[Q] About Warranty Requirements - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

alright so... i kinda screwed up the usb port on my beloved SGS2 few days back... and well it "kinda" work and "kinda" not.. sometime it detect its connected to computer.. and shows "USB cable connected" then sometime it wont detect no matter how many time i plug it in... so i'm planning to go to the reseller that i bought it from and see if they gona replace me with new one or send it to samsung to see if they gona fix it...
just a side note: if the fixing cost/the new phone cost doesnt go into warranty (water got into usb and broke it), my house insurance will cover the entire phone (confirmed)... so my problem isnt about that luckily
yes so.. i want to know what kind of requirement i need for warranty here i list what i did
1st Flashed stock rom with stock kernel (so yea its stock without root or any kind of custom)
2nd Reseted my custom binary (its been 0 for quite while now anyway...)
3rd Factory reseted (just in case it would magically start to work after this.. and to also ensure to samsung guys that i've tried everything within the warranty limit)
now question is.. did i miss something? i will be returning it thursday
ps. sry if there is incorrect grammar or anything... my english isnt perfect

I'd probably do it this way:-
1) Format cache, data, system, & sd card in CWRecovery.
2) Flash stock firmware
3) Use jig
They won't fix/replace it under warranty given you got water in the USB port (we went thru this last week if you recall). And how did you manage to flash a stock rom if your USB port is borked ? Anywho...

yes i remember mistah XD and it doesnt hurt to try does it? XD for the warranty i mean... and also i flashed it via mobile odin.. first downloaded latest stock rom via checkfrus downloader.. and then dropped it into dropbox from desktop.. downloaded it off from dropbox on android and then flash it via mobile odin done...

Good luck.

muhahahaha ;P got my SGS2 back today.. with 0 cost <3 got to love finnish customer service..
ps. no i didnt lie anything to the reseller.. told him i got it abit wet and it started to act...

which rom are u using? if u have stock se rom then have u tried "Factory Reset"? i am not sure if it removes rooting/xrecovery but no harm in trying...
I had to send my phone for repair (vibrator not working) last October. I had rooted it and installed a generic 2.1 and still the accepted to service it.
It you want a proper stock-state, you definetely need a USB connection to flashtool or SEUS. So no choice, just send the phone 'as is'.
the USB fault is a very common fault with the x10 so the company dealing with repairs might not even look into the software side of it. the repairs are dealt with by big companies who deal with lots of manufacturers and phones so they arent the sort to really care. they just fix it then send a bill to SE
the first phone i sent back was rooted and debranded and they just swapped it .
another option is to find someone who is good with electronics to fix it. it is really simple , the USB port just needs re-soldering (the solder will of cracked off) through the board
Resoldering might void the warranty isn't it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Fortunately i've got backup of stock and rooted , but i just need to delete recovery. BTW as i said be4 i sent x1i to repair with broken case and they sony ******* sent me phone back with message : phone has been modified
Ps: also phone module stopped working ... I cannot leave airplane mode ...

I Think I'm Bricked...

