Finally got a good one! - HTC Rezound

After going through a total of 5 rezounds since December, I've got a phone I'm happy with. Runs cool, screen is good, buttons are relatively red, and it doesn't suck battery life. Completely stock, I'm at 35% left with 3 hours of on screen time in 4g with no wifi on, medium brightness. Gonna be keeping this one for a while.

5 times?? you should have gone fo a different device.

How do yu get that good of battery with that amount of on screen time on lte

thats what im wondering. maybe its just from a better production batch

I came from a tbolt, and have had a nexus, RAZR, charge, bionic, and revolution. This phone is my favorite.

This phone had 2.5 hours of talk time when I got it, but the sticker in the battery bay said it was refurbed on 4/26. Maybe it has better qc or something.

Tomorrow you will accidentally drop it in the toilet when reading the morning paper on the john.

I think the newer phones are better. Mine was perfect from the get go.

My manufacturer date is 10/21/2011 but my life counter is 283... Which is back in August. Err. My phone had no user time on it though when I got it. I don't understand...

Le ##778# then call is how I do it. Then click view, then display. There might be another way... This phone is perfect with the exception of a questionable loud speaker. It's not bad though. It's only a little different than the one I've compared it to.. no one in the store could tell the difference. Thats how minute it is.
I got it in February after sending my first one back that apparently had nothing wrong with it, the keys were a little lighter than this ones though. This one has really red keys. I didn't know my other ones were lighter though. This one also doesn't have bad light leakage either. U can barely see it on a black screen in the dark with the brightness on minimum.

Be happy that you got a good CLNR from Verizon. It's great that they supply us with fairly hassle free warranty exchanges. But at times their quality control can be pretty fail. I've gotten 4-5 devices that have LARGE scratches on them like 1-2 inches across the screen. Enjoy your device.

Wtf? For real? Unacceptable lol. Completely unacceptable.

My life counter is at 16. I'm assuming that is possibly number of days? My phone is older than that. Is it possible that the s-off process resets it?

I noticed that on the same firmware the rezound I'd had since december and the refurb I got in April had two radically different screens in them. My old one had a verrrry cool screen while the new one has a much warmer screen.
Much happier with the new unit.

Yeah it's happened on 2 of my T-bolts and a Droid Charge. The T-bolt was a nightmare for me. They even sent me like 2-3 that had screens popping out, and when you pressed down on the screen, it was like a black berry storm LOL.

Screen Discoloration

Just got my Inc4G, and there is a yellowish tint/hue at the top of the screen. Anyone else have this problem. Its pretty noticeable on a white background.
Not on my unit that I can tell. Guess just get replacement unit.

Nope, no issues here.

Soooo, how long did it take for this discoloration to go away? Because I just realized that I've got it too.
I only noticed it when I turned the brightness all the way up and played an episode of "Firefly" on Netflix to kill the battery. When the phone automatically turned off, the discoloration was very obvious against the whiteness of the splash screen. I usually keep the screen brightness fairly low to conserve battery, plus my wallpapers are rarely brightly colored. I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.
(And this is why I've never been an early adopter; I like for the bugs to be worked out before I buy something. Damn you, Verizon, for forcing me to an early upgrade.)
Took about 5 hours of on screen time
Sent from my Inc4G
Well, the iPhones/iPads had this problem. It's simply the adhesive that bonds the display to the glass. It likely hasn't fully cured and using the phone is enough to heat it up and have it fully cure

Had this issue as well... it hadn't gone away by today so I returned mine and got a new one.
The discoloration is back now. I've had the phone in my possession for just over 24 hours but I don't think the screen on time has exceeded five hours. If it doesn't permanently go away in the next weeek I suppose I'll try my first phone exchange at Best Buy.

First post here, hello all. Got my phone on friday last week and noticed a yellow spot (mine was in the lower right, basically on top of the 4th icon in the default dock)
I believe this is spot due to heat. It will show up when I am messing with the phone a lot, but if I set it down or power it off it will go away. I am not surprised to see others are having the same issue, but I was a little surprised to see that the spots were in different locations. I figured there was an especially hot component house behind my spot.
Interesting...
I have two of these phones now with no issues. Must be some bad batches out there... *sigh* c'mon HTC, quality control.

I also cannot report having this issue. However, for the people who do have the issue, considering how cool this phone runs, I'm not sure general use would be enough to heat it up to a temperature that would affect the adhesive if that's the problem. Maybe leave the phone on the charger at max brightness on a white screen for a while?

The employees at Best Buy also thought it's due to heat. I honestly think it's just a few bad batches. I exchanged my phone at the same Best Buy where I originally purchased the phone, and second phone has the same discoloration in the same exact spot as the first phone. I plan on exchanging my phone one last time before the 30 day exchange period is up and hopefully the batch in stock at that time won't have this issue.

