Didn't even know that, just assumed they were releasing it for just random devices.

thought legally they weren't required to release source period, even after an ota

isn't it required for open source/GNU licensing ?

Both HTC and Samsung both release the kernel source after the OTA, afaik. They just can't do it until then.

legally they are required or that would be violation the GPL then everyone and their mommas would go attack HTC lol

1) there are no Verizon devices on that list.
2) Some on the list are not ICS, but GB instead
3) ICS is not released for the Rezound yet (leak isn't an official release)
4) They are not going to release source for unreleased versions of OS regardless

Their obligated to release the kernel source as Joelz has said, it falls under the Gpl. RIL on the other hand......

1.70.605.0 ????

I have been using 1.70.605.0 ota rooted deodexed and busybox so that my thunderbolt doesnt reboot anymore. I know that we are waiting for source code so that the devs can write some new kernels for this update. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to overclock my thunderbolt why I wait.
Unfortunately not. Hopefully they'll release the source code soon.

Yes! Hopefully soon
I think froyo is pretty dead. There's been 2 solid releases of it and nobody has really touched it. We have 2 sense kernel devs and one builds his to follow the other's source tree. Not to mention none of them are current and functional with the latest gingerbread leak. The bulk of their work is now AOSP. Unless you're up to stripping Ziggy kernels from synergy or Chingy ROMs, you're kinda screwed. Sorry, but I just don't see a froyo source release as something any dev currently is going to embrace.
gingerbread
So are most people using gingerbread? Also, how stable is gingerbread compaired to froyo?

Aosp?

Apparently from what im gathering, is that it could be awhile before we see a fully functioning aosp rom. Is this true?

Pretty sure you need htc's source or its much more difficult. And htc won't release that until they release the ics update

i did read the article and if you were aware you would know that we don't have an Official Cm9 Rom as the one we do have is unofficial being made by kushdeck
first thing is we have to get kernel source.
Hopefully they get official cm support but I'm not holding my breath

Correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't all CM9 builds considered "beta"? So by them freezing the builds, that means they're close to having an official release of CM9...this is a good thing for us since once our kernel is released, it'll be easy to have a very stable port of CM9.

yea they are but some of the are being developed by people on CM team and we still don't have source code for our phone yet
I would post your link in decks thread and see if he will speak to it. He'd be able to answer better than anyone.
Edit: "... they won't be accepting any code other than bugfixes, *device support*,..."

Right now DEVS are limited to what they can customize when making a ROM. With source DEVS will have full control to develope better roms, Custom kernals, yada yada.

NO! Whenever we get an update from AT&T the scource will be released sometime after that. The scource usually gets released no more than two weeks later than the update.

Well Tmo is releasing their Galaxy Note in the 1st or 2nd week in July and since their version ships with ICS right out of the box we should have ICS source code by the end of July if not sooner.:fingers-crossed:

Samsung source releases?

This is my first Samsung phone, so I'm just wondering: what is Samsung's usual timeframe for releasing source after official builds drop?
About 2 weeks

I've seen it happen a few days after when I was on my epic
They released JB source less than a week after it was released.
Jb sources?
That would be Google my friend.
JB was introduced at google I/O on the 27th and released about 12 days later. I think the safe bet would be on the 23rd, pretty much two weeks like stated above.
AOSP source releases (from Google) are different than OEM source releases (from Samsung, HTC, etc), so you can't count on one to estimate the other.