I think I've bricked my Galaxy S II.. I got it yesterday and tried to flash 2.3.5. When I was flashing with Odin, the program went unresponsive and crashed. There was nothing else to do but take out the battery.. I shouldn't have done it, but I did. And now it won't turn on at all. I've tried the 3 button method, for download mode, and a jig from my old i9000. Nothing has worked. The screen wont even turn on. I don't know what to do... Help Please??
you need a jtag.If it wont go into download or recovery its gone.
What do you, Jtag? I've got a usb jig, does that work? Or are they the same thing?
*What do you mean
aren't jigs phone-specific?
Any new info on this? Did jtag worked or whatever. I keep eye on this thread but looks like OP disappeared. Genuinely curious what happened with the phone.
Hmm .. very wierd that phone wont turn on ... i have broken Odin flashes purposedly many times myself but always I can get back into it ...
You could try power drain ... remove battery ... press power on button for 10 seconds (WITHOUT BATTERY IN) ... now put battery back in and try to go into Download mode.
Sorry but i got busy with other stuff but wanted to explain to him about the JTag.Its a special box called a RiffBox JTag and what it does is basically wipes the motherboard/bootloader and in most phones repears the bootloader aswell of a fully bricked phone so it can be put into download mode again letting you re-flash via Odin and thus saving your phone.A little miracle that means no more bricked phones. There doesnt seem to be that many around and to buy they aint cheap at all but if you can find a dealer or a phone shop who has one they can do it for you.For example.I bicked my phone and was going to buy the box on ebay.es imported (in spain there isnt any for sale) for 160euros complete or 140 without cables.Searched this site:
http://www.jtagbox.com/riff-jtag-bo...s-unbrick-bricked-phone-riff-box-owners-list/
and found a shop in Barcelona who did it for me for 35euros plus postage "BARGIN!!!!".If you search youtube and google for RiffboxJtag in your country you should find someone with a unit willing to help out or check the link ive given as it has a list of users worldwide.
EDIT:A jig is not a JTag.A jig will boot your SEMI-BRICKED(phone showing some kind of life ex.classic icon of phone/arrow/computor,menu and back arrow lights work e.t.c.) phone into download mode.A FULLY-BRICKED(dead,no signs of life.wont start.no download, recovery, lights nothing.DEAD!!!) phone needs a JTag
@cooza , Thanks for that explanation and site I even found one near me, that some day might come handy.
I must ask now to further clear my doubts, this riffjtag box, like you said is able to "revive" or "unbrick" _any_ bricked SGS2? No matter how bad is it? Im kinda new around these things and trying to suck up as much info/knowledge possible, before I decide to flash/root/?brick? xD haha ( hope not for last one) my phone.

Hi.As i said before there are semi and hard bricked phones.A semi bricked phone can normally be booted into download mode with the 3 button combo or a jig and your away again. It has the usuall symbol of a phone and a PC with a warning sign in the middle of them.Hard bricked is when the bootloader is damaged and there is basically no return. You got yourself a very expensive paper-weight for the office desk. Its like trying to turn on your phone with no battery in it.Dead, gone and not coming back. Before the Riffbox the only solution was the rubbish bin or maybe change the motherboard(but a few years ago that was an extremely pricey task if possible). Now we have the box.You can screw you phone to the point of no return and still the box will bring it back to life as it wipes the motherboard and in the case of the SGS2 also repears the damaged bootloader which is what boots your phone to start with. One thing to know, and i dont know if it happens to everyone but mine came back with 2.3.3 installed but there was no recovery mode.If this happens all you have to do is re-flash via Odin a more reciente firmware WITHOUT PIT FILE and yourll get recovery mode back at reboot.Obviously youll need to plug in your phone before hand to re-install the drivers.Same with Odin.boot to download, plug in,installs, unplug, then open Odin and flash.
EDIT:yourve got my name there so if something ever happens and you need a hand to re-flash after a jtag just send me a private message. Here to help.

Thank you mate! I am getting my SGS2 this week so ive been doing alot of reading and research about everything. Thanks for your contribution and kind offer to help if ever comes to that. Very appreciated.
No worries mate.truth is its very hard to fully hard-brick an i9100.The main thing to watch out for,and its a mistake that first-time users/flashers have done,is to flash there i9100 phones with i9000 firmware by mistake. An SGS is not an SGS2 and if they are mixed you WILL hard-brick your device. Here on XDA everything is clearly marked and on their right pages so you cant go wrong if you take your time dont rush-in.But just in case you havnt seen it heres the thread:
Firmwares:

CF-Root Kernels: (if you feel the need)

Hi, dont bother faffing with it mate, if you have only had it a day take it back and tell them it wouldnt boot after an automatic Kies update. If they cant turn it on they wont know you bricked it until it gets back to the factory and to be honest after selling 10 million of these babies they wont even bother checking it out, they'll just put it into spares or straight recondition it.
I did the same thing to my xoom, PC world couldnt turn it on so they just gave me another.

