Hi everyone,
It's kind a special question because of the following :
- Xperia Ray is my girldfriend device. I'm iPhone 4 user (hopefully XPERIA S user when ICS will be launched on it).
-> I'm not familiar with Android terms (flash, rom, bootloop, etc.)
- It must be an hardware problem due to the situation but still want to try the basic test with your help.
Now the fact :
My gf just dropped her SE XPERIA RAY as if she want to put it on table but she missed it... By the way the back protection opened on the small crash but the battery stay on the device.
XPERIA RAY doesn't boot so we try at home with the battery charger (with and without battery) -> that is the only way we can have a bootloop.
Description of the bootloop: (Ray is obviously power off) : when on charge it tries to power on(boot) (Sony Ericsson text logo) during 4-5sec then black screen (power off), 30s to 1mn later same process, looping during all the time battery charger is used.
No other way to have anything on the screen...
As I said it must an hardware but did you guys have any tests so I can try to boot entirely?
I try :
1- Simple power on : nothing
2- Simple power on + "home button" or + "volume up button" ou + "volum down button" : nothing
3- On Battery charger : boot loop
4- On battery charger + every possible physical button (as pt.2) : boot loop
5- Connected USB to PC : nothing ( so no PC-C software can be used to repair... )
6- Connected USB to PC with volume UP button pressed : nothing
I just don't understand why, in case of an hardware problem (something jumped away or moved during the crash), it can "try to" boot during few seconds (then bootloop as described before)...
I apologize for my poor english (I'm french) and will stay tuned to this topic for any complementary details...
If you have any suggestion...
By the way, I didn't by it on shop (it was second-hand but never used (still packaged)) so I didn't have warranty paper. Is there any way I can contact Sony Ericsson (Sony now...) to send us the device. It is a 2011 model, hopefully still on constructor warranty...?
Thank you in advance.
Nico.
I suppose you had it fully stock, because you are not familiar with Android.
If phone is turned off, start charging battery. Does the screen show charging screen?
Sony doesn't have own service centers, the only way to let them repair is taking back to the shop, where it was bought. In your case, you should visit local mobile repair shop, it just doesn't go under warranty then.

The phone is always turned off and no I only have bootloop described on my first post.
Thank you for your answer about Sony SC. I already contact local mobile repair shop and off course they said me I won't be under warranty.
XPERIA RAY cost me about 200€, didn't want to repair it for 100€ ^_^
Did you think I can sell it (for pieces) and how much?
Thank you again for the quick answer, apreciate.
Since you are unable to enter also flashmode, there is some bigger error in hardware.
About selling pieces...I don't think you could sell it, maybe screen for someone, who has ruined it, but other parts will probably stay for you.
But, as for the phone more...200€ brick. At least you could use your phone for some throwing contest, I have heard about some phone throwing contests...maybe you can win a new one
Sorry, but I am out of ideas for now.
I can sell screen & battery...
Thank you
First of all, why shouldn't it be under warranty? If you have the receipt, just take it where you bought it from and tell them to fix it. You dont have to tell them that dropping it caused it to bootloop, i have dropped my Active loads of times, and the only thing that would make the shop where i bought it that i screwed up is if i brought it piece by piece to them
Take it to get fixed. Just tell them it started doing it this morning.

He wrote, that he bought it second-hand, but didn't get warranty card or receipt.
Warranty is also kept through the phones IMEI. Thats hiw I git my G2 repaired. Call SE and check on your warranty statys. It should be under warranty...

