After the AWS hack two days ago I bought an i717 yesterday which I expect to get next week. Does the device have an SVG drawing app or can one get from Android Market^W^WGoogle Play?
Tell me what SVG is and i probably have an answer fir ya. I've tried dozens of drawing and graphics apps since i got my note.
That's just a popular vector image format. For example, com.brakefield.id (Infinite Design), de.nj.workspace (Vector Draw Beta), air.com.adobe.ideas (Adobe Ideas) are such apps but I am not sure how Note optimized they are or how well they utilize the S-pen. What I am after really is easy flowcharting.
I'm interested in this front a drawing perspective. You named the apps I've seen. Though it should be noted that adobe ideas doesn't run on the note (gb). I would be super happy if it did.

Zarch!
One of my old time favourite pastimes as a teenager.. Basically defender in 3D..
I noticed someone has done a linux remake of it..
But how, if at all, can I install a .tar file to my Streak?? or how could it be modified to run??
Quoted as " maybe better known as "Virus" on the Commodore Amiga. Linux Zarch is one of the very few freely available 3D graphics games available for UNIX/Linux that offer a very decent performance without needing 3D hardware support. "
Hmm, NO 3D support required?? Sounds like a winner.... The archimedes was an ARM based Acorn machine..
Is there an emulator anywhere?? we could run frontier and tempest 2000 maybe too if there was...
Our massive screen would be a great home for this title!!
Does anyone have any constructive advice here please??
1987
"Zarch" was written in three months in 1987 by David Braben as a launch title on Acorn's Archimedes series of computers. Another game, "Lander" was bundled with the machine, which used a cut down version of the landscape from Zarch as a demonstration of the machine's power. It became synonymous with the Archimedes, since it was featured in almost every review of the machine, and is apparently still the best selling title of all time on the Archimedes. The game consisted of a weird craft flying over a rolling patchwork quilt landscape, and many other games since (Zeewolf etc) have copied this technique.
Zarch was exceedingly well reviewed at the time, as most other games were either 2D platformers, or wire-frame 3D - hence the now seemingly amazing tag line on the cover of ACE magazine (now Edge) SOLID 3D - the future of games? Zarch was reviewed with a score of 979 - the highest rating ACE had given at that time (and only subsequently bettered by Virus at 981)
1988
"Virus" built on Zarch and was published by British Telecom (under the Firebird name) for the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, and IBM PC in 1988. It was an instant success as many people had seen "Zarch" on the Archimedes but had not been able to play it on the more popular computers of the time. "Virus" won "16 bit Game of the Year" at the Computer Industry's InDin awards of 1988 and was later (incredibly) ported to the Spectrum in the following year by Steve Dunn. Most magazines gave it their top rating, and it got the highest ever score of 981 in the industry's leading magazine "ACE".
Chris Sawyer (now of Rollercoaster Tycoon fame) did the PC port, and later went on to work on PC "Elite+" and PC "Frontier: Elite II".
Zarch and Virus very much raised the ante for games on the 16 bit platform. It was one of the first solid 3D games. It was the first to have 3D lighting effects and shadowing. In fact it generated the shadow silhouettes on the fly - also a first.
1998
"V2000" is the sequel to Virus. It was published by Grolier Interactive on PC and Playstation in October 1998 and was very well reviewed (PC Zone Classic 90%, and five full pages in Edge magazine). It then went on to be one of only three nominees for best game of the preceding few years in the first BAFTA Awards in 1998.
In V2000 the player has to save 30 worlds from a virus menace that has infected them, and from the creatures that brought this virus. The game very much shows it's traditional gaming heritage in that the later worlds are very difficult to complete, but contain a feast of novel game play features. There has been some criticism of the difficulty, but also huge praise from hard-core gamers.
I guess that's a no then.........
However My love for my streak is utterly redeemed!!
Found a ROM for the UAE4DROID app and it plays very well apart from the lack of fire button.. sad.gif
Sound is stable and the gfx are smooth as.
I had to enable the keyboard to press space after I had kickstarted it, which took me to the loader,
from there it was just a case of using the onscreen fire button as the thruster.
I just dragged onscreen to pitch and yaw the ship.. it works a treat and is a beauty to control!
I'll do a youtube filmy if anyone is interested..
And there's so many amiga games to try yet... sensible soccer and cannon fodder are next..
along with Elite and Frontier.. shame the onscreen keyboard isn't configurable and smaller..
I wonder if it will work with a bluetooth keyboard.. I'd be keen to hear from anyone trying it.
So I really want a Android 3.x Tab. and I really don't want an iPad 1 or 2. So since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB is $499 and got a good review and thought it would be great!
So....
Should I go pick one up or should i wait?
Way I see it it's a good buy if you want something now...
There are things that I know are coming but are probably not until early to mid next year and these are...
300+ DPI screen (much brighter and more battery efficient too!)
and
Quad Cores with a decent GPU included (Tegra 2 GPU is meh)
I love the slim and lightness of the 10.1
I wont get another tablet until it has those features and is equally as light and thin and I know there wont be anything coming out this year that ticks all those boxes.
Also Galaxy Tab is unlocked and was the official Google dev tablet so you know you're going to get good support here on XDA
It's a great tab but Samsung can be pretty sluggish with bringing out updates and imho they've messed up with the 10.1/10.1v/GoogleIO 10.1 model confusion and appear to be more interested in generating promotional materials than supporting their user base.
The Samsung app suite has little or no publicly listed support for the 10.1 range - even though they have the apps on the devices (take a look at samsung apps, samsung drive, etc for an example of what devices they support).
I love my Samsung 10.1v - but if was buying again for the first time - I'd consider the Asus Transformer a little more. They've been a bit more proactive with pushing out updates.

