Just got off chat with Sprint rep admitting there is an outage. My service has gone from 5 bars to "No Service" and back.
I thought it was related to the VM FW I'd installed earlier this week (hoping to fix that ICS VM flash thing) but it appears it's something big.
Anyone else affected?

Nope, no issues here in Dallas area.
I'm replying from 4G right now and just got off a call. No issues here at all.

In Southern South Carolina, I find myself roaming more than I should be.
MAYBE THEY'RE PUSHING OUT AN UPDATE FOR OUR PHONE THAT WILL COMPARE OUR PHONES WITH AT&T!?!?!? lol! oh wait. I don't think sprint gives a **** about us enough to do that. hahaha. It's a simple upgrade. easier than doing 4G. JUST DO IT! YAYAYAY!
Big issues in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. They told us it wouldn't be fixed for a while and they allowed us to exit our contract without an etf.
Service is still "up" in Green Bay area
If that happened around here, I'd be dancing in the streets...not that I'd even be able to tell if there was an outage. I think I've used maybe about 150KB off of WiFi in the past month.
I just started getting a 2128 error when sending text.

I am considering leaving but now is not a good time to switch. I would probably go to ATT and the phone i want probably wont be out for about a month. I would kick myself if i had to get a phone that's already been out for 6 months just to have the galaxy s III eat it's lunch a month later. The other option is ATT, which would be more reasonable with the family plan that we need and and they have a solid phone in the One X. The only problem with that though is they do not get good service within my house which is ridiculous (and i'd rather have the evo lte).

Was happening last week here in vacaville Ca. And my over all indoor signal strength is **** now everywhere.
Major issues when I was working in Detroit today. Bars on the phone went from full to nothing to 1 to full to 1, all within a matter of seconds. Data was slow (as usual with sprint) however most of the day my phone couldn't even connect to 3g or 1x. When it did, it was constantly switching from 3g to 1x. Phone calls would go through maybe 1 out of 10 times. I sent texts to about 10 different people today, I just got to the airport and called all of them, NONE of them got a single text from me today, even though my phone reports them as being sent.

So , my problem started yesterday and whenever I connect to 4g I'm not actually able to connect to anything online. Everything works fine over 3g and WiFi but everytime I'm ok 4g , I get nothing . I live in Philadelphia , and in a 4g service area. I've tried a master reset and still nothing. Does anyone have a way to fix it . I tried a search but wasn't able to fond any info for my problem . Thanks in advance for all your help.

Having the same problem in the same area. I called Sprint just now, the rep said it wasn't the towers. I have a OG EVO, I'm about to power up and test out. If it works fine, I'm returning the 3D until they issue a fix. This one was a replacement for one that was running hot, but I noticed weak 4G speeds on that one also.
I actually went through your same ordeal on TWO 3vo's.....third one was a charm.. nothing will fix it, so you'll have to take it back to Sprint for a new one.

The rep mentioned there was a (bad batch) that was having problems. I was honestly almost going to cancel service and go back to sprint. Once you get a 3vo with no issues you're going to LOVE the phone. And just wait ti'll we have an unlocked bootloader....lol

Thanks for the update. I'm from the philly area as well. I'm going to keep mine on 4g all day to see if i also get the intermittent connection. Sometimes it will work then sometimes it won't
I was having the same issues yesterday. I spent like 2 hours talking with Sprint doing ##3282# data profile restores until the 5th rep says it’s a nationwide issue. The connection showed full reception on my 3D and my wife's OG EVO, but the connection to the internet or any other data services was intermittent. Seems to be fine today.
this was working fine today but stopped working about an hour ago. anyone else have this issue???

sadly this is not only a evo 3d problem...i have an epic 4g and have been experiencing the same problems, the 4g connects yet no webpages will load and apps wont connect to the internet. 4g sometimes starts working again but then it stops again. If anyone can find out what the hell is going on it'll be a great help.
I've had issues where certain apps don't get internet access while on 4G but the web browser always seems to work. I know Scrabble from EA didn't like the 4G, and Google Music didn't either.

everyone is honestly too quick to jump the gun and return their phones. It's quite silly and alarmist.
Just reset it or wait it out; that usually solves most problems.
This is my second evo 3d, this one works fine till today, i work at Bethesda ,MD, the 3g works fine, my 4g no way this evening, they need to solve this problem asap, or else they are going to loose customer, evo 4g has good reputation, E3D please don't destroy that reputation.
They responded to me on their Facebook wall, Wimax cell sites are down (intermittent data issue on 4G). They're working to bring them up.

