Good Morning my fellow Jetstream owners.
I have some trusted contacts that have informed me that HTC is not likely to produce an ice cream sandwich ROM for jetstream.
It is a simple business decision, it costs a ton of money to develop, test and support a build. So I have to agree with the decision.
Having said that, I am working on a plan with HTC and a developer to partner up and develop a ROM for us. As far as a I know this will be the first time an XDA dev and HTC have partnered on a dev project.
I will keep this forum updated on progress.

Well, on one hand I'm happy to hear that we might some day get ics.
On the other hand, I feel like I deserv an official answer after spending all that money.
Thanks for the information.
The thing I'm sure of - I wil never purchase htc again.

I must agree with guru_shastri! This tablet is one of the most expensive tablets in the Android tablet market space, and for HTC to deny its customer information on future upgrades is shameful! If you are no longer going to support a product do what HP did and DROP THE PRICE! I will never buy an HTC product ever again, phone or tablet. This is why HTC is loosing money...
I really hope this project takes place and does not end up born dead as it is the same for me, I hadeverything HTC, phone (Desire Z) two tabs (Flyer and jetstream) but I move simply away from HTC as not ICS on any of these devices. Samsung Glide Keyboard phone that will receive ICS, Huawei 7" Mediapad already on ICS and waiting for the Galaxy tab Note 10"
HTC wake up!! You are loosing a important customer base by not providing support to devices less than a year old and so expensive!!
No ICS update, no more buy products made by HTC
I'm very disappointed by the response of the HTC as they will not to provide any ICS upgrades for the HTC Jetstream. This item is very expensinve and thus we, as a customer, deserve receiving ICS update considering other cheaper items from HTC got major updates.
When it comes to me, 'No ICS update' means no more buying products made by HTC.
This is the biggest flaw in Android.

Apple really has the upper ground here because there are only a few devices they really have to worry about configuring iOS for (iPhone 4, 4s, iPad 1,2,3). Android has how many lol.
It is really a wrench in the gears.
AND, google announcing Jelly Bean Nexus devices this Winter... really?
Considering everyone is running 2.3.3 mostly, why would you want to begin implementing 5.0? Big game of catch up. Sorry. Had to rant.
As I posted elsewhere on this thread.
Here is my reply from HTC yesterday.
Dear.....
At this time we do not have any information as to what the next update will be for the Jetstream or any other HTC tablets. The information is not available as to whether or not the Jetstream will get Ice Cream Sandwich or a HTC Sense update. The current version of Sense is HTC Sense 1.1 for the tablet.
I hope this helps. If any information is released, most of the time it is posted on our Facebook page. That is where the information has been posted in the past for devices that are to receive updates.
..........
I agree with people's remarks here. Shame on HTC, to abandon any upgrades, Sense or ICS, for such a high end tablet.
Biggest brand killer, is to make and sell high end products and then not support it.
The person making these sort of decisions should be fired.

A little disapppointing, but I can't complain. I paid 169 dollars for it on a one year contract with Rogers.
I feel like such a fool for not getting the lenovo thinkpad now. I used to be a fan of HTC but now I've traded my Evo 3D for a nexus and the Jetstream might be next. If you can get them to cooperate with helping developers get a working 4.0 build I would be very appreciative. The tablet has the horsepower but the software cripples it to merely passable.
Moping won't help us.
the flyer forum has 2 or 3 ics versions in progress. they got a developer to help them, for money, and he got them the breakthrough.
bounty is the way to go. the device is far cheaper now, if we had more money we could get one for another developer..
Not that it will help but for clarification, they said they would continue to support Honeycomb on the Flyer/Evo and JetStream, but were not going ahead with ICS.
Makes me sick too, but I had to clarify.
I don't know why they don't just release the source after a period after they say, "no more upgrades." With open source OSes it only makes sense to allow people who bought the devices to tinker with them once the retailer has essentially...committed themselves to abandoning their customers.
Google should really think long and hard about the Apache licensing compact thingy thing and see what they can do about these lame manufacturers who are bleeding us dry.