I thought the Xoom was the only Google Experience Tablet? If Samsung pushes out Touchwiz doesn't that change the GT10.1 from the standard software?

I'm hoping the Touchwiz skin really is only skin deep and that we can switch back to stock Honeycomb without issues. I wouldn't be surprised if Google is twisting the manufacturer's arm to make this be the case.
TouchWiz isn't just a launcher - it's pretty pervasive.
It looks like at least some TouchWiz components will be needed just to get updates. Currently you need a Samsung account (part of the suite of apk's installed with TouchWiz) to update the firmware.
Not that TouchWiz is all bad. Once you remove many of the widgets from the Homescreens - it's fairly pleasant to use.
The most important aspect needed is restyling the theme & some perf enhancements then I think most people will be happy.

I suppose so... That still doesn't change that 2000 devopers got 10.1 tabs though haha

FWIW, Tegra 3 is due out later this year, though I expect you are right that they probably won't be as thin/light as the Galaxy. Motorola and Asus are among the first ones due out with Tegra 3 tablets, and at least in the case of the Asus, I expect the form factor will be similar to the current device, since compatibility with the existing dock is expected.

The initial ones were unlocked, but it appears that newer ones are starting to show up locked. Personally, I wouldn't expect better "XDA support" on the Galaxy vs. others.

