Operation #MotoBBB - Motorola Photon 4G

Operation #MotoBBB:
I really don't know how useful making a new petition at Change.org is going to do, given that OP MOSH didn't lead us anywhere. But I feel that this + the BBB complaint rally may take us somewhere. Because, for each new BBB complaint, Motorola receives a brand new complaint, a brand new email to reply to and each email they ignore, the more their ratings and ranking and reputation will be affected at BBB.
So, here is the new petition @Change.org:
https://www.change.org/petitions/mo...s-unlock-the-bootloaders?share_id=ZhoxoqVsuz&
The aim of the petition is to get an apology from Motorola and Verizon, get all our Bootloaders unlocked AND get all the devices released within 18 months of the ICS release date to be updated to ICS.
The aim of the BBB complaint is to submit a personal, one on one complaint to Motorola. The way this works is that Motorola will get an email detailing the complaint and they should respond to it within a month, else it will count negatively on their ratings at BBB. An XDA member named iBolski already did this and he got a very detailed response. So this seems to be effective.
Secondly, I and several other users at the Droid X2 forums have also filed a complaint. Though we didn't get a response yet, I feel that Motorola is taking its time as it wants to respond correctly. So, I feel that this is adding pressure to them. Nevertheless, the fact that they MUST respond, otherwise face consequences definitely means that if a sizeable number of people complain, they will be under severe pressure.
So far 9,279 people signed the OP MOSH petition. I can't imagine how much pressure this will cause if each person who signed that petition also filed a BBB complaint. So many BBB complaints in such a short time would firstly be a record and secondly will be a huge pressure on Motorola who HAVE to respond to each and everyone of them, else face consequences.
Therefore, I URGE you to file a BBB complaint, even if you Don't sign the petition. But please do sign the petition once you file a complaint since that way I will know how many of you guys filed a BBB complaint!
Attached is a template letter for filing for the BBB complaint AND instructions on how to do so!
May we prevail! Please do submit this thread as a news tip! The more people know about this, the stronger we get! If you want to follow my ongoing struggle with Motorola, go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547632

P.S: Moderators, upon consulting with a few xda members I felt that this is NOT spamming as I am soliciting the help of members across several forums. Hence, please do not ban or in other ways punish me. If this is spam, kindly let me know, since I have done this for the first time and moreover, as can clearly be seen from the post I am bringing forth a genuine concern that needs me to post this across all Motorola android phone forums! Thank you for understanding.
Also, Moderators, please note that several other users from the Razr community said that this is a good idea and that it would be nice to submit this thread to the Photon 4G forum too! So, it is based on the request of users that I did so, and not generally spamming. Plus, it appears that users are appreciating my efforts!

Posting by guests, name-calling, double posts, etc.

First of all, allow me to make a compliment: you're a well-behaved crowd, and it's a pleasure hosting this forum. We're only asking you the above because although we feel we can deal with the extra noise generated by anonymous users, we want to know how others feel about it.
I the mean time, we hope everyone is OK with us deleting:
posts where users start swearing at one-another for no apparent reason.
duplicates. Please assume lots of people read almost everything that is posted, so don't post twice. If you're afraid people will miss your post because it's 'only' a reply, then post a new topic (if you must).
'guest' posts which obviously call for others to contact the poster (haven't deleted any of these yet...). If people want to be reacheable, then they should get an account. 'Reply on this forum to get in touch with me' is just too silly.
Warez, serialz, etz...
Almost forgot: we will also delete any posts asking for copies of commercial software or serial numbers, as well as posts from people offering them.
As said in previous discussions: we do not have any major moral objections, but mostly just practical ones: warez trading in forums like this tends to get rather big rather quickly, and often gets in the way of more content-focused discussion.
We recommend news://alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc for all your warez-trading needs.
don't let guests register
I tend to register only after a site has proven it's value.
Guests are not annoying on the premis that there is some form of crowd control which is the case here. I agree about the warez trading but don't think the real risk is in the occasional user/guest trying to save a few bucks. Those can be handled. The real 'risk' for boards like this are the commercial traders, those should be banned fiercly.
Robert
a real requirement
hmmmm, reading back my message
i could use a spellchecker on this board!!!
I reckon registration gives an air of security to posters, but can only go a small way towards keeping out unwelcome posts such as flames and warez.
Wouldn't it be great if all the energy that went in to hacking, blagging and flaming was diverted into constructive use?
Dream on.

