Mass Effect: Infiltrator - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

This game came out for iOS a month or two ago and I've been anxiously awaiting the port to android. It shows as compatible with my Nook Tablet 16GB running cm9 .04 (oddly didn't show as compatible for my xoom, but sideloading after purchase fixed that).
Anyway, it runs reasonably smooth with minor glitches similar to what I experience with Dead Space, but on a much less annoying basis. Its definitely playable. Mind you it is a $7 game and requires a large download after installation for the game to run (few hundred mbs).
Link
I'll flash back to cm7 later and see if its compatible, but I have a feeling its not.
Edit: I flashed cm7 and was able to download from the store no problem. It also runs incredibly smooth.

Ill probably flash back to Cm7 myself, DL it, back it up with titanium and then flash back to Cm9 and restore it there. I'll see how it runs

You should be able to get it while on cm9

Weird, you're right it is. Btw backing up in cm7 and restoring in cm9 worked great for Riptide, world of goo and shadow gun also, does mass effect run well on Cm9?
Sent from my Team A CM9 Alpha 0.04 Nook Tablet

Mass Effect works okay on CM9. I don't know if you've played Dead Space but its completely unplayable as the view point randomly changes constantly.
This happens to a much lesser degree with Mass Effect and IMO is playable.
It works flawlessly on CM7.

Cool, and yes I did try dead space awhile back. It played in portrait mode which was weird. I think there has been an update to fix that though. Plus inflitrator is on sale for memorial day, I'll probably pick it up especially cuz I'm getting a transformer pad 300 in the mail soon.
Sent from my Team A CM9 Alpha 0.04 Nook Tablet

Yeah the portrait issue was lack of support for android 4.0. The fix came relatively quickly and plays great running on my xoom with an ics rom. Unfortunately as I said, its not playable on the current nook tablet cm9, likely due to the kernel. Mass effect is manageable tho, with a glitch here and there.
Both dead space and mass effect play smoothly on cm7. These games look great and show that big developers can really do some great stuff. I'm especially impressed with the touch screen control optimizations.

I bought MEI for my galaxy nexus. Can't play it due to a 5002 ea server error. Any ideas what a fix may be? I need the additional SD data and can't get it.

Playing it right now on CM7 alpha. It's playable, but IMHO it's finger crippling experience on a 7" screen.
Also I don't quite understand, whether there is a completely retarded slow motion system, or Nook Tablet has hardware/software issues that affect frame rate.

Is the finger crippling experience you're having due to the default controls? You can change it to be much much easier to use. I think if you uncheck "tap to aim" it allows you to manually aim which is actually a lot easier, IMO.
Also, I don't know if multitouch works on CM7, but I don't think it does on CM9 and thus it makes it a bit more difficult to play in the current state.

My fingers suffer from the length of swypes, which makes me think that controls were designed for smaller screens, where every point can be reached with thumbs.

Yeah I have this both on my NT and on my Transformer Pad 300. The multitouch issue isn't there on the TF300 and its much nicer to play on both of them with manual aiming. it makes me feel like I'm actually playing a game and not just tapping a screen repeatedly.

I was thinking about getting this, but I'm afraid it'll be another Modern Combat---playable, but suffers due to only being able to use two fingers at a time rather than three or more.

You sure? I'm on CM7 now, and I still only have dual touch, not multi touch
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

Shouldn't dual touch be enough? Same concept as a ps2 controller; your thumbs are the analogs.
Cm9 doesn't support this, so if you try to look around while moving, you will stop moving. If CM7 has dual touch, you should be able to move and look around.

Dead Space

Has anyone gotten dead space to run properly on their nook color? It installed and runs quite well on the nook color, however all i see is white screen. I'm able to move the character around but its difficult due to the graphical issue. Help?
Just tried it out on mine, running cm7 N157, and it's a no go for me. the game crashes right as the movie starts. Any tips for getting past that?

