[Q] How to update Galaxy SII? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Galaxy SII and I want to update it to ICS. I Live in New Zealand on the vodafone network.
I have tried using Kies except it doesn't support updating and I don't know why!
Please help!

doed ur coutry has ics upgrade via kies....
check *#1234# and post...

Well, you can always go down the other road and skip Kies, flashing an ICS rom from the forums, of which are a lot good available, I'm very happy with one as well.
That is, if you're happy to leave the Samsung stock rom path.
You'll find all the info in the development section for the SGSII.

kies is sh*t only use it to install usb drivers then remove from desktop use odin 1.85 to flash or mobile odin app on play store

you can update to ics simply via odin. its the easiest method. just goto intratech's thread of official ics roms and choose the one you want + the same thread also has a good tutorial on how to use odin.

I'm just venturing a guess but I'm pretty sure kies doesn't recognize firmware that hasn't been officially released in your region. If you flashed it with Odin I'm assuming this is the case. If you want your firmware to be updateable via kies you need to flash back to whatever firmware is "official" in your region.

You need to change your csc. So that kies will recognized it...

Even if it is not official in your region. Its okay as long the csc is for that rom. Like me. Im from philippines and my rom is ki8 2.3.5. From nordic region. Kies is recognized it trust me...

Use an app called SpoofFW from market, then follow the on screen steps, and choose your country and operator from preset (press menu button,u might need to update presets if you can't find it...), when finished, run kies again...

[Q] No firmware update possible - I9100 - GINGERBREAD.XWKF3

Hi there! I hope someone can enlighten me. I've never been able to update my SII since I got it, now it's almost a year ago in Belgium (so I'm stuck with GB 2.3.3). KIES says I've got the latest firmware version, and I get the same thing via FOTA.
Now it seems as if ICS provides some battery saving, among some other features, so I'd like to update the firmware (at least for once!)
I would like to avoid rooting, flashing and so on... although it seems as that's the most practical way to follow
So, thanks a lot in advance to anyone who could help me

OK, I've tried that and odin is not recognizing my phone... The firmware is there, I'm in download mode. I've switched usb ports... This is a bloody nightmare!
Last week I told a friend of ñine to try to update hers and she did it straight away through FOTA... and she had bought it only 6 months after me! What a bunch of wankers these Koreans!
friend of mine had the same problem with his s2, i found out his problem was caused by his phone being locked to a provider and because of this he had different kernel from me. he got update several months after me...
this because of provider's own extra apps on the phone...!
Just flash via Odin

Hi there,
- Have you tried to get to the Download mode ?
- Have you a JIG ?
- If so, just use ODIN to flash a proper stock ROM.
Yes, pick the laest official ROM from here for ODIN flash : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

Why did you use a method from outside of XDA? When you posted here, I responded with google searches that would have only returned results from XDA. The first result for the root search (for me, anyway) should have been the root method for ICS that didn't involve flashing anything with Odin.
