yes you can exchange before 30 days return but if pass 30 days return.. Samsung would look at that flash counter.

Try calling the customer service first and if they allow you to return it to the store then it will be lot easier for you

I've returned 3 due to screen defects. Rooted them all with Odin, installed kernels... AT&T never once checked the flash count, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you take it into that AT&T store then yes you can because they cant check the flash counter. But if you ship it to samsung then no. But there is a way to reset the flash counter if you look a little

this is going to sound crazy but i took back 5 phones in a 3 week period. couldn't decide what i wanted. i went from the skyrocket to an iphone 4,from the iphone 4 to the note, from note to the vivid, and then back to the note. They told me I was out of returns ha.

If I got exchange my note at an att corporate store do you guys think they will look at the flash counter?

what are you claiming as your reason to exchange?
I highly doubt it. The great majority of employees probably have no idea what a flash counter even is, much less how to view it.
Well, from my experience, returning a few phones:
Samsung Infuse - didn't power on, just opened back cover to make sure IMEI matched up
HTC Vivid - same
Galaxy Skyrocket - they didn't even open the box, lol
So you're probably good! From my understanding, they only look at the flash count for warranty repairs. I don't think many ATT sales guys even know what a flash count is
Seems like the one I got can't overclock past 1.7 GHz.... 1.83 causes to restart...... I'm gonna say that out of the blue he phone decides to not register keys.... And I'll just reflash stock rom and kernel

You could return it even if you somehow managed to port Meego on it.
Really, they don't care. Let alone have the ability to check the flash count. I've had a couple customers return phones that had CM7 on it

Maroon Mushroom can you return a black note and tell them you really wanted the white...and will they exchange right on the spot
You guys should start a "Ask Maroon Mushroom Thread" lol....or maybe "Ask an At&t Employee Thread"?
Well i just returned my black one for a white one and the lady didn't even power it on to see if it even worked plus they gave me a new screen protector and to top that off she didn't charge me a restock fee
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yeah, just exchanged my black one for a white today. The black one had some screen issues (uneven back lighting, dead pixel). I wiped and flashed back to stock before returning it, flash counter was at 2. Was able to exchange no problem, just powered on the phone to check the screen issue and that was it.

Note Warranty Service?

After the 30 day return window from AT&T, I'm assuming that I need to deal with Samsung for any warranty issues, right? AT&T will not exchange, right?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Yup. See if there's a Samsung warranty/service center nearby that you can drive to. That would probably be the easiest way.
On my previous Samsung phone...I took it to the AT&T store so they could verify the camera autofocus quit working. The AT&T person was nice and called the support line for me, answered a number of their questions then handed the phone to me to finalize the transaction.
They sent me a new smartphone which arrived in 4 days then I returned my broken phone in a bag they provided.
pretty simple...and you can call the support line directly but I thought it would be easier to kinda play dumb and get AT&T involved i the process. This was 7 months into the 1 year standard warranty.
same here, bricked my captivate 2 times...got it exchanged from ATT....

Did they make you pay for a new phone, then credit the account after they got the old one? That's what they just told me today... thankfully there's a corporate store next to me.
No they did not
You have 14 days to return the bad phone otherwise you are charged. The prepay method applies to first 30 days...because they don't have refurbs available

Those of you getting them returned for warranty reasons through AT&T, any chance you have insurance on your phone or line? Other than just getting a nice employee, I've never known them to handle warranty issues like that...and last time I was in the store I was specifically told I had to go straight through Samsung. :/

When you purchase a phone (upgrade, straight buy, etc) from att, you have a warranty on your phone. I believe it is 12months in duration. This covers stuff like your phone having random reboots, shutdowns, and stuff like that.

[Q]To be or not to be...... mad about a locked bootloader

So this is really my only go to phone at the moment. However as you can see from my tag I am coming from a nexus. Assuming it doesn't get unlocked like the S3 how mad should I be over the locked bootloader? No custom kernel, so no over clocking, no battery tweaks, etc. But let's be honest on my nexus while I always rock a custom kernel I am not in there tweaking it all the time. How do others feel? To me it just more or less feels like a slap in the face from Verizon.

I have used the t-mobile note 2 for a few days and you don't need to do any of that stuff to this phone. The speed is freaking amazing and the battery lasts all freaking day. The only thing i did was root it so that I could is TiBU and I was set. (I ended up returning the phone due to stinky t-mobile signal so I'll be waiting for the vzw version to come out)
Will 4.2 be able to be installed before Verizon gets off their slow duffs
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I dont think it'll be bad. You see all these other threads of everyone *****ing about the locked bootloader just like the s3 and that got unlocked. I have faith. I just want to be able to root and ROM. I just preordered it yesterday! A whole month away though it feels so long haha

Im betting the devs will use kexec to side load custom kernels and recoveries like the S3 initially was before the insecure bootloader was leaked.

