What kind of tweaks do you do now that you have root? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

was going to post this in general because its more of a general discussion but since technically its a question guess i should post it here...
Im kind of curious, now that we have root on .21 what sort of tweaks are you guys doing?
I know personally i wanted root for Android Linux, Root Explorer, and Titanium Backup. No browser mods, im using Dolphin. Im still on stock launcher (seems they sped it up a bit in .21 im not getting the lag i was getting before and cant be bothered to get anything different)
I know, very low key, im not that crazy. What sort of stuff do you guys need root for? Do you tweak the system at all? If so, let us know what you do and how you do it!
EDIT: Please if you post you did something that others may want to do either explain how you did it or post a link to the thread explaining how to do it so the rest of us can benifit as well!

at the moment i'm only using
-Gesture control
-Adfree
-sixaxis controller
-keyboard browser button re-mapping

Ahh i totally forgot about adfree! And what's this keyboard remapping i haven't heard of it

it mods the keyboards browser button so can be open universial browsers

Hello folks!
Brand new about-to-be owner of a TFP, long-time XDA user, with just a few questions...
Having the typical omg-wtf-are-these-new-acronyms when exploring a new xda forum, reading through wikis and stickies.
I won't need any technical help (just yet, knock-on-wood), I know how to read directions.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread like a new-owner-n00b, but...
Glad I found this post answering I guess what I wanted to know, which is "why root this at all?" From what reviews I've been reading, ASUS put very little bloat on this, and the technical issues are HW related (gps, wifi), nothing a rom can fix (if I've understood this right?), and adfree/TB/RootExplorer are no-brainers.
But otherwise, since ICS is now available, are the roms really worth the warr void?
Any new-guy advice is appreciated.

well there are always little tweeks custom roms has that stock users don't
but i think the only thing that would make me void my warrenty would be corner stone...
i don't find other things being worth voiding the warrenty for...
well at least for now

Well, I just won a Transformer Prime. With KB dock. And other schwag. For free.
I am about as excited as a 12 year old boy on x-mass.
http://androidcommunity.com/android-communitys-dark-meadow-tegra-3-game-pack-giveaway-20120426/
Time for me to start reading all the ROM descriptions!
(Cornerstone? going to google...)

This requires root and is totally worth it:

The only one I have right now is having the keyboard switch automatically between stock and Thumb Keyboard depending if it's docked or undocked. Used to have touch screen tune to use with the Jot Pro but it still didn't work very well so I pretty much gave up on it.

I posted in another thread how to setup touch screen tune to work properly with the Prime, you should check it out.
And how do you switch the keyboard automatically??? that would be totally awesome!

i use root for the following;
browser2ram - makes stock browser never give wait/close message.
quick reboot
adfree
vpnc as i could not get ics ipsec vpn working
ubuntu installer
ezoverclock - have to get a little more speed.
plan to try touch tune and sixaxis controller, but havent yet.

I use root for
Adfree
Terminal Emulator: Can take the place of ADB a good part of the time right on the device.
Quick Boot (Reboot): a nice little shortcut on my home screen to reboot
Samba Filesharing: Makes my drives show up wireless in Windows Explorer as a network drive. No more cables for file transfers!!!
Titanium Backup: we all know what that does.
Root Explorer: I think the name speaks for itself.
EZOverClock: A little speed boost is always a good thing.
This little mod just looks nice. Post #44 has the updated version for .21
I'm sure there are more but I don't have my Prime in front of me right now.

Nice little mod there. I'll play with it over the weekend and see what I can do. I would love to have a "root drive" in my network.
Thanks for the link.

I've got the same list as most, but for tablets I've grown to like AdAway over AdFree because of UI and supporting open source.

SlideIT 3.0 is out and it's super!

Just a head's-up that the new 3.0 version of SlideIt Keyboard for Android is out and it rocks!
I've not a single complaint about this version and I've always wished I could have the best features of Swype, etc. and have the features of SlideIT. I really do think it is finally better than Swype in every way possible.
This is not a spam. I don't work for them. I'm just so happy with the thing, I wanted to share.

Yes, and it works great. I've been using it also.
They have a promotion directly from their site for $3.99 which they say is a limited-time. I think it was well worth it.

Thanks for the heads up. In your excitement though you appear to have spelled the app's name wrong several times. It's SlideIT. I mention this in case it makes any difference for people searchwise.