On two occasions I tried watching a few shows on Netflix on full brightness for at least an hour. After the hour was up, the discoloration was definitely more visible; there was no lessening of the spots. Perhaps I didn't run it long enough.

I think we should start taking pictures and circling the spots. I will post mine later tonight. If it is indeed some screen defect or adhesive problem, that could explain why it was happening in different spots (if it is) If the heat spots are clustered in one area, maybe there is some specific component producing heat in that area that is discoloring it locally.

[Q] Sprint Warranty Phones

I have the TEP from Sprint. My screen is messed up. Over the past couple weeks it's sometimes unresponsive, sometimes doing phantom button presses. I can literally turn the screen on sometimes and watch it as it moves the notification bar down, or attempts to swap screens. It even does random button presses in TWRP or CWM recoveries.
I'm going to be taking it in, my question is.. does anybody know whether or not they are giving refurb'd Evo3D for warranty claims? Or is it another phone completely? When i had my original Evo, i had warranty work done and they gave me the 3D because they didn't have anymore Evo's left. Has anybody done warranty work lately?
Thanks.

Yeah they've got Refurbs out the ass right now, I literally begged on the phone for a evo 4g lte because I read a few places that people got lucky, I even hung up and called again many times lol, Evantually the lady explained that they ran out of 3vo's for a while so they had to give better phones.
And they will replace it as long as the screen isn't shattered, Digitizer is their problem (Although the digitizer and screen are the same thing... Their kinda stupid...) I'm on my 3rd 3vo, And I'm literally about to go to a sprint store in a half hour to see about another replacement, I dropped my phone and destroyed the mother board, It don't do ****. lol, At all. nothing. Asurion deals with the insurance, Which you'll be charged $100 for.
Sprint deals with warranty, And most likely they'll check out your phone, and put in a new order and have you come back 3 to 5 days or so later to switch out for the new phone, they "Might" have it on hand, But i've never had this, And the 3vo is getting pretty old so they'll almost definitely have to order one.
And the phone will come without an SD or Battery, So make sure you charge up your battery.
Edit: Thanks button?? No?? lol.

Mine's the same. Depending on when your contracts up and whether or not you're able to deal with it. (Mine's worst when I'm outside in the cold, but generally passable indoors with occasional lock ups, button presses, etc). You may just want to sit tight and see what is officially announced for a spring release.

Well.. I took it to the sprint store because it became almost unusable. I could turn the screen on and have about 7 seconds until it froze or started randomly opening, moving stuff around. Flashed back to stock (from CM 10.1, didn't want them to know i voided all warranties) and took it in. They saw i had the TEP and said to give them a half hour, and they would have it fixed. They replaced the screen for me in minutes. Now everything is good as new.
I've never had that good of customer service with Sprint.

Screens are super dooper easy to replace for next time, and pretty damn cheap too.
Note: They only last a little while in most cases lol, So don't be too excited.
My sprint store has lots of evo 3d parts than evo phones..
Took it yesterday & got a new battery, housing, screen , & motherboard.
Feels bran new.

[Q] Out of the Box problems with my One

Greetings to all the XDA community. I felt like i had a bunch of different problems with my new HTC One, that encompassed a few different threads, so i was wondering if Im the only one with such problems. If any of you had experienced one or all of these problems please let me know what you did to fix them. I appreciate your input, first time HTC owner here
1. Battery life very very subpar. Charged it for 4hours out of the box before using the first time, battery fell from 100 to 20 in 5 hrs of regular use.
2. Battery charge time is terrible. Takes 3 hours to go from 30% to 95%.
3 Wifi scan range is horrible. My Note 2 picked up 2 bars of wifi in my room, while the One cant even connect. Sitting 10ft from the Router, bars keep fluctuating from 4(max) to 1, sticking to 2 bars mostly. I dont want to burn through my cellular data allowance atleast at home.
4 Camera resolution in very average, I know its only 4 "ultrapixel", but it could be muh sharper even with that.
5 and ofcourse, the legendary capacitive buttons, especially the Back button. Unresponsive half the time, responsive after 3 soft touched (and one frustrated one). I dont mind them lighting off at times, but the unresponsiveness is unacceptable.
The build is gorgeous, no problems anywhere. The speakers are just awesome. The phone feels amazing in hand. But if i cant get wifi in my own house, and the buttons keep being so stubborn, i cant spend 2 days with that, let alone 2 years. Am i being too picky here?I hope so, cuz i REALLY love this phone for its PROs.
Please let me know what you guys think!! Thanks!!
My only problem is that battery seems to not last long and the gap on top. I wonder if I can exchange it?

i didn't notice battery life issues (esp coming over from my nexus s) but I probably have less background stuff running than most-- I actively shut down facebook syncs, google talk, etc.
no issues with wifi antenna whatsoever.
the capacitive responsiveness issue is documented and supposedly fixed in one of the upcoming OTAs.
Sounds like you may have a defective device. I'd exchange it.

They advertised the phone as GAPLESS so if theres a gap and you think is bothering you then you free to return it ( if you still on you 15 days )
Half of the top of mine is gapped from between the head jack and the power button all on the left side id guess roughly 1/64th of an inch..maybe less it's hardly a concern that's how miniscule or a problem it is to me.
As long as it doesn't display screen issues and get dirt beneath I'm fine with it.
It's not falling apart and I use an otterbox anyhow.
It would be far more realistic to let the phone grow old.... maybe drop it ...crack something let wear take place....so it looks legit... have a good reason to get an exchange/assurion claim.

I don't know about T-Mobile, but I know many international customers have gotten warranty exchanges because of gaps. If the gap is big enough that it bothers you, ask for an exchange. It is definitely ridiculous on some units I've seen.
About charge times, it charges normally up to about 90% then slows down much more than most phones. I think it's very well-implemented given the totally non-repairable nature of the phone. I just finished charging an hour ago, and it charged from about 30% to 90% in under 2 hours, then spent another hour going from 90% to 100%. It's much better to charge slowly at the high end and preserve the health of the battery. Also most people probably know this, but charging over USB from a computer is much, much slower than using a wall charger (and wall chargers vary in power output as well).
Can I just go in a T-Mobile store and ask for an exchange for the small gap? & they'll replace it?

I am having the exact same problem as you (#5 above) with the capacitive buttons. The Back button doesn't respond half the time. It is really frustrating. The Home button too respond especially when double tapping to bring up the recent apps list it doesn't respond like half the time. I thought maybe it was a software issue. I guess it's a defective device then?
I have read that the buttons can be fixed through a software update by htc, though I have no idea when tmobile might push it out. For people in Europe with the same problem, they claim the OTA fixed it.
If that's the only problem you have, it may be with waiting for the ota or a custom rom with fixes.

I got mine online, so im not sure of in store availability.
Thanks to each and everyone for your valuable advice and experiences. After countless hours of online research and tech support, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people are having a at least one issue out of the box with their phone. HTC seems to have rushed this phone into the market in an effort to beat the S4 in timing, but in doing so they have caused quite a few quality control issues with undoubtedly the best smartphone at this time.
I bought a S4 to compare side by side before I made my decision, and after days of deliberation it seems that the One is superior to the S4 only in the flawless design and excellent speakers. This is purely my opinion, but after putting them side by side in my room, and seeing full wifi bars on my s4 and the one struggling to get just one, I must with heavy heart return my One. I came from a note 2, looking for a 1080p display and connectivity for my media consumption, and HTC could only provide one (pun unintended).
With all of you struggling with issues with your phones, good luck. I guess I'm staying samsung for now.
My older HTC One X also has poor wifi in my house. My iPad picks up signal great in my house but the minute I start walking away from my wifi router the HTC One X drops connection. Seems like wifi reception is not their strong point in all their smartphones.

Trying to get a replacement DNA

I have 3 issues with my current phone.
1- It has a bright spot on the screen. I'm not sure if it is a bright pixel or what but it only glares when I am on a white screen and it is about the size of a period.
2- My speakerphone sounds blown... it crackles every time i use it.
3- My phone takes 8+ hours to charge no matter what charger I am using. OEM or not.
Now. Do you feel any of those issues would get a replacement? I do not have insurance but my phone is still under warranty since I got mine in February.
Try a program called dead pixel test(market) and then tell Verizon your results. I always run my refurb phones through a battery of tests.
To your last? Are you rooted? If so change kernels and or calibrate your battery and steal your kids chargers and test.good luck
PS I gave you a free txs

Not rooted.
The dead pixel test puts that black menu bar at the bottom of the screen.... and that is where the issue is.

Now. Do you feel any of those issues would get a replacement? I do not have insurance but my phone is still under warranty since I got mine in February.

Sound like excellent reasons to get a replacement.
Where did you get it?

Went ahead and took it into Verizon and they plugged it in to see what it did but that didn't matter as soon as the chick saw the spot on the screen she ordered my replacement.
A lot easier than I expected and whole lot easier than things were with T-mobile.

I've always had good experiences with Verizon like that. Normally the most I've seen the do is check for water damage. They're usually very understanding and don't mind helping out if they can. That's why I love big red!
So I have a similar screen issue, but mine is a blue haze in the middle of the screen. Also been having the SIM card error problem. I called VZW today and they're sending me one of the certified like new devices. However, they did mention if there was any damage to the phone I would be charged $299. I mentioned that the plastic cover over the charging port had broken off like day 2 I had the phone. She said she's not sure if that would or would not be considered enough damage to charge the fee. Has anyone sent it back with the broken cover and had any issues being charged?
These are the terms for a certified like new device as written up by Droid-Life.

