In terms of browser speeds, time to open applications, google maps rendering speeds etc...is the Touchpad overclocked to 1.7 with CM9 running faster or not? thanks

I'll venture a guess here, and say no.
I've got a TP running GB, not overclocked. But GB and ICS are both still buggy as hell, which DQ's the TP in such a test.
If you're doing a speed test and you get FC's and reboots, IMO that should count for something.
I'm not trying to slam dev's here. I love the CM guys and everyone who's working so hard to give me Android goodness on the HPTP.
But seriously, do you think you could compare a $100 tablet running 3rd party open source ROMs and software to the leading market standard?!

You dont have ICS so you dont know how smooth ICS actually is in TP.

Well, first reply not withstanding, I'm running Xrons 2.9.1 at 1.782GHz and it's as smooth as silk with no FCs, reboots or any other faults.
I had the opportunity of using an iPad and all I can tell you is that the iPad owner was looking a little sick when he tried mine!
I wouldn't swop what I have and when a stable fully working CM9 hits the streets it will only get better.
I've tested them side by side and while browsing Opera Mobile under XRON 2.9 @ 192mhz/1.5ghz (up threshhold @ 40%) the TP was about 80% as fast as the iPad 2 at general responsiveness (zooming, scrolling through pages on heavy sites), and a tie at loading pages - some loaded faster on the TP and vice versa.
I also tried the stock XRON browser, but it was too choppy and there was really no comparison.
Google Maps is much faster on the iPad 2 with less jumpiness and is overall just smoother.
Strangely, Google Earth feels much more fluid on the Touchpad with smoother zooming/panning and faster loading.
General responsiveness probably goes to the iPad 2, the home screen is just smoother and more responsive compared to every launcher I tried (VTL, ADW, SPB Shell 3D, Launcher Pro and a few others), and apps tend to open faster.
Netflix is much better on the iPad 2, video is sharper with less compression and scrolling is much smoother.. Not sure if it is playing HD but there is a noticeable difference for sure.
Things have changed quite a bit on ICS and it could be closer now.

It's an Alpha build. If it were in Beta, or out of Beta, I'd consider it. But there are certain implications associated with the Alpha stages of software builds.
iPad 2's GPU outright slays all android devices, so as far as UI you're not going to find a device that even comes close that's out right now, including the Transformer Prime /:
I've heard good things about the Nexus Tablet though.....
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
While I love my HP TouchPad I have to tell you that nothing can touch the current A5 CPU/GPU the iPad 2 uses. It's amazing to say the least. But the TouchPad is good for lots of other things
I've compared my TP (both WebOS and Alpha 3 CM7) to my cousin's iPad 2 and the browsing experience is much better on the iPad. But like sean said, if ICS were in beta or even out then it would be a close battle. I'm running an ICS beta on my Samsung Fascinate and it's the most beautiful rom I've ever played with. Hopefully the TP gets to that same level.
Its hard to compare since they are running 2 completely different operating systems and browsers. Chances are the iPad2 will be faster only because its running a stable OS (I'm not saying Android is unstable, just that its not OEM).
But with the Touchpad you get decent hardware for a lot cheaper and you can run CM.
I'm not really sure where comments like 'buggy as hell' are coming from or what kind of experience other people are having, or apparently not having with some people not having tried and based on assupmtion, but the CM9 runs really smooth for me. The only area where it doesn't is Flash based video, which is a known issue due to the current lack of hardware acceleration.
Alpha is just a word. Some developers are very cautious and prefer to keep things in alpha and beta stages as long as possible to ensure everything is working as it should while others will just push anything out the door.
CM9 seems to run faster on the whole and is a much more responsive experience for me than CM7. I really haven't had any major issues either.
Honestly, even though it's an 'alpha' I've had no problems. On the other hand, I've definitely had the experience of dealing with lots of problems for final release products that I've paid for.

I find the ICS browser on the Touchpad to be great. Its the first all around great browser I've used in Android in terms of scrolling experience, UI, etc.

I more or less agree.
I've had few major problems with CM9a0.5. I'd say it is at least as stable as CM7, and WiFi has actually been more stable for me compared to XRON/CM7 (although still not perfect). And of course the "tablet" experience of ICS is worlds ahead of GB.
The biggest downside to CM9 is the lack of video acceleration therefore lack of Netflix/Youtube HD and high bitrate 720p/1080p videos.