Yesterday (Monday), I had connection problems from Noon to 4 (in Center City), but could connect to SpeedTest around 5:50 pm in Mt Airy.
If it is just the wimax cell sites being down, as opposed to a bad 4G attenca in my phone, does anyone know of a way to check besides calling Sprint? Their reps vary wildly in competence (or at the least, some suck at reading their memos/emails), and I don't want to have to call 80 of them to get a straight answer :/

LOL if you noticed, I'm in your area, its not the phone.
Yeah, I noticed Someone had mentioned in this thread that he'd had two 3vos with busted antennas, so I'm a little worried (I've had an amazing streak of non-defective electronics purchases, and I'd hate for this phone to end my streak LOL).
As of 10:40 Am EST in downtown Philly, with 1 bar of 4G and 4 bars of signal strength, I have Wimax data transfer (3.20 Down and 0.07 up, 115ms ping). That's after updating my PRL then my profile while 4G was on. I'm guess they're currently working on getting the WImax cells up.
Today I lost all data. Sprint says it is because they are updating their towers. Should I have this problem all over Dallas? My wifes phone works fine. Spent an hour with tech no luck. I went to the Sprint store and they just said people have been coming in all day.
My two friends with the same phone have no issues and one other with a rooted phone has issues. I hope I didn't lose data because I rooted my phone.

You can be certain that it isn't the rooting itself that would cause your data issue. Try going into your settings>Mobile Network: and where it says "Network Mode" select it and choose "CDMA Only" and see if you can connect then. With network vision being so close I would image alot of strange things are going on in those areas (im in the atlanta market but havent experience and problems). And one guess I have is since data is fine on a non LTE-device, it's almost CERTAINLY a tower work kind of error. Our phones (lte phones) have different PRL's than non LTE phones so our phones choose what towers to connect to , and how to connect to them, differently. I'm sure this will be remedied extremely soon. probably fine by the time you wake up in the morning.
Im in Grapevine/colleyville and I frequently loose data for a sec, but not long periods of time. It's cause of the lte roll out. Should be all good on july 15th

Live in Dallas work in grapevine, same issues. Hoping 15th roll out solves everything, luckily I'm on WiFi at home and work so its not overly unbearable. Grapevine however I have trouble with text sometimes.

Im actually having the same issue here in Houston. If network mode is set to LTE/CDMA, i get no data. Still shows 3G, but the arrows that show receive/transmit show the transmit arrow solid. Where if I change my network mode to CDMA only, data works fine.
So HOPEFULLY it is as suggested, tower work due to Network Vision. Fingers crossed!

I wish my data was turning off and on...I have none at all. So werid. It was supposed to be fixed by today according to tech support at sprint. After another hour on the phone ...no dice.

When I change my data to CDMA only I dont even get the 3g icon and sill no data.

Same issue in Austin. The CS rep I'm talking to speculates it might be tied to the storms in the NE/midwest.
I'm also getting errors updating my PRL and profile.
On hold with tech support right now. Once I'm done, I'll try setting my network mode to CDMA only and see if that helps.
Well today i had no signal and everyone i know had no signal we all have sprint. Sprint said as we speak they were working on the vision project for the towers for lte and from what i read online today was they day they were working in my area. The plan for lte was to start with the small towns around Chicago and then chicago last so people in Chicago could pick up signals from near by areas until the towers in Chicago get updated. Theres more cell towers in chicago alone then the rest of illinois combined so this make perfect since. I'm from Rockford Illinois and i have horrible 3g speeds. Hoping they flip this lte switch soon.

