[Q] modifying contacts.apk - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having searched the forums (and google), I'm gonna have to grab this bull by the horns. I want to edit the stock contacts.apk by adding the option to Sort Contacts by Nickname, and conscequently add the option to Display Contacts by Nickname as well. Since both settings have different sorting options, I imagine I would only need to duplicate the code line that sorts & displays according to first name, then change one of the values to direct it to the nickname field of each contact right? I have never edited an apk apart from changing the png's so I have no idea on what other software I need. I have JDK, Android SDK, and APK tools already installed.

How to control syncing with google accout?

Anyone know how to control when syncing contact in our phone with google account? I mean can choose which data in google or in our phone is priority.
Ex: If I edit contact in both my phone and google (use computer) but only one is edited correct so how can choose which data will be replace by the other?
Add a letter to the name of an individual edit and give it a little time if you see a same name with an extra letter in your emai or on the phone then try it the other way around. (Ex. make a copy of one contact with a phone number in your email and add a number or a few letters off from the original name then wait and see what updates! Then do the same thing from your phone make a copy contact with a slightly different name and see if it is in your gmail! I don't believe you can modify WHAT gets synced persay but you can completely turn sync off until you are ready to back your items up which in turn also saves on battery life as well.

[Q] Clipboard queue?

I am looking for a clipboard queue. Basically something that I can copy items into in one app and then in another app get those items back out in the order I copied them.
For example I could cooy my name, then copy my street address, then copy my city state zip code. Now I switch apps. When I do the first paste I get my name, second paste and I get my street address, and last paste gets my city state zip.
The above is just an example so don't think it is just for personal information. It should support information that changes a lot.
I have tried many clipboard programs, but they seem to only be clipboard histories.
I even looked at Tasker but it appears to not know when the clipboard has been pasted do it can advance to the next item in the queue.
I can find several of these programs for Windows, just not Android.
I know this is a toughie, but please help.
I guess there isn't any?
The best I have seen is Everywhere Clipboard. It shows a popup on the screen at the same time as your app. You can click on an item in the clipboard history to copy it back to the clipboard.
Is there better?

How can I edit contacts in batch?

Hello, I must edit all my contacts to remove area code. My new mobile carrier doesn't support it. I've tryed export it from google to csv -dos, csv outlook. Then I edited with Excel and removed the numbers, but when I try to import it, everything went wrong, without any configuration/
Does someone know any app that to this job? Or someone know how must I proceed? Thank you !
hey
why don't you define in excel maximum digits as the length of your numbers?
for example if you have this number stored:
Eytan
10123456789 (1 is the area code)
execute in excel so it saves the last 10 digits so it'll apear like this:
Eytan
0123456789
you should limit the numbers of characters in a cell.
i actually don't remember the exact steps but i'm sure you could find it with search, it should shorten your "work".
good luck !
You should be able to export from Google as CSV edit in Excel then reload as CSV
actually I tried all those things, and when I try to export it again to google, I lost the previous settings.
I found a brasilian app "operadora DDD" and it does the job! It´s in portuguese, but u can acess the app, then UNCHECK "ativar", and press menu on your phone. U must chose "alterar agenda", click on the number and try every option. when u check some box, the number change showing your choice (with/out " ( ) ", "-", "+" etc)

I used to use Contacts Clean-up by Peter Baldwin, but that is not compatible with newer versions of Android. If you have access to an older phone, you could use that to edit them and then resync to the new phone. That's probably what I'm going to do tomorrow...
hmm, this is interesting and yet frustrating. I'm also in need to edit my contacts in batch, especially to change the area code and include a country code, but it seems that the .csv that I've edited cannot be read by google contacts.
anybody can get around with this?

[Q] Modify an contact reading app

Hello,
i like to modify an app which is reading the whole phonebook. this app sends the complete phonebook over the internet.
Ive tried to modify the decompiled smali file with help of the jar file, but its very difficult. Im a experienced programmer in PLC programming and some other languages like c# but the smali code is very difficult.
Can anybody help me to modify the app?
Is it possible to implement fix contacts in the app like disable the access to the contacts an give an fixed array of hard programmed contacts?
Thanks for help
BTW. English is not my main language
If you have root you can download and install Permissions Plus on the Google Play Store. (Needs BusyBox too!). You can block and change permissions for apps.
But this app looks like malware/greyware. What app is it?
Sent from my super rare, old Scroll Excel running Android 2.3 using the offical app.
The app is wha_ts.ap(WA).
I know there are diffrent apps for permission management. i use srt appguard. The problem is, i can aalow or disallow access to the contacts.
But i like to give the WA only 10 contacts and not the whole phonebook with all numbers and email adresses etc...
I thougt that i can give a fixed array of contacts to the app by modifing the smali.
Or is it possible to change the contact access in the smali like simlier to sql? Like this SELECT WHERE MEMO '*WA CONTACT*' or something else...
Is it difficult to change the contact access in then smali??
No idea?

[Q] email account color in database file?

I've seen lots of threads in XDA asking how to change the account colors in the default email client that you see in the combined view. The only solution I've ever seen is deleting and re-adding accounts until you get a desirable color.
I have a rooted phone so I thought I'd simply find the field in one of the database files (like EmailProvider.db) and make the change...but I can't find it. Has anyone else had success here? I just have to believe the color is in some database file.
