Going to get an S2, some questions - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, after the death of my Evo 3D, i'm thinking about buying a GS2.
How is it? Do you suggest it to me?
I have some questions about battery and building quality, how are those?

Make sure its i9100 and not some i9100G

The seller said that its code is GT-i9100

Make sure its not a G model and double check its not a G model .

Whats the difference? I too my be getting one. However after checking out att and tmobile's website i noticed the t mobile version has a 1.5 not a 1.2 Ghz processor. is this correct? Also how hard is it to CID unlock the tmobile version?

Its 1.5 because of snapdragon 3 chipset and its weaker BTW
And also have different sections so the roms here are not compilable with them

Wait, so the T-Mobile version, the 1.5, and it has a weaker processor than a 1.2? How so? And what do you mean "And also have different sections.." as in CDMA and GSM sections?

Clock speed doesn't really matter
exynos 4210(1.2 Ghz) is better than snapdragon 3(1.5 Ghz)
Just google search for it
You will get 1.5 ghz(weaker one with less dev) on at&t
From t-mob you will get epic touch 4g(same as international in hardware but different buttons and different section)
So its better to buy i9100 international unlocked sgs2 if you care about development

Dont buy it noww..
Wait for sme rtme and get the Samsung galaxy S3....
SGS2 is now a year old...

More horsepower doesn't mean that a car is faster. (Nissan GT-R anyone?)
Just the same thing with cameras and megapixels.

[Q] Info on Tmo GS2

Can anyone tell me what the TMO GS2 will be referred to as in cyanogen lingo? Also will the existing CM7 ROMS for the GS2 work on the TMO version?
I realize that the product hasn't shipped quite yet but just wondered what was going to be involved to get CM7 ported to TMO's version? I assume not much but then again TMO is using a different processor than the rest. Not looking for a hard answer here, just an educated guess as to what was involved based on similar situations.
Nothing for sgs2 international version will work on the tmob version.

Thanks. Would you guess that the tmo port would be pretty straightforward?

Unlike the at&t sgs2 which is almost identical to the int sgs2 porting to the tmob sgs2 is like porting to a whole new phone, so not really straightforward.
As noted the 1.5ghz chip in the tmob sgs2 is not any faster than the int version, so i would lean towards importing an int version, as long as it can run on tmobs 3g bands.

There has been no official word on the dual core version the only reason there is some speculation was because something a Samsung executive said when he should not have and a device profile for Verizon.
Now don't get me wrong here I still thing the US LTE versions are going to have the S4 chipset but I am going to keep my hopes up and pray to god we don't get an HTC One X clone(Hardware Wise)

Do what everyone else has done, read the reviews and posts, they will answer 99% of all "will it......" questions.
Don't mean to pick on you and I will say I am sorry if that's how I come off but the sections are really getting cluttered with some useless questions. I enjoy reading all the reviews and watching the videos of people who already have them in their hands. It's very informative.

The S4 has a built-in LTE modem, Samsung has not yet made their own SoC with a LTE modem in it.
Basically they would have to make room for a LTE chip, and instead of doing that they simply opt for the S4 with the built-in LTE modem.

The change is processors. The US versions have a dual core processor so they can support LTE. Any other version with LTE will also only have a dual core processor.

Galaxy S III (LTE) S4 Development?

Since all the LTE Variants have identical hardware, and radio, would you deem it possible to have interchangeable roms?

That makes me wonder, would all (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, Rogers, etc) the S4, LTE Devs share the same initial repository through Github for development and just branch off with the different Init.d, and radio files?
Is this how it's done for the Galaxy Nexus?

It will greatly reduce the time for getting aosp up and running as many more devs will be working with the same hardware....the only thing that really needs to be different is the device tree...porting from gsm to cdma and vice versa will be easy. Replace vendor folder in system then replace apns-conf.xml with the one for your phone.edit build prop and it should boot.you may have to fix a couple things but hard work is done.like with gnex all kernels should be interchangeable.....gsm kernels work with cdma and vice versa........

S4 as in the processor
I expect the North American S4 variants to receive the best developer support to date for an Android phone! As it's been explained, it's basically the exact same phone across all of Canada and the US. And with the powerful processor and 2Gb RAM, we could be in for since amazing ROMs, hacks, tweaks, and more. Can't wait!

Docomo version has a digital TV tuner, dual-mode NFC-A/NFC-F but no FM radio.

Agreed. It's been confirmed we are infact getting our own dev forum, the layout of which is still being discussed.
I don't think the S4 version will get as nearly as much development as everyone will go for the superior quad core version. 2GB ram is useless of you have a crippled copy to begin with.

You think that the entire North American market is somehow tiny from a development standpoint?
Just how many people do you expect to pony up for a more expensive international version with more limited functionality on most carriers over here?
Statements like this just confuse the hell out of me. Though I really shouldn't be responding to trolls to begin with...

Is this phone worth buying?

Sorry if this has already been posted or is in the wrong section i am new to the forums.
Okay i recently got into rooting and putting custom roms on my phone right now i have an HTC evo 4g.
But i am eligable for an upgrade with sprint i have been waiting for a while because i knew there would be an amazing phone to be released soon enough and i am starting to think the SIII.
Is this phone worth it? I would only be paying 250$ for the 32gb and 199$ for the 16gb with my upgrade.
is there any other phones that are up there with the galaxy s3 on sprints network? Or should i just go and get this phone.
is it alot faster then the s2? also will i be able to put jellybean on it if i was to get it? is there a stable release out.
Yes. Go get this phone.
Is the best currently available.

Buy the phone if you want it. It's a great phone but it may not suit your needs. Check it the specs and compare it with other phones you can choose from .
Your s3 model won't be the international version, it will be the dial core version so check their forum to see their development.

The dual core GS3 has documented and developer-friendly Qualcomm = definitely worth buying.
S3 is easily the best phone I have ever owned (and I have owned a great many top-spec phones).
That said I preferred the S2 in terms of size and weight. But the S3 has a higher quality screen and considerably better battery life
Oooh i see now the I9300 is the quad core version which is not in the US
The US version is dual core.

Thank you very much.
Just wanted to add my opinion to this one as I'm sick of all the exnos bashing.
Just because cm devs can't get it to work properly does not mean it's bad. It's the best version and I've never ever used a ti Omap or Qualcomm based phone that wasn't **** and dont get me started on cm roms on phones as from desire onwards I've never encountered a cm version worth installing as they aren't worth it. Stock android has always been and always will be lacking and ugly no matter how many cookie cutter mods you implement like volume button wake which is old old old.
Do yourself a favour and stick to Samsung based roms and save the headache and the laughs from people who see your stock android device and the pictures that come off the aosp camera among other things.
The SG III is way better value than the iphone 5.
If you want something "worth buying", you are the only one who can actually decide on this.. because it may/may not suit you. So i suggest you search and gather info for yourself so you get accurate infos
I do not mean to flame or anything, just a mini-suggestion. Hopefully this will help you in your decision
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I am surprised that no one said that you should wait for the Note 2 or the new Nexus or the next Galaxy S x, where x>3. There will always be better, but when you actually start using the phone you see that you don't need anything more, except less call log lag
It is that great that I don't even have the urge to root it right now and I rooted and reflashed everything android I had before.