Probably not. Given the level of effort required for installation, maintenance, and learning the more technical side of things, she'd most likely stick with the iPad.
I dont know your work friend, but that's my guess.
People naturally think that because you managed to get the TP up and running with ICS, that it was worthless getting an iPad. But those people most likely are the same one's that don't have the knowledge to really enjoy the TP, not to mention put the effort into keeping it that way. And at the current state (not even to Alpha 1), it's no comparison.
i payed less than $100 for my touchpad............it now has ICS, it's as fast as any tablet on the market, and has great developmental support. why the hell would i want to pay $500 for another tablet? it's not just ipad, i had tossed around the idea of getting a transformer prime for a while and probably would have one if they weren't so hard to get. then ics hit the touchpad and well the rest is history. i'm happy now. but that's just me and my "$100 fast as hell ICS tablet" talkin.
The thing most people don't understand is if it's this close to an ipad WITHOUT hardware acceleration. It'll straight blow an ipad 2 out of the water when we get it. ICS is more like iOS in that it has hardware accelerated ui. Android never offered that before, which is why we have compensated with faster and more powerful processors up until this point.

Good Morning, Evening or Afternoon to you all,
I just wanted to say that I'm a Long time user of WebOS and have 2 Touchpads (32, 16) Currently I have loaded the 3-3-12 Nightly build onto my 32 gb touchpad and will be loading it on the 16 in the near future.
I just wanted to thank everyone that has worked on this to make it possible. I have enjoyed alot od the features that CM9 has offered so far. I haven't gotten to the other builds. In fact i just learned what a kang is/means. So Far I haven't seen the Wifi issue some people have been having. If any of the people having issues are using a Pace or 2wire modem let me know as I can help you.

How functional is the Touchpad with CM9? I'm considering getting one, but I need to be sure that it is worth of daily driver status. I need a tablet for work and I can't handle a ton of bugs or stability issues.

Functionality is wonderful for me and my wife. She has MS and this is her primary source of communication. She uses it to speak on yahoo and MSN. Plays games and takes notes. She adds things to the family calendar. So in my opinion its worth what I paid for it. 99 for her 16 and 149 for my 32. I would easily pay 200ish for hers if I had tp
I do not have any wifi issues with my touch pad..can't speak for others but I take this thing on the road with me and with alpha 2 with stock kernal, I have connected to a lot of different kinds of routers and have had no dropped signal. I would recommend this tab for anyone with cm9 alpha 2.

It's probably not worth it to even get a TouchPad now. You might as well hold out until the new crop of tablets hit. Google's going to have a 7 inch Tegra 3 tablet for $200, which easily undercuts the lowest price of a NIB TouchPad found on eBay.
I've been using the Touchpad with CM9 Alpha 2 for a couple weeks now and it is fantastic. Still some kinks/lag to work out but it is an Alpha after all. Netflix, Youtube, Crackle etc. all work great. Browser seems to be much faster than CM7 was on the Touchpad. I use CM9 almost exclusively now instead of WebOS and don't have any complaints.
The TP runs awesome with classic nerd and cyanogen alpha 2. I presently am running cm 9 alpha 2 with Rohan's tweaks and the tablet flies. Have Swype kicking and it works flawlessly, definitely my daily driver.

I've been using CM9 as my daily driver since the first alpha. It runs great. The alpha 2 is basically complete for my needs. The only thing missing is the camera, but that's not really an issue to me.
I was going to get a Kindle Fire the day they released, but opted for the TouchPad primarily for the bigger screen. After using others' 7" tablets I'm glad I did. Those 3" make a world of difference to me. In the world of 4"+ phones I don't see the use for a 7" tablet. I felt it was too small for web browsing. I thought that maybe apple would have dropped the iPad to $299 today. Had that been the case I would have said to spend the extra $100 for that, but its not worth $200 more than the TouchPad.

