SafeStrap - Motorola Droid RAZR

I have a rooted razr, with safestrap installed. Is there a way to use cwm recovery instead? I see that you can install cwm using bootstrap, but everyone seems to like safestrap better. well from what i have read. Any input would be great.
Thanks

Safestrap and bootstrap are cwm scripts.
Bootstrap is for motorola Razr abd Safestrap for Droid Razr and Maxx from verizon..

He's just saying that safestrap is safer.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA

Why would one be more safer then the other? I installed CWT (ClockworkMod Touch) before hearing about Safestrap, should I install safestrap and forget CWT? I much prefer CWT to anything else I've ever used... But I will stick with whatever is recommended

Safestrap
I have used both Bootstrap and Safestrap. I prefer Bootstrap, because it doesn't show up at the beginning of a boot up. If you want to get into the recovery, then you go to the app and select too. Right now i am using Safestrap v2.

How do I change rom after root?

I've rooted my phone, and looked for a guide on how to change rom and I didnt find one.
Can anyone link me a guide on how to change rom on RAZR?
Thanks in advance.
You need to install bootstrap recovery and then install CWM on boot package. After you've done that you can download a custom rom and install it via recovery. I wrote an article about this on my blog, here is the link
http://aashrey99razr.wordpress.com/roms/how-to-flash/

Could someone please post a Nandroid of the CDMA ICS leak?

As above. Would like to have a tinker to see if it'll boot with the GSM ICS leak kernel and some lib swaps/build.prop edits. Not expecting any joy, but worth a shot, right?
TIA.

No, you couldn't because CWM can't flash the radio, bootloader, or kernel updates that the leak runs on.

Damn, can't even get it to flash, CWM spits the dummy on the MD5. Tried using the same boostrap that's included in the data tar, tried recreating the MD5s, tried putting the files in all sorts of folder names, no joy. Kinda wish CWM still used .IMG so I could try fastbooting them, heh.

Clockworkmod vs Bootstrap vs Safestrap etc

Few questions. I upgraded my phone in the last couple of months from the HTC Incredible to the Droid Razr Maxx. I had a great experience with rooting my DInc and using Clockworkmod along with Rom Manager to to flash CM7 nightlies and so forth.
Anyway, now that I'm using a Razr it seems like a lot of the forums I've been searching in don't use Clockworkmod but other recovery utilities such as Bootstrap and Safestrap to name a couple. One of my questions is...does it really matter what recovery I use to flash a particular Rom? Why is one recommended over another?
In the last week I wanted to try flashing Eclipse on my Razr using Clockworkmod but a guy in another forum mentioned and recommended using a different recovery. Can one recovery be more stable than another? I'm somewhat tech savvy but definitely not to the degree of so many great developers I lean on in this site. Thanks again by the way!
If you use an XT912 you have to use Safestrap (2.0 if you're on ICS)
If you got an XT910 you can't use the regular Safestrap. Instead you have to use Bootstrap (ClockWorkMod)
Best way to flash on XT910 is the Boot Menu Manager (based on ClockWorkMod with an lot of features)
XT910 = Bootstrap / BootMenu
XT912 = Safestrap
That's all

Many Roms for the XT912 tell in the instructions to use Safestrap.
You can't use both of them, so you should uninstall Bootstrap and get Safestrap running.
Uninstall Bootstrap isn't just uninstall the App through the Drawer. You have to delete some files manually and so on.
Search xda for how to uninstall Bootstrap and you will find an way. I've never tried to uninstall it without flashing an Fastboot through RSD (for me the easiest solution).

This is a QA thread and should be moved to QA. There is no dev going on.
Thanks
Fwiw - I'm using bootstrap on my razr Maxx with no problems. Btw, I'm on Verizon CDMA.
And, in my opinion, I see no reason to use rom manager since everything in it either needs cwm (which says it isn't supported) or premium acct. I do use rom toolbox for some changes, but not much. Bootstrap gets me into a recovery so I can do backups and recovery. Backup apps via titanium backup for best coverage, imo.
Is that wrong? I I figure if it works, don't fix it. Lol

Ok - I'm going to amend my previous post. I've since updated to JB this month, and haven't put Bootstrap or Safestrap back on yet. Right before I updated to JB, though, I noticed I couldn't restore my nand backup throught BS though. Did some digging around online, and found this was a common problem. No matter what I tried, it was unsuccessful. Oh well, there went that process.
However, I've never been a fan SafeStrap (or dual booting in general). I'm hesistant to install SS because I don't understand how it works (compared to BStrap). I'm already at the point where my system ROM (stock) has a mere 2kB left of free space. Don't ask how that happened, I don't know. And I wish there were more, honestly.
So if I install SafeStrap - what about my storage issues? Where does slot 0, slot 1, slot 2 reside? Are they on the system ROM partition? Or stored on the SD Card? Or in built in memory? See attached for amount of space available... you can see why I'm concerned about space availability!
Personally, I think Safestrap is superior and it has saved my phone on numerous occasions. I'm not sure how similar the underlying processes are, but dual booting my phone is similar to dual booting my computer. Safestrap is phenomenal because it boots before either rom does, so if there is an issue with one installation, then you can reinstall it from a backup, etc. The latest Safestrap is based off of TWRP I believe. The system works very well, has a lot of features and supports touch.
As far as your problem booting your custom ROM is concerned (if I read your post correctly), it may be because when you updated to JB, your kernel was updated as well, so you can only use ROMs compatible with your current kernel.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I don't have a custom ROM though. I'm still stock, rooted.

I have been waiting for jellybean for the original RAZR. I am rooted and I have data limit and no wifi. I would download the cyanogen 10 for my RAZR but like I said, data limit of only 4 gb. Any updates you can give me on the JB update for my phone? Currently on ICS 4.0.4

This update work on GSM RAZR XT910 with ICS 4.0.4. It's the sames step describes on the website:
1) **Make sure you are on ICS 4.0.4 AND ROOTED**
2) Plug in your Razr to your PC and move the "Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file to your SD card.
3) Download OTA RootKeeper app from the Play Store. (or using option 3 in RazrUtility)
4) Open OTA RootKeeper and select "Restore Root". Then select "Temp. un-root". Then, once again, select "Restore Root", then select Temp Unroot.
5) Power into Recovery mode. Once you see the android with the red triangle, hold vol. up and vol. down buttons.
6) Select "apply update from SD Card">"Choose .zip from SD card"
7) Select the "Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file and wait for it to finish. (This will take about 15 min).
8) Power on your Razr and open the OTA RootKeeper app.
9) Click "Restore Root"
10) Enjoy JB with root access

Well searching and following instructions go a long way. There are multiple threads with instructions on how to update. I know because I wrote one. First step is to fastboot back to stock 211 (assuming you're on 211 now.) That will get rid of safestrap.

Why not just flash the JB Kernel and an JB Custom Rom. In that case you can roll back to tge ICS Kernel and don't get in any kind of trouble with Root.

Oh you mean an actual OTA Update? After the accidental OTA, Moto supposedly said that it would be a few weeks before they push an ACTUAL release via OTA. So, with that said, according to Moto we should get an OTA before January is over with.
Thank you! I couldn't remember the letters ota for nothing! That's what I was really asking. Thank you for the information.
