It's the same with iPhone, Android or other WP.
16GB is the total memory of the phone. After adding the OS, it reduces.
My HTC Sensation XL is exactly the same phone as Titan but running Android. It's available memory is - 11.97 GB total brand new.
This means WP OS takes up nearly 3.15 GB on Titan
and Android OS takes up nearly 4.03 GB on Sensation XL.
memory more than the other phones so why not.
for example, about HD7 14.63 gb.
I learned why he was leaving the place dexter_89. w8 w8 support and the size of this device arrives between 2.50 and 3-50 gb place so he hides it
Think we are lucky having just 12GB, HTC One s has just 10GB lmao.
I presume some of the space is taken up by loads of language files. When we eventually get custom roms we can get just one language file we need and save space?

I just purchased the sprint hero. What should my internal storage memory be right out the box? The specs are 288 but when I first turned it on and without any apps, my internal storage memory is 142. Is that right?

I guess I will answer my own question. I finally decided to call HTC with my question. They said that the Sprint Hero indeed has 288mb internal phone storage but we are only gonna get about 142mb for apps. The rest of the storage is being used by the apps and system stuff that come with the phone. So, 138mb is being used by the phone before we even download any apps. That sucks! I cant wait untill this phone becomes Rootable!!
How come the EVO 3D only has 1 gig of internal storage? I'm really wanting this phone this worries me. My Asus Transformer has 32 gigs of internal storage and with all the apps and everything I have on it, I'm well above 18 gigs used. And that's not including movies (stored on MicroSD).
So with that said, with 1 gig of internal storage, this device is VERY limited to how many programs you can load onto it right?
And I know there is App2SD but not all apps are compatible doing that. How do you guys fare with such limited internal storage?
Even on the OGVO I never had issues, but then again, I don't download the entire market.
When they start releasing roms I'm sure it will free up a couple more gb of internal storage BC were suppose to have 4. I think but I'm not sure a lot of rom was used for sense and the security they used to lock the phone.

No problems here. I haunt even used a third.. there is no need to have hundreds of apps..

* Pre-Honeycomb Android versions have a space limitation on installed apps.
* Froyo and Gingerbread grants the ability to move applicable apps to external media (microSD).
* Honeycomb takes advantage of all available space for application installation while removing the ability to move apps to external media.

You do realize that you are confusing the storage mediums, right? The 32gb of storage on your transformer is the same as the 8gb of storage on the SD card that comes with the Evo 3D. You can always install a 32gb card if you want. The Asus only has 1gb of "internal storage." in the way you are lookig at this.
You really are not going to find many phones with more internal storage unless they are sealed and have no MicroSD slot (aka iPhone).
Well I was really worried to owned a EVO and only had like 400 mb left. And the Thunderbird like 2.5 gb free (out of the 8gb internal that they say it has) anyways most apps over 10mb will let you moved to SD card , I download a lot apps and games are the only ones with the big space , I was amazed the most 10 mb + in iPhone were only like 3mb in Android, so don't worry you'll be ok
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

Isn't the 16/32GB on the transformer internal (with the ability to add up to another 32GB via microSD)? (I'm not sure, hence the question)
Dude 1GB is like a godsend for me. My OGVO had >300MB when it was bone stock, I'm very thankful for my 1GB and you should be too. But I also try not to load up my phones with bull**** I never use and usually have like 2-8 apps downloaded, max. I'd just get a bigger SD card if it bothers you that much, 32 gigs is like $40.
A lot of the 4gb is the ROM and security features. Once we can install custom ROMs we will get a couple gigs back. I don't know why I just said that. A previous poster said that. LOL I fail at forums. ;P

It's internal in the sense that it is built inside the unit, but its more like a SSD setup. Another way to think about it is like the 16/32 you are talking about is a MicroSD and you can add a second MicroSD. I mean it's not, but for conceptual reasons, that is one way to understand it.
You are correct....however...this 1g is for sense...apps and memory management file and the 3vo has plenty unless you are going to load 600+ apps SD another user here does...600 hundred...my god...
I was a bit concerned at first coming from a Droid x. That thing was the king of space when it came out. I think apps to SD was just coming out then. Now almost all apps are s2d. I've got 50+ apps using 300mb on phone, a couple gigs app usage on SD. I don't think its an issue any more.

