I decided to check for any software updates this morning and to my surprise, it said that there were updates available but, the servers were busy. I then went about my business and decided to check again a few minutes ago and it now says that my current software is up to date and I can check again tomorrow. The thing is, I was never given notification that a software update was downloaded or installed.
Does anyone know how to reset the time stamp so that I can run the software update checker again? I would like to determine if this was just an error on AT&T's servers or if there really is an update available for my phone.
Thanks,
-Sharples

Likely just a glitch or just an error communicating with the server. AFAIK, there are no AT&T updates.
No updates yet. But if you really want to reset the counter go into Menu > Settings > Applications and erase the data for AT&T Software Update.
Or, I believe just changing the date to one day later will work as well (it did on the Cappy anyway).
Thanks guys for the quick response! I did reset the counter as mentioned and indeed, it was a glitch on At&T's side.
Just Checked and got this
Sent from a Galaxy far, far away!
I got it too!!!!
Yep, I got the same thing...
I've been searching for an answer for a while actually so maybe resurrecting this thread will bring an answer.
Same here... some reason my only allows me once per 24hours it said once..lol.. but now it says what your does
Nope, I get current software is up to date.
how

You can go to the update app and clear the cache and data.
Does this reset the counter to 24 hours?

I just changed the day to 1 day ahead. Whoop whoop!

Ok so I'm pretty new to the android scene. Today I got a notice that I had a update so I unrooted because of people saying that if updating while rooted it will brick then I clicked apply update. My phone then rebooted and said up date failed. Im guessing from the lack of cell reception. Does any one know how to try again if I check for updates it says no firmware thankyou in advanced

There are a couple of ways to do it,
1) force your system to check for update
2) use ODIN to manually update, you can grab the software from the development section in the bible.
ok i tried to force update but it doesnt do anything then i tried to clear the data from the Device management app and check for updates again and it says system not ready check network or sim so im guessing i should just wait it out to see if they push it again. i would rather stay away from the sdk area i just got the phone out of the black screen of death today.
I take it you can 3 finger salute your phone if needed?
I personally feel the easiest thing to do is update it through mini Kies. If you need further instructions on how to do it, let me know.
I'm gonna hold off for a week because tmobile is sending me a new phone for some other issues I'm having but how would I update through mini kies cuz the gps on this phone takes so long so when I get the new phone I'm gonna fix that

I think Asus suspended the 4.03 OTA update. I got my new unit of Transformer prime and no matter how I clicked on check update it won't let me because non is available. I had another unit, where the other one i updated last night. I brought from the same place and I am in Canada Toronto.
Maybe ISC is too buggy and they need to crack out a new one before the bad press spread...
Duo you have a serial number?
yep
i do, i have built of WW if that matters
is it because my battery is below certain % so it won't let me
Yeah I just got mine this evening and haven't been able to update to ICS yet either. Does it have to be 100% battery before it will find an update?

Are you sure your serial number is listed in the software? (Settings then About My Tablet then Status).
We all have physical serial numbers, the bug is with the software not knowing it.
If you do and your battery is over 15% then they likely are suspending the OTA.

Support told me new 4.0 firmware is coming in next few days
So if there is something wrong with it, why are some working? Just returned mine, have return remorse if they fix it now.
Better you return it while you know you can get a refund than end up stuck with a broken system later that ASUS refuses to admit is broken.
I'm currently on the phone with support one last time (OD is picking up the unit tomorrow, but given I have 4 shipments of accessories coming from Amazon...I realized I'm better off if I can get ASUS to finally just send me a new unit)- been on hold for over 45 minutes waiting for a supervisor. So...not a great start.
I was having the same problem but I assumed because I got mine in on jan 2nd (before the 12th official release date), that was why i never got any update notifications. I have checked over and over for the ICS update since I heard it was out but still nothing. So i assumed its something to do with regions.
However, after going through this thread...I checked the status of my unit and realised that serial number reads as "unknown". Please is this a defect of some sort? What are the implications(if any)?

From reading the other post, if your Android doesn't know your TFP's serial number, it cannot get update. Read that some ppl already returned theirs for a replacement.
For some reason, my TFP canot find the update; it keeps telling me that "There is no update available for your device currently."
Any ideas?
Do you have a serial number on your unit?
I couldn't get updates and I think it was b/c I didn't have a s/n showing in my unit. I returned it and bought a new one. All is good now.

My daughter is having the same issue. Her firmware is only at .27 and when she checks for updates in settings, there is nothing. She also has not gotten the ICS upgrade. Should she wait or manually download the firmware update?
This is our first exposure to Android, so any advice would be appreciated.
Since there seems to be a fairly high chance that the update introduces some stability issues, take the time to get used to android and don't worry too much about the update - it's fairly minor improvements. Anything you install should be kept during the update.
You should check that you have a serial number though (settings, about - at the bottom of the list)
Well, I can ask about her serial number, but my serial number is not listed and my Prime firmware and OS was upgraded without issue. It's not a big deal for her to wait, but I am wondering what is the catalyst that triggers the automatic upgrades? Is it done over a certain amount of time? (She got hers a week after I got mine.)
Does anyone know?

Go into the SETTINGS in your PRIME then click on STATUS. If it says "Serial Number Unknown" then your sister will not be able to update to any of the firmwares, including ICS Android 4.0 or any updates Asus released before ICS.
I would guess yours actually shows a Serial Number if you are getting updates. Otherwise, there would be no way to get OTA updates.
Also, if your sister updates manually, she will always have to update manually. And that is a pain. Asus doesn't put up the actual firmware files for many days after they are sent OTA. For example, you still cannot download ICS Android 4.-0 from Asus' website, although it was release a few days ago.
3rdamention,
I did not know to look under status...mine is fine, but I will have her check hers. So, if the SN is missing, what is the resolve? I got hers at Office Depot which has been a nightmare of incorrect charges.I hope I won't have to deal with them again.
So far, no fix at all. Mine is going back to Best Buy!
If you have this problem, you cannot run certain applications, one I believe is Google Video. You cannot do OTA Firmware Updates, and you cannot root the tablet if you ever wanted to.
There is no fix right now, and Asus hasn't been any help whatsoever.
Here is a nearly 20 page thread about it if you need some friends or shoulders to cry on if you find your sister's has this issue. Plus this thread may be a decent read to acclimate you to this bug.