Things are working for me again. Sprint tech guy had me dial ##72786# and input the password 033322. From their, he had me hit menu and reset.
The phone rebooted and reactivated. Then I updated my profile and prl. Those failed the first few times, but they worked when I set the network mode to cdma only. Switched back to cdma/lte and everything's back to normal.
The tech did confirm that we were feeling echoes of the network disruption (due to a storm) in the northeast.
I live in Richardson and work in Plano. No 3G issues anywhere for me. Including going into downtown Dallas yesterday and today.

Yeah the phone is almost unusable. I don't know if its the phone or the work on the towers. I've tried the cdma only option and its still a no go .

Mine did that the first night I had it for a few ours. Had no signal at all. Went to bed and in am it was back to normal. Is your roaming on? Turn it on once and see if you get a signal and data. I was able to when I had no signal with sprint only on

Is anyone in the cities/communities that LTE went live in, connecting to the network and maintaining the connection? I am in San Antonio, and have only had LTE connect once and that was before the network went live. I checked the coverage map and it says it should connect but I am having no luck. I have read in other threads that people connect for a few seconds then go back to 3G service. I just wanted to see what everone else's mileage is. Thanks

the sprint maps arent accurate as of right now. the towers havent all been upgraded. that map is more a representation of coverage once there done. i was holding a stable 4g connection down in the quarry saturday afternoon.
I saw the 4g icon once about a month ago. And it was so sporadic I couldn't do anything with it.
Now that it's officially live in KC. Still haven't seen anything. Stuck on 3g and I'm about a mile and a half from the Sprint campus.
I was out of town last week and was hoping to come back to LTE. Sprint said the 15th, so I guess shouldn't expect much until the end of the month.
I am in DFW and where I live I get nothing.. not even a blip of 4G turning on. Where I work it turns on but it usually flips right back to 3G. I was able to hold it for about 15 mins at one point this morning but thats been it.
Unfortunately for me 3G coverage on my towers is god awful to the point im tempted to activate my OGEvo and use wimax till this is sorted.
I live 3 blocks from the sprint compound in KC and haven't seen a hair of LTE. Odd.
San Antonio, no service yet. Coverage map might be a prediction of complete service and not an actual "current service“ map

Went outside during lunch and did pick up 4g.
Ran a speedtest, 1.5 down, about the same up. Not real impressive. Although still better then the non-existent 3g as of late.
As soon as I walk back in the building it goes back to 3g.
I am in San Antonio as well, and no, it goes crazy 4G-3G-4G-3G etc etc but it does not maintain 4G... it switches back to 3G and stays there... if I force it to stay on 4G (##DATA#) it get good solid 4G speeds at one point 10down 8up... but it wont make or receive phone calls, if I reboot I get a "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly"
I seriously hope things improve in terms of the network. It would be a shame if all this NV stuff Sprint talked about was just hype.... I know LTE just went live but it should atleast be able to grab a decent connection. Let's just hope it can penetrate better and be more reliable than WiMAX....

I was able to get LTE in the 1604/I10 area Friday night but now its nowhere to be found. I spoke with a customer rep and they did say that it will be a work in progress as they are making some sort of adjustments to the towers and that when that happens they may be taken down to make the switch and the overload of traffic on other towers is causing it to not connect properly to the LTE servers. I would have thought that this transition would have been made before going live but apparently not. Hopefully over the next few days the network gain strength.

Another person in SA with no 4G here. I carpooled this morning and saw nothing the whole way to work. (Bandera & 1604 across 151 and then to Culebra & 410 if we're mapping this). Went out for lunch and didn't get any signal either. Oh well, I guess we'll see how things look in a week or so.
I talked to a Sprint rep and they said they are still working to get the coverage shown on the map for LTE. I gave them a couple zip codes and they came back and said they should go live soon
Try getting a hold of a Sprint rep on chat/phone and give them your zip if you are supposed to be getting LTE according to the map.
Personally I am getting blazing speeds in the south but 0 LTE in the north. I am being patient :angel:
I'm not in San Antonio at the moment. Live in Los Angeles and well...I'll let my screenshot speak for it's self.