mine selling the phone to me cheap?
Okay so I know this is a kind of an old thread but I want people to know how to solve this issue as I had it too.
The moment your xperia ray fell from the table it absorbed an ammount of shock and blablabla, anyways the shock vibrates through the body and in most cases will mess up your battery contacts!
Mine was the most right one of the 3 battery contact sets which had been pushed in and thus not being able to connect or just slightly making it impossible to boot from the battery itself.
How to fix it?
There are 2 ways to fix it if your battery contacts have been damaged (if you don't know for sure you can still try them, I am not responsible for any damage you may do though!)
1. get a pincet and softly pull the contacts back, they are spring loaded and the shock probably got them stuck inside of the machine. A slight pull will do.
2. get a 2mm thin card (cellphonecard or something) and cut a tiny piece of it. Then before you insert the battery just put the piece of the card in the corner of the lower side of the battery input place. Then place the battery and push it down till you can attach the back cover.
Et voila, your device should boot, charge and be recognized by the pc again!
Thanks a lot, this last solution fixed mine
Related
First of all I admit that i have done stupid thing.
Before telling this I did HSPL to flash radio rom.
Yesterday I dropped my phone.
And from that time on vibration hadn't worked and booting phone by its own hardware buttons also, not working.
But I found booting only works by following method:
plug in charger while battery is out and then press as soon as battery is inserted again.
Now, what I committed to fix my vibrator was that i tried to disassemble and I got stuck at separating the housing with the screen one.
But I just adadoned to fix it and assembled it again.
After I booted my phone by that strange method above, the touch screen did not work.
So I pressed reset button at the back.
Now it is stuck at the first HTC logo screen. (think it is bricked?)
However It doens't show any information about R,G,D just the logo.
Many time till now the result is the same.
Now my question is...
My warranty is not over yet so I think I can get the new one.
However what interrupts my mind is that "what if they find out it is HSPL?"
But my opposing the question above is that can they see if I did HSPL or not since bootloader doesn't work, and proper powering on of the device doens't work either.
So what is you guys opinion will I be ok to get new one without being accused..?
My other concerns are that what if the boot loader suddenly works... and they find out!!?
And also what if they find out that i disassembled once.. cause the screws look touched..
lol while editting.. the phone got RGDs back although it seems it is rare, now it means there is chance for them to notice it..
You will find that your warranty does not cover accidental damage, so the shop you purchased it from probably will not replace it.
Unless you took out insurance at time of purchase that covers accidental damage.
Your best option, is to claim under your household contents insurance, but once again, check that mobile phones are covered, some policies do not, as it is an item you take out of house.
Thanks for your reply, I am really blured ,because i'm now on relatives house abroad..
Initially when i get back i will check..
unless you have insurance I cant see you being covered I hope you are though, any form of insurance with the HD2 is a must imo
HSPL + visible damage from the fall + disassembly evidence (there's a sticker on a screw that will be broken if you unscrew it, to show it's been opened) = definitely no warranty.
Even if there was any chance you could claim warranty, HSPL modification alone would void it. And unfortunately there is no way to revert unless you install a stock ROM from SD Card. I know it very well cause I just did it yesterday. Had to send mine to claim warranty as the touch screen failed...
The problem:-
1- restarts many times.
2-randomly shut down when i open Wi-Fi or apps or use it for more than 5 mins.
3-can't turn on sometimes and can't turn on using charger , only pc companion.
4-Burning Smell.
i know there's another thread talks about this problem but pleaese it's a serious common problem , i bought the mobile yesterday and i can't replace it , i've seen this post in SE forms : -
............................................................................................................
It cost about more than 2 hours, and i sat near the engineer looked at what he was doing, everything.
1. He said before this one,he has fix 4 x10 with the same problem. He checked my phone and told me he must take the phone to parts,i agreeed.
2.The restart problem is neither a software problem nor briefly hardware problem. The reason most likely is welding procedure .Between X10's CPU and the chassis on the M/B there is no bayonet(i'm not sure it's the right word), so the closeness of them only depends on colophony(another word i use google to translate it) and solder (the third one).He said when x10 is koncked or bumped, fissure or something others may appear, and when CPU runs at a high level, the ammeter shows a number above 200mA,you can think its fever.Because goods expand with heat and contract with cold, here comes the flexibility. It may influence the contact between cpu and chassis. So the restart happens. He get the CPU off M/B,clear and rebuilt solder on them very carefully, and packed everything back.THIS COST TWO HOURS.
3.When parts became back to a phone,I push sim card,sd card back, truned it on,it booted successed. Then i run the Backup and Restore app,no problem. Before repaired erverytime i run it, the phone restarted.view www web use the brower by 3G, opened servel windows,no problem;Played Asphalt 5 for 10 mins, the phone became hot, still no problem. So i paid for it and left. That cost fuxk 500RMB,nearly 100$!!!!!!!!!!
4.When the engineer was soleing it, i talked to him,he said G7 also has a lot of problem,G7 use the smae CPU as x10,it also may restart.
............................................................................................................
anyone tried this?????
please if anyone has fixed this problem (i know i can change the motherboard but it cost alot , I need Electric solve) . and it's not a software problem at all and n ot in the battry .

