Hey,
I'm not sure if this has been discussed but I couldn't anything.
Today I received my third prime (the two before had screen issues).
When I tried to connect to my wifi (that worked with both the primes before) the device got stuck at obtaining an IP address. The signal strength was weak, only showing the dot below the 3 bars. I manually updated to ICS hoping it might get better.
Well, same problem in ICS... I did notice however, that whenever I delete the network (including the password, so it won't try to connect anymore) I get full bars. If I type in my password now, I only get the little dot on the very bottom (the first of the four 'bars') again and the device gets stuck at obtaining an IP address again. I'm not sure if this happened in HC as well.
Anyone have an idea?
Try forgetting network then reboot your tablet. Might just be acting funny.
Already tried it, even did a hard reset. Nothing changed.
I just found the problem though. When I tried a static IP address it connected without problems. Turns out the DHCP range was 'full' and I had to make it bigger. It's now connecting without any problems at full reception.
Looks like I can actually keep this one. Thanks for your help!
Glad to hear that. Enjoy your device.
maybe its your network.
static IP works!
I had the exact same problem with my wifi not connecting. tried everything including a factory reset/hard reset. using the static IP worked. go figure. simplest solution.
I had resetted my Prime the other day and lost wifi connectivity... It kept trying to obtain IP address to no avail. Tried everything but still could not get my prime to connect. So finally I decided to manually place the .28 update on to my external SD card. As soon as I plugged that card in the slot, my Prime immediately alerted me to the update. After the update I was able to connect to my wifi network like before! Saved myself a trip to the RMA route Also got my root back thanks to Sparky's new Tool!
The app "Wifi Static" will setup a static IP adress for you automatically.
Alternative buy the High End router ASUS RT-N66U "Dark Night" that has a very, very easy set-up, gives a lot more power output then others routers out there ( 450 mW in US and 100 mW in Europe!) and work seamless with our Asus Prime
Sometimes we loose the wifi signal after screen off and sleep. Then you can use a app callede "Fix My Wifi"...
Use it together with "BarControl" that is a simple app, where you can place apps in the statusbar and activated them witout leaving the actually screen and job.
I use BarControl for "Fix my Wifi" and olso to dimmer my screen darker then normal. I use a app callede "Screenfilter" that is perfect for night time and reading e-books with white sites.
Please notice that Barcontrol only use black letters and therefore it is not possible to read app name in statusbar, Just some of Barcontrols own icons like a sun and a wifi signal. Barcontrol works fine but is very simple. Do you know a app that can do the same ?

Sorry about that, I am using that on my One S phone, not my Prime.
The one I am using on the Prime is Notification Toggle.
The short of it is, my Wifi crapped out for reasons beyond my experiences thus far.
The long of it. I flashed epinter's 07/25/2012 Nightly and everything seemed to be working nicely, Wifi especially. Then today, out running errands and dropped my Atrix in my Car Dock and attempted to turn on Bluetooth for the first time since flashing, and the device froze then restarted. Once back up, I tried turning Wifi back on, and the device froze again and restarted. Thinking maybe the radio driver went south, I grabbed epinter's 07/27/2012 build (epinter-cm10-20120727_1846-UNOFFICIAL-olympus.zip), and still no luck. Back into Recovery, Wiping everything and also factory resetting then flashing twice over again, boot up, still no wifi, and if it manages to seemingly fire up, the device hangs and restarts.
Within the last 2 hours (Been at this for about 12 hours now.) I grabbed Jokersax's build (Beta 0.1.0), wiped/reset/flash twice as I have before. Now as I take a breath I noticed that the Wifi Icon came up in the Notification bar, but when I go into Settings and Scan, I see none of the Networks around me. I looked under Advanced and noticed that my MAC Address is 'Unavailable' nor am I showing an IP address, even though Wifi is saying 'On'. Verified on my Router, my Phone is not connected to it.
Odd Side note, installed aLogcat just to see if I could catch any errors, and it is not giving me anything, that is, I am not seeing any logs through the app. Most likely an unrelated issue, but still a tad annoying.
Everything else seems in order, including Mobile Data (Able to access Web Pages, Market/Play Store, receive email, etc.). Just Wifi pretty much 'Lights are on, but no one is Home.'. Any suggestions on next steps?
We discussed this issue over in some other threads and conclusion is that it's a hardware malfunction Ur broadcom chip is burned, many people (including me) had that problem.

