I was hoping to get some direction here...
Purchased the SGSII about a month ago....it works really well when connected to wifi...I mean, it screams (in terms of speeds)...but while trying to work off 3G everything just slooooows down...I just did a speed test on 3G:
284kbps down and 28 kbps up
I am on Sprint with the unlimited data plan....what gives? Unfortunately, I am unable to give a comparative analysis b/c my wife's EVO is having issues on its own...and I can't download the speedtest.net app. That's a whole other issue...but anyone have any ideas on what the 3G speed issue can be?
I appreciate your help

The GT-I9100 won't work on Sprint - it gets no service whatsoever on Sprint.
If you have an SPH-D710, you're in the wrong forum.

Go to the forum home page (not the I9100 home page) and search for Epic 4g Touch. Careful, there is also an "Epic 4g", which is different.

I flashed my ROM to NAFT's standard version. Now my 3G icon is replaced with an "H". From my understanding this is HSDPA which is not supported by ATT(?). I never had the "H" with the stock rom. THe download does seem about 300kbps faster. What's the deal?
probably you have the "Fuze" and the New ROM you installed has HSDPA enabled thanks to the masters of this forum. H is what you want and it is supported by ATT. you should be able to get download speeds of around 700kb+ at some points during the day.
Oh okay. I wont have to pay extra for this?
The reason i am confused is i was searching that NAFT thread for HSDPA and people were complaining about poor service with HSDPA so i figure ATT doesnt support it just yet?
Also, i get near 1000kbps now. With 3g i got 600-700
No you wont have to pay extra for it. It is all under your data plan here is an article I found that has a pretty straight forward explanation of the differences hope it helps.

The deal is that you didn't search before posting. Please refer to the General Questions and Answers for such discussion like this. Thread now closed.
Can we confirm that the Atrix does not have HSUPA? Is it possible to enable this feature. I think this is a deal-breaker for most people especially with the laptop dock and extra fees associated with it.
I would start by looking at the build.prop file.
It might be as easy as that.
its already confirmed that it doesnt. Read the reviews for proof.
I can absolutely confirm that the Inspire has it disabled and that a different ROM enables it. ATT needs to be raked over the coals for this. I think I'm bout done with ATT branded phones..
That should be reason enough for a lot of people not to purchase it. Without a European version of the Atrix how will US AT&T customers overcome this limitation?
Has AT&Fail replied to this as to why they're doing this? It _might_ be their way of controlling the amount of users on their network, ya know? This would 'right size' the network load by moving folks to other carriers ... a possibly brilliant move on their part, and very transparent

A company doesn't want churn. Churn is bad for the bottom line.
Nobody has confirmed that it's off, except one person who didn't really know what the hell they were talking about.
We'll have plenty of data on Monday.

It won't be a problem as long as we can break into the files on it. =)
People using the Inspire 4G have already fixed there data problems by rooting it I believe.

Can't we do this by rooting and then root exployer..? This is really gonna suck if we can't get HSUPA. I know MOTO locks down their stuff but really, I hope we can over come this.
Apparently the fix to this whole issue is to not use the stock wap profile. The stock WAP profile has data routed though a proxy server that is causing slowdowns. Once the proxy is removed people saw speed increases and uploads past 1.5mbs.
I'm glad that we have people smart enough to figure this out and possibly fix it... but why should the average consumer be subjected to this by AT&T? Most people wouldn't know this while AT&T laughs their asses off limiting their data speeds. This is a huge dealbreaker for me, and this would be too for everyone else if the general population knew about this. AT&T really needs to be called out for this and burned for essentially throttling speeds on all their smartphones besides iPhones while claiming fast speeds... Where can we start this?

How do we go about removing this proxy? Sorry I'm a noon to this stuff.

Where has this been confirmed? Link please.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I would post a link but the stupid forum rules won't let me. Go to Howard forums AT&T general discussion and look for a HSPA+ thred. Go to page 55 and you will find some screenshots
I hope to try this out tomorrow.

Thanks for the link
The first screenshot shows the apn list with ATT provided apn locked..cannot edit it. The next 2 show the apn settings. The ATT apn allows full upload and download speeds along with access to the wifi hotspot. Should be able to fix the speed issue without even rooting it

and this has been proven to fix the hsupa speeds? If so, how could it be this simple?!
Over in the Dev Discussion there is a possible solution based off some testing I had Fixter do as well as what I discovered on HoFo about someone who got HSUPA working on their Inspire without rooting or changing the Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11510122&postcount=10
Check it out, try it see if it works. But don't post in the Dev channel about how it works, post here. I'll update that post if we have more people stating success. I'm also heading over to my local store in a bit to test it with an Inspire.
I have an HTC HD2 running Cyanogen 7.0.3 2.3.4
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 running stock 2.3.4 XXKG2 XEU
Both are on T-Mobile UK network, both on free internet tarifs.
Both have the same APN settings.
Both show 'H' as the connection and both have Wifi disabled.
Using speed test I've been testing both.
The HTC HD2 consistantly gets 1.7-1.9 Mbps download and around 0.5Mbps upload.
The Galaxy S2 never gets more than 0.95 Mbps download and 0.35 upload.
Surely there is something not quite right here.
Any advice/input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Type *#*#9900#*#* and disable fast dormancy. Seems to help for some.
Thanks, unfortunately this hasn't helped.
Further testing shows the following:
The faster speed follows the sim card.
So when the other sim is in the GS2, i get 2mbps + down,
In the HD2, the sim from the GS2 gets only 0.94mbps down.
It seems to me like TMobile are artificially capping download speeds on one my accounts.
Very weird, if not illegal.
At least it's nothing to do with the phone.

It's really fast for me. 3,3Mbps.
with T-Mobile(Dutch) i get 1Mbps
with Hi (kpn/Dutch) i get 3,3
But my t-mobile speed is just 1Mbps soon i will faster internet, then i will test again.
in screenshot, the first two tests are Hi and third is T-Mobile. all tested at the same place.
I too have this problem.
Any updates?

Well 4G is HSPA+ .. so unless your Signal says "H" you aren't connecting to the 4G signal. Don't blame the phone blame who ever decided that your area is not worth the money to setup a proper HSPA tower.
And there's no need to throw the F bomb on the title I sometimes like to pretent xda memebers are all properly educated individuals

thank you very much sir, i guess where i live is just a "peice of crap". thank you again.
OP, maybe you do live in area that the speeds are not to your liking, but please refrain from using the wording you have chosen. Forums Rules are set forth....so you have been Warned, Sir.
Thank You and Thread Closed.
So if this does not belong as a new thread then I'm sorry, I'm fairly new here. Anyways, I think I stumbled on to something today with my Note 3. As with a lot of you, I have been having reception issues. The reason though is because it tries to connect to a LTE network before 3G. This sounds fine and dandy, but it would rather have 1 bar with LTE instead of 5 bars with 3G. This is why the reception is worse, it wants to hold onto the 4G tower.
I know this because when I turned off my 4G data and put it on CDMA only, my reception went up a lot!
Any thoughts?

This is a valid fix shared on the Sprint forum. But, not really a fix fix.

But all we need now is a skilled dev who can program it to accept the best signal, not the fastest data. That or an update to do so.