First thing to attempt is make sure you are using WEP instead of WPA-PSK(testing purposes only). Another test is to turn off the encryption and see if that helps. I know that some devices (Mac's mostly) do not like some Keys (ones that start with 0) from this device. If the encryption is off you you notice a remarkable improvement then what you need to do is make a customer key or change it. Also you can Boost the power and change the chanel to see if this helps

The Channel change only might not work for everyone. This is why i gave a longer set of instructions to see if we can pin point it better. If it's just a channel issue maybe we can attempt that on other devices and see if it helps.
Hi guys,
I went to Best Buy yesterday and got to try your Asus Prime. Wow! I was impress by the speed and the Ics. I was gonna buy it but they freshed out.
However, I did some reading on your Q&A add I see that the little ***** is giving you some trouble. Is it that bad, is it happening to everybody? I currently own a gtb 7510. Is not bad. I have a custom rom Task14 and oc'd to 1.4 with petshoots kernel. Still, the Asus is pretty impressive with its speed is very responsive and the display is beautifull.
Gtap is ok but its still not @ par with the ipad2. I think the asus prime (the one I tried) does size up to the ipad3.
So, is everyone here having issues with the ATP?
Thank you.
Edit- I'm asking all this because I'm still on time to return my gtab.

welll for me my Asus TF Prime been good do far. Had it for about 3 weeks.
I'm in the UK btw.
Everything is working and running smoothly on this tablet. No crashes whatsoever.
I guess it depends are lucky you are. For me I am lucky i have a 100% perfect Tablet.
But then every product I have brought by far has been good to me apart from the dell streak 5 which lasting for 2 monthes the screen suddenly broke!
I say go ahead buy this tablet, You won't regret it. Did I mention that this tablet looks sexy too!
It does look sexy!
It sure runs everything you throw at it.
I got 1080p .mkv files to play which I couldn't on my first Transformer.
It runs my playstation games great too (emu)
Wireless gamepad (BT) on the go. I am using the ps3 pad.
I do use onlive on my tablet and it is amazing.
Free splashscreen software which I stream my pc desktop to my Prime at times. Can play CS:S on it lol
web surfing is fine by far. No hipcups.
Incredible super IPS+. Makes this look comparable to the new ipad with the brightness full & IPS+
I would use my Prime to type on here but I am currently using it to watch the Engadget podcast lol
Using the keyboard dock is nice. typing won't be as good as what you get on your keyboard but will pass. the batt is amazing. Surfing the net, checking my email, movie watching (1-2) will last me a whole day. when I am playing games and watching movies (2-3), listening to music it will last about 5-6 hours for me. ALL THESE NOT DOCKING THE TABLET INTO THE KEYBOARD DOCK.

I got mine 1 week ago in Germany, got a C20 serial, and it works perfectly, the GPS is not the best one i have used but does works. Locks relative fast to 10 sat's with no wifi.
Wifi is fast, i get all my 32mb internet speed while testing with Speedtest.net, Bluetooth works wonders.
While using BT a2dp and wifi my internet does get slow but the connection never drops.
Screen quality is amazing and using EZOverclock increased the Performance speed to 1.6ghz making video and gaming experience really good.
I'm very happy with my transformer, I'd buy it again without even thinking.
Edit: video and gaming was perfect even before OC, i just wanted the extra power ^^
It has been a great experience for me. I have no problems with my device. It has nice feel about it and your hands will seldom get tired of holding it with extended use. The battery just keeps going and going.
Mine has also been great and is an early one. Everything works fine and even got gps locks the one time I tested it, haven't needed it since so it has been off for months. Wifi is fine on it so have absolutely no complaints, I really enjoy it.
get it! lol. had my prime since 12/22 and hasn't let me down yet. been using it nonstop. I came fro IOS/Ipad to the prime. The difference in speed, power, and everything is night n day better than my Ipad. if you get one now, chances very slim to get one with issues some experienced. its more than worth it. I'm still amazed at how well mines work and how thin and light this tablet is. plus the battery lasts long as a mofo.
Get it, its a great device I'm really pleased with mine. No issues with it although this is number 3. First 2 had bright spots on the screen when using a white background so make sure u check the screen very closely right away

I'm really pleased with my Prime. I do get the occasional browser stutter but, apart from that, performance has been fine. I would say that it seemed more reliable once I took Chrome off and re-installed Flash (but this may just be coincidence!). GPS performance is the same as for other people i.e. iffy at best!
Only complaints from me are stock browser stutter, WiFi performance drops off considerably if I use my PS3 controller via BT at the same time, and screen glare (this thing is shiny)!
So I just use another browser besides stock, and use the controller with games that don't need WiFi, or if they do, I switch to my Logitech usb controller.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks, and just had a random reboot last night. I'm completely fine with that, my iPad 2 had a few random reboots in it's time as well.
I installed an anti-glare screen, which works fine.
The keyboard dock is great..!
The only issues I've had with my tablet were caused from unstable custom ROMs like CM9 KANG and AOKP Milestone 4. I'm currently running stock and haven't had any issues. I'll be waiting until an official build of AOKP or CM9 comes to the Prime before switching back away from stock.

The issues with the Prime are fairly overblown.
Most people don't have a single complaint with regards to their Prime. The vast majority of people who come to XDA looking to talk about the Prime are people who are having some kind of issue they want to resolve and aren't really representative of the overall community or Prime owners.
My experience is that WiFi is just fine. Nearly as good as my Windows laptop and better than my Galaxy S2 phone. It even works well when I am streaming music to a set of Bluetooth headphones.
I have a very slight light bleed in one corner that is only noticeable on the boot screen. However compared to my Dell laptop the light bleed would probably be considered non-existent. Viewing angles, color, saturation etc are all very good.
GPS doesn't work for Navigation which is why Asus removed it from the feature list, however it works perfectly fine for location-based services like Search.
In general there is nothing to complain about. The Prime is very good product and it has basically replaced my laptop as my go-to device for web browsing, email and light office work. If you combine it with the keyboard dock it is an even more useful device and battery life is stellar when compared to any similar laptop/tablet.
I honestly believe that the Prime is one of the best and most useful tablet devices available right now. The only reason that I might want to wait on purchasing it is to see what the TF Infinity will be like. The TF Infinity should be nearly identical to the Prime, but will have a better screen and possible better GPS. It will also cost $100 more.

You have to remember that the people complaining are a small fraction of the total userbase.
The problem with internet ratings is that when you have a problem, you'll be dam sure to look it up and post in the appropriate forum, blog, website.. whatever.
If you have no issue, why would you bother to look for the websites?
My prime is awesome, no issues whatsoever.
I'm only here because I happen to develop some minor stuff for another device on Android and now own a prime. but I'm the small percentage saying this thing rocks.

Never fix your buy-decision on the xda threads of the device. I was happy with the last 3-4 phones I've had, but when I check the xda forums for them it seems like I'm the only one who was happy at all
This game came out for iOS a month or two ago and I've been anxiously awaiting the port to android. It shows as compatible with my Nook Tablet 16GB running cm9 .04 (oddly didn't show as compatible for my xoom, but sideloading after purchase fixed that).
Anyway, it runs reasonably smooth with minor glitches similar to what I experience with Dead Space, but on a much less annoying basis. Its definitely playable. Mind you it is a $7 game and requires a large download after installation for the game to run (few hundred mbs).
Link
I'll flash back to cm7 later and see if its compatible, but I have a feeling its not.
Edit: I flashed cm7 and was able to download from the store no problem. It also runs incredibly smooth.
Ill probably flash back to Cm7 myself, DL it, back it up with titanium and then flash back to Cm9 and restore it there. I'll see how it runs

Mass Effect works okay on CM9. I don't know if you've played Dead Space but its completely unplayable as the view point randomly changes constantly.
This happens to a much lesser degree with Mass Effect and IMO is playable.
It works flawlessly on CM7.

Cool, and yes I did try dead space awhile back. It played in portrait mode which was weird. I think there has been an update to fix that though. Plus inflitrator is on sale for memorial day, I'll probably pick it up especially cuz I'm getting a transformer pad 300 in the mail soon.

Yeah the portrait issue was lack of support for android 4.0. The fix came relatively quickly and plays great running on my xoom with an ics rom. Unfortunately as I said, its not playable on the current nook tablet cm9, likely due to the kernel. Mass effect is manageable tho, with a glitch here and there.
Both dead space and mass effect play smoothly on cm7. These games look great and show that big developers can really do some great stuff. I'm especially impressed with the touch screen control optimizations.

Also I don't quite understand, whether there is a completely retarded slow motion system, or Nook Tablet has hardware/software issues that affect frame rate.

Is the finger crippling experience you're having due to the default controls? You can change it to be much much easier to use. I think if you uncheck "tap to aim" it allows you to manually aim which is actually a lot easier, IMO.
Also, I don't know if multitouch works on CM7, but I don't think it does on CM9 and thus it makes it a bit more difficult to play in the current state.

My fingers suffer from the length of swypes, which makes me think that controls were designed for smaller screens, where every point can be reached with thumbs.

Yeah I have this both on my NT and on my Transformer Pad 300. The multitouch issue isn't there on the TF300 and its much nicer to play on both of them with manual aiming. it makes me feel like I'm actually playing a game and not just tapping a screen repeatedly.

I was thinking about getting this, but I'm afraid it'll be another Modern Combat---playable, but suffers due to only being able to use two fingers at a time rather than three or more.

If you're on CM9 then yes, it'll be pretty bad and won't be super playable. If you're on CM7 then you should be just fine.

You sure? I'm on CM7 now, and I still only have dual touch, not multi touch
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Shouldn't dual touch be enough? Same concept as a ps2 controller; your thumbs are the analogs.
Cm9 doesn't support this, so if you try to look around while moving, you will stop moving. If CM7 has dual touch, you should be able to move and look around.

Sure, but not move, look, and fire at the same time. That becomes a problem when you've got multiple enemies and ya gotta jink around a corner to kill them. This is why I've been waiting on (and praying for) multitouch---I'm going through withdrawls

How much faster is Nexus 7 compare to HTC Flyer for real world usage.
I've been using Flyer for about a year now and it's seem to be very slow to me, especially when surfing websites.
Can Nexus handle flash better with Quad cores and all?
I want to know if it worth giving away my Flyer and buy Nexus 7. If it's not too much different, then I'll just keep the flyer.
I've had both and TBH with my Flyer being overclocked to 1.84 GHZ I can notice no difference between the two in smoothness when browsing, tweeting, reading..etc
That said though, JB and quad core does make a difference ofcourse, especially when games are concerned.

I don't know about the Nexus 7, but for your Flyer, you may want to try the Puffin Browser off of the Android Market/Google Play before you buy another tablet. It sped my web surfing up tremendously. The company suggests trying the free version of the app first.
Also, u may want to search Nexus 7 + flash. I've read that it doesn't natively support flash (not certain), but hopefully that's nothing that a downloaded app can't fix.
I have great browsing with Boat browser.
Trust me its a huge speed difference. You guys saying its barely noticeable are just lieing to yourselves. Its like comparing choppiness to butter. Yea there similar alright. Cmon now.
Aside from speed the flyer has a full 7 inch screen in complete use (gingerbread only) and a nice pen function going for it.
yeah gotta agree with you. nexus 7 is faster. That feeling when I use my brother's Nexus7 and then i go back using my flyer ><

Im in the EXACT situation haha
Flyer good...Nexus incredible!
I've had my Flyer for over a year and have been fighting rom issues since then, it is workable (except GPS...Shame on you HTC for not fixing this!). Side by side -I've had my Nexus for 3 days now, the nexus screen is brighter, better contrast- whites now look slightly yellowed on the Flyer. Nexus speed is much better(expected), BT, GPS, & WiFi all operate flawlessly. I am using a usb adaptor cable from Amazon ($2.00)! to further expand storage and also connects to other devices for file transfer and viewing.Battery life on the Flyer was a solid 4.5 hours with constant video loop running- I expect 2/3 to twice the run time with the Nexus. I have a rooted-32g Nexus...couldn't be happier at this point!
Final note- I side loaded Flash and it works well with Firefox Beta.:fingers-crossed: Update:Boat browser is very fast and stable, I usually have to reboot my Flyer a couple of times a day due to lag or sometimes freezing...not so with the Nexus.
The two aren't even comparable. The N7 blows the flyer/view4g away in every aspect. I have the Veiw4g and the N7, and I don't even use the view anymore. It's so slow and crappy, it's not even worth it. If you are thinking about getting the N7, just do it. The flyer is dated now, and it's not going to get any fast no matter what you do.
Oh, and as far as media consumption goes, the N7 can actually handle everything I throw at it. I can't even watch my vulkano in anything more than low res on the view. But the N7 I can put it to it's highest quality setting and it works great. Same with Hulu, and Netflix. As well as streamed content from my HTPC.
I've played with the N7 at stores and it's pretty nice.
If Someone gave me one for free, I probably would use my flyer drastically less.
However, as much as I want project butter on my flyer I find that it would probably be a waste of money for me to personally upgrade. I'll still do the same stuff with either device.. Browse web, facebook, read books, and avoid pulling out a netbook when I can. So it raises the question why upgrade if I have a perfectly working device?