Ooops! Yes, I did. I requested a mod to edit the title for search purposes. Thanks.
Anyway, I've really been pleased with the performance of this software.
For me, the best things over Swype are:
delete on error erases the entire word, not just one letter (unless you want to)
multiple language access with one click literally.
shortcuts
text selection is better/easier
etc.

Watched the entire vid. Don't see a Mic key anywhere. It needs to be on the first default keyboard.
Otherwise, some nice features. I'd also prefer to have access to the cursor positioning arrow key more easily. Looks like at least 3 buttons to get there.
Thanks for the reference though.
I ve been using it since yesterday and i am definitely going to prefer it over swype. Lots of shortcuts and dictionary seems to be better than swype..well at least for me.

i prefer swype 10times over this.
plus swype morphs are sexy
After a quick trial run I'm liking it better than Swype on my rooted Vibrant. I'll try to remember to come back here and post some thoughts after a couple days.
One of my main problems with Swype was always their word choice window, SlideIT does it much better by putting the suggestions right above the top row of keys where they are with the stock keyboard, so I love that.
After a quick trial on my rooted Vibrant, I'm kinda liking it better than Swype for a few reasons.
1. The word suggestion is not a random pop-up that hides everything. It's right above the keyboard which makes much more sense (personal preference).
2. It appears to be more formal and accurate, especially when inputting new words and keeping the caps, like ASCE.
3. It's overall layout is more to my liking (personal preference).
4. You don't have to hunt for it, make sure the ROM you flash has it, or worry about losing it in the future.
Good find, OP. Thank you.
Still loving it so far. The one drawback I've noticed is the only numeric mode had the numbers across the top of the keyboard, there's no keypad mode that I could see.

It doesn't replace Swype. It adds another keyboard. If you wish, you can delete Swype. I have.
I was a long-time fan of Swype, and the previous iterations of SlideIT were pretty marginal in comparison, but V3 has come a long way and I use it daily and much prefer it. It's much more accurate than Swype, generally, in my experience, and it does a far better job in multi-language accuracy and much faster at switching languages. It's Spanish dictionary is better, for example. The shortcuts/abbreviations are an invaluable feature to me.

I backed up then uninstalled by Titanium Backup, and used the installer without a hitch.
Running UnNamed 1.3.2 though, not sure if the newer versions may be the reason why its not working properly.
Cool. Must be the fingerprint with the new UnNamed.

If I say yes now its just a placebo effect in my head.
Have to do some testing with it for a few days and see if its noticeably different or the same.

so, installed perfectly using instructions from post #5. I don't really know what's the difference between uninstalling via Titanium vs. adb removing, but it worked with the Titanium method, and not with adb.

I've been using it for about two days now and with the exception of an beta-ish incident I had with it (it stopped working after my first reboot if the phone and I had to reinstall it), I can confidently say that this update makes Swype much, much better. Swype always used to piss me off within the day for the simplest of reasons, but with all the new gestures, dictionary options and (finally) contextual typing, it's hard to put this one down. And it should be mentioned that I'm a huge keyboard junkie, if that exists. I have pro versions for most of the keyboards on the market and constantly switch between them because they generally all disappoint me in one way or another.
The voice recognition is naturally better now that the company has been acquired by Nuance, but it isn't quite up to the accuracy of choice dictation on the iPhone 4s, for whatever reason. Is it better than what it used to be on Swype/Android? Hell yes. In addition, this can do languages other than English, something I found particularly amazing.
All in all, I like it.

Actually just had a look at the new apk... it's completely different so I don't think it'd be possible to just transfer it over from the old one.
I can try and do it manually... we'll see how it turns out.
Good luck, after the holidays i'm going to read up on theming.
I tried doing it myself to change the stock SMS but couldn't get it working ended up using goSMS lol.