Ah, I just posted over in the General section about this. I'd like to help out with the dev if I can. I want nothing to do with the bounty, but I will contribute up to $50 if it will help get an HTC dev involved.

How nice of them to "support" a device by doing absolutely nothing. How is it even legal to call it that?
Well I've join the Jetstream family dispite all the bad press. I am a HTC fan, but sorry to hear the news. But glad to hear to good news of possibilities
Why doesn't HTC even give a new Sense update. I know they can't go to Sense 4.0, but what about 3.5 or 3.6 like they did with other Honeycomb HTC users?
They can't expect to leave us hanging and then make another HTC tablet, that would be insane on HTC to do that.
Can hardly wait to hear your plan. We are all ears my friend.
When will be get an update on the plan ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, count me as another new Jetstream owner. I just picked mine up on Friday, May 25. I already knew that HTC had announced that there would be no ICS for this tablet but my desire to have a tablet with stylus coupled with the superiority of the Jetstream over the Lenovo tablet made the decision easy. I run ICS (turl's CM9) on my Atrix and would surely like to have it on the Jetstream, but won't go nuts for it.
My primary reason for desiring the stylus is to use this tablet connected to a large TV as a pseudo smart whiteboard for helping my kids with their homework. In that capacity, the fine writing capabilities of the Scribe stylus are fantastic and therefore I accepted the dead-end attitude of HTC and bought anyway.
While I've had smart phones for a long time (back to iPaq with GSM sleeve as my first integrated phone + PDA), this is my first tablet and I'm really enjoying it. I do despise the bloatware and will surely root to have Titanium freeze that junk, but otherwise having lots of fun.
If there is a bounty running to get ICS on the Jetstream then I will contribute. I probably won't run the ICS port unless it has all of the Scribe bolt-ons for the above-stated reason, but would still contribute to support the dev of the ICS port to what I think is a great tablet.

For the record, HTC has never said they wouldn't update the tablet. They just said we wouldn't be getting ICS. They did claim that it will still receive software updates. This might mean Android 3.2 and an updated Sense, or it might just mean security patches.
I would love to see even 3.2 on this. There was a noticeable increase in touchscreen/display performance when I upgraded my Transformer. (Which I kinda miss, but I got a sweet deal on an unlimited LTE data plan for the Jetstream, so it took over.)
I would definitely give up Sense for some CM9 though, if the stylus is fully supported. I think the big hurdle will be the RIL. Having taken a cursory look at some (but not all) of the hardware in the Jetstream, I'd think CM9 is pretty feasible on it, save for the LTE radio, which there's no way in hell I'm willing to sacrifice.
ICS for HTC Jetstream
I'm looking at picking one up today and can do some development however I'm wondering about the source release. From what I understand Android means that the sources have to be availed. Is something different with ICS? Do device makers now have the option?
Please let me know because though I can do whatever else I want with this thing I'm not keen on trying any ICS porting without the sources.
Thanks.

Hmmm.. do get or not to get an HTC Jetstream and ....
I bought it.
I still have some things to consider before taking the ICS port jump. Mainly, an X61T port for my current,
and possibly to be replaced by the Jetstream, Lenovo X61T work machine. To date ICS on the X61T runs real smooth.
Some tablet related issues to work out. .. Still deciding which to keep ...

Hi all! Today I was thinking about ICS on Jetstream and here what I get in conclusion.
HTC devices are stick to sense, so mabe HTC stil does not have SENSE for ICS tablets!?
So mabe when HTC presents new tablet, they also will preset a new sense for 10" ICS tablets?
What u guys think about it? It make some "sense"

thats a stupid move....on both the jetstream (which was very expensive) and the flyer (which was very popular after the price cut)

at least we got an answer.
never touching HTC again after this.
Also, now is the time to put some money to our ICS bounty...since it is the last hope for this device.