True but keep in mind they were given out by Samsung not by Google.
The only thing I don't like about the 10.1 (and pretty much every other honeycomb tablet) is that they're all Tegra 2 and frankly... it stinks. It can't do 720p playback very well and the GPU "acceleration" is still quite choppy. I'm not sure why Samsung didn't just stick their Exynos into the tab but I suppose the drivers just aren't available in Honeycomb. It's a bit strange having a phone that's WAY more powerful even underclocked at 500mhz my Galaxy S2 still records and plays back 1080p fine. I can dump 1080p MKV files from my computer with no formatting onto the phone and it plays them back flawlessly while the tablet can't even play back 720p MKV's without problems.
The main thing that I want to use the tablet for is browsing on a bigger screen... which is alright but the browser is just not as smooth as "other" fruit flavored tablets. Also when not in landscape mode the thing just gets even more choppier. It feels like I'm beta testing Honeycomb for them...
I was also looking at the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer.
I have an ASUS Laptop and wondered how good the quality of the Eee pad is if anyone knows.
I returned mine. So for me, I'm going to wait. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was pretty nice piece of hardware. Most of my complaints were with Android 3 though. I just don't think it's ready for primetime. I had way too much frustrating issues with it and too many app crashes.
For the $600 I spent on the 32GB model, I wanted something with more polished software. My $200 Nook Color performed better with Android 2.3 (CM7).
I'm going to wait for tablets with Android 4 to launch, and preferably something without a Tegra 2 processor.
Samsung makes a crazy number of phones, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a new thin tablet later this year for Android 4 also.
Not sure where everyone's beef with Tegra 2 is coming from. From a raw processing power standpoint, the Tegra 2 is better than Exynos and only falls behind the newer OMAP 4.
Is everyone here running the 720p videos from the device? If so, what are the files encoded by? I want to try and see if I have the same results. I stream all kinds of videos through DLNA to my Tab 10.1 and I've only noticed choppy playback on some high definition AVI files - never really took the time to troubleshoot the issue.

Isn't part of the Tegra 2's problem it's lack of Advanced SIMD that everyone else seems to have?
The new TI OMAP 4 1.5GHz dual core and Nvidia Tegra 3 1.?GHz quad core both coming in Q3 got to be big performance improvements over the Tegra 2 that came out Q4 last year (feels older than that).
I'm quite confident that Samsung's TouchWiz will come with a much faster way of playing back videos. This was the case with the stock Galaxy S series of phones. They are all still the most capable phones of playing back DivX etc when running TouchWiz...
My guess is mid next year Samsung will release a equally thin and light tablet with their latest 300+ dpi screens and a quad core processor that will handle everything that honeycomb offers without a stutter... Can't wait for it... Until then I've got my slim light Tab 10.1 that does the job and works great with my Android phone and Google services
Yes, releasing a Tegra2 tablet now is pretty late. They had their shot with 10.1v but messed up nearly everything. And with Samsung support, this device won't see a shiny future. Despite all confusion Samsung doesn't say a damn word !
Then there is the missing sd slot and ports. We even got a worse 3MP cam while the 10.1v had a 8mp one. A step in the wrong direction.
Win8 beta is close (1-2 months), apple announced ipad3, tegra3 is coming too.
A massive change is going to happen until next year. Lots of arguments against the 10.1.
GT10.1 prices will drop big time soon. 300 bucks in ~3 months i guess.
Last week I was totally hyped but now it's getting easier to wait.
Still no release in EU. There must be some massive problems with that device.
I'm considering returning mine. There are a couple of little things that makes using the tablet as my main device a bit frustrating like moody text selection, keyboard disappearing randomly sometimes, choppy videos (was trying to stream Friday Night Lights on NBC's site, and it couldn't get through the first 10 mins), lack of honeycomb optimized apps, no Netflix, and even using Facebook thru the browser is quirky.
I have 2 more days to decide, and I'm looking into just waiting for the new Samsung Series 3 notebooks to come out also.
Hm, I checked the hits on xda. There are only 10k posts for the GT10.1 while the transformer has 45k.
Could it be low interest for this device?
I think it's more that the Asus has been out longer, and is also the most-sold Android Honeycomb tablet thus far.

