NFC is activated, now what? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I running The-Unofficial ROM from The Collective. NFC is activated and I'm curious as hell what it's all about. I wanna use it but I'm not sure where to start. From what I gather, Google wallet will not work for payments at this point on the Note. Are there other forms of payment apps that I can use? I have NFC, what should I do with it? Thanks!

I had no clue what NFC was and just kept ignoring the term when I saw it. But this is COOL! Thanks for posting that article. Am I understanding this correctly that the phone can actually write the code to the tag? So all I need to do is buy a few dirt cheap tags and I can start doing this?
Also, I'm looking on this site... want to make sure these will be ok.

[Q] NFC Applications

Obviously NFC will bring the ability to use the device in place of a credit card. But, I've started researching NFC a bit and see there are some pretty cool things that can be done with NFC tags. Has anyone used these before and if so, what types of things have you done? This seems really cool to me and I'm trying to figure out what might be fun to play with using the tags.

I am excited about this feature as well but can't answer your questions because I have never used it. But your question is one I also have so hopefully someone with experience with NFC will chime in.

NFC card emulation

Not sure how many of you know about this, but there is an app in the play store named nfc classic that lets your phone emulate cards. I know that our phones don't support google wallet so I thought I'd give it a try. I tried to use it with my local public transportation card (marta) which is nfc enabled, and although it read the card, the Marta system didn't recognize the data on my phone as a valid card (probably because of encryption issues). I was thinking it's gotta work for somebody (some comments for the app in the store claimed that it works), so I thought I'd share.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lassic&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
thanks hope it works for me
Sounds neat. I'd love to be able to leave more of my cards at home.
Is there any kind of security? Like I have to enter a pattern or number when a device swipes with my phone?
This most likely will not work unless whatever card you are using uses absolutely no type of security.
Does anybody know where I can buy NFC tag for testing purposes???

If you want to buy them then I suggest http://tagsfordroid.com/ they had a pretty good prices and decent tags.

[Q] Google wallet alternative

Okay after reading through the forums, it appears that for the time being while we can install Google wallet, it is useless. I have also read that the VZW Isis payments are area specific for now. So my question is are there any other alternative apps that we can use to do the same thing? Thanks!
My thought, after having looked around, is there is nothing else like gw, ATM. That may change, but for now, nothing. Isis might be ok, but I think we are probably years away from that getting fully ramped up. Think about it this way, Verizon has yet to even roll it out, them, merchants have to agree to use it and pay their fees, and have to feel like it will generate enough revenue to be worth the cost of new hardware and fees associated with the service. Google got in on an already existing technology, where Verizon's Isis, I think, is totally new. Just my thoughts anyway, I might be way off.
But the upside...we got root in two days, you think these devs are done????? No way. I think several would pony up a bounty for it. It'll come.

Plus one. At least give us a competing product. I feel like I'm renting my phone from them, the way they exert control over their customers is unreal.
I doubt it will ever be enabled. They will be using ISIS believe.
We may have to wait til we get AOSP based roms. I've tried multiple things to get wallet to work. Not going to lie, this is one reason I bough this phone was to use google wallet.

I'm guessing he didn't know it wouldn't be supported beforehand. Probably just saw that it had nfc capabilities and assumed it would be.

Verizon has been vocal about not supporting wallet on their devices. Heck, I think sprint is the only one of the big 4 that actually allows it.

I would say it's not going to be too long before Google waps them upside the head with a suit. Verizon said no NFC mobile payment system, then releases Isis in certain markets claiming Isis uses a "secure element" and Google Wallet does not.
My guess is that Google will have a petition for injunction with the court shortly and VZW will be forced to share the requirements that allowed Isis to be used, then GW will be changed and when VZW refuses to allow it to be used again, Google will have a field day with VZW in the legal system.
One could only hope Google sues them.
It feels like I bought an Apple with all the stuff I can and can't do.
I made a topic on the Verizon website. Let's see what they come up with. Please feel free to post. Voice your opinions:
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/791536
I was a big Google wallet user when I had my nexus. Verizon is NOT blocking Google wallet. The problem is somewhat complex, but simplisticly speaking, to make it work, Google needs help from Verizon to use the secure element, Google can't do it on there own. Verizon will NOT help and the reason isn't totally clear, as originally Verizon said they couldn't help Google because they had a CONTRACT with Isis, and could not violate the contract. They have since not been hiding behind that reason, but with the threat of Isis sueing them, Google wallet is hands off.
The good news (or better anyway) that just because Verizon won't help, developers can. With other Verizon phones, ROMS have in fact supported it and make it work.
Earlier I said complex issue, and the complexity is that to PROPERLYmake wallet work and be A SECURE system with all the versions of android etc is not easy.
Google could easily make it work, but it can't be a success if it isn't safe and secure and would be a theft target in this form.
So our hope to see it work on this phone, is left up to the development community.
Last thing to think about is if the secure element gets changed, it will have to be dealt with again, and the developers are again the only hope for Google wallet.
Hope that clears some of it up.

sorry to tell you sir but you are wrong. verizon has always requested that this app is blocked with google and the software they approve per device. plus the nexus did not work unless you side loaded the app

Not sure which part I am wrong in, however you are correct in the fact that they requested the app not be available in Google because they did not support it. That is why I said this is complex, but if that is what you call blocking then I guess (in its rawest form) you are correct and consider it blocked on the surface, however if you side loaded it it did work, and was not blocked from working. (just maybe a definition of blocked) is our arguement. I have a nexus too and Google wallet works perfect everytime not blocked.
The big question regardless of this, is then for the DNA users as follows: you can go to playstore and download Google wallet and no matter what you do, it does not work? Why you ask? Is Verizon blocking it? Depending on your definition of blocked then the answer is maybe? I say they are not blocking it from working on the network. Is it fair to say they are blocking it by not supporting it?
Not to make this any more unclear, but there is apparently discussion as to whether the nfc specs for the DNA can commuicate properly for Google wallet anyway. I wouldn't put it past Verizon to cripple the hardware.

I don't think we will ever have Google wallet. This is a response from DSB9938, reply 84 on his system write kernel.
Besides the fact that this is not a Wallet thread, our phone has no secure element.

Google wallet in its current form needs secure element. So unless Google changes that... we are SOL
The reason we can get it on the store is because Verizon lost a case in court and was forced to allow it, so now this is their plan b.

It's in Play Store.
Well, if you don't trust her then why are you with her. If she wanna cheat, she surely will cheat. No matter what you do...you can't force her on that. If you do... There more likely chances of divorce.
But still there are many reasons women don't leave their husband even even if they love another person...if you know what I mean.

Love is blind..but you aren't... If you know she's cheating... Leave her... You can always find more better...as others say," Plenty of other fish in sea "...or whatever... Don't use means to spy on her...if she finds she herself would divorce I think...what I know from experience is true love never cheats...and nothing is more satisfying than finding the right person...
Its no good to spend your life with person you don't trust..
Anyways, you're on your own...I can't force you or something.. But nothing is bad in getting free tip.
And the app you say, there are plenty in market... Search something like SMS spy or parental spy...just get the hint. I doubt that you get any free one but what's wrong with searching. You can always try.

Oh really ??
A guy simply asked for .apk and you come up with a psychotherapy or marriage counselling ? Are you kidding or sth ?
Get kids first then you'll know why it's not so easy to dump a wife...In majority of western countries and EU wife gets sole rights over the kids after divorce no matter what (unless you can prove drugs / insanity)
Also don't be so sure these days about wives sticking to their husbands & status quo.
Kids is not really a magnet...Mortgage usually is but selling a house is easy...
You will not find any info here about keyloggers. They are illegal and in so against XDA rules.