The 10$ is for any smartphone regardless of 4g or not. They changed that charge a long time ago. Its premium data now. Every company does this..no big deal.

Originally it was a WiMAX charge but then they figured out that they couldn't legally charge for their WiMAX unless it was actually up and running in their entire proposed network. They then said it was for all smartphones to get around it. Yes its not a big deal because sprint is still cheaper than the other carriers but they still don't have a completely functioning WiMAX/lte network. We all know its a 4g charge no matter what they call it

Dacula, GA here. Got a 4g signal about a month ago, but only for a short while. Now the coverage map says that I am covered, but I haven't gotten any signal. So like everyone is saying, the map is pretty inaccurate right now. Hopefully i'll get some connection by the end of this month.
This is the best I could do today in the Vinings GA (burbs of of ATL) area. 4G has been flashing since Mon for me. It lasts for less than 5 mins, but long enough for me to do a few speed tests. 4G also flashes at my home, but its very brief. What's crazy is today I was told about the Open Signal app, so I downloaded it. It's really helpful... What I didn't know was the tower I see near my job is a Sprint Tower. I also have another tower about a mile away. I saw today I caught 4G from both. Makes me wonder what's really up? The tower is right outside my office, so is the LTE signal that weak, or are there some kind of signal/antenna issues? Oh by the way, the Sprint Tower is also really close to where I live. It's about 0.2-0.3 miles away...

Hi everyone, i called sprint today to call about some issues i was having receiving calls and texts while on the sprint network (not roaming) so i called and found i that the towers in my town are in the process of receiving the network vision upgrades so figured i would share the problems i was having so you might know if you are getting them to. that is if you guys get the same problems...
Issues:
1. not receiving calls
2. not receiving texts unless placing a call and only getting the texts while the call is in progress
3. The above being solved by forcing your phone to roam
4. internet might go 1x every once and a while in places where you previously had 3g
p.s. the lady says all this will be fixed once the upgrade is complete
so hope this helps a few people who are getting the upgrade and not knowing it haha
Had this issue and got an Airave. Problem solved, at least at home. It was brutal before that though.

yeah chicago market.....been a brutal one for the NV upgrades from what has been said thus far....

I can vouch for this, it's been terrible for me the past few months. Every other call drops, randomly dropped 3g, data speeds slow enough that I can even stream low quality music. Some parts of the area are great, some parts all you can do is throw the phone into airplane mode so your battery doesn't drain.
That totally explains my evo 3d. For a while when I had it I always had to place a call to get my texts...
as sgt.slaughter said on s4gru they had an article. the jist of it is is that motorola did all the towers in chicago the first time and now samsung is doing them with all different stuff and the messed up combo between sam and moto is messing with everyones phones. they said that it will be fixed eventually...
Yeah same problem here in Hammond, In...right across the border from Chicago's Hegewich neighborhood. Dropped calls, etc...lately though I get full bars and crystal clear calls at work when I used to get 1 bar. 4g eracticly but 3g is horrendous. Hopefully up and running soon

Funny, here we've been experiencing delayed texts/crappy data rates/horrible reception. However, the website doesn't indicate any towers are here are being upgraded. For like 3-4 weeks I could barely even stream something on TuneFM or even a short, low quality YouTube video.
I guess we'll see.

what site? and btw when i called sprint i had already been having issues since about july 24th, still have them, then she said the the towers would be done SEPTEMBER 7TH... i didn't realize it took so long to update the THREE towers in my entire town haha

Also can vouch. Been like this around the loop/gold Coast on my LTE and 3D for a long time.. At Lollapalooza in Grant Park this past weekend I was roaming 85% of the time. Glad to see this post bc I was starting to get really angry that my dl speeds were slower than 56k and my gf on Verizon was getting as high as 14 Mbps down. She always gives me crap for it.

Yeah we got it bad in Frisco, they brought down one tower for upgrades, shortly after evdo went down on the next closest tower... the third closest tower is hardcore overloaded. Speedtest reports .02-.04 mb/s

I'm in NW Indiana and the past week has been horrible....3g has been slower than normal and almost non existent. Anyone else in the area or is it just my phone?