I'm having a similar issue... My TPrime has a serial number in the status, and on the 9th I got a notification that there was a firmware update available, so I hit update, TPrime rebooted, but the install messed up and just had an android guy with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. Once it rebooted, it reverted back to Honeycomb, and now I can't find the update again. I've even gone so far to wipe my TPrime, which took it back to .27, and had to manually update to .33, since it wouldn't even find that update...
I called Asus about it, and they said that the update had been recalled, and I should get it whenever they re-release it.
Anyone else have anything like this?

I tried that solution, and the one linked from that thread too. Those basically tell you to re-install the .33 firmware, then update to ICS (without specifying how, but I'm assuming it would just show up for them), and are aimed mainly for people who were rooted and had deleted bloatware. I wasn't rooted or hadn't deleted anything, and still can't find the update again.
I'm one of the no serial number people and cannot get updates. I noticed i wasn't getting updates right after Christmas and called Asus as soon as .33 came out, and they gave me the same bullcrap about it having been recalled even though everyone else was getting it. I think that's just their standard response to shut you up and get you off the phone.

So you have been on Stock Firmware now since you owned it in December? Sorry brother, that really stinks. At least for me it has only been this week.
That is one of my biggest complaints. You see people saying they haven't' been able to update since before Christmas. Now here we are on January 12th, Asus hasn't helped anyone, they tell them there have been no firmware updates. I seriously think they are buying time. Either they are close to a "Serial Problem Unknown" fix, or they want you to hold it past the return date so you have to send it to Asus, they keep your money, and they can just ship you a replacement.
There is a 20 page thread of people all considering taking their Primes back because of "Serial Number Unknown", but nobody from Asus is trying to help, PMing them, or anything.

Now that I think about it, I'm not too sure about that either... I was assuming it did since after I wiped all data, I had the .33 firmware on my microsd card, the tablet recognized it saying there was an update available, and reinstalled that firmware. But either way, the check update keeps telling me there is no update available when I'm with .33.

The funny thing about my prime is that was originally on 8.8.3.23. I haven't seen anyone else with that firmware revision, the lowest i've seen anyone else at is .27. I have manually updated to .29 with an sd card, but have held off on .33 because of the troubles others have had.
You're right, I haven't seen anything about ASUS working to solve this problem, and more and more people are cropping up with this issue. Where is Gary King from Asus on this one? He seems to be PM'ing people on the site about different issues to get resolved, but nobody with this issue has been contacted by him. I don't think it's high on their priority list, which sucks because none of us can get ICS. They obviously monitor these boards, yet we continue to be ignored.
OP: this happened to me last night.
But about half and hour later it started downloading the new update and then was ready to install. :/
Havnt had any issues since.
Dont have my prime with me atm, so i cant list serial, fw version etc.
Will post up later
Went to check on any software updates on my Galaxy Mega GT-i9152, (as you do), and the message "Your device has been modified updates are not available" appears.
Now, I know when I first got the phone, (around 1 month ago), there was an update to it. This was after I'd checked via System, About, Software Updates.
I have NOT rooted this device. Not messed with it in any way, shape or form, it is in fact as stock, like the day I took it out of the box.
I have posted pics of the Firmware details etc.
All very strange.
Strange..!!! Why it show?? I think here no update available.. Not sure..

No, brand new.
As I said earlier, when I first turned it on, I immediately did a software check to see if there were any updates. There was one. No message about being "modified"..and status was Official.
Then checking earlier today, it says it's modified.

That is just too weird. My ATT Mega is only rooted. I still can check for official updates- Not that there is any!!!!!!!!! I don't get those messages about being custom. Also, If I don't have my att sim card in the phone when I check, the check for update gets interupted and never completes.
Now on my Note 8, which is rooted with a custom recovery I do get those "modified" device pop ups. I think it's the custom recovery that does it.
I have found out that the new update will break the current root method.
There currently does not seem to be a way to downgrade if your devices is updated.
If you want to root, do not update.
This is aggravating because I only ever use root for ad blockers nowadays. Oh well.
Maybe with some luck the bootloader will be unlocked.

I use NetGuard to block adds. I purchased the IP filtering and it works awesome. Load in your favorite host table and let it go. It does keep an active VPN but haven't noticed any drain on it.

on a good note (no pun intended) the device almost doesnt even need root. you have Good Lock to adjust Notifications and colors, and a Theme Store as well. As OP said, blocking ads is about all one really needs root for on this device. Sure with xposed you can have a circle battery icon, and a few other neat tricks. But these can all be lived without. I am currently staring at my 2 replacement Note7's I just picked up a few minutes ago. Ive got Software Updates disabled, but cant pull the trigger to start the root process, lol.

Unfortunately, factor resestting won't affect the software, and you'll still be on the same update. I even tried flashing the original firmware files via Odin but that did not work either.
i concur, i bricked my Note 7 trying to root it after i got my replacement yesterday 9/21.
i got an internal usc email in regards to the phe update which states it will only let you postpone it 4 times before it will automatically install.
unfortunately the dbag in the store activated my phone on the wrong line and for some reason thought a firmware update would correct it smh so i didnteven have a chance to root since he already installed my screen protector as well.