64 views and no answer -,-
and btw the phone works well when it's cold but it shut down when it's worm or using Wi-Fi or Calling . so to re-operate it you need to put it in air conditioner then but the battery back and switch on
So far no problem.
By the way the phone had no warranty?
yea , i bought it used and it looks that someone bought it from china and sell it here so the warranty doesn't cover my country.
thanx for telling me that x10 doesn't have another factory problems.
i send it today to one of those small repair places , they said the IC's are burned because of short circuit or something like that so we'll see what will happen tomorrow.
it cost me around 100$ but it doesn't matter as long it work.
sorry to say it but you buy cheap, you get cheap. might have to shell out for some repair work or ditch it and buy a new one. hard luck man.

my friend I am sorry but there is no quick fix for something like this. To repair SMT type circuit boards you need a clean room environment and also some very expensive equipment. My advice is to get a new handset, there are a few people on here that need some parts for their phones and you can off set the cost of a new handset that way.
thanx for the advice , i'll replace it with one that works and with a warranty . this will be my last time buying cheap S***, i really like it and i hope they release android 2.0 soon for it.

As I said there are people who need parts, so it will not be a total loss!
where are you located? I need a few bits.
Tomorrow i'll sell it with around 150 dollar, i'll replace it with another X10 but with WARRANTY this time
just found this thread and it seems to describe my problem with my x10. If the crashing is heat related would using a cpu underclock help?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831658 for more info
my phone doesnt charge the battery, but charging animation is playing, gave to service centre, they told motherboard replacement, but that told we dont do for the handsets without warranty.... pls help how can i sort this prob.
I don't agree with the first post, I had this problem too, and the problem was bad, but as soon I as I flashed with the latest firmware, that problem seems to have been fixed, gone by 2 days without any restarts.
i also have this problem.
The worse is now my charged battery will become red low batt at first and recharge itself back to normal without plug in power...i think i just solve the world energy problem here.
May have fixed the problem, for a bit.
I bought one of these used (x10a), I basically got ripped off by some guy that must have known about the issue. Anyway, I tore the phone apart down to the screen, I left that intact. I cleaned the housing, motherboard and sound jack with compressed air (lightly), cleaned contacts that looked a little dull. I noticed the foil covering the CPU and other components was a little askew and there were some heat bubbles forming. I used a mini spatula as a squeegee and got rid of the bubbles, cleaned up the edges around the foil to insure they didn't contact their neighbors and put the thing back together.
Before this I could use the phone for a call for longer than 2 minutes, the second I ended the call it would crash/reboot. Same with playing games and listening to music at the same time. Movies, forget it. I don't want to curse it because it has only been a day, but no crashes yet and I'm doing/running everything I can to try and get this thing to crash. If it was the bubbles contacting other metal in the chassis then they will probably return sometime in the future.
Who knows.
For now, I say it's fixed. I hope.
I downloaded the schematic and disassembly, reassembly instructions off the net.
UPDATE: Cleaning did not work, I really didn't think it would but it was worth a try. I did however rebake the main board in my convection oven for 10 minutes at 210 degrees Celsius and it worked. I have uploaded videos to youtube. If you're like me, no warranty and don't mind tearing things apart. Check out my videos on youtube, do a search for MrSpywhite.
I had the same problem and SE replaced the motherboard.

That sounds like good news, I have a friend with a similar problem, but his phone has the same behaviour faster than yours... did really work? any problems after the bake? (mic, speaker) ?
Sorry for bumping in a old thread but I am also facing the same problem i guess. Anyone got it to work ?
The motherboard is costing me Rs.8000 ( 160$ approx ) and its a 2 yr old phone. Cant spend that much now on such an old phone.
This solution might help on that cases, as main reason for such things are Pb free soldering (small balls between CPU and MB).

OK so my friend dropped her sgs 2 today. Now the screen won't work
It won't power on and can't access download and recovery modes. Would a USB jig help at all or is she a paperwieght?
Didn't think that it might be because the screen is dead?

Guess its not the screen! Doesnt make any sounds whatsoever.. just heats up during charging thats it.. can i save this phone or is she dead? picking it up today or tommorow to see if i can fix it.
cheers for helping guys xD.
Same issue from a lend out phone at JB Hifi
Having the same issue only the phone is a spare lend out phone from JB Hifi while my SGS2 i9100T, which I purchased about a week ago brand new, is in for a screen assessment (bad blue tint) just so I can get a refund. I powered up the lend out phone no problems, worked for a while then stopped working, won't power up or anything. Download, recovery, usb jig, battery out 5 mins, battery charged seperately in charger, phone is dead.
Shame on you JB Hifi Canberra!
Shades of **** Smith's new *coughsReturneDcoughs* external hard drives
Wish I had a fix for you Unfortunately, given it's a loan phone, you're a bit limited so far as flashing something else goes (I wouldn't risk it, put it that way).