I've had unusable phone service for 7 months. I'm now leaving Sprint this week. They have told me the towers are being upgraded for seven months. Now they say they're finished, and the service is no better. It's a joke how horrific it is. We fought them and are getting almost $500 in credits now for the terrible half-year we've had. That'll just about cover my early termination fee, haha. Good luck to you.

im in a southwestern suburb of chicago and its been hell for 3 months now. dropped calls, missed texts, and even better is people don't get the pictures i send them. they just disappear... idk ive gotten the past 2 months free so i guess i can deal even tho they told me the 3 towers in my town getting upgraded would be done last month on the 7th... it amazes me how towns that were scheduled for completion a whole month after the ones in my town have been done for weeks and im still getting the shaft...
All of Chicago is nearly unusable. It won't get any better until early 2013 is my guess. I can't hold a call at all, and data is so slow I can't even stream Pandora. You're not alone. Sure, a few towers here and there have LTE but by and large the whole market is awful.

it was bad by me SW burbs... for about 2 months... then they finished the NV upgrades in my area and I've noticed much faster 3G speeds... my wife's family in the west burbs are going through what we went through now... sounds like you are too... stick it out if you can... call sprint to try and get a credit... and soon enough hopefully we will be able to enjoy LTE... the few times I happened to be near a tower that was on the speeds were amazing and it gives me hope for sprint
Ok, I knew something strange was going on. I'm from NY, but I'm in the Chicago area quite often. I was driving across I-90 yesterday and when I got to Gary, IN, my phone kept bouncing back and forth from 3G to 1X. I knew something was wrong because I've driven through there many times in the past and would always get 4G LTE service. It was pretty much the same horrible service as I passed through Chicago... my phone even went into Roaming mode twice. I'm in La Grange, IL now and the service is pretty poor here too. I did receive full strength 4G LTE service while I was in Yorksville, IL last night and this morning, but my phone wouldn't hold the signal. I would be completely stationary and then the signal would disappear and go back to 3G. It was like Sprint was turning it on and off or something.
Really bad where I'm at. NW Chicago. But its especially bad at home. I can't receive calls at all when I'm home. Sometimes receive txts late
The reception of this thread is not good in general... gonna put it in Q and A where it should have been and it may get better reception...
dude i work at sprints largest 3rd party retailer. for the past 7 months, maybe since march, They tell us to tell you guys that there is maintenance on the towers. we have 10-20 new people come in a day asking why their phone sucks. As we speak, my phone has no data connection
I live in arlington heights, but my sister is in aurora. she complains as well... This is garbage
I can't even call people on sprint. Just says call can't be completed. But can call other cell phone users. Brought phone in and was told b.s. so close to buying out and going to a usable network.

I did that recently and am so happy I did. Worth the money. Verizon has the new shared data plans, so it only costs me about $8 more per month. Completely worth it. Reliable phone signal everywhere I go, and blazing fast Internet everywhere too. I flip off Sprint every time I drive past one of their stores. They are liars and morons with terrible service right now in Chicago (has been since March).

I'm in Joliet and have called sprint more times in the last 7 months than I have in the previous ten years. For 6 and a half months it was "we are working on the towers, bear with us and you will be amazed at the new service and glad you stuck it out"
Well Joliet is officially "up and running' I have three towers within a two mile radius of my house, the closest being .07 tenths of a mile a way. Guess who still dont have reliable 4G?! Last night it was on but I had 256kbps down and 2.5m up. Today I called them while I was literally sitting underneath the tower. I had no 4G on my LTE phone and my wifes evo was in 3G gettting a blazing fast 561ms ping, 19kbps down and 29kbps up!
CRAP!
Nothing has changed. the service still sucks, srint still gives me a different answer ecverytime I call. Meanwhile I can't stream Pandora, Tune in Radio or watch a you tube video even at the lowest of settings. If Verizon had an unlimited data plan...I would be gone....what to do?!??!