Hey... We're hacking...
Sorry. I reverted to the derogatory usage of the word.
Must remember my audience.
I've twice ended up posting as a guest after I registered because I forgot to enter my username. Though this time it has automatically recognised me, other times it hasn't for some reason.
I agree

I have done similar. Mainly due to using so many different computers. Home, work, friends etc. So my suggestion is to make it clearer when you're not logged in.
Perhaps when you write a message just "gently" ask to register before posting. But not insist.
After all for those people intent on destruction, all that they have to do is register each time they come back. A deterent but simple to get around..

Positive asus request

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to make this post positive and I'd like to ask for your help with this request. Stressing, please keep replies positive so we can get an official response.* I returned my Prime because I was unhappy with the Wifi performance, browser lockups, unhappy with how GPS was handled, and unhappy with the lack of response from Asus support. However, I'd like to repurchase the TF201 again and feel good about my purchase, but to repurchase I need responses from Asus beyond a forum post.
Asus, can the company please provide a single location (preferably on www.asus.com) which is updated regularily and provides:
1) Status of known issues with the TF201 that at a minimum includes the following:
* a) GPS - be straightforward and restate that there is no longer GPS support for the product. I'm fine with that.
* b) WIFI - since many (not all) are not happy with wifi performance, tell us what type of performance users can expect on both 'G' and 'N' networks as distance from the router increases. Is performance going to be improved, and if yes, what type of performance can be expected.
* c) Other issues which are impacting users who respond to this thread.
2) Will Asus guarantee some level of performance metrics, which issue will you guarantee resolved, in what timeframe, and for how long is the guarantee valid? What's the guarantee - moneyback or something else?
3) Document the different HW revisions that have bee manufactured and include a change log of the changes and what issues were addressed.
4) Explain what is going on with manufacturing and why there is the appearance that some retailers are no longer offering the product while others are only receiving very small quantities. If this is wrong and large volumes are being shipped and retailers can't keep up, state so and be upfront with how many have shipped. Right now I'm hesitant on moving ahead assuming there may be other hardware issues being resolved behind closed doors.
*) ASUS: Please provide a straight-forward statement on what is happening with the items above and any that may be included in responses to this thread.
This information provides users like myself the information needed to decide whether or not to repurchase the prime. I'm happy to work through the growing pains if I feel comfortable that a solution is coming. **Please, no more searching through forums to find relevant posts.** Start pointing us to a single site which contains all relevant information at www.asus.com.
Fellow Members: Rather than suggesting that Asus provide a free upgrade to their latest tablet when released or other unrealistic demands, let's ask for the minimum to keep this product and be happy with the purchase. Please reply, keep it positive, and endorse. Hopefully this will get noticed by the Gary the marketing manager who has been making several posts. If this goes negative, my take is it will be ignored.
Thanks in advance for replying, endorsing, and keeping your posts positive.
I think if you pm him a link to this thread and put it in one of his sticky threads up top, you may get a faster response. He is away traveling ATM so responses may be delayed.

Hi Dedmandarin - Thanks for responding - How do I PM him a link to the threat and put it in one of his sticky threads? Appreciate the help.
Just click on his name and press the personal message option. AS far as how to do a link, just go up to the top of your browser. Long press/click the whole URL address n press copy. Then in the message and/or thread, long press the area where you going to write at then press paste.
IF THE LINK you copy doesn't have www. Or http:// in front it, add it to the link in the beginning to make it a hyperlink. SO HE CAN JUST CLICK it and itll take him straight to your thread.*

Hella no, it's not spam it's stepping up to the plate, to swing with brute force.
This ISN'T my Transformer Prime
Not spam
I don't think it would be spam any more than posting links to a petition and asking people to sign it it all the forums. Either way, the BBB thread was getting off topic anyways...