Not to rain on our already rainy parade, but that's not much of a hope. With Honeycomb being closed source, and everything HTC (except the kernel) being closed source, there's pretty much zero chance this device will ever see ICS.
I love my One X, but I really wish I could go back in time and get a Galaxy Tab.
I am very dissapointed. I was bought my jetstream off contract from at&t last october 910usd include taxes and unlock. Very very expensive. And no update? HTC is a shame!!! Today I got my galaxy tab 2 p3100 which has 4.0.3 factory loaded. Great speed and usage. Dual core processor and lot of memory. And cost me 350usd factory unlocked. So thats what I call money steal.

But - for the right amount of money we just might be able to recruit a developer to release us from the htc choke hold.
And also, russ said he's working to get htc to cooperate with him on building a rom for us.here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651651

why is honeycomb closed source? the source was released the same day ICS source was released. HTC sense for tablets i don't know about the source but for phones it is fairly open + its not like htc are done with tablets for good. when the next bunch come out im sure someone will port something over for you
wish the jetstream came to the UK but thats a long gone wish
I dont understand why HTC will not update the rom. I will be happy for honeycomb update too. Honeycomb 3.2 update and sense update will be greathful. Why want htc to kill this good tablet.

Jumping ship as they say...it's a shame and there will be a ripple effect.
From a hardware perspective it is still an incredible device. It is truly a shame that HTC has pulled the plug on it and is washing it's hands of what were very likely highly committed HTC users. It was a premium device with a premium price and devoted HTC fans were confident it was a worthy purchase. Although the device did not see extensive penetration, the customers the company will lose as a result (including myself) were valuable voices in the marketplace as champions of the company among other consumers. Though small, there will be a ripple effect. People look to their tech savvy friends and family members for buying advice and I am certainly sharing my experiences openly and honestly.
I have always previously trusted HTC to keep capable devices relevant. Unfortunately, the Jetstream's honeycomb software seemed like an interim OS until HTC had time to get 4.0 up and running. HTC Sense on the Jetstream experiences frequent reboots, the pen gets laggy, the stock notes app hangs up and fails to recognize pen movement at times and the device certainly does not run like it should with this hardware....the processor could still hang with the best of them if it was properly supported.
The HTC One X was going to be my next phone. I've been a fan of the company since it's Windows Mobile days. This experience both from a device standpoint under the current software and the lack of commitment from the company to adequately support the device moving forward (which in my humble opinion includes ICS support) has me waiting for the GS III or other flagship device. Jumping ship as they say.

I know there have been emails, speculation and all of that jazz.
Here it is however, officially official for anyone/everyone to see.
I'm sure if you call a few customer service reps, you can find one or two that will reignite the speculation. It's too quite in here.
yeah that's it. Does kind of suck. my phone was one of the first to receive an ics update from htc and it is absolutely amazing even with its heavily skinned sense ui. But the downside is its built on 4.03 and before 4.04, ics is so buggy you'd think it was in beta, and battery life has gone to complete hell too, and for the htc vivid, it's probably its first and last update from htc.
Hopefully someone delivers a good ics rom for us.

Lol yeah I don't see a petition doing much good at this point. HTC has decided the cost of giving us an update is more than the cost of loosing our business so they'll just ignore a petition.
Really I don't seen how it could cost them that much though. These is a company that doesn't differentiate from hardware too much and there are several phones that either have ics or are getting it with very similar if not identical hardware. Its not like they have to develop from scratch, really just taking something like the one v rom, optimize it for a tablet, and adding drivers for the front camera is all they'd have to do. 90% of all htc device's if not more have some version of the snapdragon with an adreno gpu so getting us a working ICS update shouldn't take more than a day with the resources they have.

Disappointed in HTC - would have to think long and VERY hard before buying another product from this manufacturer.
yeah it is a nice tablet still. I don't get the marketing and design though. they set it up to fail from day one by releasing it at a high price point that you could get a 10 inch honeycomb tablet for. most people just passed it up and went to the xoom sitting next to it. or just bought an ipad. HTC seems to do this alot, just throw some product out there with some innovative features, but overall make it unappealing to the market (in this case the pen, but remember the Facebook phone?). They really took a knife to a gun fight with the flyer and now they wanna pretend it never existed.