It could be a problem with a faulty SD card - Remove it and try and switch on.
It could be a problem with the screen - If any of the key-lights come on, then that is likely the problem.
It could be a problem with a very flat battery - I had this problem with an old HTC. The solution was to remove the battery, plug in the phone to the charger (not USB to computer), leave it for a couple of minutes, plug in the battery and leave for a couple of hours. Finally try and power it on.

Turned out that the "loan phone" they gave me was a returned faulty phone from a previous customer. They gave it to me simply to shut me up!!! I came back the next morning and confronted them and they gave me a motorola defy loan phone????!!!!! I swear they will bend over backwards to avoid having to refund a phone. He asked another sales person why it was returned and was told that the phone was randomly powering down!!!!!! I asked them what happened regarding the previous customer and the store person said JB lost that claim and had to give in to the customers request(whatever that was). That gives me evidence that a refund at JB may exist?
Yeah ? That's disgraceful And Australian retailers honestly wonder why Australian consumers avoid buying from them at every possible opportunity. There's one more reason right there.
**** em. If a phone starts playing up badly within a week like that, the retailer should replace it no questions asked. At the end of the day they're going to be reimbursed by Samsung, them doing the right thing like that just saves you the grief of having to go thru hoops with Samsung.
And given they couldn't/wouldn't do that with you in the first instance, I'd demand a "decent" lend phone i.e a brand new SGS2 (which they should have given you in the first place). If they refuse to play ball, make a scene in front of other customers. Get management involved. Threaten them with consumer affairs, etc.

Hello, Im not sure if i am having the excact same issue, but this thread seemed similar to what im expereincing.
i bought a S2 6 days ago, reached into my pocket today to find my Display wont turn on.
did some standard stuff, power cycled.
removed the battery, soft and hard reset.
i got the screen to work for a second when i booted into download mode and it prompted to confirm this is what i wanted to do, but otherwsie the screen seems dead. when i power it on, nothing happenson the screen.
did i somehow like turn my brightness to 0? or like turn off the display?
i dunno i just upgraded from a Galaxy Spica, so im not super familiar with the handset yet.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Last night my phone was working fine, when I went to bed it was charging and still working. When I woke up this morning the screen was black, with no response. I tried to get into recovery and download mode with no luck. I tries these steps to get into download mode except for the usb jjg The phone is rooted and a rom has been flashed, but I did that a couple of weeks back. I have no idea how this could have happened. Also when I plug it in to charge there is no response from the phone. The screen stays black no matter what I do.
Also about a week ago, I dropped my phone outside, it was in torrential rain over night. The next day when I found it, it booted up no problem and has been working perfectly until today.
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
I'd really appreciate any help,
Dillon
I'd faced the same issue once. In this state, even if the phone is connected for charging, all that happens is the phone becomes warm. I tried everything and the final solution was to get it replaced. My phone was covered under warranty.

Unfortunately mine is not, I guess I could get a replacement motherboard then, are they easy to replace yourself?
The only replacement motherboard you'll be getting is a 2nd hand one; Samsung don't sell new motherboards (unless you're paying one of their service centres to replace it).
Given it was exposed to water 'overnight' & given it sounds like you used it immediately after water exposure (as opposed to immediately shutting the phone down, removing the battery & leaving it in a bag of rice for a week undisturbed), there's a fair chance even a motherboard replacement won't help if other components are damaged.
Water + electronics = unhappy ending.
Might want to start looking for another phone.

Yeah I did use it straight away, not the smartest move I must admit. I guess I will, just annoying having to buy a new phone. Thanks for the info, and thanks for reminding me about the bag of rice, in case something like this happens to me again.
So i was on bike and it suddenly rained, my phone got wet,i switched it off and left it to dry (didnt open my xperia p), and then my xperia never booted up :crying: ............its dead,
if i keep it to charge, the red LED glows for few minutes and then goes OFF
gave it to sony service center and they said they wont repair the motherboard instead they would replace it, but the cost they are charging me is preposterous. And other service centers dont guarantee if the phone will wrk without any problem in future.(even after repairing)
so now i decided to try and repair it my self (i dont want to buy another cell without even trying to fix this)
So now my question is:
1. Can i test LCD, battery and the motherboard in any way and know if its working?
2. Can i test it individually, if yes, what do i require to do the tests.?
3. The water probably went thru the charging / hdmi port, if i switch on the phone which part of the fone is likely to short circuit?
I have attached images of my xperia p, in which i have circled the affected areas (its more like stains)
Also where can i get spare parts for xperia p @ mumbai or pune
Your help is deeply appreciated........