Same problem for me. The game starts up for a second, I see the logo and then it closes itself.
Make sure you already have the downloaded files installed under "ea" folder

I don't even get a movie or white screen... My screen lights up for a few seconds, and then closes the program. No warning or force close, nothing.
This is with multiple settings in Chainfire 3d's newest update. Even if I try to emulate it with the Qualcomm plugin.
Files are on SD card under ea
Edit: Forgot to mention that I tried this on both the .29 kernel and the .32 kernel.
Update: For those who have paid for this game, look for the Hacked Galaxy S apk file and the PowerVR sd card files, works a treat =D. So beautiful! One more reason it's okay I sold my PS3.

Didn't work for me. I launch the game. It checks for updates. I have a black screen, whith what looks like the bottom of a "marker" on the bottom of the screen for a second before it closes. No force close notification or error, the app just isn't on the screen anymore.
Are there any specific CF3D settings you're using? Do you have the EGL driver installed?

Did you make sure to replace the EA sd card data with the PowerVR files? As I made that mistake the first time.
No specific settings in CF3D, in fact, I would venture to say it doesn't need any since my default settings are for tegra, and that's what it's using.
No Idea what the EGL driver is...
Will also mention I am on the .29 kernel right now.
Yeah, I tried the regular SD files as well as the PowerVR files. With both file sets I tried tegra, qualcomm, and PowerVR plugins. No luck. I think I'm just going to give up, maybe I'll play it if I end up getting another tablet or phone down the road. Thanks for your help though!

Why would you use PowerVR data files if you have CF3D set to tegra? I'm not sure how that would work.
Our devices are PowerVR I believe. So it doesn't go through CF3D at all. I was merely mentioning, that I hadn't messed or done anything with CF3D to make it work.
My default settings just happen to be for tegra since I obviously have the tegra games as well.
My only gripe with this game so far... It's almost impossible to play with a touch screen, the controls are just really difficult to grasp. You have to run using your thumb on one side of the screen, while at the same time aiming and shooting with the other thumb. Ammo is even more sparse than the original games, and with how impossible it is to shoot the aliens just right, you never have ammo. Curb stomping requires a swipe, which can lead to a messed up camera and you dead. And the plasma cutter is hit or miss since it's in the corner of the screen, again possibly screwing up the camera.
Got to a point where I just kept running.
Other than that... Impressive graphics that would make any fanboy drool at the chance to play, story line seems pretty eerie and interesting from the first 30mins or so of play. In-ear headphones definitely make it just as traumatizing as the first 2. (Of course, my subwoofer does a much better job at making me jump ;p)
That said, if you still can't get it to work, I would suggest trying on a .29 kernel. Currently using Phiremod 6.2, less of battery, .29 kernel is just a much better kernel for those who aren't looking to not use their nook for long periods of time. N64oid is freakin awesome now ;p. Video is less laggy. So is flash.
Just a thought =D

I don't believe it does, which is unfortunate with the recent release of SixAxis.
So, could you guys that have this up and running give us detailed instructions on how you got it to run? I have generated my imei number, downloaded and installed chainfire 3d, all of its plug ins, and changed my build prop to a couple of different things. tried a hacked version of the game, galaxy apk, sd cache, vr cache, still no dice. Been at it for like 4 hours, my ocd will not let me walk away.

Since you have been at it for like 4hrs, maybe just for the hell of it, you should try the .29kernel instead and see if that's the missing link.

For those of you who have it working I have a question.. Is it REALLY worth the $4.99!? Ive been spoiled by .99c games. Honestly I doubt I purchase it just because of that. But if Im missing out and NEED to play this game could any body offer a brief explanation why? I have read about the game already but would like to hear from someone who is playing on an Atrix. Thanks ahead of time.