[Q] Can I get warranty back doing this? (3 questions)

I have a few questions, I'll put them up right away so the impatient may avoid reading my boring story. Beneath the questions are my explanation.
1. It seems to me the flash counter only goes up when I flash non-original firmware. I've flashed twice; once to root, then once again to go back to stock. My counter says 1. Am I correct in assuming this, then?
2. My phone came with astrange and, I think, not widely used firmware called XWKG1. Can I upgrade to ICS using any method, ie. will any ICS-ROM work with my phone?
3. Then I can root, and use Triangleaway to reset flash-counter, right?
And if the answer to question #1 is "yes", I could flash back to stock and have no warranty problems?
Backstory:
I - like many others - downloaded some ROM to get root on my phone. That's all I wanted, just root, no custom UI or anything, so I just downloaded something called CF I think? I'm not very knowledgable about all this, so bear with me.
Now the USB connector and battery is starting to get real weird. In short; my phone thinks USB cable is connected all the time; my phone won't start (says battery is too hot) unless I have a charger plugged in; strange driver issues when trying to connect the phone to a PC, the device is not recognized about 80% of the time; battery drains SUPER quickly. And more probably.
Now this sounds like a hardware issue to me, and should be covered by the warranty no matter if I choose to root my phone or not. But I'm worried Samsung may not share my opinion there. I've flashed back to stock firmware I got with my phone (XWKG1 - I bought my phone from a French company operating in Norway called Pixmania, which gave me this strange version), and the yellow triangle is gone. But flash counter says 1. This could be a problem.
I'd send it back to pixmania straight away. I'm in Norway, I've used pixmania abefore, they're quick and helpful, and I'd guess they'll replace it straight away.
To be honest, I can't remember if stock flashing increases the counter or not. Buy a jig anyway, they're cheap and useful.
Don't think your firmware's that strange, pretty sure I had XWKG1 at some point. Old yes, strange no.
Thanks for the answer. So Pixmania won't just send it to Samsung who will reject it? Have you tried sending rooted phones to them? My phone doesn't have any external damage, but it is currently not covered under Samsungs warranty!
Also, don't know if an USB jig would work since the phone's USB-port is so broken.

Yep, rooted my brother-in-law's SGS last year. He returned it to pixmania because his home button wasn't working, got a replacement within a week. He'd forgotten it was rooted, but pixmania either didn't notice or didn't care.
Assuming you flashed via a USB/PC connection before , it's probably worth the risk to try 2 and 3. Or if you don't want to risk your USB port, try Mobile Odin.

Thats what it is .

When ICS is released it should upgrade .
But not if you root or put custom firmware Kies may no longer offer the iCS upgrade . You wil have to flash a stock ICS firmware .

Questions regarding Jtagging An Sgs2

Hello
I have a question to do with the jtag, actually a couple of questions.
So here is what happened:
I have (or had :crying: ) an samsung galaxy s2 and I think I have hard bricked it, don't know how tough. I was prompted to download the updates for the apps i have on the play store, afterwards i came across an error saying something like 'failed to install'. And after that everything started crashing, so i thought a restart would do the trick and fix it. So i left it for about 5 minutes and the it still hasn't shut down, so the best thing i could think of was to take out the battery, afterwards i couldn't turn it on(No vibration, screen was black) I have tried the usb jig and failed (either because i was using Stock ICS or probably because the bootloader has been messed up somehow), So the last thing i could try is to send it off to a company near my area who jtag phones(already found one).
The cost is not that big so it doesn't really matter to me (only £25) and im about 99.9% sure that i will do this, but i just want to know a couple things to be sure before i send it off to be jtagged.
1. Does my whole phone memory get deleted in the process?
2. Will a jtag solve my problem?
3. After the riff box or something other has finished jtagging my phone, will i be able to use the phone normally and be able to flash roms?
4. Does jtagging affect anything else other than the software (bootloader, modem etc....) ?
5. Will jtagging my phone bring any thing extra (except the fact that it will work :3 )?
And also i am not really worried if it don't ever work any more because i do have any other sgs2 that i can use but having 2 would be better for my personal use ( long story about why). Any answers will be appreciated. And sorry if i posted this in the wrong sub-forum but i guess it is mostly questions so i think i got it right.
Thanks
If you haven't rooted or installed a custom rom, send it for warranty repair. No need for Jtag.

i have rooted and installed custom rom's on it many times, but i have reset my flash counter using some program by an xda dev. i dont seem to have a warranty and i'm willing to pay £25 for the jtag so that i don't have to wait long for my phone to be back where it belongs i just want to know a couple of things before i send it off
Well, as far as I know, Jtag brings your phone back into clean factory working state. And I think the entire memory is wiped.
A new bootloader is installed as well since the phone cant be booted. When the bootloader is screwed, the phone is bricked beyond repair for the user. Everything stock is installed, similar to flashing stock rom.
After that you can flash roms again like nothing happened.
And Jtag doesnt bring anything else than a working phone.