Verizon has been good about replacements. Sadly I am on my third. First one had a broken headphone jack, replacement had a stuck pixel, and now I'm hoping for no more problems haha.

Yea I'll say we get screwed on the bill but every time I've had an issue like that they've been good about it.

[Q] Help! black screen with orange charge LED. can't bring screen back on

So today while i was listening to music via AmazonMP3 in my car through the radio, it was also plugged into the charger. the phone went idle and turned the screen off, nothing abnormal here, however, this time when i went to turn the screen back on it would not. music was still playing and the orange charge light was on.
This happened twice today. the first time i was able to hold down the power button and force it to reboot. the second time it won't even do that. i hold down the power or hold down power+vol down/up and nothing happens. not even the buttons flashing. i've gone to the point of holding them down for 2 mins just to see if long term holding may somehow do it.
when i got home i plugged it into the computer to see if the computer would recognize the phone and to see if i could force reboot it using ADB. the computer did not see it and i tried ADB devices and it did not see it either. i'm basically at a loss at this point and any ideas would be welcome
little about the phone
running Viper 2.0.3 with S-off
well the LED just turned of... so i went and plugged it in to see if it would come back on and boot up.
neither the charging light or the phone came on....do i now just have a paper weight?

Have heard a couple people say to leave it on charge, whether the charge light comes on or not, for 24 hours. Then try to reboot.
Hope you get it figured out. Good luck. :fingers-crossed:

i'll give it a try... hopefully that'll work.... if not, guess i'll be going to Big Red on wednesday to see if i can use my Wife's upgrade early (it's due in march) since she's happy with her phone (dumb/flip phone) and isn't interested in using it

ok after letting it sit off the charger for a couple hours last night i plugged it in to start t he 24 hour charge and the charge light started flashing like it would normally to let you know of low battery. after about a minute this didn't change but i took the chance and attempted to turn it on. which it did come back on at this point. however, it didn't have enough charge to stay on since the charger is not a fast charger and wasn't giving more then it used. it shut back off. i unplugged and replugged and this time it flashed and then turned solid. turned the phone back on and it stayed on without issue.
this morning it was still coming back up. though i have had one instance where it didn't today but i was able to force it off by holding the power button.
i went ahead a few minutes ago and updated to viper 2.5 and i'm hoping that the reload will correct the issue... guess we'll find out
Thanks for the help!
though now i'm getting errors in Viper tweaks... to the Viper forum!!

well at this point i'm saying it's a hardware issue. after i updated to 2.5 (and got the viper tweaks error resolved) i'm still having this issue. even had it this morning without it going screen off and i was looking at it this time when it happened. what it did was the screen just looked like it currupted the image with vertical lines and everything went grey as it was fading out. and then the charge light stayed on again. at least this time i was able to force it off again and turn it back on.. but yeah. i'm going with hardware issues. i'll probably go to Verizon tomorrow or this weekend and ask if i can take my wifes upgrade 1.5 months early. it'll be nice if they let me.. though now i need to figure out what i'd want to get..choices...
Too bad about your DNA. Personally I kinda like the One Max. Nice big screen and expandable memory.

expandable memory is always nice!
though i'm also looking at the LG G2. my dad has one of those and it's been great. the 3000 battery is nice, as is the 13 MP camera...i'll just have to compare and see which one i like better over all. price may play a part as well since right now the G2 is $50 while the One Max is $300....
just looking at them compared though. the One Max doesn't have as good a processor as the G2. 1.7 GHz vs 2.26 Ghz (both quad). i suppose a take the good with that bad would come on either phone since the G2 doesn't have expandable storage.
also... i'm not sure i'd want a phone that size. 5.5 would probably be the largest i'd want. i'll hold it when i go to the store. maybe i'll find it more comfortable then i think...

i've never actually had a samsung phone, either as a dumb phone or a smartphone. i've had a OG Droid, Xperia play and the DNA and that's it so far. one of my co-workers is trying to convince me to go with the note 3 since that's what he has. but i don't really want a phone/tablet. it wouldn't fit in my phone pocket that's built into my pants
i've rooted and unlocked samsung S2 before. but that's about it....

I had a Samsung phone for 2 years and hated it, it constantly froze and I had to do a battery pull daily. There was also little development for it though u doubt you will have that problem if you get the note 3. After owning that phone for 2 years and then picking up the DNA I have become an HTC fan. I had a Samsung continuum. Jut my little rant about Samsung.
