Hi all,
My father recently bought a Samsung Galaxy s II from At&T and is in the process of transitioning between jobs. He's had a Blackberry work phone since 2000 so he is looking to transfer all the contacts. The only problem is the firm wiped the Blackberry before they gave it to him. He has all of his outlook contacts, which is the bulk of what he needed anyway, saved in a zip file (Well he says its a zip file I havent seen it yet to confirm) attached to an email he sent himself. So my first question is: is there an easy way to transfer the zip of contacts to his phone and have them show up in his contacts list? If not or if its not actually a zip file, could we in theory transfer the contacts to a spreadsheet and then get that on the phone? Any help would be great, thanks guys
Jared
Probably easiest to import them to Google Contacts on a computer, then sync to the phone.
You're in the wrong forum btw, you'd want

Hi
I got my hero last week and i'm loving it at the moment. I want to back up all my contacts to my google account to make them easy to manage and for back up reasons. For some reason though when the phone syncs it doesn't load my existing contacts(carried onto my hero by sim from my old diamond) into my google contacts?
If I create a new contact on either phone or pc it updates the other accordingly but i just cant get my existing contacts to my google contacts.
I can see the ones that update are labeled as google contacts so i'm guessing i have to label my exisisting ones somehow???
Someone please help as i dont want to have to create all my contacts again
Thanks in advance

I've been looking at this too. One of the groups from my phone has synced to Gmail, but no contacts. Still looking....

Ok, there is a piece of software on the market which moves contacts from "Phone" to "Google". I'm just googleing to see what it is as I can't remember.
Not sure how effective it is, haven't tried it as I've always synced my contacts to google even on WinMo.
Actually, have you tried doing it that way 1st? Set your Diamond to have an ActiveSync with google (m.google.com) and use your google user id and password. This will send all the contacts from your phone to google. Then sync your Hero.
I can't find the program at the minute (10 minutes of looking) but I'm sure its in this Hero forum somewhere about it. Will have another look in a bit
So after 2 years on the HTC Aria, two phones are swapped (not literally since still have the Aria's) for Samsung Galaxy S3.
One of the HTC Aria's uses Gmail to save/sync contacts so it will automatically update phone contacts, the other has always stored phones/names in the phone itself.
Both Aria's are rooted.
What's the simplest way to save the phone contacts and bring them into the Samsung ? Since there is no SIM card on the new Android device, can't use a SIM card to transfer over. Export to a .vcf file on the SDCard does work but can the Samsung import contacts from there ?
Any suggestions ?
Will answer this myself in case it helps someone else.
I installed Android Sync Manager from marketplace, setup WiFi on home router, downloaded to laptop the PC app and contacts were transferred over as comma delimited file which I can import to Samsung device.

Importing the .vcf file should work. It's a basic standard, not something "aria-specific" or even "android-specific"
.vcf file is standard. It would work on any phones running Android OS.
Hi all -
My mom just inherited an AT&T Samsung Galaxy II (rooted, OS ICS 4.0.3, Build IML74K.117) and I am trying to move her contact from her SIM to her phone or, even better sync with her Gmail account.
From the Contacts app, I'm opening the menu and selecting SIM Management, then choosing Copy Contacts From SIM and selecting the option of the Gmail account (I've also tried selecting the Phone option as well). Instead of going to the screen where I can choose the contacts to copy, the phone just goes back to the SIM Management screen. (I took a screenshot of it but it's been 8 minutes and the text is still in Send mode on her phone.)
Any ideas on what is preventing me from being able to move the contacts? My next move is to take it back to stock and see if that doesn't help but that's really a last resort and something I'm trying to avoid.
Thanks in advance!
Lauren
Can you see the contacts when you log into her Gmail account on a computer?

Hi, thanks for responding...
No, because she is coming from a stone-age phone and has never had anything linked to her Gmail account before, which is also new. So in this case, I'm attempting to transfer the SIM contacts to her phone/Gmail account in order to A) get them on the phone in a more unified manner and B) sync with Gmail so that she now has an online backup of her contacts. She's coming from a Motorola Razr circa 2005. For real.
I couldn't say for sure, but the problem could be that the format in which the Razr stored the contacts is not being read by the SGS2 which is kicking you back out of the menu.
This is probably an old thread but no Gmail sync along with cannot send mms, indicate that you probably have no internet access.
Make sure you do have first, either wifi or mobil data turn on

Nope, the format is universal and can be read by pretty much any phone.

First of all, Hello guys!
I wanted to share a problem that I'm facing with. My cousin had a some oldy samsung duos phone(cant remember exact model). So he used it for business. He has over 3400 contacts in it. He got a new phone, and now he asked me to transfer his data, documents etc to the new phone(which I did). Everything went fine expect contacts. I used laptop and MobileGo by Wondershare application to do a manual back of everything he needed. When I exported all the contacts to a .vcf file. He had 3476 contacts al togheter. When I imported that .vcf file to a new phone(also samsung j5 j500), it said that import finished successfully but there are only 978 contacts. There were some duplicate(on the old samsung as well, but not as much to lower contact list from 3400+ to <1000).
He isn't that much into phones,so he didnt use sync option to sync with gmail or something similar.
Can you guys help me,please? I ran out of ideas how to fix this..
Best regards,
Nikola