I did a quick wiki search on Advanced SIMD (I hadn't heard about it prior to you informing me ) and the technology looks more like it's applied to much slower ARM processors than the ones we find in tablets. Wikipedia specifically mentions acceleration for speech decoding and MP3 audio decoding at extremely slow speeds (15 MHz and below). Does this technology also apply to decoding videos, etc, at 1,000 MHz? I could see this possibly affecting something like playing MP3s while the device is in standby, but I don't know much about this technology.
When I use the Tab (and my 7" tab as well) I'm normally streaming video from TVersity on my PC to my tab via UPnPlay & Mobo video player (on my Tab 10.1) or AllShare on my 7" tab. I also watch flash videos (up to 720p - that's the highest res video I've tried). All work very well - there is some minor stuttering with the flash video from the stock browser, I would say it will drop a few frames once every 5 minutes.
I also do some filesharing over my network - such as transferring PDF files from my PC and viewing them on my Tab. I know that's not related to the video conversation - but that works pretty smoothly as well.
I have been trying to develop a note taking app on my galaxy tab 10.1 and I kept having issues with handwriting. The accuracy was horrible. I could hardly make out what I wrote. I tried a couple things, but I'm fairly new to Android development. So, instead I ran to the local Best Buy to try out some other tablets. The Transformer and the Acer looked so much better when I tried writing in a paint app. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, can this be fixed on software or is this a hardware issue? I hope I can fix it. Note taking was a large reason I bought it. I may just return it and get the transformer.
Just a note, I used the same paint app to compare all three.
Which applications are you using ?
program
I was using the Free version of Kids Doodle. I've tried a couple of applications with touch screen writing and they all seem to have the same problem. I also tried a capacitive pen and that didn't seem to make a difference.
I dont have a stylus , but using the above program I dont see any issue with accuracy.
If you do a loooooong stroke like an endless circle it does trail behind slightly.
Perhaps a video for comparison would help.
I'll try to take a video when I get home...
I read through the post in your signature about the Acer v Tab comparison. I then read through the link you posted about the GPU acceleration. Could my issue be an issue with GPU acceleration. It seems to happen the most if I try to write at a "regular" pace. I saw someone mention input flooding. Are there just too many input points and it starts skipping points? I don't know why this would be different on the Asus and Acer. I did notice that the ASUS (and the Acer?) seem to have 3.1 slightly modified. It didn't seem to be vanilla Android. Could they have added some GPU acceleration?
If that is the case, maybe the update from Samsung with Touchwiz will help the situation.
My head is just spinning because I really wanted to use the Android tablet for some decent note taking. I'm thinking it is not going to happen, even if I put in the time to develop it. It's a little frustrating.
Are you saying that you don't see any lag on the gtab or the Acer? I wasn't sure which one you had.
Hey there, just got lucky and got a TP in time for xmas.
Now I do have a few questions;
Is there a way to hide folders in the Asus Myzine gallery? I've created .nomedia files with no success. I still get the cover of Alice in Wonderland in the gallery...
Does anyone know if there are differences between a game on the Market and in the Tegra Zone? I got shine runner last week at the 10c sale, but Tegra Zone doesn't see it's installed. So I'm wondering whether to just shell out 10c more to check for differences...
I have to say I'm a bit shocked that there's almost no Android Market games marked compatible. That is a big bummer.
So far I have to say my Galaxy S2 is waaay snappier than this thing. Still, nice and after all it's"only" honeycomb...
the few games i clicked on in tegrazone just linked me to the market, so i'm going to guess that most of them are the same, it's just another portal to find them...
there's a bunch of games that work with it, i have about 15 on my prime right now...it's probably just a matter of the devs marking them as compatible, which they will (hopefully) get to after the holidays.
Theres a bunch of games thats compatible with the prime. check out my thread in this section called Prime/tegra3 Gamers Thread. Theres an ongoing list of games that are working on this device. Tegrazone games are optimized ones. as far as shine runner goes, if it has the water effects where water splashes on the screen then you have the right one. Alloy of tones the optimized apps will say Thd behind them or say Tegra2/tegra3 optimized in the description.
Hi everyone Noob here,
Just wondering if anyone has tried the now famous Visible body app on Android that was just released in the Amazon market place a few weeks ago.
I'm thinking of getting it, but I've been so disappointed with medical/anatomy applications on android platforms that I'm skeptical. I've tried others: Blausen 3d, anartica, etc.....non have reached there potential. Visible body is ranked the best app for ipad etc....
My device: samsung galaxy tablet 10.1 rooted
By the way if you're a medical profession/student with an android tablet a must have is touchscreentune app with a Adonit Jot Pro Stylus. It truley makes your tablet useful in the hospital

