Is there even anyone trying to root .21??
I really do not want to unlock.

Yes there are ppl TRYING to root but it will take some time. Unlock or be happy what you have

Shame to be in this boat again (no salvation from voodoo here), especially when this thing has such a nice stock ROM. Alas, with the avail of unlock versus effort needed to root, I expect we'll have to flash, flash, flash.

I just got mines 3 days ago. I know the pros and cons of rooting since I have my Evo rooted( see my signature ) . Should root my Prime or not ? I am I missing much ? The thing is, I know how time consuming can be. Or can I just root and dont flash roms , just to get superuser and Titanium back up and such ?

Rooting was actually very easy thanks to these guys...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
But as far as I know you can't install new ROM's just yet. But for running apps that require root such as TB, it works great.
Ok can you lot give me a few good reasons to root my transformer prime and install a new ROM. I've been looking at some of the ROMs and they all look kinda.... **** lol no offence. they just look to much like the prime unrooted but with a few changed to colour really :/
i rooted my SGS2 and installed the muiu ROM i think its called and thats great i llove it. it looks different and that's what i want
someone prove me wrong please
Do you want full control over your device? The ability to get rid of the asus crapware and run your own things? I too rooted my SGS2 after about a week of owning it and haven't regretted it.
With root you can install adblockers, backup tools (proper ones), overclocking
If you're technically minded and want to get the most out of your money then root, if you don't want to risk damaging your Aluminium piece of sexy then don't.

Rooting is definitely the way to go, doesnt affect your ability to get ota's and what not, if you want to unlock i say wait a lil bit longer to find out when or if ASUS is going to release nvflash to us, granted it definitely looks promising giving Gary Key's latest update.
That said if you want to unlock you can still get AOKP from jermaine just not from here, whether he is still supporting the rom is an entirely different question
hmmmmm ok i dont know i suppose i could just get root access and keep it as stock then. im going to have to find out how to root this now sigh lol research.. i'll look it in about 3 hours lol
I would highly suggest you root it since if any things happen you can just factory default the tablet and it'll be unrooted
So there's really nothing to loss rooting it
Just make sure after you root your device you backup the root so you don't loss it after you update the prime
lol you lost me after backing up my root. =/
i just tried to use sparkyroot but it doesnt seem to be working. im going to look at other methods.
dont think i can root it can i im currently on 9.4.2.21
Check the general thread, there is a way to downgrade and then root it without unlocking.

hello Im looking for a dev to make a ASUS Prime bootload unlocker that dont need to connect to ASUS servers . I have a prime and i cant unlock the bootloader Im not the only person having this problem so you would be helping more then me. Im will to donate 50$ to any one who can make this happend for me . Thanks in advance.
No one can make it because the bootloader is encrypted so only the apk from Asus will work.

Why is it you can't use the unlocking tool?

For some reason the ASUS unlock tool wont work for quite a few people it gives a "unknown error message could be related to connection issue" I contacted ASUS and they say they cant help me because my serial number has been unlocked and my warrenry it gone. But the funny thing is that my Prime was unlocked when I sent it to them last month and bricked . they fixed it for free and sent it back and it was not unlocked anymore and now i cant unlock it.
wow this is interesting because I had mine fixed from them too due to a bad battery or something, they re locked mine too. I am actually not trying to unlock my prime for now. No real reason other than with my prime unlocked all I did was wish I had not unlocked it.
I used Virtuos Rom which was the same as stock to me, and realized all the good stable roms were based off stock.
Now I am just waiting for a way to root this on .21 without having to downgrade to .15

what someone needs to do is unlock their prime while monitoring TCP/UDP packets. decrypt them and we can easily create a server that emulates connection to ASUS. Of course the meaning for this would ***NOT*** be to illegally unlock your device, but to unlock your device because the normal way is causing issues like the OP

Not sure why ur hesitant to downgrade. Worked like a charm on mine after putting stock build.prop back. Didn't loose a thing.

It's just HTTPS, which is trivial to do since we have full access to the client device. Not much going on except for a few GET/POSTS with serial numbers, board numbers and the like.
And no, even if you did record it there's nothing of note since the device unlocking is based on purely device-specific keys.
Of course, this was all known on release day since a few people looked inside the apk to find this out for you.

Why are you afraid of dg to .15 root method, it doesn't affect any settings. Afraid it will brick again as you were once unlocked?

Sure someone could. But it would take around 36000000000000000 years and that number has 15 zeros in it.

Not likely. We also legally can't reverse engineer the app to do the same things and unlock everything.
There is practically NO reason to totally unlock the bootloader. We can flash different kernels and software on there no problem. The only reason we'd want to mess with it is if we really want to change the bootloader itself, which is dangerous as it is.

The fix for this is to wait and try unlocking another time. There are a few glitches with unlocking, but it's nothing permanent.
Last month I sent my "unlocked" TFP in for service for bent power pins, the unit returned to me upgraded to .21 and "relocked"...no charge the next week. I promptly unlocked it again...no regrets.

I and many others would totally disagree. A partially unlocked boot-loader is far more dangerous than a fully unlocked boot-loader.

Define permanent. I have been trying for weeks. Getting the "an error has occurred"

No, he meant there's no reason for Asus to release a FULL unlock tool. Right now, the unlock tool is only like a half unlock; they still limit what you're allowed to do after you run it.
You have to run their unlock tool in order to change kernels and flash ROMs.

As i said in the title i would like to know if there's a way to install the official JB rom. Thanks
As I understand it, what needs to happen is someone (anyone who has the time and ingenuity) has to take apart the blobs from asus and maybe do a little deodexing as is tradition and combine the assortment into a flashable prerooted zip. It could arrive in three minutes, it could be a week. Depends on the devs.
If no one else steps up for this I will take a peek at the guides on monday and risk my skills on my own device.

Probably a stupid follow up question but...
I'm running a custom rom and I have TWRP installed...will I be able to install it as well? Secondly, will it keep my apps?
The current dlpkgfile floating around is only an incremental, thus not usable.
Can't se use anymore the ota update? I read about built prop .28 band i wanted to know more about it

As I understand, this seems to be the "General" area - the Q&A area is not that hard to miss, isn't it?
There is a general warning on TWRP thread to not flash custom Asus based ROMs with TWRP. Perhaps bootloader is changed and is incompatible with TWRP which uses a modded ICS bootloader.
So wait.
Using Asus blobs when released, unblobing them and working with that to make ROMs is the good way but must be done by good experts, as therisk is to brick the device.
So we just have to wait our loved devs to help us

And loving it just traded my ipad2 for a 2 month old tf201 with dock, i feel i got a good deal , anyways it was on ICS and i upraded it to JB it was never rooted and never unlocked, what are my options? Will something come out to be able to root on JB or am i stuck on playing with it stock? Thks
Oh and after reading some i guess im stuck witouth root but wanted to make sure.
Welcome and I'mpretty sure you can still root

Oh well i will search more then, cause i thought that stock jelly bean couldnt be rooted, if i can what software should i use? Thks
No root to date. Had you rooted it prior and usd some rootkeeper tools you might still have root now.
Im sure there will be something out in due time.
yeah thought so, thks