I just did a proof of concept, just to see if it works... It's really simple actually!!!!
I did orange and blue (Denver Broncos colors) if you guys want it, just install it like normal.
Here is how to do it:
You take that .apk file thats in the OP, make a few copies of it just incase...
Then you get 7zip, open it up with 7zip... copy all the files in "assets/keyboard" to a new folder on your computer.
The files you need to edit are preceded by "display0_" since we have wvga screens.
The way I did it was open it up in photoshop (the images, that is) and edit the file and save it.
The files I editted were:
background
caps
capsbutton
funcbutton
numbutton
selbutton
textbutton
AFTER EDITTING!!
This is where it gets tricky...
You open that original .apk with the 7zip proggy and you transfer all those images back into it, in the proper folder.
Now you need to sign it using apkmanager or whatever you may want. Open it up in apkmanager, and sign it (using the batch signing folder thing option choice thing).
DONE!
Oops guess my message by xda app didn't go through.
The theme did work perfectly, good job!
Would It be too much to ask for a dark-themed swype like on ICScrewD or unNamed?
Then I can finally update swype

HUBS for Transformer Prime

Hey everyone! Hope you guys are enjoying your prime.
I've been very interested in HUBS for the android tablets and I've searched many places and some youtube tutorials but none of them seem to work 100%. I'm hoping someone can post a step by step tutorial on transformer prime ICS on how to make hubs for everyone who wants hubs on their prime.
Thanks!
P.S. I've looked around on the forums and I've found a couple hubs thread but none helped.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about as the threads I've looked at for hubs and the YouTube videos I've seen have been very informative. I set up a hubs layout the other week that I love. A few more tweaks and I'll be posting on the homescreens thread.
Perhaps you should be more specific as to what you've been having trouble with.
There is a topic, I think it's on the first page, with a awesome tutorial with lots of screenshots for ideias on original Transformer ''Themes and apps''

Hey how did you get those app folders to pop up in the middle of the screen like that when you clicked those side icons?
One way to do it is to use folder organizer or app organizer, then use an invisible icon which you would place behind the widget. So when you touch the widget, you're really touching the icon underneath which brings up the apps. Hope that helps. Still trying to get mine all set up, very time consuming.

For my personal use, I set it up with two things in mind.
It has to be functional. I'm an organization freak and so the different hubs would have to legitimately be useful and not just for design. For example, when I'm doing schoolwork The only things I see on my screen are applications I let myself use (and I further enforce this by combining Pomordroido and Tasker to kill any apps not seen on that screen).
Work well with two handed use. While it's kind of a moot point a majority of the time because my tablet is in the dock, when I do use it undocked I want to be able to access everything quickly. You'll notice that all of my buttons are on the left and right hand side of the screens, and all are clickable with either thumb, never having to lift my hand.
Apps I use to achieve this are ADW EX Launcher, Minimalistic Text, and Pure Calendar Widget.
I'll post a video of it sometime later; it's pretty slick. Funnily enough, I was already using the exact same transitions the guy in the video posted above used, so you already know how that looks.

Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
Absolutely amazing. . .
Between this and their stickit program, the prime has turned into a normal netbook. . .
The development of apps goes in the right direction know when we start to have more power in the hardware.
Have been using the "AirCalc" from the same dev and it works nice.. Haven't tried the browser yet,

With how well stick-it works for me, I didn't even hesitate to try out overskreen. True to form, this app works fantastically, looks like it's based off the ICS browser as it's fast, flash works without issue and it shares bookmarks with ICS browser+. Most importantly, you can change the user client, so it's all around versatile.
This is really looking to be a nearly perfect browser.
I like it alot! but needs to be fixed when i sign into anything it force closes. please fix.

I'm really liking this. has anyone had the app crash when you try to sign into xda from that browser? no matter if user agent default or desktop.

Signing into anything it crashes.
Hi. I just purchased the app! Only problem is that every time I try to open it, it force closes. Any ideas? I am on a rooted prime running Virtuous Rom .15v1. I have tried fixing permissions in rom manager as well as changing the apps permissions and moving it to my systems app folder.

Haha, Fixed it! I ha the stock ICS browser disabled because I didn't use it. Re-enabled it and it works like a beauty. Truly awesome; Keep up the fantastic work man.
Love the App but like others stated I crash when I try to sign in.

looks awesome cant wait to try it. thanks for posting this!
Pretty impressed - was reading and streaming in two separate windows. Like the way the bookmarks are opened but wish they were organized on import like the stock browser. Actually, the whole pop up bar with the controls is sweet.