Long term, the phone and tablet market will be a 2 horse race. The SGS and Galaxy tab outsell any HTC phones/tablets and the Apple Iphone/Ipad will continue to dominate (....am I allowed to say that here ?)
Nokia are making massive losses.
RIM in steep decline.
Sony have lost their mojo.
HTC struggled last year but the One range may do them some good - if they don't alienate too many flyer/view owners
Samsung are a bit plasticky.
yeah I'm a former samsung owner, build quality could be worse but they do use too much plastic no doubt

Wouldn't mind so much if HC didn't suck so much on the flyer - performance just seems awful. Ah well think I'm just gonna stick Dexter's ICS/Sense 4 rom on my flyer and live without the pen. At least I'll have the goodness of chrome and it runs much smoother than the official HC release ever did.
I'll have to think carefully about ever buying another HTC device - if I wasn't so happy with my one X I think I'd have turned my back on them by now. Not that they'd care of course.
Well HTC sucks, but not as much as Motorola ( i have the dorid x2) who locks their bootloaders, never unlocks them, never releases the source code and drops support even for currently selling phones only 4 months old. But wait, ain't Motorola part of that funny sounding company ,,,?? starts with a G........ oh, yes, Google. Hummmmmmmm
Oh and BTW, FYI, UBETCHA, I'm reverting to FROYO, which was so less laggy, leggy, jerky, jittery, clucky, clicky, smelly, bed bug ridden ,stinky, crappy, gassy, slimy, limey, and sticky/rickety than GB, HC, ICS, JB and any future or past or other version of Andorid, IOS, WP, SENSE, BB, ET, or NBC.
And speaking of petitions, I'm gonna start a petition to have Apple and Samsung bury HTC in patient infringement litigation to the point for HTC cannot sell a single device , hhahhaahhahooohooohhhoehehehehehee LOL LMAO.
There I feel so much better now.

Feel free to submit your thoughtful replies. Immature, irrational comments will be ignored.
I don't really disagree with your assessment. Over the last year and a half vzw has turned into att lite, and HTC has just screwed its customers every chance it has gotten. It left the EVO view/flyer, jetstream on their current buggy ass builds of hc, they've might as well given up on updating their phones, as they wait so bloody long to do so, then they have bowed to vzws every demand. I will definitely be leaving both Verizon and HTC at the end of the year when the new nexus device hits. (assuming it does hit then) to me it seems like vzw got the iphone and immediately quit worrying about how to bring in new customers and keep their current ones happy. I'm probably going to go to tmo and stick with unlocked unbranded phones.

Just because you put a custom rom on doesn't me it voided your warranty its a possibility but not a guarantee if you know what your doing. I agree with most your points, but I got the phone for $150 off CL (because he wanted an ics device instead, LOL) so not only did I get a great deal on a mint condition phone because it didn't have ics on it but then I went home and slapped it on myself from xda. So in a way I kinda like that Verizon/Htc hasn't released ics yet. Plus its cool knowing your one of only a few thousand people that have a rezound with ics. I just wished the would give up the source code for the kernel already.
At this point the only way I'm buying another HTC phone is if it is a Nexus device. After coming from the Motorola "OG" Droid, I can't stand the indifference these companies seem to have towards us. If HTC would've been more communicative with us, telling us what is going on instead of giving us some vague release date, I might've given them some credit.
Poop!
I consider that neither immature nor irrational.

It doesn't matter if this was a Samsung, Motorola, or LG, all companys treat their customers this way. Seems to be an industry standard. All big red does is interfere with this further with all the bloat they require. All I'm saying is HTC is not unique in how they handle themselves. I started with a Samsung Omnia (windows based), then got a Fascinate, Charge, and now Rezound. The Rezound is hands down the best phone I've had. Both the Fascinate and Charge suffered radio problems and if you read the Nexus forums they complain about the same thing. This also steered me away from the SGIII. Still a Samsung product.
Just my 2 cents......

While I agree that the rezzy is by far the best, I still wish I hadn't further supported HTC due to the way they are handling the tablet issue, and now the updates on the Rezound. And honestly I don't hold my breath for us getting jb. Honestly I think it will be like the tbolt is right now with Ics. Just a functional rom without a cellular modem. Which is sad given how incredibly much I like the phone itself. But the only way to get (insert mobile headset maker here) attention is to stop buying their products they won't support once they leave the shelf. And Verizon lost me when they axed unlimited data grandfathering. But then won't give me a discount for not buying a subsidized device. (ala tmo) so, I just can't continue to support companies that continually screw us the customer over.

Why do people get so "angry" or "furious" because there's no software update and says the manufacturer is horrible? Last time I checked the rezound cane out of the box with everything working. It's funny how people want everything....patience is key.
The update is a luxury not a necessity. Should I get mad at Microsoft because Windows 8 isn't out officially. The product they already released does everything I need for the time being.
Also, why would you want a company to rush a product? Try rushing your barber to finish your haircut quickly and see what happens. It seems very childish to get mad at a manufacturer for a SIMPLE update that is coming SOON.
The people of today...always wanting everything NOW.

I think some of it is symptomatic of the market. Handset makers are pushing out new devices every 4 to 6 months, and it stops being cost effective to update them all. Which sucks for us, but it makes good business sense.
If they would only push out source, RIL included, it just wouldn't matter.

All that you're saying sounds good and all but that argument is tired. If htc says we're giving ics, we expect it. And with barbers you see progress and know it's happening. You don't see him pausing your haircut after telling you 2pm to go work on someone elses and then coming back to your at damn near 1:58. Or him giving you a fresh haircut then ignoring you after you ask him to touch up your hairline after you paid him.

It's the whole thing of lying to the consumers that pisses people off, not necessarily the lack of updates IMO. If HTC had never mentioned that we were getting ICS there wouldn't be so much *****ing and moaning because people wouldn't expect it. When I got the Rezound back in November, I was told that it would have it by January. Here we are almost 8 months later with still no update. HTC has had it ready for months but Verizon refuses to push it out until they're ready. It's not the same thing as your Windows 8 analogy because the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8 is paid for. It'd be more like you buy a computer with Windows 7 and a few months down the road your PC manufacturer says "We're not going to release any new drivers for your hardware, sorry." then MS says "We're not going to release any updates to Windows 7 for you anymore, sorry. Please buy Windows 8 to get the latest bug fixes."
I gotta say HTC and Verizon really ****ed this up. I've had good experiences with HTC before, but they are just so Hit-or-miss that it isnt even funny. Verizon... POS. Come november when my contract is over, I'm going to get whatever is the next nexus device (if its HTC then awesome) on AT&T
I don't really care for the official ICS because I am already enjoying ICS with sense 4 with Newts One XxX. However, it pisses me off to see that the rezound is still without official ICS. I don't think anything can justify this, other than than Verizon trying to promote other phones and not caring about a phone because it was not branded "Droid". The Droid razor already has ICS and I dont see why the Rezound still waiting. And what's more frustrating is the silence of the two companies... They simply don't care about what the customers think...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I would have to say the rezound has been the worst experience I have ever had with a HTC phone. It seems that since the HTC One series drop nothing else matters to HTC. I hate to say it but this may very well be my last HTC handset. I need a phone that I can compile the source on my own I guess.
Edit:
I see a lot of blame on Verizon but I don't believe (and I maybe wrong) any other HTC handsets have ICS either like the EVO3D (were I came from).
Why even push an update now that isn't even an update? It needs to have sense 4, IMO that would make it worth the wait, and get customers more excited and loyal towards HTC products. But nope. Gonna be sense 3.6 lol. Meh w/e they have been shooting themselves in the foot lately. All of them have in a way. Samsung used to be terrible with updates but not so much anymore... Their phones are just iffy, radios and such...

I don't think they are working on anything. Con247 believes that the last leak was the final version. If he is correct then they (probably Verizon) have been just sitting on it. That to me would be total BS.

Oh I'm almost 100% sure Verizon is the MAIN problem. HTC has probably had it done for quite some time now but I'm sure Verizon keeps rejecting and making them lock stuff down more, while promoting other phones in the meantime. This last leak is almost perfect, and how long have we had it now?
Well, as the title says, HTC is preparing a new tablet and has leaked some info and benchmarks of the new device. When they announced the Flyer/EVO View and Jetstream were not going to receive official ICS update, one of the reasons HTC gave was that they were not going to develop new tablets and the cost of developing a new ICS Sense for Tablets was not worth it for just two devices...
So now... what?
I'd like to ask everybody here who has a Facebook account to go to the official HTC facebook page and demand the update to ICS for the Flyer/ EVO View and Jetstream tablets. It's not useless, HTC has rectified before when the customers filled their facebook pages demanding updates (Gingerbread update for Desire is a good example).
Some facts you can use to convince HTC to release the update (you can copy/paste in the HTC facebook pages):
- Flyer was released in May 2011, Desire HD in October 2010. Flyer is more powerful... but the DHD is getting the update. Not anymore!!! has HTC decision makers gone mad???
- Flyer has a more powerful CPU than One V, and twice the RAM... One V already has ICS, of course.
- Flyer has some unofficial ICS ROMs already, even a Sense 4 port, and those are the fastest ROMs ever in this device, but many things don't work because they are not official ROMs. The hardware is more than ready for ICS, it's begging for the update!!!
- HTC is going to release a new tablet, everyone who owns an HTC tablet will never buy another HTC after this "NO ICS" decision and we´ll be recommending everyone we know against doing so. And probably advise against their phones too.
- The hardware specs and quality of manufacturing of HTC tablets are outstanding. HTC tablets have been a commercial failure in the past because of several reasons, but the hardware is not one of them. Poor advertising, extremely high price,... but most of all, the lack of a proper OS is the major flaw of these devices.
- The Honeycomb update brought the loss of functionalities like phone calls or the hardware buttons... and a loss of 10% screen working area in landscape mode because of the Honeycomb bar (and we are talking of a 7" screen). We BOUGHT a device with those functionalities and there is no official downgrade.
- Most Flyer users were really disappointed with the Honeycomb update and were sincerely hoping an ICS update would fix those things, many kept Gingerbread instead of installing the update. The most read threads in the Flyer's forums on the Internet are the ones explaining how to downgrade to Gingerbread (unofficial method, of course). This is a worldwide situation.
- Honeycomb is dead. It was Google's temporary solution for tablets until ICS was ready and it shows... every major manufacturer is updating their tablets to ICS and getting rid of Honeycomb for good. No one wants Honeycomb, it was a failure, and that is known even at Google central offices (they won't admit it, of course). Our one year old devices should not be running an obsolete OS. With Gingerbread first and later with Honeycomb we still don't have a proper OS to enjoy the full potential of our devices, ICS is the solution and HTC is not updating.
- The ICS update is not just a fancy thing we are asking for, it's a necessity for our devices to function as they should.
- If HTC is developing a new ICS Sense for Tablets, it should not cost much to bring it to our devices. The cost of developing is out of the equation. HTC is letting down its actual tablet consumer base at the same time it is developing something that would make us all happy if it was released for our tablets. If we get an OS update (ICS or JB) for our devices then our next tablet would be an HTC almost for sure and we would be happy customers. Instead, we will not only run away from future HTC tablets but also the phones.
- The new HTC Quattro, Vertex or whatever name HTC gives to their new 10" tablet will be a commercial failure for sure if the owners of the only HTC tablets to date are left in the present situation. We are not happy, and the reason is the lack of a proper OS, it's a software problem. We will advise everyone against buying HTC tablets and we won't buy any more products from them. We could be telling everyone how wonderful HTC tablets really are if we had the proper OS, that's the best advertising any company wants, but we'll do right the opposite.
- Many of the HTC tablet customers chose their devices because they had HTC written all over them, knowing that meant QUALITY in capital letters. Early adopters of new devices are the ones that determine the success or failure of a company in a market niche. They're usually technology enthusiasts and they spread the word if a product is great or not. Apple knows very well what i'm talking about.
Tablets still are a fairly new product for the masses (specially Android ones), the early adopters of the HTC tablets are not satisfied, and a simple update can change the situation. Very little cost for HTC and huge benefits if they release the update.
- If HTC really wants to sell tablets and be one of the big brands they have to treat their customers properly, and give us the ICS update we need to enjoy the full potential of our devices (and also have back again the functionalities WE PAID FOR). Otherwise they will continue to see their benefits numbers drop (half this year).
I've already started to publish all this at the HTC main facebook page and at HTC Spain facebook page (where I live), and of course there is a Spanish version of this rant that is "more colorful" because that's my native language (En el anuncio de la filtración de las prestaciones del nuevo tablet les dije que si no nos dan la actualización se lo podian meter por donde amargan los pepinos, por ejemplo )
Of course all this might end up in nothing, but we have nothing to loose and much to gain just by spending a few minutes on facebook telling HTC that we are not happy, and that they might be in for a rough ride trying to sell their new tablet having their current tablet user base so pissed up.

Honestly man its a lost cause. Htc won't bend on it, they've made up their minds and the writing is on the wall. Good news is we have a good aokp build started by chaos so we will have a full working ics rom but not from htc
Also if they use the same pen technology, it might be our ticket to working pen on ics
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
our best hopes would be that something from this new tablet could be ported over
I wouldn't bet on the porting bit, the processor architectures are just too different. I guess maybe Chaos could get some kind of kernel ported, but I would personally be running AOKP even if we had a OEM solution. Hmm...you know I wonder if the AOKP MHL issue is because the standard Linux kernel doesn't support the second framebuffer...?
Just did my bit.
I doubt the hardware will be anywhere similar to the flyer but if it has pen, then we could get an ics pen driver

Our tablets are built and optimized for a Honeycomb experience. To preserve that match between hardware and software, we do not plan to update our tablets at this time. Upgrades are not the same thing as ongoing support. Devices not being upgraded to Android 4.0 will still get software improvements, security fixes, and technical support as needed.

Lmao that was straight out of their press released. "optimized for honeycomb"? Seriously? Optimized for what lag? If the flyer was optimized for anything, it was gingerbread not honeycomb.
I know it's all a lost cause anyway but still entertaining to hear their responses. Also ongoing support means releasing an update to address the lag and broken gps, and I see no indication they a going to do that.

I would like to post on their Facebook profiles, but I probably won't. I used to post on HTC Global, HTC UK, HTC Canada and HTC US. But I always got responses from dubious people who were on HTC's side, and to tell you the truth, I don't need more bad blood from dealing with (the lack of) official ICS of the Flyer.
It's a slap in the face if HTC is really developing another tablet. They've probably made some market research and must've found out that people really want another HTC tablet because their first go was such a commercial success. Plus, they must've found out that HTC tablet owners are so happy with their purchases, they're now like iPad owners: whenever a new generation comes, they jump right away.
Eitherway, I wish all the best to HTC. They said no ICS is coming for the Flyer. I can live with that as long as they keep their promise to update Honeycomb. Though, I doubt they'll have the time. JB is already here, and they're still busy updating to ICS.
I bought this tab 50 Days ago... Now I am already ranting about it. Should i exchange it for a Nexus 7?