Thanks for the answer, i was hoping it wouldn't wipe the memory (Internal 16gb that i have) because i have data on it that would be useful for me but as long as i get this phone working i'm happy Thnaks again
Well, you could ask the serviceman what could be done with the data...
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
I asked but no luck :L, because of how jtagging is done there is no way of retrieving the memory its self. Now i know to always use external SD cards. I still don't get how it happened though since i wasn't flashing anything and haven't flashed anything for the past 2-3 months

Is my S2 hardbricked?

Hi I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this question but I didnt see a better one.
So.I got my SGS2 two weeks ago on Thursday (used,no warranty) and I was very happy with it ... only the fact that it seemed to be an issue ob Android 4.1.2 to drain the S2's battery like hell...so .. I flashed some custom roms (still based on JB) but nothing really happend...so I tried to flash back to 4.0.4 (which I have done before to update to stock JB again) and it got stuck on the repartition ..
Oh my ... I noticed something while writing.I flashed those files:
"[CSC] I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3_HOME"
"[PDA] I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3_HOME"
"[PHONE] I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3_HOME"
So .. I was JUST looking for the PIT file I flashed .. and .. looking on my desktop I noticed that theres an "s1_odin_20100512"...but when I flashed it before I used "u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4" which was in the package with the CSC,PDA and PHONE files above. So MAYBE I accidently used the S1 PIT file for flashing and that couldve been the reason why it got stuck.
However..it got stuck on the repartition so I took out the battery and wanted to restart the phone...and yeah .. didnt work.nothing works anymore .. no download mode, no boot, no recovery (no boot) .. BUT when I plug it to the USB cable it gets warm near the camera lens.So ive done some research and some spoke about a USB jig that might help.Ive ordered it but it still didnt arrive so Im stil waiting for it but im still trying to find a solution ... I got to this page [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242[/URL] and it says in the first post:
"Symptoms of 4.0.4 HARDBRICK :
-Phone dead
-No power up

-No charging (usb/ac)
-Not detectable by pc / jtag
-Usb jig & jtag useless
-With battery(charged) inserted, phone(off) gets hot near the camera lens
-JUST A PIECE OF PLASTIC !!!!
-You feel really stupid about trying all this new stuff"
Theres no software on the phone at the moment as I made a factory reset and all this typical pre-flashing preparation but all those symptoms are correct .. So .. what could I do now?Is it hardbricked?Or is there anything I can do since I maybe flashed the S1 PIT ... ?! its the first time something went wrong while flashing and I think I cant afford another phone so fast as Im only 15 years old...so .. I hope someone can help me...

Try once the 'UsbJig' u ordered arrives, if the phone doesn't respond to it then IMO a 'Jtag' or a Motherboard replacement is the option left
never use a 'Pit' file unless and until ur shure of what ur doing

So .. what could I do now?Is it hardbricked?Or is there anything I can do since I maybe flashed the S1 PIT ... ?! its the first time something went wrong while flashing and I think I cant afford another phone so fast as Im only 15 years old...so .. I hope someone can help me...

As I said, its the first time ever that something went wrong for me while flashing...however.going to do a JTAG soon..thanks
No.....Don't jtag....the way things stand....you still have warranty.....if you use jtag, Samsung WILL notice and will claim 'unauthorised rework' which will be used to deny warranty repair......
I assume that recovery and download modes are not available? and that you get no indication on the screen when you plug your charger in?
That being the case, not even Samsung can revive it, so there will be no evidence that the phone has been modified.
Take it to Samsung and 'play dumb'
Tell them you connected it to Kies and tried to update....the phone switched off then wouldn't switch on again.......
DON'T mention XDA
DON'T mention BRICK
DON'T mention .PIT
DON'T mention ODIN
DON'T mention CUSTOM ROM
DO blame KIES and UPDATE
ONLY if all that fails, should you consider jtag.......
Edit....forget all that.....just re read your OP and seen you stated you don't have warranty......though depending on where you live, Samsung sometimes offers a two year warranty.......
