Unlock Bootloader - downgrading - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

if i want to downgrade my FW from .62 i must unlock bootloader?
there is no way to root .62 fw, right?

yeah, no way to root .62
if u want to root, flash to .58 fw,
or use custom kernel.

To flash firmware u dont need to unlock bootloader. Unlocking is needed to boot custom kernels.

How to root stock xperia mini with .62?? HELP PLEASE

I lost my root when i upgraded to .62.. How to I root it now?? theres this thread but I dont know how to use it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
The easiest way is downgrade to 0.42 with wotanserver, root your phone with doomlords method, and then update OTA (over the air) that is to update directly from your phone not using your pc.Also there is this method.
if you are on stock rom .62 and have unlocked bootloader
the best way is flashing a custom kernel, like bbooff kernel.
This is stock kernel .62 only added CWM and root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440161
next way is flash back stock rom .42 via flashtool and stock rom (you have to download it)
or use www.WotanServer.com ( it is free for SE Users ) flash back to .42 or .58 then root and then try update from your handy to .62 use update center and option update over wlan
------------
i used flashtool and stockrom .42. rooted with superoneclick and then updated via update center ( using wlan) to .62. and root was still there
and now i´m using bbooff kernel, because CWM is installed in kernel and not in system (rom) partition and it works with stock rom or hybrom, not tested any other custom roms right now.

Relocking bootloader requires stock kernel. Kernel is included in a ftf file. The complete stock firmware is in ftf file, which you need to install via Flashtool.

[Q]Official ICS ftf to be flashed to an unlocked bootloader?

im a little bit confused.. just wanna know.. is it necessary for users with unlocked bootloader to flash the relock BL ftf first before flashing official ICS ftf or we can proceed to flashing official ics ftf w/o relocking the bootloader?
See my FAQ thread on updating to ICS.
Thanks,

You don't need to relock it. You only need to relock the bootloader if you plan to upgrade using PCC/SUS

I made it with this way. You must not downgrade, just change kernel with flashtool. Flash 4.0.3 kernel, root and install cwm, then flash back 4.0.4 kernel.
To flash kernel, you have to unlock your BL first.
BUT, in fact, you could flash a pre-rooted kernel after unlock BL, so you needn't flash a 4.0.3 kernel first

Unlock your bootloader to flash custom kernel. In this rooting method you flash sony stock kernel, so you don't need unlock your bootloader.
yes you don't have to unlock your bootloader to flash the "stock" kernel which is an "ftf" file... just flash your 4.0.4 normally, after flash the 4.0.3 kernel, when is done reboot and root it, and reflash the 4.0.4 kernel... voilà... and after you can install your CWM