Yeah there are htc fanboys that troll the site, and you ask about a Flyer ics update and the trolls attack you. Oh well. This isn't going to work, htc has made up their minds. We found this out in May. Let's just focus on ioidroid and Lisbon, scew htc! Ics probably wouldn't have been as nice as we thought anyway, most likely htc would of found a way to make it even slower than honeycomb!
I used to complain too but hell the nexus is only 200, so if I get tired I'll just grab that, we are fortunate to have the developers we have so that should be the focus, not beating a dead horse with nagging at htc

HTC isn't losing much at all from not upgrading their phones. The majority of Android users will not understand or care about version numbers. Android is no longer something for just "nerds" like us. It has the largest market share of any mobile OS. HTC is losing money because they don't have lower end phones, and also because the name isn't as well known as Samsung or Apple in the US.
1) HTC cannot guarantee an update window without being sure of it. With this update being new, they will still have to go through Sprint and all of that before it gets to us. HTC probably has no way of knowing how long it will take, so they aren't giving us any sort of ETA.
2) This phone will obviously receive the update. That shouldn't even be questioned. It is essentially the same phone as the One X, but locked down to a single carrier. This most likely makes us the last priority because we are the smallest group. The One X is available in many more areas than the Evo is. HTC probably wants to get through the biggest group first and then focus on us.
3) You're being unnecessarily angry. The update was just released TODAY, meaning that it probably won't even be on every One X for a few days at least. Just because some HTC drone paid to avoid giving you answers told you on Facebook that they don't have any information to share with you doesn't mean we will be waiting a month for this update to come. Could we have to wait that long? Yes. But there is no proof that we will.
4) The current update we are on with this phone is good. The phone itself works fine. Why do we need this update instantly? Would you prefer HTC rush it out and have to deal with bugs? Why would you want to do that? If it isn't ready for release yet, then you just have to deal with that. Pestering them on Facebook isn't going to get them to go any faster. Spamming them with e-mails probably isn't going to either. There is no legally binding document that says they have to release this update. They will though.
Honestly, it is common sense that we will see this update in the future. When will we see it? We don't know. But to go on an expletive filled tirade just because HTC doesn't have a bone to throw at you on the first day that the update is available on carriers that are much less restrictive than Sprint is just immature and unnecessary.
Newsflash: it's easier to update a phone when you don't have to go through carriers. Also, upgrading phones outside of the US is much easier because a lot of less restrictive carriers. It'll happen, but HTC had to focus on one or the other first, and common sense says we weren't chosen because we're the smaller group.
Exactly..and they have pretty much the same software besides the bloat apps..but believe me they are not very happy either..devs are leaving and the bootloaders are locked up tighter than a nuns ass...I don't understand HTCs intentions but it could all be fixed with one simple upload of source

2) Think about 4.1. What if HTC and/or Sprint thinks 4.0.4 is a waste of time and decides, hey, why don't we just develop 4.1 for the LTEvo instead? I mean, that could be money better spent, right? So, are we with AT&T and have the One X, or are we Sprint and have the LTEvo?
If your answer is Sprint and the LTEvo, you have survived round two and allowed to continue!
3) So where does it state that we will absolutely get everything that the One X gets? Is there anything concrete that links our LTEvo development to the One X?
If your answer is nowhere and nothing, you have won the game!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

Think about what I said and your response to it for just a second. Is that second over? Ok, let's try that again.

I like you.
Pro HTC? Can't you see, post purchase service is **** all across the board. The desire HD excuse is a perfect example. Your idea of carrier lock down is somewhat true BUT can be solved. I don't know why they let carriers muscle them. Apple says **** you, sale our **** or GTFO & they bend. HTC needs to do the same & Sammy does too. These cellular politics piss me off. I wonder what EXCUSE we'll get for not having android 5. I would much rather them come out & say "yo, we not upgrading your old ass phone. Buy a new one or GTFO"

Nice to see you back man. Generally like your posts and threads.
It does seem like the LTE is getting left out right now but I'm not gonna freak unless a pattern develops
Sent using my LTEVO
