AT&T now giving out Note unlock codes

Whooowhoooo, good news. Just bought an AT&T Note. Arrived this morning and I just got off the phone with an AT&T rep. I was about to spend the 25 bucks for an unlock code but I had an AT&T account years ago (started with Cingular) so I dug out the account number. I rang the AT&T service number and asked the rep if I could get an unlock code and gave him my old account number and the IMEI. He said ":I'll keep my fingers crossed for you". 20 seconds later he said "I have good news" and gave me the code. I put in my T-Mobile SIM fired up the phone. The screen came up asking for the network unlock code. 8 digits later, success. Sitting on T-Mobile with Edge but soon to flash the T-Mobile ROM and Radio.
Give me 3 lemons to suck to take the smile off my face....
Lucky ass! I'm about to have to pay for mine. I gotta get my Note T-mobile ASAP!
confirmed. was able to get one for my i717 through a chat session just now. loves it!
this will help me determine if i'm going to use my at&t sgn unlocked on tmobile, or trade someone straight up for a tmo one. (making the jump back to at&t in the near future...)
I just got mine! Thanks!
Great news! When I saw the news that they were unlocking iPhones a while back, I started hoping for other phones. The note is now a world phone.

Cool. Might be switching to T-Mobile soon if the rumors of truely unlimited data are true. Love to take my Note with me!
just tried it a few min ago
the lady asked me how long I had the phone.
I told her I bought it Feb of 2012.
She came back within 5 min and gave me the unlock code and instructions.
I'm in Mexico right now so I did the chat option to get my unlock code but when I put in a SIM card from a Mexican carrier the phone never asked me to put in an unlock code am I missing a step?
The rep said that the phone would ask me for a code when I put in a different carriers SIM card. Any ideas?

If you can make phone call for the Mexican carrier, why should you care, you phone might be already unlocked. Save the code to use later on (just in case)
If you're not on a stock rom you can't input the code.

That maybe why my AOKP ROMmed Note didn't respond to a 2008 UK SIM the other night.
Now off to STOCK my Note.
Do you have to have had the phone a while? I was considering switching from AT&T to T-Mobile once their unlimited service comes out (depending on reviews). I just started my contract with AT&T in May but the termination fee is still less than if I would've bought the Note off contract.

From what I recall the last time that I had AT&T unlock a phone for me (3 upgrades back in 2008), you have to have the phone for a least 60 days, and your account must be in good standing (paid in full, on time).
BTW, AT&T gave me my unlock code via online chat in the time between my two posts without any trouble.
I got my Note (as an upgrade) back in May also.

Right -- stock rom and modem, and another carrier's sim card in the phone when you boot.
Was able to get unlock code after 3 hrs with these incompetent reps and supervisors @ AT&T.

I just got my code from the online chat rep. Very easy and fast. Don't call, they're a pain in the ass. With the chat rep, all you need is your phone number, last 4 digit of social, imei number.
To obtain imei number dial *#06#

I wasn't told of one, and I don't expect there to be one.
I was told by the CSR that 5 incorrect entries will permanently lock the phone to AT&T.

After inputting my model and IMEI they assured me they could unlock my 803, so i gave them 10 dollars Canadian only to get an automated email stating they couldnt unlock and I would get a refund within 7 working days, after 7 days i sent email inquiring and they sent me another email stating it coud take 12 working days, 13 working days later still no refund. COMPLETE RIPP-OFF !!!
Ended up getting unlocked for 2 dollars Canadian on ebay from phone.market (13805 )

For any future reader, you should use unlockcode247.com to unlock your G2 since they have the cheapest price. Me and other users of xda have used it and we only paid 2$ to unlock our G2s and it worked perfectly. Don't get taken by scam and thieves.
Here's the link for anyone wanting to unlock their LG G2: http://unlockcode247.com/imei/5/15/LG--Instant
There's also another thread somewhere about this.