It looks just like Google Body, which is free. Have you tried it out?
Visible Body, Zygote Body, Biodigital Human
Looks like zygote body (formerly google body) but there are alot of differences.. I went ahead and got Visible body from the amazon marketplace for my galaxy tablet 10.1. At first I was hesitant because I assumed it would probably be optimized more for the Kindle Fire than a larger tablet, but the app still works great. I really don't get why they don't include the app in google play... perhaps they will soon.. The app runs smoothly throughout. The app is simply classified according to organ system and location with the use of thumbnails to search. One can also simply click on a specific body part and choose othere areas to make transparant or hide all together. The layout is the best I've seen of all the human body apps i've tried thus far. Although there was some lag when bringing up some body sections, the lag tendency seemed to increase only in body sections that included more than 2 organ systems in a given thumbnail.. For example if I choose a coronal slice of the abdomen that includes elements of the digestive tract (stomach, intestine, pancreas), skeletal vertebrae, nervous system and parts of the blood vasculature, the app seems to have more trouble loading the various systems together and slows down when you try to zoom, rotate or select certain body parts. However this is only a small quibble as the app seems to work faster the longer I'm analyzing particular section (perhaps this is only a loading issue).
As far as human anatomy/physiology apps in general go, visible body is the most well rounded out of the 3 I consider legitimate....the other two being zygote body (google) and biodigital human (both which are free and webbased). The biggest advantage of visible body is speed. Since it is a fully downloaded app, all the information is in the system so no need for internet connection/browser issues. The rendering and layering effects are best this way and most areas of the body are included. Zygote body is very slow to load even in a webgl/html5 supported browser like google chrome. Biodigital human was moderately faster but still lagged in speed in comparison to visible body. I want to include that I was able to find a very early version of google body on some obscure website which included the entire application. It worked great, fast and very accurate. Unfortunately it only included the female anatomy with barely any labels.
One issue I have with all 3 apps are detalied information. Granted, me being a medical student, I'm more detail oriented than some who want to use the app just as a reference.
Google/zygote body is the worst in this aspect. If you visit their website, type in a search for the human eye and you will know what I mean. It will lead you to the general area of the eye and bring up "eye lashes" You would think that with an organ as profound as the eye there would at least be a label for. One benefit of google's system is the search function, but with few body parts labeled and no reference information included, the app seems more like an unfinished digital version of a cadaver in anatomy class that I have to pin myself.
Biodigital human is probably the most complete our of the three in terms of level of detail and references (Using the eye example again ) I was excited to see that when I search the human eye, the app was so detailed as to include the different areas of the eye including the lens, vitreous, iris, and each selection brought up a list of related disease specific to that area, as well as a link to some internet rescourse (mostly wikipedia). It's graphical detail was also the most complete. For example, a search of the human retina showed details of even the central retinal veins and arteries drawn in on the retina within the graphics of the retina itself. This is something that zygote body, and even visible body are no where close to. I was actually looking forward to using this app above all, but sadly it only works only on desktop (the version I tried) or on a tablet with an advanced browser like google chrome beta (haven't tried myself) on Ice Cream Sandwich. The app requires web gl/html5 and advanced graphics to work and no current android browser on honeycomb tablet supports it's advanced graphics (I tried Opera....no luck)
So for now Visible Body it is and I'm not disappointed, Biodigital Human, when it becomes available on android as a regular app is my next must have. sorry for being so long, but nobody seems to go into detail about medical apps on the internet (besides imedical apps....which they focus too much on ipad related applications)