i bought it yesterday, but didn't play it for very long. it's a pretty fun game, and the controls were really intuitive. it's exactly how you would want to control a fps on a touch screen, left side of the screen for moving and right for camera.
the graphics were pretty amazing for a smartphone, i was impressed. and i didn't experience any sort of lag, which was even better (using the 1.0ghz enhanced kernel CM7)
i'd say it's worth the 5 dollars, i only got about half an hour into it so far and was already satisfied with my purchase. the animations are all voice acted so far, gameplay is fun, and controls are great for a touch screen.
I highly recommend this game. Well worth the $5. The controls are much better than the gameloft FPS's that I've played and the graphics are amazing. When you compare the price to a console game it's a no brainer purchase.
On the gameloft shooters they kinda auto aim for you (sorta like goldeneye on n64) but on this game once you press the fire button you can move your finger and move your aim, like having dual joysticks. Also the left joystick appears wherever you put your thumb (on the left half of the screen) eliminating the problem of your finger missing the joystick.
The cover system is easy to use and works well. It's nice to have that instead of just having to run around shooting. The enemy AI isn't as good as many console games but miles ahead of other mobile shooters. Enemies will move from cover to cover, one will stick back while the other tries to flank you, etc.
There are a few very minor glitches here and there, but it runs very well on the atrix.
Well worth it...just be ready to kiss your battery byebye

Also... Yesterday(?), there was an update available for the game. After installing it, the character was holding an invisible gun that shelled out little pink blocks. Apparently this was a pretty common problem. This was fixed by reinstalling the game after deleting /sdcard/Android/data/com.madfingergames.shadowgun

Sadly there is no way to make hdmi mirroring with the Atrix... Widescreen that is.
This game is great on both my Atrix and eee pad transformers. For anybody having glitches, just uninstall the game and reinstall. I had to do that on both devices afterthe update. Also for those who have an eee pad with dock, you can plug up an Xbox 360 controller and play the game like it is an Xbox 360 game, just loads faster.

I'll venture a guess here, and say no.
I've got a TP running GB, not overclocked. But GB and ICS are both still buggy as hell, which DQ's the TP in such a test.
If you're doing a speed test and you get FC's and reboots, IMO that should count for something.
I'm not trying to slam dev's here. I love the CM guys and everyone who's working so hard to give me Android goodness on the HPTP.
But seriously, do you think you could compare a $100 tablet running 3rd party open source ROMs and software to the leading market standard?!

Well, first reply not withstanding, I'm running Xrons 2.9.1 at 1.782GHz and it's as smooth as silk with no FCs, reboots or any other faults.
I had the opportunity of using an iPad and all I can tell you is that the iPad owner was looking a little sick when he tried mine!
I wouldn't swop what I have and when a stable fully working CM9 hits the streets it will only get better.
I've tested them side by side and while browsing Opera Mobile under XRON 2.9 @ 192mhz/1.5ghz (up threshhold @ 40%) the TP was about 80% as fast as the iPad 2 at general responsiveness (zooming, scrolling through pages on heavy sites), and a tie at loading pages - some loaded faster on the TP and vice versa.
I also tried the stock XRON browser, but it was too choppy and there was really no comparison.
Google Maps is much faster on the iPad 2 with less jumpiness and is overall just smoother.
Strangely, Google Earth feels much more fluid on the Touchpad with smoother zooming/panning and faster loading.
General responsiveness probably goes to the iPad 2, the home screen is just smoother and more responsive compared to every launcher I tried (VTL, ADW, SPB Shell 3D, Launcher Pro and a few others), and apps tend to open faster.
Netflix is much better on the iPad 2, video is sharper with less compression and scrolling is much smoother.. Not sure if it is playing HD but there is a noticeable difference for sure.
Things have changed quite a bit on ICS and it could be closer now.

