claims.

Why don't these companies make it public if they are working on a update? I really don't see harm in it. This hard to get game drives me further away from them. Specially when a device comes out and they promise so much with it and then once they pocket your bucks, they some what push you away or forget about you.
"BAD HTC. You big player now? so you think you treat your customers bad! This will only bring your downfall. You climb too fast and you lose your grip - you fall fast and you fall hard. I for one wont be there with life net if you keep treating me like this".

I would be just happy with a sense-less ICS running on the flyer. CM team needs to add this baby to their arsenal.
I don't know if its just me. But are HTC Amaze owners like LAST to get anything? I swear it looks like there has been a leaked ICS for every phone but ours. Crap, even the 5 year old HD2 from HTC has an ICS ROM. If HTC is really testing the ICS (Which Im starting to doubt) for the Amaze, we would at least hear SOMETHING from them besides, (er... 1st Quarter 2012). I dunno if it's just me but it appears a few people's timelines are messed up. From every resource I've found the htc hd2 was released at the earliest 3-4quarter 2009 which makes it... Closer to 2.5 years old /off soapbox. But no, this isn't the case there are many, many phones without the hd2 is a great developer phone and due to its popularity and time it's been out the devs know it in and out and what needs to be done to get ics working, same with the vibrant, now. Last I checked gs2 doesn't have any ics. And nor does the mytouch lg devices and afaik mytouch slide among others I could be wrong but I don't believe so. Anyway man we'll get ics. Just takes time it's only been released for a few months now.

LOL I had ICS on my HD2 before it died
Like LordDart said HD2 has alot of dev support which is what made it rock but yea anyways we'll eventually get ICS either from HTC or X.
It does suck though that they keep delaying it, but like many people have already said, better to wait and get something badass rather then get some half assed ICS port. I personally dont mind the wait too much since atleast we have gingerbread which isnt bad at all unlike some of the older versions like Froyo.
Thanks rx, plus, jeez I'm coming from a vibrant... Now we got really screwed. We didn't get official froyo for a long frigging time... And the difference between froyo and eclair was... Well the difference between champagne and carbonated piss... So waiting on froyo for that long was dang frustrating. Even our roms didn't have working gps on froyo for a long time, never got real cm support. Afaik. But now? Now the development there is ridiculously awesome. It's still a great phone. But yeah our phone is smooth and snappy as is... Unlike the vibrant ran outta box. For many months... So don't feel too bad we have a solid phone with some great devs.

The Evo 4G will never and was never planned to receive ICS, and yet there are completely functioning ICS builds available for it, with working camera on top of everything else besides the obvious 4G (and maybe a few other things, I haven't followed OG Evo development since I upgraded to this phone).
Official releases aren't a huge deal unless we need them to fix something. The problem with ICS on our phones have to do with the difference between it and GB, as well as our camera. I do not foresee JB to be a big difference from ICS, kind of like Froyo to GB.
So in the end an official release won't matter as long as JB isn't a huge difference over ICS, and we can use the official ICS release in order to make sure the camera works.
You're going to be able to run JB on this phone, do not worry.

I know the phones hardware is more than capable of handling JB. And I'd agree with everything you said, but our phone has some unique needs that others don't. Like you mentioned, the 3d/camera is one of them and also Wimax. ICS has been around for quite a while and there isn't a single ICS build for our phone that is a nice stable daily driver. Getting some of our phone's features to work without the help of HTC may be a bit tough. The development scene of the Evo 3D isn't huge either, though thankfully we have many great devs.
I came to the Evo 3d from the HTC HD2, now that's a phone that seems to be able to run just about anything. Ridiculously massive development scene. It had ICS running long before many other phones and it isn't even an android phone.

Seems like a neat idea. Hope you are able to work it out.
Problem would be that they would never say that it's about cost, because they have already said that it is about performance, at least through unofficial channels.....
Best of luck!
I think something in the range of $10 million US would be a good starting point for HTC. Considering they paid $300 million for a glorified equalizer (Beats).
What are we doing exactly? I'm confused
I think the proposal is to pay HTC to support their own device !
I don't think it will work.