Hi to all,
I have a new HTC Titan brand Vodafone Italy.
I have installed the SYSTEM INFORMATION app and in storage section i read:
Total memory: 349,16 MB
Available storage: 11,77 GB
my old Omnia 7 had almost 500MB of total memory and almost 14GB of storage!!
Is my new Titan broken or it is normal? (less memory than Omnia 7???)
Same for me.

Really? So it's not my Titan that has less memory than Omnia7 i presume.
So, can we say that HTC version os WP7.5 take more than Samsung's one ?
and wy? may be HTC Hub ?

probably htc hub and some tweaks we have such as the activation of the speakers when you turn the mobile phone with the screen facing the table.
I switched from an iPhone 4 32Gb to the Titan (my second, I have one before having my iPhone ^^) and except this and angry birds it's a great phone, you can always use Skydrive to get a bit more space.

Give or take 200MB that WP7 uses for itself... And since it's Flash Memory instead of an SDcard the storage is being shared with everything else...
Blank Partition
WP7
Crap from the carrier
HTC Apps
Then actual User Media
And the usual fact that you never get the total storage from things
Windows Phone might look light and simple on top but underneath its pretty heavy
I bought a HTC Flyer 7 inch 32GB 3G WiFi
but when I connect it to my computer, it read as only 19.6GB (as attached picture) not near or close to 32 GB as it said .
Why???
That is normal. Just under 20 GB is available as user storage on the 32 GB Flyer.
The rest is partitioned for the OS and apps.
Thank you, That clear out my confuse.
Well I have calcualted that I have 32 GB of my 64GB used personally with music/pictures/videos. But i seem to have around 10GB of data unaccounted for, any ideas?
From root ( using folder size chart to get folder size's)
Folders by size ( not sure but 3 seem to be duplicates )
MNT: 31,905.4 MB
SDcard: 31,905.4 MB
Storage: 31,905.4 MB
System: 842.32 MB
ECT: 28.6MB
Vendor: 18.4MB
everything else blow that isnt worth listing ( in the low KB-MB range )
Total: ~ 32.02 GB ( assuming MNT/SDcard/Storage, are all pointing to the same data)
Phone default storage:
39.96GB of 64GB and its break down is:
apps 388MB
Music: 26.93GB
Pics/Videos: 1.15GB
Downloads: 1GB
Other: 10.52GB
Available: 24.04GB
Any ideas on what the mysterious 10GB of "BS" is? Considering I just rooted/formated/rom-ed my phone it should be at closer to 32GB not 39.96GB.

The other might be sd data for apps/games. That's all I can think of.

It has to be something to do with the phone software because I started with 55gb of storage after unlocking bootloader so I don't know what's taking up all that room bit I had the same thing. I'm not worried about it yet as I still have 30 gb left but when that runs out that extra 10 gb could cone in handy of I ever need it

It could be music if you save your music to your phone using google play music. Sense doesn't see those songs as songs because they're encrypted and not a .mp3, so it counts it as other. I'm pretty sure aosp handles this correctly though.
If it's not music, I suggest using SD Maid to find out what it is.

They aren't encrypted, although they are hidden but fairly easy to get to.
In a directory on your sdcard where its located there's a file called .nomedia that tells apps not to look there for media files.
You can still use a file explorer to pull the files out or delete the file
The songs aren't named but just download an app to auto name them and your golden

well i have my android back ups calculated in the "personal" data section since they were in my clocworkmod>backup folder. which were 2Gb
I am starting to think that the issue lies with the phone showing up as 55GB when connected to pc and 64 GB when looking at the phones internal settings

Did you check Android/ data it can get pretty large, and although it will slightly slow down things such as the amount of time it takes to load album art and map caches, you can safely delete it on occasion to see of that helps.
When I first got my HTC One X+, I immediately checked the storage and found that 9.xx GB was taken up completely. This is pretty fair to me because, other 64GB devices I have owned in the past have said that I've only had, say, 52GB available, so at least the phone takes into account actual capacity. But yeah, 10GB wasted. I mean, I can't really argue, 64GB is a LOT of space, but I really doubt Android and HTC Sense take up more than 3 gigs.

new HOX+ today, same thing. i cant complain, since i came from the 16gb One X xD
The 9/10GB in question, are the other partitions on the nand. It does not matter how much space Android & Sense take up, as the partitions are set sizes.