I need to really work on my searching, tried several variations of 'atrix WiFi cm10' and could not pin down a related thread.
But back on topic, CRAP! What I was hoping was not the case. Thanks for the reply, will continue to dig for those threads and cross fingers the chip really is not fried (doubtful but hey, people can dream right?).
Thank you for the reply.

I can't search the threads right now as i am typing from my phone-search is limited to 20-30 posts... But keywords for ur search should be : "atrix wifi error" or "wifi and bluetooth error on atrix" Several forums have this kinda threads, not just xda unfortunately ... seems like it's very often malfunction on this lovely phone. I couldn't repair my previous atrix so i bought another one.

We're talking fastboot wipe kind of clean install? Going to give that a go as a last attempt, will post results here.
Glimmer of hope tonight, was discussing the problem with a friend, went to turn on WiFi and it actually scanned and connected for about 2 minutes before crapping out. This tells me there maybe life to the chip still. Now to get fastboot to connect and try a wipe and see what happens.

Any news on this front? I am one of the afflicted as well.
I'm having a similar issue. though my BT works just fine, no delays, no errors, no intermittance.
Wifi, I can scan for networks just fine. i click on mine to connect. it shows connecting, noting that when it says connecting the signal shows 1 bar as compared to the full set of wifi bars when scanning, i am also right next to the AP. is tries connceting for about 20 seconds or so. then goes back to saying "saved" under the SSID, other networks showing "disabled" when this happens. i originally noticed this after flashing epinters cm10. i tried flashing 37p, 36p and 30p radios with no difference.
EDIT: also want to note that i HAVE disabled the "avoid poor connections" option. and have tried setting static IP.
I flashed the same and I am unable to get my wifi to work after clean wipe, radio install or anything else that I have tried. Could software have really burned up a wifi radio????

Mine works occasionally so I don't think the radio is dead. The rom just acts like it's not there most of the time and doesn't give a mac address. Sometimes it works though after a reboot. Would flashing a different radio help? My baseband version says N_01.77.37P
I had an IP and a MAC, but no wifi internet.
Using mobile data, I downloaded Set DNS and then enabled wifi, works fine.
Now it's working but mobile data is going very very slow, it took 5min to download Set DNS.
I have a skyrocket but the "no wifi" issue is probably the same - your not getting DNS
I'm going back to CM9 for now.
+1 wifi matter under CM10
Try rebooting the router.
Experienced same issue (unable to connect, showing full bars, dropping to 1 bar when connecting and never being able to complete a connection) rebooting my router has fixed the issue. I'm not technical but it might have to do with the DNS release for addresses .. in any case unplugging my router for a bit and restarting it fixed the issue for me.
Hey everyone.
There's something I don't quite understand about the way SGS3 manages the internet connection, whether it's Wi-Fi or 3G. I've seen this same behavior on three SGS3. Let me explain.
When you're connected to Wi-Fi or 3G (or 4G), there's always two little arrows, one green and the other one orange. One is for download speed and the other for upload I guess. This means that when you're checking something that requires data, like a website, a news article on an app, searching for threads on this forum, etc, the orange arrow lights up, showing you it's downloading the data.
Well, this ends up always taking more time than necessary. I had an iPhone 4 and an iPad, and they are way faster on Wi-Fi and 3G. They don't have or show this arrows. It's gets annoying having to wait for the orange arrow to light up a few seconds after I have given the order to load a thread or email or whatever.
I don't understand why the SGS3 works this way. On the iPhone I didn't have to wait seconds for the download process to begin. It was instant. I hit a thread I want to read on tapatalk app and it downloaded the data right instantly. On the SGS3 sometimes the arrows are grey and I have to wait maybe 2 seconds or more for it to turn orange and then start downloading the data.
Why this poor performance? Is this the way Android works or only the SGS3? Because I've seen three SGS3 having this same behavior on shops.
It's annoying sometimes. For example, right now I'm gonna hit send this thread inside the tapatalk app and I will have to wait two seconds after I hit send for the green arrow to light up and then send the data.
Mine is instant. Of cos it will take a long time if the connection isn't good.

Try to do the timing test on some good sites. Sometimes, the site getting slow, or too much traffics can cause the delay. My SGS3 open sites instantly with both Wi-Fi and data line.
Lol mate... They work the same way... The difference is that the ishiit doesn't show it and the sgs3 does...

I've had the same problem with a different device, and never found an answer.
In fact, I trade that phone (Evo 3D) for this S2 (i777).
Heres the thing, for some reason my phone refuses to work on the school's wifi. Its annoying. On my last phone, I thought that it was just that phone, but apparently its not. Now I'm having the same problem on my S2. I can get notifications every now and then but cant use the wifi at all. Sometimes, randomly throughout the day, I can get about 1 - 5 minutes out of it, but then it just stops working again.
I kinda think it has something to do with my Gmail being synced or something, I really have no clue. It has the word "freaking" in it. I just dont think its a coincidence that BOTH phones in a row have the exact same problem. I didnt have the problem with any iPhone I've ever had.
I really need wifi, and I dont wanna get a new phone, so I would appreciate it a lot if some knew what this is about.
It connects and everything. Says it has great signal. Just doesnt work.
Im running the stable CM9.1, straight from the Cyanogenmod website. So its their kernel and all that good stuff. Android 4.0.4.
I know the ROM isnt the problem cause every ROM I flashed on my Evo didnt help at all.
Anyway, any help or tips anyone can give would be great. Thanks!
By the way, the wifi works perfectly fine every where else. Home, College, friend's house. etc.
You need to verify your school does not require special network settings or a proxy.
If you can see the network and connect then its just a settings issue. Have you tried reverting to stock?

I can connect just fine, as normal. It just doesn't allow me internet access.
By stock, do you mean the stock ICS Touchwiz? No. But I guess its worth a try. The only reason I didnt see that as a solution is because on my last phone, I had the same problem whether I was running stock or not.
It sounds like you need a proxy address to access the Internet at your school. Talk to the administrators of the network.

They have proxies restricted from what I know. I dont know too much about proxies, but I tried using a few different proxy apps and none of them worked.
And it doesnt do this to other peoples' phones. Why is it just mine? My other phone was an HTC on Sprint. It just seems like a weird coincidence that both phones have the same problem, and they're two completely different devices. That's why I thought it had to do with Gmail, I know that sounds stupid, but its the only thing the two phones have in common.

Two different phones and same issue. Friends phones work but yours doesn't. You have a PICNIC issue.
Problem in chair not in computer (phone). Talk to the network admin or help desk. You're probably using a wrong setting or password. The admin should be able to help you by looking at the logs.

I get what you're saying, believe me, but I just dont see how its a wrong setting. Its default settings ( until I tinkered around trying to fix it). I assume all of my less-knowledgeable friend's phones are default settings too. So it just doesn't seem to make sense that the default settings on two of my phones are the wrong settings, while every other phone seems to have it right to begin with.
I get what your saying, but I cant just talk to our Tech Guy at our school. It just doesnt work like that at my school. Lol. Thats why I'm asking for help on here.
And I dont think the multiple ROMs I've tried have the wrong defaults also.
Then sit down with a friend and make sure EVERY setting Is the same. Make sure you are both running android and using the same browser. If they are on CM too that would be best.
It sounds like something is blocking you from accessing the Internet while on the schools network. I don't think we will be of much help.

I can try the thing with my friend. Im just really the only one in my group of friends that's into, and actually knows a lot about Android devices. So they dont seem like much help. Haha.
And I was hoping people could tell me some ideas I havent tried yet. I know Android, but I dont know much about wireless networks and all that.
I'd love to help more, but since only one wifi network doesn't work for you it has to be something with that network.

Do you need to log in to your school's network? If so, when you enter your login id, if there's a line for anonymous id too, add your login id there as well. In other words, you have to enter your login id twice. Once where it says "login id" and again for "anonymous id."
If that doesn't work, what would help here is more info about how you connect (WPS, WPA, etc.).

It doesn't require me to log in at all. It worked perfectly fine on my old iPhone without having to log in. And it never redirected me in the browser. I've tried everything I can think of.
Proxies (Dont work)
I've tried static IP.
Factory resetting to stock Android (Every time I restart my phone it works for like a minute.)
BUT, I think I came across something. I compared my settings to a friend's, and his phone showed a different IP address. I'm still not sure if it was the IP to his phone, or to the school. How do I find out which IP is which?
Can anyone explain why it works for a minute or two and then stops?
Have you tried going to: Settings->wifi->advanced (you get to advanced by clicking the menu button) to make sure that:
Keep wifi on during sleep: ALWAYS
Avoid poor connections: UNCHECKED
Frequency band: AUTO
Wifi Region: United States
You may want to uncheck wifi optimization.
Oh, one other thing: you aren't using any battery optimization apps are you? JuiceDefender etc? If so, follow their instructions for uninstalling and uninstall!
Beyond that, I haven't got a clue. And no, your IP address has nothing to do with it. It should be different from your friend's.

i'll appreciate your response.
I am the proud owner of a TF201 that has been sitting unused for over a year because the internet stopped working after working fine for years. My WiFi shows connected with 4 bars but the wifi icon stays grey, not blue. I have put many hours into trying to get this thing to work. I have gone through all the posts on all the forums regarding various reasons and solutions for the grey wifi icon. I have made all the suggested changes to my home wifi to no avail. I have the same problem when connecting to my phone hotspot or any other access point. I don't think it's the hardware and I don't think the problem is with the wifi source. It has to be software on the TF201. So I tried all the fixes for the Android configuration and nothing worked. So finally, in desperation, I did a Factory data reset. I also went into recovery and did a data wipe. So then I boot to a new Android 4.1.1 and enter setup. I can select and connect to wifi but the google login fails because, again, no Internet. So I skip the google login and I am left with naked Android with no Internet. Then I decided maybe I could fix it by flashing a new ROM. But before I can do that I need a custom recovery. But before I can install that I need to unlock and root my TF201. So I finally get the Asus unlock tool installed and run it. Only one small problem, it won't work unless it can verify my google account across the Internet which, of course, is broken. So at this point I'm at a loss. Unless you guys can help me I guess I could sell if for parts on Ebay. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.

Rather than stupid, it would have been brilliant if it only worked. I did try that already but thanks for the suggestion.
I didn't go into too much detail on what I've tried because, ultimately, I was wasting my time. The tablet is getting wifi. It is connected to wifi with 5 bars. The only problem is that they are grey not blue. I've read that blue means full two-way connection with google services and grey means no or partial communication with google. So I can go to the tablet now and select Settings, +Add account, Google, enter an account. It will say "this will take a moment" and then instantly comes back with "Couldn't sign in, Can't establish a reliable connection to the server." If I tell it to create a new Google account it asks for a "name"@gmail.com but rejects every name as "not available" no matter how random/long it is.
Nothing else appears to be wrong with this tablet. Its bone stock, date/time is set, wifi is connected.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

It's mad because what you are describing is the exact same errors that I had when the year was set wrong on my tablet. I also couldn't use browsers or anything because all the certificates were out of date.
I just had a quick google for your errors and the answers it brought up also said the date.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AJSFcWbJOk
I did find another thread as well which mentions editing the hosts file so it might be worth you taking a look here and see if there is anything you haven't tried yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083702
I've found that people are fixing the Google sign-in problem by editing the hosts file and commenting out the address for google's servers. However, you need to be rooted to do this. So does anyone know how to root a TF201 without the ASUS unlock tool? If that's the only way then I have a chicken-and-egg problem with no solution.
Can you ping the tablet from another computer/phone in your house?
Have you tried putting in a static IP and DNS instead of DHCP?