It's an Alpha build. If it were in Beta, or out of Beta, I'd consider it. But there are certain implications associated with the Alpha stages of software builds.
iPad 2's GPU outright slays all android devices, so as far as UI you're not going to find a device that even comes close that's out right now, including the Transformer Prime /:
I've heard good things about the Nexus Tablet though.....
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
While I love my HP TouchPad I have to tell you that nothing can touch the current A5 CPU/GPU the iPad 2 uses. It's amazing to say the least. But the TouchPad is good for lots of other things
I've compared my TP (both WebOS and Alpha 3 CM7) to my cousin's iPad 2 and the browsing experience is much better on the iPad. But like sean said, if ICS were in beta or even out then it would be a close battle. I'm running an ICS beta on my Samsung Fascinate and it's the most beautiful rom I've ever played with. Hopefully the TP gets to that same level.
Its hard to compare since they are running 2 completely different operating systems and browsers. Chances are the iPad2 will be faster only because its running a stable OS (I'm not saying Android is unstable, just that its not OEM).
But with the Touchpad you get decent hardware for a lot cheaper and you can run CM.
I'm not really sure where comments like 'buggy as hell' are coming from or what kind of experience other people are having, or apparently not having with some people not having tried and based on assupmtion, but the CM9 runs really smooth for me. The only area where it doesn't is Flash based video, which is a known issue due to the current lack of hardware acceleration.
Alpha is just a word. Some developers are very cautious and prefer to keep things in alpha and beta stages as long as possible to ensure everything is working as it should while others will just push anything out the door.
CM9 seems to run faster on the whole and is a much more responsive experience for me than CM7. I really haven't had any major issues either.
Honestly, even though it's an 'alpha' I've had no problems. On the other hand, I've definitely had the experience of dealing with lots of problems for final release products that I've paid for.

I find the ICS browser on the Touchpad to be great. Its the first all around great browser I've used in Android in terms of scrolling experience, UI, etc.

I more or less agree.
I've had few major problems with CM9a0.5. I'd say it is at least as stable as CM7, and WiFi has actually been more stable for me compared to XRON/CM7 (although still not perfect). And of course the "tablet" experience of ICS is worlds ahead of GB.
The biggest downside to CM9 is the lack of video acceleration therefore lack of Netflix/Youtube HD and high bitrate 720p/1080p videos.
I only tried overclocking my cm9 touch pad with setCPU once and it crashed. Have not tried it since.

cm9 is just awsome. i wish i could get rid of the webOS part because it's a waste of space.
Friend at work as a Ipad2. Paid regular price for it. I took my TP in one day (with cm7) and again the other day (now with cm9). I think she feels rather foolish paying as much as she did and then seeing what I can all do with my $150 tablet...

Probably not. Given the level of effort required for installation, maintenance, and learning the more technical side of things, she'd most likely stick with the iPad.
I dont know your work friend, but that's my guess.
People naturally think that because you managed to get the TP up and running with ICS, that it was worthless getting an iPad. But those people most likely are the same one's that don't have the knowledge to really enjoy the TP, not to mention put the effort into keeping it that way. And at the current state (not even to Alpha 1), it's no comparison.
i payed less than $100 for my touchpad............it now has ICS, it's as fast as any tablet on the market, and has great developmental support. why the hell would i want to pay $500 for another tablet? it's not just ipad, i had tossed around the idea of getting a transformer prime for a while and probably would have one if they weren't so hard to get. then ics hit the touchpad and well the rest is history. i'm happy now. but that's just me and my "$100 fast as hell ICS tablet" talkin.
The thing most people don't understand is if it's this close to an ipad WITHOUT hardware acceleration. It'll straight blow an ipad 2 out of the water when we get it. ICS is more like iOS in that it has hardware accelerated ui. Android never offered that before, which is why we have compensated with faster and more powerful processors up until this point.

Is Ice Cream Sandwich available for the gTab yet?

Just wondering if there is a stable ICS rom yet for this gTab?

[ROM - 1.2] BETA ICS 4.0.X - Team DRH (Update 04/01/12)
This is the only ICS rom for the Gtab that I know about. Been running it since launch and its seems to be doing fine. There are little quirks here and there, mostly sound dropping out, and there is a small list of stuff not working currently, but I have been very pleased to use it as a daily driver. Hell man a awesome rom with HW accelerators, you have to try youtube on this just to see what I mean. Thats worth rebooting every now and then to get sound with it.
one thing I WISH I could get is when I stream video clips through various online pages.. right now I am using RockPlayer lite to open the video clips... but there is no ability to automatically REPEAT the clip once it is done playing.
Is this something ICS fixes?
I decided not to wait for HDMI and took the plunge this morning. Easy install with just one or two scary moments (due to my lack of patience). Now I'm watching Champions League soccer from foxsoccer.tv. Best handling of streaming Flash video I've seen yet. Not a single pause or lockup in more than an hour. And my wireless USB kb/touchpad combo works and looks great (I'll take an arrow pointer over that faint "x" any day). Congratulations to Team DRH. Any guess as to when I can hook my GTab up to the big screen?

