Hey everyone! I just got my Razr today and wanted to get it rooted. I'm not a noob by any means with Android but I am noob to Moto. I'm coming from the LG Revolution and a Droid Charge before that. I've made a few themes for the Revolution that I look forward to bringing here for everyone.
So anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to seeing all you guys around here!

Welcome. You'll find the RAZR is a solid phone. One thing, I hope you bought the RAZR MAXX. You will need the bigger battery it comes with. I love my RAZR MAXX. It's a terrific phone.

No I just got the regular RAZR but I've seen the post for using the MAXX battery with it. Just need to find a broken one now lol. Got it rooted already and getting ready to install ICS. I've actually owned quite a few 4G phones so I wasn't expecting this battery to be any better.
Congrats on the RAZR buddy! You're gonna have loads of fun with the RAZR. Its the best out there!

Thanks! Can't wait to put a theme out for it, should only be about a week.

I just got the X2 and it's been running fine for me. It seems with the Tegra 2, this phone would possibly be able to handle Android 4.0 whenever it comes out. With the lack of development, what are the chances that the X2 will just ride with GB until its death? I like so far how the phone is working well out of the box, but in 1-1.75 years when the phone shows its age, I would like to mod it here and there to get some more life out of it.
No phone is future proof. The Tegra3 is around the croner for tablets, and phones wont be that far behind. I would bet 4g phones get the Tegra3, so if 4g is a negative for a select crowd, the DX2 may be the last great 3g phone. It will be interesting to see if they continue supporting a high-end 3g line.
I would imagine ICS would run fine on OG DX much less DX2. I would say there is a small, but possible chance a stock DX2 would die on GB. But the dev will bring it regardless.
Edit: And at this point I am 100% satisfied with everything I have flashed on DX2. What did DX have? Liberty and Apex. And yes a good bit of themes. But the devs here have a ton of scripts I never saw on DX and the themes have been coming fast, and are of good quality. The eclipse ROM has branched to AOSP, so both crowds should be happy. I personally stuck with 2.2 and couldnt be happier.
Jrummy can choke on his Charge
That's good to hear. ICS seems like it's going to be a new experience and I would hate to miss out on it. I'm a "noob" and so I can't demand things and my understanding is limited, but the bootlock seems to be restricting development

Not to mention that Google bought Moto recently. I think we will indeed get ICS.

Let's hope so! There is a game called "We Rule" that doesn't work on the X2 yet but on the X1! BOOO
Yeah the locked bootloader, and all these devs jumping ship has caused me to make the sad sad decision as well.
I remember using the OG I9000 Galaxy S and the simple joy of browsing up and down the XDA forums looking for a new fresh ROM to flash. Unfortunately I don't get the same joys with my RAZR and I think it's a bummer, considering it's an attractive and svelte device with good internals. (Also, it's Android. Why would you lock your bootloader if you don't agree with a "open" ecosystem. Damn you Motorola.)
I'm rocking the XT910 model GSM unlocked and I just have a few things to take care of beforehand.
The little crevasse between the edge of the phone and the screen is home to (in my case) some lint which is although minor, is really unattractive and downright annoying. It's the little part of the glass where it slopes down into a ridge. Has anybody cleaned this before? Would anybody suggest I use a toothbrush to brush out the little dust and lint?
Also, I'm no fan of the SIII (cheap plastic phones belong in Toys R Us, not Best Buy, also S Voice is a sham), and I'm not sure how happy I'd be using a dual core One X with the knowledge that there is a quad core version in Asia. If I do hold on to my phone until say, December, do you think I'd still be able to fetch ... say ... $300 used in excellent condition?
Thanks
I love my RAZR Maxx. I've had the OG Droid, OG Atrix, Bionic and Droid Charge - the RAZR Maxx is by far my favorite. Really, I bought it for the 3300mah battery and the notification LED, but I'm really starting to love my RAZR Maxx.
The Atrix and Bionic displays were kind of crappy, so I was a bit hesitant to get the RAZR Maxx, but I'm glad that I did. I guess they changed their displays to SAMOLED+?
The one thing I miss is the sweet Wolfson DAC in the Droid Charge.
Why do people feel the need to announce they are dropping the RAZR?
News flash: no one cares.

I too love my razr maxx, therefore the cleaning question posted above becomes even more relevant how do we clean that ridge?

people leaving Razr means less people who're on the same bot with me.
I do like to mess with this phone (locked bootloader is nothing) & give away stuff.
less audience means less motivation to me..
so is the less the merrier??

The locked bootloader sucks :/ I use Epsilon V4 as a ROM, and I just found out that the developer just sold his RAZR for an iPhone >_>
I figure if the developers are packing up, I've got little incentive to stay and wait for custom ROMS :/

The Maxx has just been released in EU and there coming new Users every day. Just because they don't post on XDA doesn't mean, that they don't use your Stuff
I have a lot to do in my Home Forum to explain People, how they should use your BootMenu or Modules. You got an good Name in the game

But there's no more dev/ROM project to support BootMenu (AFAIK). That's my biggest concern...
& it's hard to do automation of safestrap ROM back-porting (still possible)

I don't understand why they wont support it
being a game changer is hard enough
Alright guys just bought a white razr today for $150 with box, charger etc and 3 cases including an otterbox!!! looks brand new!! getting ready to root it but what roms do you guys recommend and run? also is overclocking available?
I'm using simplex rom and I really like it. It has some over clocking abilities but since the RAZR bootloader is locked we are limited to complete overcloacking.

ok cool i will check it out! and i know the bootloader is unlocked like every other moto phone haha. thanks for the reply i will check out for sure. cleaning out old sdcard to try this sucker out!
Good buy! I will second simplex rom, but another great option is eclipse. I ran that for a while and recently switched to simplex. Both are great. If you dont mind some minor bugs then take a look at full throttle AOKP build. There are a lot of choices and you won't be disappointed!

Im thinking about buying a Moto Razr.
I have Currently an LG optimus X2 so i think the Razr will have a much better Hardware And whatnot.
So what is it with the roms wor the RAZR ICS or JB Custom roms out that realy stable?
Thanks
The ICS roms are pretty good. The JB roms are still kinda so-so. I have the vanilla Razr. Wish I had the Maxx.

The Razr is a great phone. Battery life is kind of short. I would get the MAXX if you can. One thing- the Razr XT912's bootloader is locked and will probably stay locked... so yeah.
I regret buying it honestly, it could be such a great a great phone but Motorola and Verizon did certain things to make it bad, locked boot loader, locked sim, keeping the JB update and more. Perhaps Google (Google bought moto mobile in case you don't know) may spread there awesomeness and unlock the boot loader, but other than that the phones honestly pretty good but they make it bad. I prefer my s3, because of those reasons.

If you are going to get one, get the maxx version. Hands down best battery out there. Also ics is stable enough for daily use.

I know this isn't much of a problem but my friend needed some money so I bought this Irulu tablet from him for 30 bucks. Seemed like a good deal. So I figured I'd come ask my excellent Droid RAZR community if anyone has any sort of guidance. I do know it came rooted out of the box LOL. Just wondering if it would be difficult to build some sort of ROM or something even stock to work on it since its running 4.0.3