Looks great, but what use does this have on a small 4.3" screen?
Purchased based on the recommendations . I liked the concept. Will take some time to get used to overlay window .
Just bought this ... i dont usually do impulse buying for apps, but from what i can see already. ITS AMAZING !
I cant believe this hasnt been thought of before.
I think a free trial of sorts would be a good idea .. saves any temptation for unauthorised use

Have you ever tried listening to youtube etc while browsing? Loads of other uses too IMO.
well worth a buy.
Look at that son of a gun.
My only issue here is that logging into Google causes a force close.
is there a test - version ?!
Tried to make a short video to show how it works.
Noticed quite quickly that I suck at this to make youtube videos, so in future I will think twice before I complain of videos with poor quality and content =)

Considering the app is is only 431k download with no download after startup, I think you would be fairly safe in the Google 15 minute return window.
My review, it is amazing! Only problem I have had is when I have 2 windows open, the 2nd window overlaps the keyboard when I try to type in a URL in the other window. If that gets fixed this is a win. For $1.49, I'm going to keep this and use it a lot!
thanks for posting this. I usually use stick it for youtube videos and it works great but this is much faster and has no lag. Wish it had a back, forword and url bar though.
You just made my day! This is so damn cool. Perfect for needing to reference something on the web while typing in another app.
The only thing that I see missing is the bookmarks only seems to show recent and all bookmarks sorted alphabetically? It needs to support the folders you use just like all the other browsers.
Already well worth $1.50 though hands down

Thanks for the info. I'm trying it now. Only thing that looks out of place not mentioned above is the screen rotation for videos. I know it will probably dealt with in the near future. So I'm not complaining. Just letting others know just in case they have the same thoughts about it. It is in portrait instead of landscape when I would like to go "full" screen in youtube and video players. Other than that it feels smoother overall than the EB builds lately. Awesome work Krylon360!
This is awesome! Thank you so much

It says hw accel works. does that mean opengl for games etc, but not the UI? I believe it means for just games etc but wanted to confirm
UI is accelerated. OpenGL is enabled. Working on other stuff as we speak. Hope to have flash working tonight then I can concentrate on completing the port of OMAP_ENHANCEMENT.

Not sure what you mean by this. Youtube operates how its supposed to for me...I'll look into it though.
Thanks for making this available. I read on rootz thread about adjusting the width of the navigation bar if the buttons bunch up in the corner. I have tried that adjustment, but still have that issue in most apps. Should I try more settings? Thanks, I am on the latest build.

I just added a couple of more buttons to the nav bar and it stopped squishing them.

I fixed it. I had to wipe the rotation data in recovery and all is well. Thanks Krylon360 for the solid build! My nook feels like it ate buttah and its all smooth inside now. lol.
Excellent work! I just flashed this on top of the latest Mirage rom. Took a couple restarts for everything to settle down (superuser didn't want to allow ROM Control at first), but things seem to be working as promised now.
On the homescreens though, space seems to be limited. The top and bottom of the homescreens are not accessible for widget placement, etc. I've tried a few different launchers but and looked through all the settings but no joy.
Would changing the DPI help?
late,
Coz
EDIT: odd....changing the horizontal and vertical margins in Trebuchet launcher had no effect, however, changing same for Apex resulted in more homescreen real estate.

Can we get this thread moved to the B&N Android Development section please.
late,
Coz
Messing with this now. LOL @ the boot animation Gonna have to 'splain that one to the wife.
I changed the bootanimation with the stock ics one. Other than that this rom is the best that I have checked so far. Also, I haven't checked thoroughly but it seems that the stutter that plagues the music players in CM7 and CM9 is gone!
Moving this to development..
thanks Divine.
I've been making a lot of core changes the past 2 days. Should have a new build up soon and I'll make this an official post.
Talk about your butter-smooth Nook! Rejoice, as the day has finally come! *toning down the drama*

2 questions:
1) Netflix working?
2) How do we get these fixes into CM9?

I really wouldn't consider 5 seconds of netflix playback working, but it's a start.
for those asking about HD? Not going to happen. The Nook doesn't support HD...hell CM7 didnt even support HD. So stop asking.
for Question #2...when ever I submit them.

Im going to give you the universal answer to any rom related question about features
SOON™
You have made me vary curious young grasshopper. I must try me some.
The biggest issue for me with CM9 has been the battery life. With CM7 Mirage I can go all week without charging with moderate use. CM9 would drain just sitting there usually requiring a recharge every day.
Tried this out on an SD install. Aside from random lockups (known issue, I see) it's pretty nice. It's definitely not as fast as CM7, but pretty usable. Nice work! :good:
