[Q] Can't find a Kernel for my phone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
I can't find my kernel model anywhere on the internet. Could you please support me with this one? I'm somewhat a newbie at this rooting business.
Settings -> About phone - Kernel Version states 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2
- Build number is "GINGERBREAD.JIKG3".
- Basband Version is I9100TJIKG3
Anyone?
Thank you very much,
RawrGasm

Any gingerbread kernel should work, check out the Galaxy Sii developer section, If you mean you need a stock kernel, I have no idea.

Not true... OP, you need a KG3 kernel. Look in Odia's insecure kernels thread. I'm mobile, so can't link. Just search for it. There's a link near the top that's with big red text for older kernels. Check in there.

I need a KG3 kernel because of what, build number reading KG3 at it's end or the baseband version? Because if it's the Baseband Version, I was wrong, it's KG1 at the end. So tell me please, if my baseband version is I9100TJIKG1, do I need a KG1 kernel?

Pretty sure it's the build version. Baseband is for modem.

Thanks, But as u can see the kernel and baseband are different. Which kernel shd I use? And I don;t understand 95% of the article! lol. I am a super noob!! I appreciate if u can help me make sense of all these things.
KF1 Kernel a kernel is not a baseband .
Kernel is the bit between cpu and OS .Baseband is the modem for network/GPS .
As rooting voids your warranty you should understand what you are doing before carrying out the task .

Well, I have few rooted phones behind me, and honestly, I did not really understand the thread(which is supposed to be for noobs) either... I just picked up one of those Kernels(KF4) and flashed it, phone is working just fine, so I guess I picked up the correct one, however no idea whats the difference between them anyways

Hi there,
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I had found CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.zip
if my Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280225
is this the file I shood use to root my phone.
Thanks Dansk
I happen to have a similar question!
I'm on 2.3.3/XWKF1 right now, if so, should I download CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.zip?
But isn't it the KG1 that's gonna update me to 2.3.4?
This info to be exact...
PDA: I9100XWKF1
PHONE: I9100DXKF1
CSC: I9100OLBKE5

KG1 is just a kernel for andorid 2.3.4..and you need to upgrade rom to 2.3.4 as well.

Still can't find insecure Kernel.
Hi: having searched, I can't seem to find either a secure or an insecure kernel: looking for BVKH2 - which I guess is quite new since I've just got my handset.
Any other sources that anybody might know of please?

Correct root file for KI9 kernel
Hello everybody,
I updated my firmware version trough Kies today, from KF3 to KI9.
As I wanted to root my S2 in order to install MIUI, i searched for the KI9 kernel at Chainfire's thread, but didn't find the corresponding file.
I searched the forum and came up with this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...75278&page=708
Unfortunately I can not reply on an developers section of the forum, so i thought this was the best place to ask it:
Which kernel should I use in order to correctly root my phone ?
Many thanks

Yes. There's only 1 insecure and 1 secure of KF4 in that link anyways.

Your link is bad. Has the ellipses in the URL, so it doesn't link to anything.
I can't find a KI9 firmware for the GT-I9100. What is your full model information?
EDIT: I think I see - XWKI9 looks like it is a carrier branded firmware for Belgium, which is why I didn't find it initially. See this post. (which I found REALLY easily with a Google search)
KI9 kernel
Sorry for the bad link, the thread is called : "[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download" , and the particular post is from "Crucio_".
My full model information is :
Model : GT-I9100
Android-version: 2.3.5
Baseband-version : I9100XXKI4
Kernel-version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI9-CL630390 [email protected] #2
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI9
Thx for the quick response
EDIT: The link you reffered to is actualy the same thread I wrote in this post . I just would like confirmation about the KI4 kernel being compatible with the KI9 version.

EDIT: ah. That post I linked is the one you attempted to link.
So long story short, you need the same kernel HeavyLaws needed, the KI4 kernel.
I think i understand
I don't want to keep rambling about this, but I would like to understand how this works.
I noticed that the Baseband-version also ends on KI4, is this of any relevance?
So i guess if you have time, i would like the long story
Thx again
EDIT: doesn't HeavyLaws need the KF4 kernel instead of the KI4 kernel?

Re: HeavyLaws - whoops! You're right. He needs KF4. You need KI4. Sorry about that!
So long story isn't really that long actually. From what I understand, Proximus just took XWKI4, branded it, added their tweaks, and re-versioned it as XWKI9. There are probably more details than that, but I don't really know all of them.
KI9 kernel
I get it
So in theorie, flashing the KI4 kernel should't give any problems cause it's basically the same kernel as the KI9 with some minor tweaks?
Just want to be sure that i won't jam my phone by using this kernel .
Thx for the answers man, I appreciate it

Pretty much, but you can just flash the KI9 kernel back after you get root if you want. Stock KI9 kernel is on this page, just search for the term "XWKI9 Stock Kernel". This will also have the effect of getting rid of the yellow triangle when rebooting the phone.

Kernel needed please?

I have just flashed an insecure kernel to root my SGS2 (CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KJ3-v5.0-CWM5) but i am not sure which original kernel i need to get rid of the yellow triangle.
Sorry for the noob question

You DID make a note of what your kernel was before you flashed the CF-Root kernel, right?

Region has less to do with what kernel he needs than what build of Android he is on.

Baseband version I9100BUKI1

Ok, so you need the BUKJ3 stock kernel. Unfortunately, the only place that I knew of off the top of my head to download it is Intratech's carrier branded firmware thread, and all the links for it are on multiupload... which was shut down by the DOJ.
I'll hunt around a bit for it, but google (which is what I'll be using) is your friend.
cheers buddy i will try google then and see what happens
Your right about multiupload

So I've not had much luck... I tried finding the full firmware to see if I could strip out just the kernel, but all the full firmware downloads for BUKJ3 I've found only unzip to an md5 file, which I don't know how to strip out the zImage file from.
You could post in Intratech's carrier branded firmware thread to see if he (Intratech) still has the stock kernel for BUKJ3 somewhere, and if he can re-upload it to a file server that is still in service.
Alternatively, you could just order a USB jig to get rid of the triangle. This will also reset your non-Samsung kernel flash counter back to zero.

*#1234# does not work ?!
Ok, usually the PDA is the same as the Build version/number => DXLP9.
Maybe you have to reflash the kernel or the whole ROM to get the *#1234# work again on your phone.
Dial codes will only work only stock Samsung ROM's. With it being “build 4.2," I'll assume it isn't a stock Samsung ROM. Flash one if you wish to use these dial codes.

You're running Slim ICS; which is NOT a Samsung stock firmware. So technically, you don't actually have a PDA version.

Not really. Looks like a Gingerbread modem was flashed to an ICS firmware. That is only unusual in that it would never come like that packaged from Samsung. But it still should work just fine. Modems are cross compatible between Gingerbread and ICS.

A question about CF-root.

Hi, was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out which version of CF-root to use for my S2? Major noob at all this so probably asking a stupid question.