I'll be getting one eventually but in the meantime think its time to just make the most out of what we have with the flyer. Senseless, the best honeycomb rom, and LISBON, the only AOSP ICS Rom we have. Could be worse, we could have Views lol.
Anyway for the time being lets all just give up on Jelly bean and focus on what we have. I've complained more than anyone, but I'm over that, I'm all about helping where ever I can to make sure the flyer experience doesn't suck. And besides, the whole portrait oriented nature of Jelly bean makes me kind of want to pass on it anyway.
I gotta thank Wadegeek for calling me out for being such a crybaby. Honestly the flyer is only as bad as you make it out to be. And updates are over-rated, a perfectly fast working honeycomb is as good as any ics or jellybean rom...well minus support for chrome that is lol.
and its just beyond time to give up on htc. The writing is on the wall, HTC is done making them, done supporting them, and betting their future on the one series. Any future updates will have to come from ourselves.
And seeing how little signatures we got on the petition shows why htc gave up on it. The flyer was a flop. Like the Apple Newton, Nintendo Virtual Boy, Sega Saturn, HD Radio its a flop. but difference is its open source android so we can do something about it.

Agree, all we need is a good enough rom that we can use everyday without turning into rage.
Senseless and lisbon is getting close to that. Forget HTC, they already get ride of the flyer.....I doubt whether the flyer team exist now.
Ok people time to grow up a bit. I don't get this endless rage against HTC for "ignoring" the Flyer, I really don't. You guys act like you got burned when HTC didn't update the Flyer to ICS, but last I checked they never promised they would. Nobody ever said "Oh yeah buy a Flyer/View, it'll get ICS." If somebody had told you that I'd get the anger, but I seriously doubt they did. So enough with the *****ing, and saying "HTC should be ashamed" crap, it's pointless and worthless. This is yet another thread that has gotten de-railed with it, so unless you guys have something to add to the kickstart effort take it to your own thread or PM or something.

A lot of these guys have been there and done that, look in one of the DrewGaren threads. What's wrong with being a little patient and letting Chaosz-X do his thing? I mean if anyone around here deserves donations it's him.
I love android for allot of reasons. Roms and tweaking was and is a big one. I had a captivate which I loved but I sold it when my company decided to buy me an iPhone and pay my cell bill. I hate iOS and missed android so when best buy reduced the cost on the flyer I jumped on it. The flyer has been a disappointment flashing wise to me (no fault to the developers here, work much appreciated). On the other hand my flyer has paid for itself multiple times over and is used daily for streaming and it's mhl connection.
What I have learned is that I like htc build quality but that their support sucks and that IMO sense is a way too large, bloated, laggy android skin that makes development more of an issue.
Do I regret buying my flyer, no. Would I buy another htc device, unlikely. Do I expect that I will see versions of ics/jelly bean that work for my use, no. I am ok with that now, but the device fell short of my flashing addiction
sense sucks on the flyer because it's not the full sense you get from a phone, it's a special "sense 1.1 for tablets",and honeycomb is laggy naturally, it's pretty much a throw away os google came up with for a better tablet layout and combine sense with that and it's even worse. But honestly I love sense 3.6 on my vivid, theme support, and multiple homescreen layouts make sense great.
I like my flyer honestly. Getting caught up in the update thing can easily make you hate it but we got some good developers here that are working hard to improve it.

+1.
HTC flyer awesome potential - the device IS capable of running ICS. HTC "added value" of HTC sense etc seems to have done a dis-service in terms of future upgrades.
It is ironic that more IOS users can run Chrome than Android. Why ? Cos you need ICS or greater and the HTCs of the world just won't support their products for even 18 - 24 months after release.
18 months is a long time in the tech world, and if I had a tablet that flopped like the Flyer I wouldn't be supporting it either. It's not worth their time or money to get ICS out for it, not when it's perfectly functional as is.
The real question is why did HTC even bother making it. It was more expensive than an ipad, had gingerbread instead of honeycomb, and a single core cpu. And they didnt market it bad, they just didnt market it period. But in hindsight really every android tab that came out at that time failed, mostly due to price. Up until this year the only other android tabs I saw other people have were the nook color and cheap Chinese tablets.
I guess I don't hold it against them for abandoning the Flyer anymore. It is what it is, android came to tablets before it was ready for tablets and failure was inevitable. I'd like to see them try again, maybe a one series tablet with sense 4 and an s pen.