How to File Formal Request to Motorola

Not to say this will make it a reality for us to receive an official unlocked boot loader but check out Motorola Mobility's External Idea Submission page here http://eis.motorola.com and let us be heard formally. According to the site, "EIS is the only method by which Motorola Mobility will receive and/or review any unsolicited external idea. Any external idea submitted to Motorola Mobility, Inc. by any other means will not be reviewed and will be promptly returned to the submitter, if physical, or automatically deleted, if electronic."
We can only hope and let's keep this going guys. At least at the moment, unofficially via the Motorola Forums, a Motorola Employee and forum moderator has responded to my questions in reference to our recent response to Soni's announcement and request for an unlocked boot loader and additional drivers necessary to support the devices on our own. This at least shows us in one avenue they are hearing us outside of the social sites.
So let's file our requests formally to get it into their ticketing system as another avenue of hope. Or maybe I am just too optimistic and delirious at this point. :silly:
Cheers,
GP
What does the term external idea mean specifically to the site you reference?
It sounds rather vague and searching for it shows some different meanings.

I believe "external" means outside of Motorola and unsolicited means that they did not pursue or give us a list of ideas or option to choose from that could sway their vetting process. Just another mechanism to possibly be objective in picking or researching the next features or functionality to implement in their devices. Because if they were to conduct internal feedback then it is "internal" and may not be what customers/consumers really want.
Plus, maybe an employee could be voicing an opinion or request from consumers but also receiving requests externally it validates what they have already on their list of topics and ideas for releasing? Just my guess. But at least there is a "formal" way of getting our requests heard.

So I filed my formal request for the idea of having the official bootloader released and here is the general information that they provide, which is an actual EIS ID # to track the request and the following verbiage which I hope shines some more light into your question:
Thank you for providing Motorola Mobility, Inc. with your unsolicited idea.
We have a dedicated team, “External Idea Submissions” that reviews such submissions. Our team will contact you within thirty (30) days to indicate if we are interested in discussing your idea further. (Please note: Only the External Idea Submissions team has access to your submission.)
For your records, below we have reproduced the terms and conditions under which you agreed and provided your submission.
We wish you good luck in your endeavors.
Sincerely,
Motorola Mobility, Inc.

EIS LEGAL NOTICE:
PLEASE BE ADVISED, MOTOROLA MOBILITY INC. IS ONLY WILLING TO RECEIVE YOUR UNSOLICITED IDEA SUBMISSION UPON THE CONDITION THAT YOU AGREE TO ALL THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CONTAINED IN THE BELOW AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT, CLICK THE "CANCEL" BUTTON AND YOUR INFORMATION WILL NOT BE SUBMITTED TO MOTOROLA MOBILITY, INC.
MOTOROLA MOBILITY, INC. -- EIS LEGAL AGREEMENT
Over the years many ideas for improvements have been voluntarily submitted to us by persons outside of Motorola Mobility, Inc. ("Motorola"). We appreciate the confidence in Motorola shown by such persons. We do not require that the submitter obtain, or even to have applied for, a patent on an idea before submitting the idea. If a disclosure is made under the conditions recited herein, and the Motorola is interested thereafter in further considering the idea, negotiations will be undertaken to try to arrive at terms which are equitable to both parties and will take care of the needs of the particular situation.
Motorola is only will to permit Your submission of Your unsolicited idea, if you agree and acknowledge that Your submission hereunder does not imply or create:
1. A confidential relationship for any idea submitted to Motorola.
2. A promise to pay, inasmuch as Motorola's obligations to You, the submitter, under all circumstance shall be only those which are made to You in writing; and
3. A recognition by Motorola of either the novelty or originality of the Your unsolicited idea.
Motorola cannot consider an idea on the condition that it shall return any material submitted if the idea is not found to be of interest. When the material is submitted to Motorola hereunder, You, the submitter, should keep a duplicate for Your own record, and should any controversy unfortunately arise, this material is necessary as evidence of what was disclosed to Motorola.
If a patent has issued, You may simply submit a copy of the same with additional comments that might be helpful.
If an application for patent has been filed, a copy of the same can be submitted to Motorola for its consideration. Otherwise the disclosure should be by written description and sketches, and all should be sufficiently complete and clear so that Your unsolicited idea can be readily understood.
In whatever form an unsolicited idea or a patent invention is submitted to Motorola, it will be helpful if You, the submitter, point out what You believe to be new, and set forth some of the advantages which You think Your unsolicited idea has over known devices or processes.
Motorola will give Your submission such consideration as in the judgment of Motorola it merits, but in reporting its conclusion can assume no obligation further than to say whether or not it is interested in acquiring patent rights or other rights.
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between You and Motorola with respect to Your submission hereunder, and supersedes all previous communications, representations, understandings and agreements, either oral or written, between You and Motorola regarding Your submission. This Agreement may not be modified or waived except in writing and signed by an officer or other authorized representative of each party. If any provision is held invalid, all other provisions shall remain valid, unless such invalidity would frustrate the purpose of our Agreement. The failure of either party to enforce any rights granted hereunder or to take action against the other party in the event of any breach hereunder shall not be deemed a waiver by that party as to subsequent enforcement of rights or subsequent action in the event of future breaches.