I used this site early in the week to unlock an old Samsung of mine and found it to be a very pleasant experience. I got a code which I wanted and it was delivered pretty fast considering my carrier told me at least a week and wanted three times the money! I guess they do fail sometimes but that's just life aint it.

Best way to buy a v10 with no contract.

I thought I could buy the v10 through Tmobile without a contract. Pay full price but the person on their chat told me it wasn't possible. So, Im looking for suggestions as to the best options to buy the phone w/o contract and with some type of warranty.

You can buy the phone from T-Mobile without a contract but you do need a plan.
Just talk to a different person imo.
If all else fails you can purchase it with a cheap pay as you go plan.
The cheapest I think is $3 for 30 min.
You however will have quite a few hurdles to jump through to get it unlocked from T mobile.
They require at least $100 to be spent on your account and 40 days of active service to unlock it.
You can get around those if you are lucky, some people have not been able to.
If you can do without warranty, your best option may be to use a service like swappa.com
You can buy new and used phones from people there.
Just make sure to check the condition of the phones before purchasing, also note if they are unlocked or not if you will be using a service other than T mobile.
If you must have a warranty of some kind, there are after purchase options available from places like squaretrade, however they are more expensive than I personally think they are worth.
Good luck finding your new phone.
You sure can buy it outright.

@L0x -- any luck??
I got mine from AT&T right after the release. I spent a bunch of time on various chats until I got someone who told me that I could get the phone unlocked within 3 to 5 days after purchase. Added to cart with the cheapest plan & ordered.
AT&T auto-activated the phone when it showed delivered. As I am using the phone in Europe on Vodafone, this was a problem. It took, all said and done, probably 8 hours across a month and a half on chat, twitter, and phone calls to get AT&T to send me the unlock code, cancel the plan, and wipe the account balance to zero. Unlock code was immediate, the rest took the longest. I didn't mind harassing them very much because I had my unlocked phone.
After it was all said and done, I have the AT&T variant with an unlock code, running on Vodafone, with nothing paid to AT&T except the cost of the phone. It takes time, persistence, and patience to make it happen.

Not yet per say. I'm about 2 weeks out from purchasing. Holiday kicked my ass. But I will update this thread when I purchase. I'm weighing right now actually going with a Tmobile plan. I use Metropcs right now. Just not liking the 20$ more a month for less data.
I'm in Canada. Bought mine from Best Buy in NYC. They give the option for a friend to pick up. Works great

Compensation

I waited most of this year for the Note 7 to be released.
I've not been able to use the phone properly for most of September (had to leave it at home during a holiday where it would have been great to use the camera). Had the phone crippled to 60% battery. Had to pack up and exchange the phone. Have bought two cases (one temporary while official Samsung LED case came into stock), a wireless fast charger and signed up to a year long SIM only contract.
There is nothing on the market that makes a half decent replacement. There is absolutely nothing that covers all of the features and functionality.
We (in the UK) await Samsung's offer to rectify this.
If as is rumoured we are to be offered a full refund or an S7/S7Edge plus a refund of the difference then I find that utterly unacceptable. I could have bought an S7 Edge when it came out, I didn't want one. I certainly don't want one now when it's due to be replaced in less than 6 months time. I absolutely don't want one at full retail price.
So here is a proposal to Samsung. Sell me a S7 Edge at HALF price with the promise to buy it back and exchange it for an Note 8 when it is released next year. Refund the cost of all my accessory purchases.
As for the Gear VR (now rendered useless), I've no idea what to do with that.
someone need to make a petition for everyone urging Samsung to do the right thing. I can't use my Note 7 anymore and stuck in a 2 yr contract. I am willing to take the S7E for now but they should sell the Note 8 to us who had the Note 7 at a discounted price.