Btw the chrome thing does piss me off. Google needs to make that **** work with gingerbread and honeycomb at least. Google is quick to abandon previous versions of android but you sure don't see them pushing the manufacturers for updates

I was searching the internet when I came across this on Reddit. Should we look forward to seeing Official kitkat on our devices or just turn our head away from now? What are your opinions?
"To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4."

If they decide to selectively update the Qualcomm versions of One X (the AT&T one and probably the One XL) they'd only create even more disappointment and rage amongst users. Sure, the ones getting the update will be happy.
And about the X+, none of the devices would get the update, because all versions of the X+ use the Nvidia chipset.
Tegra 3
What I don't get is that how can we still have Android 4.3/4.4 roms for the One X+ yet HTC says they can't develop roms because Nvidia no longer supports this chipset.
The main issue is the kernel and drivers . in most cases these have been back ported from 4.3 so although they work its not optimum

Wow they seem really unorganized, posting two opposite statements both concerning the same topic at almost the same time..

They didnt teh statement read

So they never said the Nvidia powered devices where being looked at. If we want updates we should be pestering Nvidia to continue tegra3 support
As far as I understood it they meant that an update to 4.3 would only be possible on the OneX, that's why the try to find a way to update to 4.4 on both devices.
Otherwise it would be pointless to say that they don't want to update the OneX, but still wanting to find a way to update to KitKat..

Lets's see if HTC will suprise us in a positve way.
It only concerns the Qualcomm version of the One X. The HOX+ will not be updated, the Tegra 3 variant is not supported by Nvidia. And of course, HTC did not think to pressure them to offer support, so...
Why are people getting angry about the phone being discontinued? A new update could mean a new HBOOT and new touch firmware a patches for things that we have exploited for our ROMS. Look at the 3.18 update.

Drippler has a article now that seems to state HTC is reconsidering to update to kitkat for one x and one x+.
One other gem from this AMA, which will have HTC One X and One X+ owners very happy, is that HTC is now reconsidering updating these phones to Android KitKat. This is a pretty big backflip considering HTC came out and officially said that the phone would not be supported past Android 4.2.2, but I think we can all agree this change a good thing.

I think we should just sit back and wait...
HTC's rep and sales has gone sideways, so in my opinion, well.... Pretty much said.

Exactly. I see that the update thing went during the reddit session many times. I think they realize we are unhappy with this decision and maybe they will try to talk with nvidia about that.
Sweet dreams.

Its the same source as the rest of the news so i think its just taken out of context. My reading of what was said is its just the Qualcomm handsets that are being revisited as nvidia have dropped open support for the tegra3

Yes, only the US (Qualcomm) version of the One X is being investigated for an update.
And if you look through the comments, you will see that HTC responded loud and clear:
"For the HTC One X in the US (diff chipset than global version), we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4."
HERE is the link for this.

From my knowledge, we didn't exploit anything as per say. With the new HBoot you just have to unlock the bootloader which is a service provided by HTC itself and flash a recovery which is a job for our devs which shouldn't take a while to find a solution to. What you said would be an issue if it was S-Offed or close to an S-Off so the update might cause a threat to that exploit but seeing as this didn't happen/not close to happening I dont think thats a problem.
I honestly am not in a hurry to get a new phone since I know that my HOX+ is good for me, however I would be quite happy if we can have access to sense 5.5 with the kitkat features. I like blinkfeed and with the options found on the One I think i will love it more.
YAY! Guess what I just bought?!
Not really bothered about not getting a KitKat update even though it would be nice, because I don't want it being bogged down by sense.
I'll have a look at what's available homebrewed on here and continually moan about it on Elevate