Sure. Done as requested.

Crying inside

I just went to both the T-Mobile and Sprint forums, just for kicks, to see what they have to choose from. And what do I see, everything I want!!!! I'm so sad, why can't Verizon stop being douche bags and let us unlock our bootloaders!!!! Like htc, they log who had unlocked it so even if we revert to stock they still know we went through the unlocking process.
I saw and signed, the Verizon unlock bootloader petition, but that is just sending a very simple email to Samsung and Verizon, it's not getting in the public eye. What we need to do is create a petition with change . org and maybe challenge the current law that allows then to do this. I mean purchased this phone, it's our phone, we should be the deciders if our phones bootloader is unlocked or not.
I am going to check it out and research and start one. I believe if we hit 100,000 signatures the whitehouse must respond to it and we may win a battle the devs have been fighting for a very long time. I will be back so stay tuned, let's use this thread as a discussion thread, please don't close and lock this thread.
Thanks

Couple of points
I am going to try to sound as friendly as possible, but you know how online works, every thing is taken in a hostile way.
1- we have a thread with the same petition, that no re-reading your post says you have seen and signed it, its also a change.org petition too. Started by a member who I really respect, Brandonrz. We hit a lil over 650 sigs and it has been around for a long time. So not sure how another petition on the same site will generate more sigs.
2- its not your phone, more than half of it is subsidized by verizon. If you want your own phone, buy a DE phone. It comes in unlocked, for the full retail price. Tmobile users pay the full price of the phone, just spread out. Not sure how sprint subsidy works.
3- I really cant speak for mods, but from what I have seen, they don't respond well to " don't lock or close threads" they prefer those statements to be made in private messaging. Again, this is just a friendly advice, I am not a mod, and I cant speak for them.
4- one mod made a point before: XDA is not a petition site, its a development site. She/He was nice enough to let one petition thread stay, not sure if they will react the same in regard to this thread.
all the best .

In response to the quoted portions of the previous post;
#1- This is exactly right, there is an existing petition thread for this same exact issue, please do not duplicate existing threads.
#2- This is also true, however, I fully support the fact that carriers should not be allowed to hide open source software behind proprietary programs by means of a method termed Tivoization.
That being said, the Kernels for android were released under GPLv2, and this issue was not countered by the FSF until the release of GPLv3, effectively tying our hands. A petition might let them know you're angry about it, but they have every right under current law and licensing to laugh at you. And they are.
#4- You're absolutely right, I will not. Creating this second thread for the same purposes of the original serves no purpose and becomes redundant. While I can appreciate the passion displayed by the OP in regards to this matter, this thread is closed as a duplicate. Please be sure to read the Forum Rules in regards to posting.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
