Samsung source releases? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

This is my first Samsung phone, so I'm just wondering: what is Samsung's usual timeframe for releasing source after official builds drop?

About 2 weeks

I've seen it happen a few days after when I was on my epic

They released JB source less than a week after it was released.

Jb sources?
That would be Google my friend.

JB was introduced at google I/O on the 27th and released about 12 days later. I think the safe bet would be on the 23rd, pretty much two weeks like stated above.

AOSP source releases (from Google) are different than OEM source releases (from Samsung, HTC, etc), so you can't count on one to estimate the other.

By when can we expect ICS ROMS to pop up??

So after the announcement and the release of the system dump today,by when can we expect full fledged and stable ICS ROMS to come out. Like say CM9
Properly working ROMS will only show up when Google releases the source code. If they do what they did with Honeycomb, and don't release it, then we will never get an AOSP ROM.
Anyone heard whether ICS will be open source or not?
from what ive read on engadget and Android and Me they will release the source code

honeycomb wasn't released due to the quality of the source code. i am 100% sure they won't use this excuse for ICS, so yes, there will be an AOSP code drop at some point, my guess is about 2-3 months.

Honeycomb source wasn't released because they didn't want people porting it to phones. I think big red will release the source for both in december

[DISCUSSION] Android 4.0 for LG Optimus One

Hi.
Today Android 4.0 was released by Google.
Some interesting features were added.
I'm wondering if our LG Optimus One will get unofficial update (eg. mik_os CyanogenMod) or official (very unlikely).
What do you think?
Mmmm i don't believe

Jean-Baptiste Queru Ver perfil Traducir al Español Más opciones 14 nov, 16:59 Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in. Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available. Here's how to get it:Follow the instructions at http://source.android.com/source/downloading.htmlCheck out the 'ics-release' branch:repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1 That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync. This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build target named "full_maguro" that you can use to build a system image for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come later. Unfortunately we still don't have our Gerrit code review servers back online. That remains our top priority though, and we hope to have them back soon. This release includes the full history of the Android source code tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich. So, we haven't created any tags that correspond to the Honeycomb releases (even though the changes are present in the history.)
JBQ, on behalf of the AOSP team. --Jean-Baptiste M. "JBQ" Queru Software Engineer, Android Open-Source Project, Google.

Hope our phone will have a taste of ICS before Christmas. More likely from Unofficial source.
Does our phone has enough system space for this ROM?
you mean internal memory?
Heee, we arent manufacturers - we build only a rom not a cloud, so no panic

ICS Source Released!

http://groups.google.com/group/android-building/browse_thread/thread/4f85d9242667a85f
Looks like we're getting an early Thanksgiving present.
Hopefully we'll get a slightly less Macgyvered MIUI sometime soon, with more ROMs to follow.

Please note that AOSP developers have asked that prospective downloaders wait for the greenlight to download ICS, as it hasn't entirely propogated through their system, and you may end up with a hodgepodge of files from ICS and Gingerbread if you download now.
Moving this to General as there is no development going on in this thread... just informing everyone about the release of 4.0.1
I'm very excited.... can't wait to sink my teeth into that sandwich!
I'm excited too but we are still going to have to wait for Samsung to release drivers....

Source code release means ROMs are basically done, and we should all prep for installing them by running backups.
Remember last year how the GB ROMs for the captivate started flowing 48 hours after GB source dropped.

I don't really get the sarcasm of ^^^ entirely, but yeah, does this mean we might be able to get ICS by the end of this year? I honestly thought that we had to wait for Samsung to code ICS for the international version first, of which devs would make ROMs out of
Atinm said it's likely a few months out

CM tends to be unable to go very far without the vendor-proprietary bits.
It's possible but EXTREMELY difficult. The CM team has said it'll probably be at least 4-5 months to integrate in general, that's not counting device-specific bringups.
The fastest route to ICS is likely going to be porting an I9100 release.

Thanks for the dose of reality. I hate getting all worked up anticipating something that wont be around (or at least stable) for several months. Now i can just put this in the back of my mind and be pleasantly surprised if it happens sooner.

Right now DEVS are limited to what they can customize when making a ROM. With source DEVS will have full control to develope better roms, Custom kernals, yada yada.

NO! Whenever we get an update from AT&T the scource will be released sometime after that. The scource usually gets released no more than two weeks later than the update.

Well Tmo is releasing their Galaxy Note in the 1st or 2nd week in July and since their version ships with ICS right out of the box we should have ICS source code by the end of July if not sooner.:fingers-crossed:

Kernel Source Code

Hey Guys, just wondering. I am sure a lot of people are anxious for this, but does anyone have any input on when HTC may release the Kernel Source Code? They legally have to, correct?
I really want a custom ICS AOSP Rom..
Pretty sure its already available via HTC dev.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
It is not available on htcdev.com yet, technically they have 90 days from release of the kernel to release the source.
Unless they are going to try to change their image now... don't expect the source to be up until the 90th day or later.
Yeah, just looked. I made an assumption before I bothered looking.
Its not available yet.
Sorry.

ughhh 90 days..... That would make me upset... anyone have any HTC source code stories based on other phones? Do they have a bad rep for taking a long time?

Could be here tomorrow, could be late past the 90 like the latest One X JB source.
The DNA source was posted the day the phone went out.
Nobody knows and anyone's guess would be just that. A guess.
We hope for sooner then 90 days, but there's nothing saying it will be before then by any means.
It's just like before, we unknowingly wait...

Yes they do. All the source they ever release for us is at the last possible moment.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The sooner they release it the sooner Devs make a AOSP JB ROM
I haven't run the Thunderbolt for 2 different phones now, but I'm still anxiously awaiting HTC releasing the kernel source. I like to flash roms on my old phones, just to see what life would be like if I were still on them.
4.1.1 on OG Droid
4.0.4 on Thunderbolt
4.2.1 on Galaxy Nexus
4.1.1 on Galaxy Note 2
Now if only I could shoehorn Android onto my old Samsung SCH-i760...
