[Q] Change mapping of hw keys - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all sorry if im posting in the wrong forum or if this is considered double posting. I didnt get any answers to my question in general hacking forum so im asking here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25332441#post25332441
I am looking for some way to change the mapping of the HW keys...

Not 100% as I don't have a blank rom in front of be but I'm sure its in system/usr/keylayouts and its one of this file keylayoutXX.kl I think...
Use notepad++ to open it

Find any ROM with it built in, then extract the file /system/framework/android.policy.jar
EVO 3D CDMA Android Development
can i download your rom ?
who needs the Q&A section?, freeza will answer questions in development
Thanks for the quick reply. Can i just copy it into the file system or do i have to assemble it into a rom with a kitchen?

Copy it to /system/framework, but you HAVE to set permissions correctly (rw,r,r) with root explorer or use adb and chmod 0644 /system/framework/android.policy.jar

Not sure if that is sarcasm or not, but it's more mature to answer the questions instead of badger the person about posting in the wrong forum.

Indeed! An answer then point in the proper direction is how it should be done.

Lost wifi until a reboot

I was happily playing with it tonight. It's been on since yesterday without a reboot.
I switched the screen off for about 2 hours while I went to watch a couple of programs. Turned it back on and wifi had gone. It would not reconnect.
I had previously (just before I turned the screen off) been adding and removing widgets. I had also put the speed up to 1.5Ghz using CPU Master Free. I had also managed to play a video for the first time using MX Video player.
A reboot fixed it and it's there now.
Anyone seen this?
Alan
Hey Alan, yeah WiFi problems are an issue. But can you try to limit questions to the Q&A section. This is really all about developement. I am working on a fix for it.

1. Turn off wifi using the wifi toggle in the notifications bar
2. from the homescreen, hit menu>settings>wireless&networks>wifiSettings
3. turn on wifi and tap n hold on your saved network, select "Forget" (may take a little bit to register your touch, don't worry it will)
4. turn off wifi using the wifi toggle in the notifications bar again.
5. turn wifi back on, select your network and enter the password.

Since your incapable of following rules why not just sell your tab and stay out
Thats a bit rude. Are you all like this over here?
Nope. Some people just don't know how to handle themselves when development slows down. Seems to happen in any slow sub forum. Don't add fuel to the fire and just brush it off.

Button lights - how to disable?

Hi, is there a way to permanently disable the backlight behind the menu and back button? Running CM7.
Thanks

Didn't use CM7, but I'd be surprised if it's not similar to CM9 (which I do use). Try settings/advanced/sensors/ & untick "Enable keys backlight" (if it exists in CM7). If not maybe read/ask the CM7 discussion thread ?
Thanks, but that setting does not exist in CM7.
I've searched for the CM7 thread but couldn't find it; would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Try here or you can probably find an answer by reading the dev thread as well (I wouldn't post a question like that in the dev thread tho).

Why is this in the development section? You should really read the rules.
So, what actually developers do when they release a new Rom? Do they write their roms using some programming language, from scratch or do they just make some changes/tweaks in the acutal rom settings?
I think 2nd one, only few do develop their own custom tools but rest using those tools only changes the hidden settings and add new features by providing apps.
So if i am right, then custom rom is nothing just a PlainOldRom with few tweaks. And mine question is too regarding the change in setting, so i dont think its a wrong place or my question or i am spamming the place.

That's why we have the Q&A section. Did I say anything about spamming? You can post in the development section if you're developing something, which I'm sure you're not.
Your thread has already been moved to the right place by our moderator.