100% this. I want the option to use an S7 or similar until they've released a successor and allow me to take that up when it's available!
From what I've heard, people can exchange it for an s7or get a full refund for the device from contractor or the place you bought it from

That's the story that I've heard from a few sources. However it's hardly compensation is it.
I'm sorry for messing you about for the last month, I'm sorry that you will have to wait a year for a proper replacement, I'm sorry that you will have to pay FULL PRICE for a phone that you don't really want as a replacement. ETC. And for all these sorries we get NOTHING.
Not good enough.
Yeah but because they locked bootloader I had a T-Mobile version and I couldn't not Route 9 so like I said we can't bootloader locked I had to ship my T-Mobile one back to T-Mobile I got a full refund but then I purchased and international version so I could have came root but I had to purchase off of eBay. I paid the full amount through a store. But he is not holding the store accountable eBay not holding themselves accountable and Samsung cannot hold themselves accountable period Samsung will not give me a refund or help me out neither will eBay so at the time being I'm stuck

they are giving ppl 100 to stay pssssh
Accepting their replacement offer seems a total ripoff. The S7 Edge goes for 799€, the S7 for 699 in their online store over here in Germany, 200 € !! more than on Amazon.
I called Verizon, gave them all my note 7 receipts from Amazon and eBay like lens case, screen cover, 2 wireless chargers and they credited my account by the total amount. I am bringing in the VR to also get refunded. I get to keep the 256gb memory card and the wireless charger as the wife has s7 and can use them

T Mobiles 8 weeks or our 8 weeks ?
I have been unfortunate enough to have used t mobiles promos twice in the past, one was for the two free lines and the other was when I joined them and they promised to pay my ETF fees ( 3 years ago that was ).
The former took approx 5 months to fix, as I was continuesly being charged for the 2 extra "free" lines , my monthly bills were running almost $300 for 5 months until it got resolved.
The latter, with the ETF , lets just say it took them approx 8 weeks to send out the prepaid Mastercard with credit on it, luckily for me I had the spare cash at the time to pay ATT their ETF fees else I would have been screwed , was approx $700 or so.
With both my relatively bad experiences I no longer wished to take up the Note8 buy one get one free, wife paid for hers and I paid for mine ( we have seperate bank accounts- dont hate ) LOL
I only had good experience with T-Mobile/Samsung promotions, and I kinda chased them... (Note 5 T-Mo BOGO and rebates, Samsung gifts, T-Mo S7 edge BOGO, T-Mo Netflix for a 1 year, Pixel Promo and other)
If you submit clean and accurate paperwork, you'll mostly get your rebate approved in 6 to 8 weeks and the check or card 2 weeks after that. Just like they said.
My BOGO was actually denied. Reason, JOD customers are not actually eligible for this deal. I called T-mobile and explained that I had calls several times to confirm that both lines would be eligible; after researching they paid off my JOD device and we just now have the other Note 8 on my wife's line. If you are denied I would calll especially if your situation is similar.

No. It could happen but with so many things backordered is not likely.
I'm glad I checked in on this thread. I called Tmo customer support and it turns out nothing had been done with my BOGO credit. This was the first time I have attempted this and I didn't even know there were things that were supposed to be done on my end. The service rep got me taken care of though, so all good. They did tell me though that they had been having alot of issue of late with the BOGO.
I was denied even though I brought four lines over within the time period permitted by the promotion. After an hour with a rep on Twitter, they fixed it and I should have my rebate in a few weeks. They blamed it on me paying off one of the phones and that both should have been on EIP. Obviously, that is a stupid thing to say since the offer is buy one, get one. Not buy one, don't pay it off, then get the other free.

You were absolutely correct. I got 2 different ship confirmation emails from Samsung.
BTW...BOGO credit status check can be done online. https://promotions.t-mobile.com/OrderSearch :highfive:
Got denied today, rebate status page said i didn't have a qualifying line, the store and reps on phone told me it was all good several times, but it still got denied. Called them after denial, they said they could fix it but they would have to transfer me to someone "higher" up the food chain over there to get the aproval, was on hone for 2 hours, gave up,and will have to fight this one out tomorrow.
Get you boxing gloves ready, cause this sounds like a fight is coming for some of us.....

Don't sweat it, I had that problem with the S7 promo last year but they took care of it. I'd does need to go to another group higher up but the process wasn't that bad.
