I made the mistake of letting the battery drain completely while in standby in my View so I put it on the charger last night and it doesn't seem to be charging. Its been at least 8 hours plugged in with the factory charger and not even so much as the charger light has turned on. I can try my phone charger but i think that will just take longer. How long should I wait before I start to really worry?

I had my View go completely out. I plugged it in and turned it on, and it charged up. Now I do a hard power off (I use the "Quick Boot" market app, but one could also simply hold the power button down for 20 seconds). If the device is simply powered off with the switch, it still consumes power, at least in my case.
Yea I know about that. My view was in standby with me just tapping the power. I'm going to try putting it in the freezer when I get home and see if that helps it to charges again.

Also, try pushing the power button in while it is plugged in. Mine did not show charging either until I tried to power it on.
BTW, a battery produces it's highest power when warm, not cold. It stores better in the cold...
Oh I tried powering it on while plugged in. Didn't make a difference.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
well the freezer didn't seem to make any difference. At least not other than making it cold. Only left it in there for 20 minutes, maybe it has to go longer. Just tried a repair shop and they want 50 to open it open and then 75 more IF they can fix it.

What ROM are you using? The View and Flyer charger (inside the unit) is software controlled. If you don't have a good recovery load, it won't charge when it's powered down. You may have to open it up and disconnect the battery then connect the battery directly to a charger. There is a thread on how to do this.
Interesting. I will have to look up the thread on doing that.
Rom is Desensedview 1.5.

so i came from the evo 4G where people threw hissy fits both ways. There were people who would claim left and right that it is bad for the battery, that the battery will catch fire, melt, explode, what have you, and then there was the other like 80% of us who used trickle charging with out a problem.
personally, and what I seemed to notice, the like 6 people who actually claimed to have issues with trickle charging had purchased and were using super cheap chinese batteries.
So i am going to disagree, and say there will be no issue with trickle charging unless you start using cheap chinese batteries, and even then the percentage chance of you having an issue is so minor.
I have noticed that until it gets to 100% it gets awfully hot. If I leave it charged/plugged in all day its cool to the touch.

looking at battery monitor widget my phone after hitting 100% charge is pulling 180 or less mA while "idle" and the temp sits about 32-33C. Seems to keep the Voltage very very steady. Whatever HTC did I really doubt it will hurt your phone in anyway.
I don't think it will hurt the phone. I do think it will make the battery have even less life though. I.e, when you finally do unplug it, the battery won't last very long. Batteries need to be charged and discharged often to work well.
My laptop at home stays plugged in all the time. And when I unplug it, it lasts about 10 minutes on the battery. lol

No, my statement was 100% true. It might've been irrelevant because it's a different type of battery, but it was not false as you said.
I have read that LiOn batteries do not develop memories as bad as other types, but they still do to some extent. FWIW.
If you watch your phone, it stops charging when its full. I often pull the phone off the charger with less then 100 charge due to this and this is also why the bump charge will bump it back up too 100%
So leaving it plugged in ask day will have no harmful effects at all.

actually battery monitor widget says the opposite. My phone continues to charge after hitting 100%. It doesn't do what my evo would do stock, where it would charge to 100%, let the phone die to 90% and then charge back to 100%.

Personally I never shut my phone off, it's on 24/7/365, if I don't want to be bothered it goes into silent mode but is always on.
For me, I plug the phone in every night when I go to bed... when I wake up, I unplug it for a minute and then plug it back in. Normally when I wake up it's anywhere between 95-100% showing.... Once I'm done getting ready I grab the phone and off I go with a full charged battery.
Unlike some phones the android phones have never kept a 100% charge while plugged in... this is one thing I do miss from the iphone, it always kept it at 100% while plugged in. The android phones stop charging when it get's to 100% and start again at an unkown %.
There is no magic... the only reason for unplulgging it is to start the charging process again.

I doubt it's a problem, it should be capable of switching to a trickle or over to powering vs. charging in the circuitry. The worst thing you can do for these relative to the charge is drain them completely and let them sit drained. These days for the longest life, you'd keep it at around 3/4 charged, but it's not a huge difference in life usually. The reason for that is lithium batteries hold a native charge by default.

You should be good with topping it off before u start using it if you want ur battery to be calibrated or whatever
^ yup... mine has been on the charger for about 30 minutes now... still havent powered it on yet.
Always wondered it that made a damned bit of difference in the long run.
Usually so anxious to dive into it I plug it in and dive.
I'm gonna condition it anyway that night.
Any thoughts?
Doesn't the battery already come fully charged?
They're usually about half charged...and the suggest you fully charge before using.
you can use it, but dont take it off charger until it is fully charged.
and no they dont come fully charged, the phones are partially charged.