You sir are corect N7 blows but not Flyer away but simply BLOWS; with no SD card, no stereo sound, no vibra, no front camera, no pen, no HW buttons; so wjhat extra from cpu and scree is there left at all? No sim?
So that means:
limited to no small amount of space
Cant do videocalls (good luck with mirrors)
No silent alert wheil in classes, meetings ect...
Less screen
ect ect...
For mine usage of device it BLOWS unlike Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 wich is quite nice; more up to date device then Flyer and has that "magic" JB/ICS, wich Flyer doesent; but even with the JB ports we do have for Flyer we have more working hardware then Nexus have. And good luck with rearlly suported tegra games.

Umm, they are coming out with a 3g N7, you realize that, right? The sound between the two is comparable, as I HAVE both. Is having vibrate really necessary on a tablet? And it has a front camera, just no rear camera? I'm beginning to wonder if you have even used the device. It has a front camera specifically for video calls. HW buttons are a matter of preference, but not a necessity. The pen I will give you, but when you can't even get HTC to FIX the crap they broke with the update, IT"S NOT WORTH DEALING WITH IT. I will never own another HTC device after HTC screwed us over on the tablets. (not to mention the year wait on getting ICS on my old Tbolt, or 8 months for the rezound I bought) The SD card missing is a downer, but there are many workarounds that it's not a total loss. There is WIFI storage sharing (so I can use the 80GB I have on my phone between it's 64GB sd and 16 internal) Then there is USB OTG.
So that means:
limited to no small amount of spaceYou are not limited, just not as easy to add storage as with the flyer/View
Cant do videocalls (good luck with mirrors)This is just flat wrong
No silent alert wheil in classes, meetings ect... Really? It doesn't have a LED, but it does still "alert", just on screen. How many alerts do you have set up on your tab? I have almost none. Mostly calendar appt's and such.
Less screenHow? If there is a difference(16:9 vs 16:10) its a matter of a .1 inch or so.
ect ect...

You have a rear camera/SD card. that's it. I have both. (actually, I have all three. View/Flyer/N7. The flyer is my Fiancees. and I have the View/N7.

I cant give u sdcard to share u mine documents with is prity common on all mobiel devices. U cant film your gf or take pic of her, u cant draw or handwrite, no way to listen to quality music since onlly suporting 1 chanel insted of minimum 2 for stereo.

CORECTOMUNDO - u did figure it already with rear camera working SD slot but u forgot the pen and hw buttons we have stereo sound as well on JB and vibra working. All this is working on Flyer loaded with JB and is something N7 wont EVER have. Never Ever.
All i am saying is for what i need tab N7 sucks. Now if your onlly use of tab is a bit faster browsing i guess N7 is a winer buy. I unfortunally expect more. And there is much N7 does simplly not offer. Its not cheap for no reason I wont go into ghosting and cracking screens...

Yeah, I still honestly love the build quality on the flyer and it still has a relatively nice screen.
Since you are on the JB rom, I need to ask did they get the screen to turn off properly yet? That was the only thing holding me back personally. As long as it has good battery life I am really considering using it.

if you are referring to the backlight remaining on after locking the screen - it still occurs quite often. however, if i turn it on and off a few times it eventually completely turns off (can be quite annoying) i am really not sure of the battery life as i basically keep the flyer charged.
P.S. I recently had a few random reboots ( but only once while I was actually using it ) and it won't play HD YouTube - not that big o f a deal to me
Nah