Team DRH beta 1.3 was released 2 July. A little less bug, speed improvements etc... Jelly Bean will come hen it's ready or release.

I loaded the latest beta on and although it looks great and I really do like it, my gtab is now a dog when it comes to doing anything...very laggy, widgets take forever to load up when going back to home screen. Over all just very slooooow. For a dula core tab with a not so very high screen resolution it should be a lot faster. I am hoping for more speed improvements, or did I do something wrong when I went through the install process? I dunno, but keep up the good work because it makes me want to use the gtab again (if it was not so laggy).
Did you let it "bake" after install? Many folks have had good results with letting the tablet sit undisturbed for 30 minutes or more after flashing, before connecting wifi and registering with Google. I let mine "bake"over night, and it has seemed to prevent the lag.
Good Luck.

I ran it for a week, loved the interface and all the customization options, and HBO GO worked flawlessly.
Just couldn't get past all the freezing and stuttering, some of my games wouldn't work and my avi files wouldn't play off the sd card with the default player and I couldn't find a place to set preferences to use MX player, wouldn't even prompt me as to which player to use, so I went back to C&C 1.2 final.
Who knows, might be damaged internal flash memory or just felt slow after running overclocked at 1.5ghz for so long.
But still it's shaping up pretty darn sexy and heads and shoulders above most of the Honeycomb roms I tried.
Hats off to DRH.

How stable are cm9 builds are touchpad

I'm getting a good deal on touchpad. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and buy it instead of asus transformer as I planned initially since touchpad also has official CM9 nightlies now ?
Is everything working now ? Are there any bugs, etc? I won't be doing the dual boot thing. I just need only 1 OS.
You cant only have one OS on the TouchPad unless its webOS. And if you can, you shouldnt because you NEED webOS on there to get into webOS recovery if anything goes wrong. That being said, CM9 is fairly stable. The only major bugs are mic and camera dont work. Most of the ROM threads have what works and what doesnt work in the first post.
ohh so the camera doesn't work That's a deal breaker for me
Thanks..

Not yet. These ARE Alpha builds we're using.
And gyroscope in games doesn't work. And battery life is abismal.
At this price it's easier to get Allwinner 10" tablet with IPS screen and fully working ICS.
But I'm still happy. Dual core u cannot beat!

Gyroscope in game works fine. I play Temple Run all of the time and it works no problem.

Temple Run uses the accelerometer, not gyroscope.
I just tried out a few different apps, and the gyro does not appear to work (at least on the specific build that I have).

Remember you still have fully working webOS on there for video chat. All you have to do is reboot. webOS is only lacking apps, the user experience is actually really nice. Its quick, elegant, intuitive, and stable. I prefer webOS over CM7, but put CM9 slightly higher.
As far as CM9 stability .... I am sitting at 863 hours (yes, over a month) of up time on my TouchPad. I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a Force Close.
I feel the battery life is great. I see about 1.5%/hour drain on idle. I can get probably 6 hours of screen on time, on average 15%/hour with screen on. Battery life is better on webOS.
The build quality and specs of the TouchPad are still high end. Its basically an iPad 2, same screen size and resolution, but with faster processor and twice the RAM. The TouchStone inductive charger is a great accessory. I haven't plugged a cable into my TouchPad since 2011.
If you want a 10" tablet you will not find a better value for your money than the TouchPad anywhere.

I'm loving CM9 on my touchpad.
With the sole exception being the flaky WiFi. It usually connects after some unknown combination of Airplane Mode on-off /fix permissions/wifi on-off. Only very occasionally does WiFI conenct when I turn on the touchpad.
And then there's the issue with the Wifi reporting connected, but no software being able to connect to the net.
What is the price dicfernce between the touchpad and the transformation.er?