I am charging it off my work computer's USB port since the cable won't reach an outlet from my desk so I know my charging will be slower than using an AC outlet

You might wanna charge it using ac power not the usb port....especially if the phone is turned off. If you need to sit it on the floor for it to reach or go look for a powerstrip or something. If its still red it likely not charging.

My battery monitor widget shows an average of 3h 55m for AC charge and 6h 15m for USB charge.
This is for 0-100%. On AC charge, it will go from 10-90% in a little more than an hour.
According to the AC charger itself 3 hours for standard 4 hours for extended. Those are estimates I am sure. And probably with the phone powered down.
Last time mine was totally used up it took about 2 hours.

Nothing. It still trickle charges near peak voltage when the phone is off.
True on the trickle charge, but it's not fighting the drain of keeping the operating system, radio, and other processes going while it's charging. You get a much more complete charge when it's completely off. Also, after it shows the green light, and while still powered down, unplug, and plug in until it lights green again. Repeat a few times until the green light is almost immediate. You will then have reached the full capacity of the battery.
If you have to have your phone 24/7, invest in a couple of extended batteries, and have a standalone charger. The most you will ever be offline because of power is maybe 90 seconds while switching batteries.
One more thing, for those that don't know yet, before powering down, go to Menu, Settings, Power, and untick the fast boot option. That way you will be fully powered down while charging, not just in sleep mode.

I woke up to a dead phone and I have no idea why. Anyways, I get in the car and charge my phone on my way to work and it gets to maybe 15%. I take it into work and plug it in USB and check the phone to see it is almost dying. I got a pop-up message about the phone is currently using to much current for the charger.
It went from 100% to 0% in less than 30 minutes while plugged into the wall.
So I pulled up the battery usage and this is what I see:

Are you using the HTC charger, or something else? A lot of chargers will only put out half the current the HTC charger puts out, and the Rezound draws a lot. I have several chargers, and my phone runs at a discharge on more than one if the screen and/or radios are on. If I set the phone to stay awake when on power, on some chargers it would deplete the battery overnight.
All chargers have a 5v output specification. IIRC the HTC charger is 1000mah. A lot of devices that work on early USB specs will only output 500mah or less. Check your chargers.
How long should our Note II take to recharge from 0% to 100%? Problem with practically all Android phones is that it just takes way too long to recharge. Last night I plugged my Note at about 1AM, depleted all the way down. When I woke up at 7AM, it was still at 70%. Does that sound about right for everyone? I understand that we have a huge battery capacity but the limitation with the microUSB port is definitely there.
no something is not right...my device recharges in 2.5hrs from below 10% to 100%

I've been having this problem too, and I can't really pin it down. I'm using the charger that comes with the S3,which is only rated at 1amp so I know that's the biggest factor. However, sometimes it charges to full in a few hours, other times after a night on the charger it will have only made it to 60% or so. The real stumper is that it only tends to drain about 1-2% an hour in deep sleep, so it's not like it's draining faster than the charger can keep up. It seems completely random. I'm ordering a 2amp charger to see if it helps, im sure it will, but I'm just confused by the random nature of this.
Yea something is definitely wrong. Mine charges in about 2.5 hours from near 0%. Try a different outlet

Yeah about 2-3 hours is my usual charge time from 20% to 0% range respectively.
I still can't help but feel that that is somehow slow though. Can't tell, it's been so long since I had a small battery I don't know what a fast charge is nowadays.
Going from zero is way different than going from 1% the battery tries to protect itself so it trickle charges for a while. Honestly going from 10-100 should not take more than three hours probably closer to two

Hi,
This is what I have found. Sometimes when the microusb end is plugged into the phone that the phone charges at usb rate instead of ac which is wall outlet. I only have this problem with a standard usb cable in the car. Will change it soon but. What you can do after you plug in the microusb into the phone goto settings then battery and see how the phone sees the charging its getting. It will say either usb or ac. Ac is full charge rate usb is much slower since usb like off a pc or laptop has a lower output to your phone.
If you see it takes more than 3 hours to charge your phone and it says ac in settings then you definitely have a problem with either the charger, usb cable or phone.
Thanks,
Bryan
If you're using the cable and charger that came with the phone, you have a problem. Based on what you reported, I'd say you're using a 1A or less charger.