Not really for this device. To get the full potential you need the majority of Samsungs framework riding behind the scenes. A phone like this would not be right with just AOSP/stock Android. Maybe keep the possibility of having a Samsung ROM that's cleaned up a bit but not a total makeover.
Now a phone like the Droid HD or the upcoming HTC DNA then yes; I would be pissed.

$99 droid dna red employee special edition + extra

I have a flyer from a vzw, they are selling the DNA in red to all employees for 99 bucks. Not sure if it upgrade or off contract yet. But with the purchase they also get a free wireless charging pillow from Nokia. I will report back when I find out if it upgrade price or retail.
Also post a picture!
Please do I can pick it up then since I work for Verizon and didn't hear about this.

That's actually a pretty solid deal. I wonder if it will be up on the VZW website before Xmas. I'm debating on Note 2 or DNA (obviously), and the DNA is getting pretty stellar reviews from all over, but that 6-7 hours of ONSCREEN time on the Note 2 makes me want it ever so much. I hate the fact I can't use my phone for a long period of time.
If it goes live on the website, I'll post a screen cap.

What good does this do you? You're paying an extra $40/month for the upgrade? In two years you'll have paid ~$960 for the second line that you maintain just to get an upgrade every year. If you're putting a dumb phone on the line so you don't have to pay data you're a little better than buying a phone outright, but not much.

Rooted phone void accessory warranty

So today I go into Verizon with my rooted note. I know some will flame for going in with it being rooted. My Motorola elite Bluetooth wouldn't pair with my phone. Customer service said since your phone it's rooted it voids warranty. I say I understand it the phone not being under warranty but the ear piece. She said yes. I reach into my pocket and pull out another one and nfc pair it. She said why do you have 2 of them. Because the charger port broke on the other one and y'all said I broke it and it wasn't covered. She said well neither are covered anyway since you rooted your phone. I smile and walk out. So I guess I'll be giving Motorola a call. But my question is, is there any place that said accessories are not covered if your phone is rooted

Garbage. I'm an attorney and trust me if there was a policy that said that, you would have heard a courtroom outcry for it.
Dealerships say the same carp about cars with work done. Unless they can prove the problem was caused by the root then no.
Dumb kiddie working for Verizon is dumb.

Your Bluetooth accessory is still covered by the warranty. Just walk back into the exact same store with the Bluetooth and have him try to pair it with his phone. If it works... well then it is your phone if not its covered and the problem has nothing to do with root....
Good luck, but defiantly try getting a same day replacement at a store rather than waiting on shipping from Motorola.
I showed her that my other one would pair. And I did suggest that she tried to pair it with on of their phones. She said how do i know that you rooting your phone didn't mess the Bluetooth up. I asked her how could it. But she had no answer. I've rooted my phone's since... I'm trying to remember my first custom Rom I think it was on the audiovox 6600. And have never heard of phone messing up accessories. Well probably go to another store tomorrow and see if she put notes on the account

We had a similar issue at our local VZW, with three different items, my BT (which didn't pair from day 1), my Smart Dock (connector died 4 days into owning) and the best one yet my Otterbox which the belt clip broke on.
I let the Dock and BT go because I didn't really want to have that debate or argument but a belt clip on my case? I went off to the point that I was asked to leave the store at which point I refused to leave until someone showed me that policy and until I spoke with the DM. After much looking at no point was anyone in that store able to find or provide anything that supported those claims and when the DM finally arrived (45 minute drive), he was beyond livid and replaced all three items on the spot.
His response to his associate "When you tried to pair it to one of our devices and it didn't work, that should have been a sign to switch it considering had he not brought his phone with him you would have had no clue it was rooted and you would have switched all three items. He just spent over $1000 less than a week ago on the phone and all the accessories he purchased and this is honestly how you treat him?"
He also gave me his number and informed me if I had any future problems of that nature to feel free to contact him or VZW Customer Service, as that is not policy and regardless of your phone's state it holds no bearing on the warranty of accessories.

No need to tell them you're rooted. I hear you on the rest, though.

I'm just saying - you marched in there saying you're rooted and asked for a replacement. She said no.
Try again not saying you're rooted - bet she would have swapped it.

I didn't march in saying it's rooted. When she took my phone and was trying to find the settings toggle. Which she couldn't find. That's when I told her she wouldn't find it because it was rooted.

You should've just taken it from her and did it yourself. $100 is not chump change and you should go and demand a replacement. Speak to a manager if you have to.
You can do this without causing a scene and it would help other users, who don't know rooting doesn't good the warranty, by correcting her bull****.
